    Egg Custard w/Crab
    David K.

This was our early Valentine's dinner. I really wanted to love it, but I left a bit disappointed. Food: Citron Tea Soda (3/5) Made with citrus peel, honey, lemon, candied ginger, and soda. My wife said it tasted like lemon soda. It was fine, but not memorable for the price. Accompaniments (Gimbap): - Charred broccolini (4/5) Good and nicely cooked. - Smash'd Cukes (5/5) Sour and bright with an unexpected flavor mix. Whoa. Very good. - Dubu jorim (5/5) Excellent. Thick, textured, and savory. One of the highlights of the meal. Dry-Aged Ora King Salmon Hwe (5/5) Excellent. Tender and flavorful. I really wish there had been more of this. Egg Custard (5/5) Excellent. They accommodated our request for no crab, which we really appreciated. Teres Major Steak a la Dokkaebi (2/5) Good sauce and flavor, but far too tough to chew. Even with scissors, it was difficult. This was the biggest disappointment of the night. Mushroom Ddukboki My wife ordered this, but I am not a fan of mushrooms, so I did not rate it. Guguma Mochi Cake (4/5) Like a light brownie with ice cream, but made with roasted sweet potato. Unique and enjoyable. Ambiance (4/5): The place feels eclectic and a little secretive in a fun way. The entrance has no window and only a Ring doorbell, which did not seem to work. We eventually pushed the door and it opened. Inside, it was warm and beautifully decorated. Service (4/5): Good, attentive, prompt, and patient throughout the meal. What disappointed me most was the main dish. I only ate about one third of it and took the rest home, but I still have not touched the leftovers. Everything else was solid, but for a special Valentine's dinner, the main course really needed to shine.

I was sitting here reminiscing on my trip to Han Oak last week and wishing I was eating it right now, so I figured it would be a good time to review this place! This spot had not made it on my to try list, but I'm glad we were invited by some friends to eat their prefix menu. We parked near where it said the location was, and had a semi tough time finding the front door! It's hidden in the parking lot. It made it a little more difficult, but it was also pretty cool! Disguised! The inside was interesting. I couldn't tell if we were outside or inside! The walls were plastic, but the space heaters kept it nice and warm. I liked the quiet and dark vibe in here. I guess the thing I liked most about the prefix menu is all the different flavors you got to sample. It's not like you had one starter and an entrée, it was a whole buffet of choices! I'd love to go here again during a different season and see what they have to offer!

What a creative hot pot experience!! Came for the prix fixe hot pot experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I'm always wary of paying for hotpot outside my home as I grew up eating it and it's SO EASY to DIY at home. Han Oak's hot pot experience offered fresh, local ingredients as well as their 15hr bone broth. The banchan were fresh and elevated - the smashed potato was my fav of the night. All the ingredients for the hot pot were traditional, vibrant and soul-nourishing. The broth was on the salty side for me, but was very flavorful. I really enjoyed all the vegetables that came with it - chrysanthemum, ota tofu, mushrooms, rice cake and noodles. It was the perfect meal for Portland weather. Service was fast and efficient, and the staff members were keen to explain the process and the dishes. I love Han Oak's innovative take on traditional meals and the variety of their prix fixe experiences. I had a lovely first time at Han Oak, and would definitely recommend!

I tried the galbi-jjim as part of their prix-fixe menu, and honestly, I'm a bit torn on how to rate it. Based on my experiences in K-town, I'd give it maybe a 3/5. The short ribs were just okay, they could've been cooked longer because they weren't as melt-in-your-mouth or fall-off-the-bone as I'm used to. The root veggies were fine, not overcooked, but nothing special. The rest of the jipbap sides didn't really stand out either. For $65, I feel like you could find better. Though, to be fair, I'm not sure where else you'd go for galbi-jjim in the middle of Portland.

Food was absolutely amazing. I can't believe how delicious the dry aged salmon was. I will definitely want to try this again. The ambiance was cozy and the service was good but has some room for improvement. Overall an excellent meal.

My bf and I both really enjoyed this spot. The vibe is intimate and Portland-y. Service was good. The food was delicious. There were so many sides, I couldn't finish all of mine. The galbi jjim was our favorite. The cod was good but not our favorite. The cabbage soup was so good too! The bonchon was definitely fancied up compared to the usual stuff you'd get from a traditional Korean restaurant. The dessert was just ok, I was hoping for the tiramisu. Overall a good experience! It's pricey so I would return for a special occasion but it won't be in our regular rotation

We went on a Saturday night to try their spring menu. Overall - Food was 5 stars, ambience was 3.5, Service was 4. We had a reservation and were quickly seated in a back corner next to the waitress stand/register in front of clear plastic which had a bunch of yard discards/ pile, which was a little weird. We quickly ordered wine and our entrees the first time the waitress came over since that took a bit. The spring menu was absolutely to die for... we ordered a bottle of wine which actually came after the first part of the meal being delivered, that's how meh our service was. My friend and I shared the two different Rib entrees and had no regrets. Everything was delicious... whatever is in those Carrots is epic. Only thing is, no one ever came back to refill our wine (we did it ourselves the entire meal), and while we were checked on, we didn't get water refills either. Was odd. Overall, I would come back, but for the price I expect better service than we got.

For years, Han Oak had been sitting in my bookmarks, and this time, when my husband chose it for his birthday dinner, I happily obliged being the epitome of a loving wife! Making a reservation was a breeze, and when we arrived, we were seated at the counter. I did regret not choosing the outdoor seating, as it was a beautiful day, but sitting at the counter turned out to be fun too. Watching the hustle and bustle of the kitchen and bar added a nice touch of energy to our evening. This was my first time having hot pot, and I think Han Oak has spoiled me for future ones. they've set the bar so high. Everything from the veggies to the meats was incredibly fresh, and the broth was packed with flavor. I loved the banchan and honestly, it might have been my favorite part of the meal. The cocktails were excellent, too. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and would be even more fun to do with a group of friends because it felt like too much food for two people.

The atmosphere of this place is top notch. We did the tasting menu and they did bring out a lot of food. I did enjoy making little sushi rolls. With the seaweed, rice, egg, salmon, cucumbers and beets that they bring out. Without concocting this yourself, the food separately was average by itself. I did enjoy the corn and meat entrees later too. The tiramisu I personally did not like. The jelly stuff in it ruined it for me.

Overhyped and not worth it. When I say I have been wanting to try this restaurant for years I am not kidding. When I had the opportunity to come back to Portland, I had to make it happen. Let's start with the positives. The atmosphere was great. I loved the organic look coupled with the industrial garage scene. It was fun and natural. The food itself was fresh. You can tell the team takes pride in high quality food. The service - hostess was great. She made the effort on the way out and in to stop and chat and get to know me and my party. That is it for positives. Let me be clear, the food was not bad. The problem is it is significantly overpriced for what you get. At 65$ a head for a pre fixed menu, this food better be great. There was not one thing on the menu that I thought "this is amazing, I need more". It all lacked complexity and was frankly boring. The galbi-jjim was basically pot roast style short rib. Simple and something I could make at home. The kimchi cured pork ribs were not tender. They were seasoned well but, not something I would say had a lot of flavor. The jipbab contained some good elements but no creativity and frankly I have had much better at similar or lesser price points. The tiramasu was the worst thing on the menu. First off, for my party of 3, we were given 2 pieces to share. I damn sure better get my own piece for 300+ dollars. The coffee jelly in it threw off the texture. Plus, there were chunks in the custard. All items on the menu were low cost and again, not worth the price point. I am not sure if my experience was simply based off of this seasons menu or if this is a consistent experience. Overall, if I were invited to go back, I would go and try again with a different menu. I desperately want to like Han Oak and I am hoping my experience was a one off though, I have a feeling this restaurant chef if getting too comfortable.

I don't like to do not positive reviews on local businesses, but I was genuinely disappointed in Han Oak. The hype, the raves from friends have been crazy for a long time and maybe I just had a little too high of expectations. Hot pot is always my thing, and this was just average. Broth (which is again, hyped up and this amazing hours or day long thing that I know they put in a lot of work for), tasted like not a whole lot. Maybe it's supposed to be lighter like Shabu shabu? The veggies are the highlight, bountiful and beautiful. Meats are okay, nothing special and fish is fresh, but didn't add a lot for me. The extra dumplings were okay. But with such high quality Korean dumplings everywhere, again wasn't a wow. The Banchan is distinct and different, but lacking in flavor. I will say that we did appreciate the massive refill on the kimchee. Service was mixed as well, most times, amazingly helpful and wonderful, and at others some miscommunication. A "glad we tried it" at $65 per person with adds, drinks and tip, it ended up about $360ish for 3 people. I think I need to go back when the menu changes. Keep up the great work, and sorry this was a miss for us.

Han Oak is now doing tableside hot pot! So fun! I went with two other people. Order the cocktail called Umami Mommie to start. The title says it all. Every single banchan item was spectacular! We ordered a second round even though we were so full. It was worth it. Tons of fresh and colorful veggies and a large meat tray came to the table. We ordered the seafood add on and I'm so glad. Delicious and so fresh. If you've never had hot pot before they will walk you through it. The restaurant is tucked back between two buildings but they have a sidewalk sign to guide you. We made reservations which was smart. It was busy on the week night we went.

Had a great time, ton of food! The menu is seasonal but my favorite dish was the beef rib. The cocktails were good too, and the restaurant has a cool indoor/outdoor vibe. Perfect place for a group of 4 so we could try everything. If I go again, I'll have to make sure I fast before lol. Good service!
