We went dinner tonight based on a visit I made a couple months ago during a Saturday lunch time. My previous visit was amazing-great service and delicious food. Tonight was a different story. Our server was very distracted. She never introduced herself, didn't offer the specials, and didn't extend any effort to make our visit pleasant or welcoming. I will say that the restaurant was busy and there were only two or three servers. My take on potential staffing shortages is -- management shouldn't fill every table of there won't be adequate service. The onion rings/straws were super spicy and my flatbread & the fish were over cooked (that wasn't the case with any of those plates the last time I was there) Two good things-they have a nice offering of Maine brews. And they don't fill their water glasses with ice. The restaurant is handicapped accessible-no stairs. It is clean, too.

We were in Boothbay for Gardens Aglow and honestly weren't sure if we wanted to make the 30-minute drive out to Montsweag at first especially after a long day. But every restaurant in Boothbay had over an hour wait, and I can confidently say I am SO glad we couldn't get a reservation anywhere else because it led us here. We got a reservation right away, were seated early, and everything from start to finish was incredible. The food tasted so fresh and flavorful, the drinks were amazing, and the atmosphere was perfect . Cozy but still lively with live music. Truly one of those places where nothing misses. I'm from out of state and already planning to come back next year just to eat here again. I honestly can't say enough good things about Montsweag. So worth the drive and then some!

Mussels for a starter. They were a red wine & blue cheese mix OMG! Yum. Then a sirloin steak salad. What a great spice on the steak. That was a great lunch, probably the tastiest we've had yet

Bartender greeted us when we arrived and couldn't have been more welcoming. Patio, Dining room and bar seats open on this Sunday afternoon. Clean and nice looking. Oodles of options on the menu ... and quite tasty! That is the French Onion Soup was outstanding. The blueberry prosciutto flatbread - while tasty - missed the mark on covering the dough. And my desire for chicken tenders - well, should've passed entirely!! Overcooked and tough. Sadly, the bill for lunch was high & not representative of "good eats". Asking for a takeaway soda was met with disdain and handed a kiddie cup! I would absolutely give a NEGATIVE star count- for the server, Lindsey and her incredibly rude and dismissive attitude - she either needs to find a new line of work or have a remedial course on how-to be gracious and respectful and helpful to her customers. Especially the ones passing through town and very willing to tell others to keep on driving!

Have driven past the Montsweagmany times and never stopped. For a brief time it was closed and wondered if it would reopen. Thankfully they did. Took the time and made sure to stop this time while in the area. Parking was easy and area in front well lit. Entered and sat immediately at the bar. Atmosphere was exposed beams and broad panel wood flooring in main dining room while in the bar area exposed concrete. I notice all chairs low and high had tennis balls on their legs! Interesting touch. Live music was playing and the folks were all enjoying. Menu has a decent selection of items, husband had their burger and I had their fish tacos. I was hesitant at first because of the spice listed but was assured by the bartender that it was not over whelming. Burger was fresh and tasty and the tacos were delicious. The perfect amount of heat, not burning down to my stomach. Over all it was a nice experience and when we are back this way Will stop again.

We were on our way from Portland to Belfast and decided to stop for lunch. We were seated on the back patio which was surrounded with flowers and was quite charming. Our server, Nicole was wonderful. She was busy waiting tables both inside and on the patio and she did her best to make sure we were taken care of. We had the House Focaccia with the whipped Ricotta and Pesto, a half dozen local oysters and the Classic Fish & Chips. Everything was wonderful but I have to say the Fish & Chips was one of the best I have had and I order Fish & Chips quite often since I am pescatarian. The French fries were also really, really good. They were fresh cut and cooked perfectly. It is worth stopping if you are in the area. Just be patient because like restaurants all over, they are dealing with staffing issues. Tasty Travels!

I went to Montsweag to meet a friend that lives in the mid coast area for lunch. Although Montsweag is a well known landmark, I had never been and was looking forward to checking it out. It was surprisingly busy for lunchtime on a weekday afternoon in December. Lots of people day drinking at the bar, and lots seated, having lunch. As other reviews said, it was quite noisy, which wasn't a problem for us. The rustic barn decor seemed to match the historic building. The service was decent, we each had a drink, salad, and split a dessert. Honestly, everything was okay, this just isn't my kind of place. The description on Yelp says "lots of vegetarian options" which simply is not true. I think out of the whole menu I had two salads to choose from because even most of the salads had meat. The salad was okay, although I wasn't crazy about the canned mandarin oranges on top. Montsweag seems like kind of a traditional meat and potatoes place that might appeal to an older crowd who would enjoy going out for pot roast. As I recall, on the day we were there one of the specials was rabbit. The service was prompt and polite, the food was okay, Montsweag is just not my kind of place.

Service and food were excellent! My wife got the southern fried chicken. It was amazing. I got the ribeye. Best ribeye I've ever eaten!

The Pub is inside the main building of an Inn. Parking was a bit confusing. We didn't think to call ahead so could not get a table with a view but inside was charmingly dark and cozy. The staff were all very good. I think our waiter was Rinaldo. He was very friendly even as the place filled up. I got an Aperol Spritz that was delicious. I had a lobster roll here as they offer it warm with butter and not with mayo. You actually had the choice of cold with mayo or the correct way (warm with butter). It was $19 which was lower than other spot's market price and while it was maybe smaller than some, it was the perfect size for me. It really was well done. The roll was warm, buttery & toasted to have enough crisp. The lobster was cooked to perfection. My dinner companion got muscles in broth and was also a big fan. I only wish I had room for dessert because I overhead the magic words..... bread pudding. Will definitely go back here. Thank you for the great meal!

Service was a tad slow, but we managed. I opted for some lobster bisque, crabcakes, and the Lawnmere flatbread. The soup was pretty good. There were large chunks of lobster in the soup. The garnish was a nice addition. The crab cakes were ok. The lacked a little flavor for me. The corn salsa was pretty good! The Lawnmere seemed like a good idea on the menu, but oddly it lacked flavor. I had high hopes for this flatbread. I feel like we missed a mark here. The crust was great. My key lime pie was delicious. The coconut really added to the dish. My son devoured his pub burger and had no complaints. My husband said his calamari and fish tacos were ok. The heirloom tomato salad was the best. The arugula has a nice taste to it along with the layer of ricotta cheese under it all. The flavors really blended well with this dish. The bathroom was 10/10 for me they had a theme and ran with it and I love it. The lobster themed wallpaper really made it overall we had a nice lunch. Nothing spectacular. Maybe dinner is the meal to have here. We went at 2pm for a late lunch early dinner.

I was born and raised in Maine and come back a couple times a year to see my mom here in Brunswick…read more I hadn't been yet to the Ram and Bull which took over a previous restaurant spot, and decided to give it a try based on the fact that one of their weekly specials was lobster stew. Let me be clear, I am typically disappointed over and over by the lobster stew I have in Maine. In my mind, it should be classic, with milk, butter, Sherry, and lobster meat. I've been searching for this version from my childhood for the past 30+ years and I finally found it here. Have they added a tiny garnish of rosemary to the top? Yes. Does it make me angry or detract from the sweet perfect flavors of the stew? No. And the lobster meat in the stew was tender, as it should be, rather than having simmered way too long and being tough and chewy. Their crabcakes also were nice and generous, although I don't love the spicy remoulade (I feel it's too strong for delicate crab flavor) and the texture was a bit soft for me. I'm looking forward to being back during my stay and trying more items from the menu! Oh, and don't sleep on the service here, it was excellent. From several people asking me how my meal was or just saying hello, to the amazing Travis behind the bar with his big fabulous personality. Yay!

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Fun eatery with some unexpected vegetarian options…read more The hubby and I stopped in for a weekday lunch with a friend who'd been there before. It had that classic old timey tavern look, with lots of dark polished wood, and their menu, featuring comfort/pub fare, was in keeping with the ambiance. I had their crab cakes, which weren't too bready or greasy and came with a tasty spicy creamy sauce. I also had a cup of their tomato soup, which had tiny grilled cheese sandwich bites on a skewer perched on the bowl--such a fun idea! Accompanied by a glass of crisp chenin blanc, it was an awesome lunch. The hubby enjoyed his beet Reuben, which isn't something you see on a lot of menus. Our friend had the chicken pot pie, which he thought was just so-so. He liked the puff pastry crust but the filling didn't quite do it for him. Our server was friendly and funny and we had a great time overall.
