I came here because of the really great reviews here and elsewhere, and they did not disappoint. They have been in this location in Joshua Tree for about two and a half years because they needed more room, and have a very large property. They serve the fleet of California Highway Patrol cars as well. I brought my car in to have the AC serviced, oil changed, and have a general "look-over" (diagnostic). They were slammed, and I had to schedule an appointment for the next week. They called to confirm my appointment. When I arrived, the person behind the counter already had detailed notes of the three things I mentioned, even noting that I had mentioned that the AC was blowing colder air on the passenger's side than the driver's side. Between these two things, this was already a great sign that they are well run. The work was done the same day, and the person went over what they did and why. They replaced a couple of the valves for the AC unit at no extra charge, leaving a dye as well so that if it continued leaking, they would be able to track it down easily. They didn't find anything else at issue with the car. The price they charged for everything was reasonable for the amount of work done. Everyone seemed friendly. The front office is large and seemed well-organized. I did not see the shop, but with way everything is parked on the outside and how large the building is, I suspect that it is also neat and well-organized, often a great sign for a shop. I needed my yearly oil change done, but since I moved to Joshua Tree recently I had no idea where to go. So, after reading the reviews on Yelp I decided to go to Monument Motors. I'm so glad I did! Not only did they do an outstanding job on my oil change. I also had a a/c issue, it was blowing hot air instead of cooling air. They fixed that issue also. But, what was really important is that it didn't cost me an arm and a leg to have it all fixed!! So very impressed by the outstanding service, courtesy and caring of this business. I have been using Monument Motors before they were Monument Motors I met them at Ford and followed them all over town. Well, to their current huge building anyway. I never am concerned that I might be lied to or cheated. I actually trust them more than I have trusted 3 of my 4 brothers. Not even honest to a fault. They are just totally honest. They won't promise they can fix something that needs attention from a different auto repair business. My 1998 Dodge Dakota truck got messed up driving back and forth at King of the Hammers last year.I knew there was a power steering fluid leak, but that is all I knew. So I kept adding fluid. Hey, I'm a girl. If it needs fluid, I'll give it fluid. KOH is coming up next week. I need to make sure that my truck can get me there and home each day. I drop off my truck last week sometime, and told Brandon what *I* a mere female thought was the problem, but what do I know? Yes! I was correct on the hose to the power steering fluid container needing to be replaced, Yes! What I didn't know because I am NOT a mechanic is that the major issue was the rack and pinion. It was leaking fluid and needed replacing. Ouch. it costs $$ to replace. I had saved my KOH money so I could get my truck checked out. I just said, "okay. replace it. I have KOH money I have been saving for the truck." I picked my truck up today. It was so nice to have it back again. Oh, and Brandon got my wiper fluid situation repaired. Danged rodents had chewed them all up. Take your vehicles to Monument Motors, I know there are good mechanics in the Morongo Basin. I do 't know f they are 'gooder' than Monument Motors, though. I had a wonderful experience with Monument. Our truck died and I called Monument to see if they could help. They were booked for 2 weeks but gave me some advice over the phone. The next day the truck was able to start so I decided to drive over to Monument to see if they'd be willing to take a quick look. They found the real problem ( which was not the head gasket) and we had our truck back in a couple days. I've been a Honda owner for decades and used to only take my cars to the dealership. Yes, I'm one of those. When I moved out to Joshua Tree, I felt worried that I'd need to drive all the way into Coachella Valley to get my car worked on until I discovered Monument. I couldn't believe my luck! These guys were once Honda Certified technicians. They are honest, reliable, friendly, thorough, and don't charge dealership prices -- not even close! And they don't only work on Hondas; they know all kinds of cars, foreign and domestic. Even the cops trust their cars with them (I see their troopers in the lot sometimes). We unfortunately had to come back about a week or two later due to a completely different issue. They told us the problem and even gave a recommendation of a shop they knew could help us! There is no one else I would trust with my vehicle. I have had them do a manifold gasket, a new exhaust system, brakes, serpentine belt, and an oil change. All repairs were done excellently, reasonably and when they noticed a leak in my back break, they repaired it at no charge since they had recently worked on my breaks. I started with Justin before he started up Astro Boba, and have continued with Brandon in Justin's absence. I also had an instance when my check engine light came on and Brandon checked it out and diagnosed it as my locking gas cap, he was correct I replaced the locking cap with the original gas cap and the light went off within two days. They are the most honest auto repair shop I have encountered since my father sold his repair shop in the 90's. I highly recommend everyone I come across who needs auto repair to go to Monument Motors, and other than my son and ex (who vetted Monument for me and suggested I go there) no one opens my car hood besides Monument Motors. read more

I can't say enough good things about this shop. They are honest they are efficient and they are fair and they will tell you exactly what's wrong with your car. I was working down in Vista and I had another shop look at my car and they gave me a look a list of 20, things wrong with my car, and the price quotes were changing by the minute and I had a bad feeling I was being Conned. I decided to sit on it and when I was in Joshua tree, my car started acting up and I realized I couldn't wait on these repairs. I read all the fantastic reviews about monument motors and decided to a week until they had an opening and I don't regret waiting. They told me exactly what was wrong with my car and they were honest with me about that and did not invent fake problems with the car to rack up a bigger bill. I took my car in to get the brake pads replaced and to get the rotors replaced because my steering wheel was shaking violently and my brakes were acting up on the mountains. I have a 1000 mile drive back up to Humboldt County I am far from home woman alone, I was definitely anxious about doing that drive with my car having problems. I'm new to the Morongo Basin living in Joshua Tree now and needed to find an experienced, reliable, and reasonably priced mechanic. Monument Motors has not only met those expectations, but exceeded them. I contacted them for the first time when I was having AC problems and with the hot summer coming on it became an ironclad necessity to have a functioning air conditioning system in my 1997 Tacoma. I had to take the truck in more than once which didn't bother me a bit. When you see Highway Patrol and San Bernardino Sheriff's patrol vehicles in their parking area you know you've come to the right place. My truck is 24 years old and has over 320K miles on it. I love this truck and have no plans to get another vehicle. They worked on the system once and the problem was not solved, so Justin let me bring it in ASAP. Some parts were replaced but in a couple of days my AC failed again. Someone once said that "third time is a charm", and that is totally true in this case. Justin once again said bring it in ASAP. There was no charge on this third trip to their shop, and they made it right. You are NEVER going to find a perfect mechanic anywhere. They struggle to solve some problems just like anyone else. This is not a new experience at all for me as my former mechanic in Orange County also did not always have all the answers either, but was honest and trustworthy much like Monument Motors. Once you find a diamond like Monument it's always smart to recognize what you've found and maintain your loyalty and build a relationship with them. These guys know what they're doing and will pursue a solution to whatever problem you encounter until it is solved. Never rush your mechanic. Be patient, communicate with them and always trust them once you find a great one like Monument. These guys are honest, reliable, warm and friendly and will take care of you. And to top it off their prices are reasonable. Kudos to Justin, Brandon, and the entire team at Monument Motors. GO HERE!!!! These guys are the best! Have you ever had such a good experience at an auto repair shop that you actually want to go back and hang out there??? Well that's how great they are! I can't make this stuff up. Here's the deal I was in Joshua Tree NP (1000 miles away from my home) and inside the park all my engine lights started going off, my truck suddenly was making hella noises and I was getting scarred. I yelped a repair shop and chose this one and drove my overheating engine there only for it to die right when I turned into their shop. They said they didn't have time but they'd move it out of the way for me, but then they popped the hood and somehow just started fixing it! I was either going to need a new hose or a new engine. Even if they couldn't fix it this review would be here. They are just genuine nice people trying they're best to take care of others and their vehicles. I wish they were in Tahoe because they'd be my go to repair shop! My radiator cracked and started spraying coolant all over a national park yesterday. It was not fun and I do not recommend it. I DO, however, recommend this business if you happen to suffer a similar fate hundreds of miles away from home (like yours truly). Thoroughly stranded, I called about a dozen different mechanics in the area. All of them quoted ridiculously high costs and/or shunned me... all but one. These guys at Monument Motors understood my dire predicament and were kind enough to squeeze me in for an emergency repair. My impression is that these guys are thorough and honest. I'm an amateur mechanic and I only take my baby to my guy (that I know & trust) if it is too big of a job for one man and his paltry tool set. So, yes, I was terrified. Were they going to try to tell me that my car was totaled and I'd be better off selling it to them for $100? (Yes, that has happened to me. I laughed. The car wasn't totaled and is worth 60x that. Lol.) To my pleasant surprise, they didn't try to hike up a price to take advantage of my desperate situation. They made the repair, gave me a fair evaluation and mentioned some things that are going to need attention in the future. (Side note: These were things that were already on my radar, which is why I feel confident about their honesty.) Bottom line: If my beloved Jeep should ever need assistance, and my local mechanic is out of town, and my car can survive the 200-mile drive, then I will bring her back to Monument - because this might be the only other mechanic shop that I trust. These guys are just good old fashion good mechanics. Sometimes the proof is when things don't Go right. Had the brakes done front and back. Drums rotors and pads & shoes. Had a weird noise brought it back in and without hesitation took it in and fixed the issues with apologies. They way they were able to fix my vehicle and repair the issues without any push back tells you the kind of people who own and run this place. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Price was more than fair. Went to another place in YV starts with a "w" the same exact repair was quoted for over $500 more than what was quoted at Monument. We moved out to the desert during COVID and didn't realize the damage that rodents can do to a car. They chewed the electrical wires and our truck wouldn't start. I called Monument and they said that I could tow it there and drop it off. I didn't have to go with and just left a note for Justin. My wife's car had broken down in Twentynine Palms and I had it Towed to Monument Motors because I heard Twentynine Palms mechanics are crooks. Once it was towed here they had the car lifted and looked at it right away. Unfortunately my wife blew her motor and the damage was worth more than the car. Monument let me keep my car at their lot and didn't charge me a storage fee. The employees were very friendly and very honest. I recently purchased four tires on the buy 3 and get one free plan. Just so you know this is a classic bait and switch scam. The tires were $118.99 each. I was quoted a price of $576.89. When I asked how the cost got up from $357.97 the sales agent rattled off a bunch of fees ie. taxes, mount and balance etc. I did not hear about the mandatory tire protection plan included in the deal for $71.96. So my savings were $47.03 instead of $118.99. It says in the contract included with the sales invoice that the protection plan can be cancelled within 30 days. I called to cancel and was informed that would void the "buy 3 get 1 free offer." Just be aware that the "deal" is a bait and switch and not what it appears to be at first glance. THIS REVIEW WAS MISTAKENLY POSTED TO MONUMENT MOTORS. IT IS INTENDED FOR BIG O TIRES IN YUCCA VALLEY My apologies to the folks at Monument Motors. read more
