I'm honestly surprised by how highly rated this place is based on my experience. To start, the music was extremely loud, making it difficult to relax or have a conversation. On top of that, my server never checked on me, and I eventually had to flag down another staff member for assistance. I ordered a tea and was shocked to be charged $4 for Stash tea, which is a very low-quality, mass-market tea. At that price point, I would expect something of much higher quality. The kimchi I ordered was unbearably spicy -- far beyond anything I've experienced before -- to the point that it was completely inedible. When I asked another server if I could switch it for something else, they agreed that it was excessively spicy. This dish really needs a warning on the menu. I switched to the pickles, which were also disappointing. They were overly sweet and heavily dominated by sesame oil, lacking balance. Finally, I ordered the beef bulgogi, which was by far the most disappointing dish. The tofu tasted off, the broth had virtually no flavor, and the beef was overcooked and tough. Overall, the food quality, service, and atmosphere did not come close to matching the high ratings this place has received. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. read more

The energy was really lively and the servers were so friendly:) We got the japchae, croquettes, soy fried chicken, and radish kimchi. The croquettes were my favorite and had a delicious basil sauce. The chicken was crisp and tasty, japchae was piping hot. The only thing I didn't like was the radish kimchi, I found it a little bland and should've got something more pickled to add acid to the meal. We stumbled upon Moon Pocha last Sunday, found it fresh, fun, and delicious. We're definitely going back and bringing family and friends. Moon Pocha achieves being creative and traditional, breaking the mold of the standard Korean menu. A number of the dishes were from Korean street food and showed some influence of the American military presence, like Army Stew which includes Spam and sausage along with more traditional ingredients. The special Ban Chan was thick sauce called "military paste" which was a spicy mixture of gochujang, minced beef, and vegetables surrounded by thinly sliced carrot, daikon and cucumber to dip into the sauce. Our mains were Tsuran Lamb Bites and the Bogogi Pot. The Tsuran Lamb Bites had a generous portion of grilled lamb chunks, yellow pickled daikon, roasted garlic, cilantro and a very interesting dry cumin dip. The Bulgogi Pot included beef ribeye, clear sweet potato noodles, interesting black mushrooms, tofu onions, cabbage, carrots and scallions. They call their kim chee Krispy Kimchi because it is made fresh daily, brined but not fermented. There were a lot more dishes on their menu -- two chicken items, soups and "Street Food" 4 choices which included Jap-Chae and a dish with rice cakes, fishcakes, beef and chicken broth, boiled egg and scallions. Moon Pocha makes a corn tea which they served iced. It was a great complement to our meal. Possibly because one of us is Korean, Chef Moon came out and talked with us about the restaurant and his culinary philosophy. He is an enthusiastic, creative, young man and it was a real treat to meet him. read more

As a Korean American who moved from LA to Portland last year, it was exciting to hear that a new restaurant serving Korean street and bar food opened up in an area where there is a dearth of such restaurants. I went here with 3 others today, and we were told it was going to be 1 hour wait (with 2 parties ahead of us) on a Saturday night at 6:45 pm, so be prepared to wait or show up earlier to beat the crowd. It really took 40 minutes until we got seated. Moon Pocha had modern decor and vibe, but its menu did list Korean street food like tteokbukki and odanggook, which we ordered, along with pork soup (served with kimchi) which I think is their take of 돼지국밥. The odangguk (fish cake soup) was very bland. I'm accustomed to much more flavorful, rich broth served at restaurants in LA or Korea or by my mom back at home. The tteokbukki was fine, nothing outstanding or bad about it. My friends commented that this was a bit too spicy for them (I thought it had a little kick but it was enjoyable). The pork soup was also so bland. Though you can season it with gochujang paste traditionally (which they did provide at Moon), it should still have more of the rich, pork flavor on its own, and Moon's version lacked that. The kimchi was actually the standout - one of the best kimchi I've tried in Portland so far. Overall, Moon pocha was just OK especially in an area where authentic Korean bar or street food is scarce, but portions were on the smaller side, and for the price and quality, I'll continue my search in Beaverton or elsewhere for more flavorful Korean street and bar food that are more reasonably priced. read more

If I've never had Korean food, I think this food would be amazing, but, comparing it to its intention, the food was mid. We had the KFC, teokkbokki, kimchi, spicy pork, and cheese corn. All the gochujang flavored items (KFC, spicy pork, and kimchi) were all lacking flavor. Very minimal spice, which is good for those who can't handle, but still lacked substance. The teokkbokki was solid - but just solid. We were very fond of the cheese corn though, at most spots, cheese corn is quite expensive, but they gave a generous serving which was quite nice. Inside looks super cute and cozy, but I haven't sat in there yet purely because I am a sucker for outdoor seating and really love theirs! It's colorful and inviting. Bonus: lots of cute dogs walk by.
