I have mixed feelings about Montrose Nails. I visited it as an out-of-towner due to the good Yelp reviews. The women were friendly and did a wonderful job with my shellac mani/pedi. I felt they took the time to do a careful and thorough job. Although I didn't get the exact type of French manicure I asked for, I chalked it up to my not communicating it well enough. Fast forward to two weeks later. I'm at my normal nail salon in Austin to get another manicure. My nail tech *CANNOT* remove the polish from my nails, even after long soaking periods and buffing. She kept repeating that she didn't know what they had used on my nails at Montrose Nails, but that it wasn't shellac. My nails had gotten very thin and were tearing. Now, a month later, my nails are still very thin and messed up. So, the nail services I received were very good, but the polish they used ruined my nails. No bueno. read more

I just love this place. They do a great job on Shellac manicures and they LAST!! At other places - it's a hit or miss on when the shellac will peel off. Here - the shellac lasts for at least 2 weeks, sometimes even 3! In addition to the great quality work, it's $25 for a shellac mani or regular spa pedi. I also love that this is a family business made up of 6 sisters. The only other thing to know about this place is that it is a VERY busy gem, they usually don't have space for walk-ins. Make an appointment before to guarantee a spot! I've seen lots of people turned away bc they don't have any more spots. I've been coming regularly for 9 months now. I got a manicure and a pedicure. I called and made a reservation before hand and that seemed like it was a smart idea. Many clients were regulars. The massages they gave on my arms and legs were awesome. The ladies really took their time rubbing in the lotion. When I left, my nails were lovely and I felt that they paid attention to details. I took off a star because the inside is seriously lacking in environment and space. Also, I don't like when places do your manicure and pedicure at the same time (although some people might). read more

Montrose Nails is the best nail salon I have ever been to. I used to live in Houston and thiswas my "go to" nail salon. I recently moved back to Boston and I just cannot seem to find a nail salon in the Boston area that is just as good as Montrose nails with reasonable prices. All of the decent nail salons in Boston are ridiculously expensive. Montorse nails does an amazing job at a reasonable price. The salon is extremely clean. The staff is nice and friendly. They do not bicker in another language in front of you like several other nail salons. They have excellent manners. They are quick and efficient. You can get a manicure and pedicure at the same time. TIP: If you want to book multiple appointments at once (like for you and your giflfriends), call a few days in advance. This place is super busy and appointments fill up fairly quickly, especially on the weekends. Even if you are going solo, I suggest making an appointment several days in advance if you are looking for a specific time. I miss Montose Nails and can only hope to find a similar salon in Boston! read more

This is a small and quaint little place in Montrose that has lots of potential. I needed a nail spot near me because I was in a crunch and could not get to my regular nail salon. I received a shellac manicure by Debbie which bubbled and peeled with in a week. VERY disappointing, especially for all the great reviews I read. However, Debbie was very sweet and they fit me into their schedule which was convenient. My advice would be to 1. Make an appointment. Everyone seemed to have them there and they are somewhat turned off by walk ins. 2. If you are not a regular customer (which most everyone is) You will get put with the less advanced nail technicians or technicians who are not requested by clients. 1 star for the manicure 2 stars for the friendliness of the nail technician and service that I viewed between regular customers and employees. read more

Montrose nails is awesome! They have about average prices with a great selection of colors, gel, shellac and vinyl. Ask for Kim if you want nail art. They're always booked so make an appointment. If you have the time and can sit for one hour plus, get the reflexology pedicure......it's amazing so relaxing and the massage lasts forever. Not everyone is equally good here, find ur favorite person and make an appointment. In general the older ladies aren't as good. Tran is good too! Wish it was a little less messy. When I moved to Montrose from Sugar Land I cringed at the thought of having to find a new nail salon, especially because I was used to the fancy spa-like places in my suburban area. They have the best gel color selection ive ever seen, and ive never had lifting after getting a gel mamicure here! Bonus points as they stay open until 7p.m. during the week! SCORE! The place is VERY small, but they make due, and the service was very friendly, they were obviously busy. I was able to get a solid mani/pedi in under an hour. The prices were good, mani pedi for under $50, and they really took their time, and didn't make me feel like I was in a drive through. Consistently Excellent I have used this salon for 5 years and every single time they have done an excellent job. Consistency means I can depend on them to do a great job and I don't have to worry - I KNOW I will get a great job. They are within 5 minutes of downtown and on more than 1 occasion I told them I had one hour for lunch and that included time to get to and return from their shop and they delivered not only a great job but in record time. If I want to relax and take my time they can deliver that also. I used acrylic nails for years (and theirs are superb) because I trained and presented for many audiences so my hands had to look perfect. They do the best job on acrylics that I have ever seen. I changed to natural when I retired and I go two weeks easily without a problem. This week I decided I needed to GO ASTROs so I asked for navy and orange and they were so precise to be sure no color touched my skin and I appreciate professionalism. They are exceptionally clean and are very careful. And here's an important point: Once I was in a big hurry and I was overcharged $10. Two weeks later I came into the shop and the manicurist immediately said, "Oh you overpaid last time!!" I didn't even know it - they were very honest. They are Vietnamese and a few of them do not speak perfect English and the owner isn't talkative and outgoing but they are superb at their job, honest, clean, professional and very kind. They do a better job than any salon I have found and I tried many before ending up here. These are good people who do an excellent job. I got a shellac French mani (off white for a more natural look) and regular spa pedi. Both turned out great. Shellac mani is only $23 + $5 for the French. It's over 3 weeks out and they still look pretty good! If you look closely, you can see it's grown out, but the nail polish is still on well enough and not peeling so that I haven't gone nuts and picked it all off. We were a little confused when we walked in as no one greeted us, but once we were able to communicate our needs the wait wasn't too long. Its a small room painted a bright melon color. Definitely a no frills place, but they were friendly, accommodated our walk in and my shellac was meticulously applied. My biggest complaint is the odd shape of the space prevented my friend and i from being able to see each other at all. Not the worst thing ever, but not ideal when you want to catch up. The clientele was diverse, from students to an older lady jabbering away on her phone about some fairly private subjects. Not sure I'll be back, but I enjoyed my manicure. read more

A couple of times Ivy was booked I used tried others and while the job was adequate, they just didn't live up to her high standards. The place is very clean and always has quiet music playing. All techs wear matching scrubs, speak ok English, don't scream Vietnamese across the room, and won't have a conversation unless you engage them first. I love that they take their time to do a good job. $50 for a shellac mani and spa pedi is sooo cheap. Ivy has done my shellac a couple of times and it lasts almost two full weeks with only minor chipping, which is super rare for me considering the rough way I treat my nails. $25 for a quality shellac mani is hard to beat! My roommate is a triathlete and is missing a couple of toenails (her nail beds are completely exposed). Montrose Nails actually managed to sculpt fake toenails out of gel, and they lasted about a month. They caused a little pain when they hit the front of her shoes, so I wouldn't recommend this as a daily solution, but if you're missing some toenails and you need to look well polished for a special event, the girls at Montrose Nails will fix you right up. read more

Although this place is pricier than my usuals (I'm from LA originally) they did an absolutely fantastic job on my nails.
