A favourite spot for good fish and chips served by a hustling friendly and efficient staff during trying times Without a garrulous animal in sight

This place is doing a great job of keeping people safe during the pandemic. The blocking off of tables and opening the patio is a great start, but then you see people wiping things down and cleaning all the time, it makes you feel comfortable at a time like this. The picture I posted is of the all you can eat which was ok. The chips were great. The fish was a bit greasy. There was more batter than there was fish. My wife however ordered just a 1 piece meal and her fish was juicy and flaky and cooked perfectly. That's why I gave this 4 stars.

We didn't feel like driving out to Richmond for Pajo's so C-Lovers Fish & Chips was on our radar. We opted for their All-You-Can-Eat Fish & Chips with bottomless drink for $14.99! Our platters came pretty quickly, and you can see your order being fried up with the open kitchen visible. Our plates initially came with 6 pieces of freshly, battered and fried cod pieces and thick cut fries. The batter was light, golden and not saturated in oil. The cod was cod - nothing fishy here ;) The fries were hot and crispy. We got a second round of fish and ordered another 6 pieces. The service was really efficient and friendly. Overall, we were full of fish and our craving for fried foods was very much satisfied. Too bad the weather wasn't nicer, the patio area looks pretty nice for a hot day! Plenty of seating inside and free parking. Very family friendly as we saw multiple groups come in for dinner.

And while there are no shortage of seafood restaurants serving fresh crab on the Steveston waterfront, we wanted to give The Crab King a fair shake. I'm so glad that we did! My wife ordered a King Crab for herself which, after tearing it literally limb-from-limb, eventually declared it to be tied for her favorite boiled crab dish anywhere! High praise coming from such a consummate crustacean connoisseur! For myself and our son, an order of fish and chips, and the grilled chicken sandwich rounded out our order, both of which were crispy, tasty and delicious. Regarding the fish and chips, they appeared to be tempura-battered, and I'm still not 100% sure what type of fish it was. It may have been cod, but it seemed more like catfish, but either way, it was tender, juicy, flaky and delicious. No complaints here! More than anything, though, the employees here went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. Our toddler son, who is normally extremely well-behaved in restaurants, was having a bit of a fuss here and there. Without prompting, the servers brought us a little radio to play music for him, as well as a couple of toys to play with, one of them being a wind-up truck that they gave to him to take home! He loved it there, and still plays with it at home! They even played peek-a-boo with him from behind the counter, soliciting laughs and giggles, for the better part of 15 minutes! That sort of customer service is nearly impossible to find, and should be praised and cherished wherever it is found! Whatever the past may have held for this restaurant, the Crab King is an entirely new animal now, serving up fresh seafood by uncommonly wonderful employees, in a fantastic floating location. They even offer to cook spot prawns and other seafood purchased from the boats docked at the nearby waterfront marketplace, for a modest fee. With all these things going for it, there's no doubt who wears the crown of Crab King in Steveston Harbor!

It was a long time coming and they did not disappoint! From the warm and inviting atmosphere, and historical heritage house setting, to attentive waitstaff, and delicious menu options, served in the highest quality and with attention to detail, we were blown away. They sat us promptly at our reservation time, pulling the table for us to sit comfortably. Free complimentary crab puffs were given along with ice water, free baguette slices, and whipped butter. We ordered our martinis, which were delicious vibrant, balanced, and themed to the city. They were delicious and the mixture was mixed perfectly. He had the White Rock and enjoyed it; I had the Green Timbers. Our charcuterie was expertly plated and gorgeous to look at, along with fresh and delicious. The cheese, cured meats, and fruits were fresh, crisp, tangy, and perfectly paired with one another for a solid appetizer. We then had our encores. The steak I had (he had the duck) was the most supple, soft, juicy, and perfectly cooked medium rare I've had in my memory. I swear. If you love steak.. you'll love it. Perfectly seasoned, supple and soft... gorgeous. Along with the pillowy, crispy potatoes and veggies? Classic! The waitstaff were friendly, efficient, attentive, and cordial, with a smile and clearly loved their job. Ours, Mike, said he'd been at the place for over 10 years.. clearly, he liked coming to work. It's great to see! We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our experience at the Old Surrey Restaurant and will 100% be back again, as well as plan. On gifting dinner to the in laws. If a restaurant could have a perfect score, in my books, this would be almost (if not) it!

The wine flights were not great. The wines tasted oxidized. The service was OK, the guys doing the table side were excellent. I feel that considering it was not just any anniversary but our 25th, they did nothing to make the evening feel special which was disappointing. I'm disappointed as I was so excited to try Old Surrey Restaurant as we were hoping we could come here going forward for birthdays and anniversaries.

The interior was nice and modern. Comfy chairs, sleek tables and I got to choose a bigger table with a lazy Susan in the middle. A couple of staff members were quick to help us with teas or anything else we needed. We chose the Yang Chow Fried Rice which came in a very unique pyramid configuration. We also ordered eggplant, har gow, sui mai and BBQ pork buns. All were pretty standard, with my only disappointment being the BBQ pork buns. I'm not sure what happened with the steamer or the steaming process, but 2/3 buns in the bamboo container came out looking good and fluffy, but the third came out looking and feeling quite soggy. Good solid choice for Dim Sum if you are in South Surrey. I'd be interested in trying their dinner dishes in the near future.

Which means not the friendliest or best, but that is usually the sign of a great restaurant. We had to ask for the dim sum menu, which isn't extensive but has all the staples. Siu Mai, har gow, char siu bao. The food was decent and we did order one other dish off the regular menu, which was a veggie dish, but they said they could only make Chinese broccoli for lunch. Honestly, there are other restaurants in this strip mall plaza that I'd try before going back, but in a pinch it isn't terrible.

In addition to South Surrey, they have 4 other locations the greater Vancouver area (Robson, Broadway & Oak, Kitsilano, and Davie). Up until this point, I had never tried Malaysian Cuisine, was always curious, but it just never happened. On a side note, I remember the first time I tried Thai food, back in Nashville when I was in my mid 30s. Odd that it took me that long and even odder considering I grew up in Brooklyn and New York City, the melting pot of the country. I didn't really have a concept of the distinction between different types of Asian food, my only point of reference was Chinese food. I remember being blown away upon that first time trying Thai food (and hooked ever since) and the experience was quite the same with my experience with Malaysian cuisine. We meant to order two appetizers but through a miscommunication, actually ordered three, oops! It was a good problem to have. Between the appetizers and the main dishes, while each course was a generous serving, nothing was heavy or made me feel bloated in any way. At the same time, the flavors just seemed to burst, with very distinct and pleasing tastes while combined with beautifully decorative touches that were aesthetically appetizing! The Eggplant Fries were really interesting. Personally, I find eggplant can be challenging to work, to get flavored just right and get cooked enough so it's not rough to eat but not cooked so much that it becomes mushy. Maybe it's just me but I do struggle with that at times. I found the fries to be a perfect balance between firm enough to warrant being called "fries" with just the right amount of chew, not too mushy. The Spring Roll Lettuce Wraps were beautiful, creative and imaginative. You place the spring roll inside the lettuce along with the vibrant red cabbage, fold the lettuce and dip into the sauce *chef's kiss* Both the Tofu Goreng appetizer and Tumeric Coconut Spinach were bursting with flavor. The Pineapple Fried Rice also had an amazing depth of flavor along with the beautiful presentation inside the pineapple. Last, but definitely not least .. I've never had anything like their Mango Margarita. As clear to see in the picture, it's filled with fresh ripe whole mango pieces which really helped elevate this drink to the next stratosphere lol. If this is what I can expect when eating Malaysian Cuisine, count me in for a repeat performance!

This was my first visit to this location but I've eaten at many Keg locations across Canada. I've always recommended the Keg as the best place to get a great steak due to the consistency in the quality of their food as well as the overall experience in dining out at their restaurants. On this particular visit, the service was excellent. Our party was quite large but absolutely everyone felt taken care of and our server was truly wonderful. It was quite loud in the restaurant because it was really busy and everyone was having a great time, but she managed to get everyone's order correct and did a fantastic job. The downside on this visit was the food. I ordered a steak with lobster, which is not something I would usually order. My go-to meal choice has almost always been the Filet Classic dinner, which has never disappointed me before. As it was a special occasion, I splurged and added a lobster tail. I was actually very surprised when my plate arrived to see a dried up, almost mangled-looking, and quite small, lobster tail. I did bring it to the server's attention and she immediately brought a replacement; however that one wasn't much better. It did not taste very good and had a rubbery consistency. I honestly didn't want to make a big deal about it as I didn't want to upset my friend (the guest of honour) who was sitting beside me. I did ask for a box to take the rest of my meal home, but a couple of other things I noticed were the green beans had not been properly trimmed and still had the stems connecting several beans together, which told me the kitchen staff was not prepping the food with much care. The vegetables were not well seasoned, again, very unusual for a Keg meal. I will say that the steak was well cooked to mid-rare as I requested, but the rest of the meal just fell flat for me this visit. The Keg has always been a place I recommend to anyone looking for a great night out but when people are spending upwards of $100 per person on a meal, they hope every part of that experience is worth their hard-earned money. I hope the kitchen staff pays more attention to their food prep going forward as I know the Keg is definitely capable of providing a five-star experience.

The…read morebirthday boy's love for meat is legendary--think T-Rex at a steakhouse--while I'm a reluctant vegetarian, more out of necessity than choice (thanks, digestive system). Service? Always top-notch. I've never met a server here who wasn't excellent. The birthday boy stuck to his tried-and-true favourite, while I set out on a culinary adventure and ordered the vegetarian Golden Harvest Bowl. Turns out, this bowl should've been taste-tested by Gordon Ramsay first--he'd have launched it across the room, where it would have landed on the wall in a glorious Jackson Pollock tribute. The falafels? More like "fail-afels"--they were so dark and mushy, I'm convinced they were science experiments gone wrong. The taste was like someone spilled a cauldron full of salty brown gravy mix into the batter, and then shrunk them to the size of a hedgehog chocolate (adorable, but only if you're not planning to eat them). I couldn't even choke down one--my taste buds staged a mutiny. The rice, masquerading as "pilaf," was really just yellow rice impersonating something more exotic, while desperately dreaming of spices and salt. The side? Two halved cherry tomatoes (bless their hearts) and about three tablespoons of angrily chopped raw red cabbage. No seasoning on those either, unless "disappointment" counts. Beneath the rice lay a mysterious yellow mush, possibly sauce, possibly another science experiment. All of it was served at less-than-room temperature--so cold it could've auditioned for a role as the iceberg in Titanic. I ate the cherry tomatoes and red cabbage, and left the rest as a modern art installation on my plate. Meanwhile, the birthday boy was happily tucking into his main, but his beloved Mushrooms Neptune appetizer had fallen from grace. He remembered the glorious old days--big, juicy mushroom caps, with real seafood bits swimming in cream cheese and mozzarella. Now? Just a couple of mushroom scraps, zero seafood, and the cream cheese had the consistency of existential dread. COVID changed a lot: portion sizes shrank, quality dove off a cliff, and prices soared like a Vancouver Condo rent. But come on - this is The Keg! The bill for our alcohol-free meal? A cool $140.00. For that price, we could've hit the Indian place on Scott Road and dined like royalty, with both of our bellies full - and not of regret either! Moral of the story? Never expect a decent ethnic-vegetarian dish at a restaurant where the mascot is a ribeye. If you're a vegetarian tagging along, eat before, and just show up for the laughs. You'll have more fun, and your stomach will thank you. As for the Golden Harvest Bowl at The Keg? I recommend it only if you're looking for a new way to start a Riot of Disappointment. Sorry, no photos. I was so stunned I forgot to take pictures.

I also ordered full bowl of clam chowder to try out. The ling cod was fried perfectly , 2pc decent portion size crispy and the meat was moist. I did wish it was seasoned as the meat itself tasted bland but fresh as fish goes. Adding a bit of salt on it before dipping in the tartar sauce helped. The chips nice and crispy, soft interior and seasoned well. The coslaw was lightly dressed, I prefer a bit more dressing but it was still ok. The chowder was creamy and full of seafood. Very tasty and I probably shouldn't have gotten a full bowl as wifey couldn't help much with sharing and I was reaching capacity with the fish and chips. The sour dough bread that came with the chowder was toasted expertly as it was crispy on the exterior and still had a nice soft chew interior which i love. Wifeys Benny i didn't try so cannot attest to its taste but she seemed to enjoy it. I did eat a couple of her home style potatoes and this were crispy and soft in the middle. Very nice.
