More of a revamped 70's salty vibe, which is what I prefer, to the too-sweet corporate chain recipes, with arguably too much belladonna. Chicken was tender. The meal was easily digested. This no frills restaurant saved the day on Lunar New Year! After having a terrible experience at The Imperial a few blocks down, our group of 12 was starving & looking for a place to eat. Someone in our group had eaten here many times in the past & recommended it, but said she wasn't sure if it would be able to accommodate us - she gave them a call, the owner said two families had just left, & we were seated within 15 minutes. Amazing! They have such an extensive menu - it's hard to believe that they can be good at all the different cuisines they have (Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai), but our group ordered an array & everyone was pleased with their food. Between my family, we ordered the pineapple cream cheese wontons, sesame tofu, stir-fried string beans, tofu pan-fried noodles, sesame chicken, & pineapple curry with chicken. All were delicious - loved the pineapple wontons as they were fried perfectly & not overly sweet, & the tofu had a delicious sauce. The noodles also had a good sauce. The string beans had more ingredients in them than I was expecting (onions, carrots) so they weren't my favorite dish we ordered, but they were still tasty. First red flag: I tried calling 7 times and there was no answer... I had to pull my ass up and trek it all the way down to this "bistro" to get some service, and on Christmas Day too, can you imagine. I think she intentionally disconnected the phone line for this to happen, but she didn't expect me to be so dedicated. I guess laziness can't escape some people. They also said they couldn't deliver to us, even though we lived within 10 miles of their uppity establishment, snobs! The place had nothing but a register and smelled too much like a urinal cake for it to be an "accident", and she refused to take my order, even though she clearly had nothing else to do! She eventually gave in, but boy oh boy, did she ever have an attitude. She gave us from "free soda", but then became a real B**** when my friend reached for a third, but I guess two was the limit? Are they free or not, lady? The night obviously ended on a horrible note when we got to the highlight of the meal, which were the fortunate cookies. They were ads for a real estate agency, which just screams tacky and cheap! This place can't even afford their own fortune cookies, what a joke! They also tasted like s*** What kind of Chinese cuisine is this? Let me tell you, clearly not a good one! Something has changed in the last couple years with this place. I used to order from them all the time and this time was my last time. The shrimp pad Thai tasted like dish soap and chemicals I had to toss it out... the beef skewers were dry and the Thai spring rolls were so bland. The crab cheese wontons were all I could eat but for a $70 meal to share with friends for half of which we threw away was not worth it. I have been ordering from here for years, and I have been so disappointed the last few times, I had to write a review. The prices have increased but I still ordered from here often. I realize the rest of this may sound petty to some...but when you order chinese food in and PAY EXTRA to get it delivered, you want it to be delivered to your door. I usually order out if I don't feel good, I don't want to put a bra on or have anyone in public see me, THUS I am ordering delivery for just that reason. If I felt presentable to the public I would go downstairs to my car and drive to pick up the food myself or go out to dinner! The last 4 times I have ordered delivery from here, the drivers have called me to come out and get my food because they are too lazy to park. My building has a parking spot specifically for delivery right next to the front door. They also have a big parking lot that always has empty spaces by the front door where you could easily pull in and put your hazards on. I literally just lose it when they complain about coming to up to my apartment door! I am paying a tip and delivery fee so I don't have to be seen or leave. I am willing to pay for my lazyness but I am not paying extra for yours! Get some delivery drivers that are willing to actually deliver! read more

I have to admit, I stumbled into Moon River after a Guinness (or ten) on St. Patty's day. Man, I will tell you I don't remember much about that night but I absolutely remember the delicious tastiness of Moon River. Now, keep in mind, this isn't just some delusional drunken memoir. This is the REAL DEAL! Literally. I had low expectations when I saw the claims of big portions that were tasty at a great price. I was convinced this place in Denver didn't exist after multiple failed journeys into the ultimate asian cuisine since moving here from Chicago. It lived up to it's raving claim to fame and then some! The eggrolls - perfectly crunchy and stuffed with yummy insides. The Orange chicken - perfect light breading dipped in authentic sweet orange sauce. Beef Pad Sew Ew - Hearty chunks of steaks with never ending noodles and that sweet savory sauce covering the heavenly broccolini. The food portions are deceiving big and filling. We had like a whole second meal on the way home because we couldn't wait to be hungry again to eat. The dining area is small but there's an awesome brewery next door (Baere Brewing) that you can take it to go and enjoy a pint with your meal. If you are considering trying this place - what are you still doing reading this? Go! Go! Go! You won't be disappointed. I've ordered delivery from Moon River a couple of times now when I've traveled to Denver. It's located downtown which is convenient for me due to where my travel takes me. The delivery has been consistent and timely, no issues there. Here are my thoughts on some of the dishes I've ordered: Pot Stickers: These appear to be hand made, with a bit denser wrapper and a bit of chew to the bite. The pork filling was flavorful and the included dipping sauce was pretty good. Salt & Pepper Wings: Good flavor, served over a bed of napa cabbage. Not overly seasoned but enough. Chicken Fried Rice: I always order my fried rice without peas and carrots (a sure sign of Americanized food) and then see what other vegetables might be present. This order had green onions and bean sprouts which is definitely my preference. Good flavor, plenty of white meat chicken included. WonTon Soup: Nice flavor to the broth, plenty of dumplings included. All in all I've very much enjoyed the food I've gotten at Moon River and will definitely order from them in the future. read more

Please...heed my warning and avoid this place. I ordered through GrubHub for delivery. The delivery guy must have been tossing my bag around like crazy, because there was a pool of sauce on the bottom of the bag. Open the bag and find put that all of the rice is a literal soup of sauces, I had sticky sauce all over me trying to get my order out of the bag. Thai Iced Coffee? Watered down black coffee with no condensed milk. /None/. Calamari? Well, I ordered this for the yummy sounding sauce that comes with it. I got no sauce and it was ice cold. The two chicken lunch specials were also ice cold, and the chicken was like chewing leather. And, again, the rice in both was so overwhelmed in spilled sauce. I called GrubHub and they got in touch with the restaurant who said they would resend the order. The same delivery guy gets here and barks at me, asking where the food is. I have never had a place actually want the bad food back, but I say fine and go get it. He takes it from me, puts it on the floor and starts -going through all of the containers. He tells me I ate some, so he won't give me the new food. He's pointing at the calamari, which I ate two small (awful) pieces of. He walks away with the new food and is calling the restaurant to tell them how I ate the food. This was more ludicrous than I can even put into proper words. After a few moments of blood boiling rage, I grabbed the old, awful food and told him to keep the other food. The guy was an amazingly rude piece of work. GrubHub couldn't refund me, because I paid in cash, but they threw some GH bucks my way, though I still lost money bothering to give this place a chance. The food was terrible, the order was wrong, the delivery guy is a sociopath, and if it's their policy to inspect returned food on the foyer floor of an apartment building, then the management is defective, too. Not many places deliver to my work, so I figured I'd go out on a limb and try something new. It started off great; easy online ordering, lots of choices (too many? Choosing is hard for those of us who have A.D...squirrel!), reasonable prices, and a fair delivery minimum amount ($10). The online ordering forms allowed for a few places to put "special instructions," which was EXTREMELY welcome, as I work in a side office with its own entrance and I wanted the delivery person to come directly to my door instead of too the main lobby. "It's the only west-facing door and the first one you see when you pull into the parking lot," I wrote twice, "and I will leave it wide open so you can easily find it." Roughly 40 minutes later I got a phone call from someone who seemed VERY mad at me. "You ordered food! Nobody says they ordered food! Where are you?" I walked outside to the front of the building to meet him as he simultaneously walked THROUGH the building to my office, so of course we missed each other, "Three's Company" style (he's Mr. Roper, I'm Janet or Jack... no, wait. He's Larry Dallas. Eff that guy). No big deal though, it took roughly 45 seconds from the phone call to the food handoff. However, to hear it from the guy you'd think he'd had to trek barefoot across the Sahara to reach me! I calmly told him that I'd written delivery instructions in TWO separate parts of the order form just to avoid this sort of confusion. At this, he basically threw the food at me and stormed off. And this after I'd tipped (extra!) in advance! So... yeah. All the other reviews that mention the rude AF delivery guy are 100% on point. Surly serviceman notwithstanding, the food was excellent. I ordered the Tofu Drunken Noodles with the Sesame Balls appetizer and they arrived steaming hot (he may be a jerk, but at least he's a speedy jerk) and clearly freshly made. The noodles were just the right mix of savory and spicy, with just a touch of char from the pan-frying. The tofu was crispy on the outside as it should be, the fresh basil was plentiful, and everything was a perfect balance of oily and saucy. I realize that Sesame Balls aren't for everyone and I harbor no misconceptions that almost all of them start out frozen/packaged/pre-made, but these were heated up so well that they tasted ALMOST fresh. My three stars are awarded thusly: five for the food, minus two for the mean delivery guy. Some people just shouldn't work in service. read more

I'm basing my review on delivery. This is about the FOOD and nothing else like many of the reviews that have been negative. I ordered Vegetable Egg Foo Yung which was AMAZING! If you have not tried egg foo yung, it is basically a Chinese omelet that is fried and then covered in a rich gravy with a protein of your choice. I always order the gravy on the side because it can slosh out of the container and into your bag. I have to give HUGE props to the spicy edamame. They char it on a grill so it has a delicious smoky taste. I've never had anything like it. We also got the Mongolian Beef, which my friend said was delicious. Our food was delivered fast and hot. Moon River is a gem nestled in a strip mall on Broadway. Yes, we may have been the only ones in the restaurant. Yes, we ordered pounds of food only to be hungry two hours later. Yes, we were there for the $1 beers. What else can I say? After crushing 14 beers, brought out to us in 6 packs (thank you), 2 soups, an appetizer platter and 3 entrees, our bill came out to a grand total of $62.57. In this economy, you can't beat that.
