Awesome hole-in-the-wall mom-n-pop gem of a restaurant! I wanted to come in because this place is one of the few Thai restaurants that offer Khao Soi (a special curry noodle dish that feels like home for me). The Khao Soi was delicious and so filling! The curry broth is sweet and savory, and the chicken is tender and falls right off the bone. Started visiting 9Thai via recommendation from a friend and raving reviews on how good the Khao Soi is. Let me tell you, we've tried it at many of the best Thai restaurants in Denver and this seems to be the best! We've never eaten in, but ordering takeout is a breeze and the food is always ready upon arrival. The staff is always friendly and the restaurant is usually medium busy. It's a cute little place on Colfax, not a ton of space to park but usually easy to grab quick street parking. The Khao Soi is fantastic - the fried chicken version is delicious and if you ask they will allow you to get a Tofu version as well. We've also tried the Pad Thai which was a bi disappointing, but the curries are where they really stand out. We drive nearly 40 minutes just for the Khao Soi! Well worth the visit. read more

The dining experience is no frills. The front and back staff are thai, and the focus is essentially the food rather than bar/ drinks. We have both dined in and taken out/ delivery over 10 times and it has been consistently delicious every time. Their Khao Soi is bursting with flavor and one of the best I've ever had, topped with crispy chicken. Kua Kai is a noodle similar to drunken noodles but less sauced and more delicious if that's even possible. The host/server is from Thailand, and there is a large screen television on the back wall showing travel and food in Thailand (similar to the Travel Channel, but produced by a Thai blogger). I am not sure what is going on here. The first time we went it was delicious. We have been 3 additional times with it getting worse every time. Makes me sad. It was disappointing that the boat noodle was made from powder mix. $20 for powder mix and water. I was expecting authentic boat noodle. Cute and clean little spot on Colfax with amazing food but a wee bit disappointed they didn't have any alcohol even though it's on the menu. Drunken noodles (3/5) - honestly for Denver this might be a 4/5, but comparing it to other drunken noodles I've had I would say that they taste good for what they are, but they are the incorrect flavor for drunken noodles. They're overly sweet and lack the umami and wok hei flavor for pad kee Mao. I also ordered it hot, and it was not spicy compared to Thai hot. I feel like what I got for hot is a mild or medium level spice. I got it with tofu and typically it's with the deep fried tofu, this tasted more like normal tofu pan fried. They were generous with the tofu pieces which I appreciated. Portions are good and prices are good! Noodles were a good consistency and although it was not a traditional drunken noodle flavor, the flavors were well developed. Tried out this Thai place for takeout on a lazy Sunday and enjoyed the food! We got the street pad Thai, crab cheese wontons, and khao soi which I'd never had before. My wife and I have really limited diets, for health reasons. We regularly order Pad Thai and Tomka at 9Thai without ever an issue. It is always really good and we both have leftovers the next day. I ordered to-go from this place. Even though it's on a busy street - I was able to pull up pretty close and park along the street. I walked in and also got a soda from the cooler fridge behind the counter. The place is pretty small so I imagine they mostly do takeout. I ordered the Pad Thai (just plain) and was asked about heat level. My fiancé said he told them "low." He got the Basil Fried rice with the highest heat level. The food was ready when they told us (15 minutes). They guy who helped me was very nice and talkative. He let me know I was the first customer of the day. We got a ton of food for the one dish. My fiancé really enjoyed his fried rice - he at the whole thing. My pad thai was just okay. It was a little more dry than expected and it was way more spicier than expected. I can handle spice but I don't like when it turns my mouth numb and the taste takes over everything else. I've ordered for pickup twice and dined in twice, trying different dishes. The food is just "fine", never actually bad, but they seem to lack focus in terms follow through on the little things. Examples: once I asked that my pad thai not be soooo sweet. No adjustment was made. Spice level never seems to be addressed. Today I asked for medium, when I got the food home it was spiceless. Also, no slice of lime to add some acidity to the noodles. Last order was similarly not spicy at all. Today I got pad woon sen. Noodle to veg&tofu ratio was not so good - though I guess the noodles are technically made from beans, so there's that. Still, I'd like a bit more veg and a bit less noodles than what I got. Sauce was very plain, I didn't really taste or smell any fish sauce. Portion was overall generous but we're now paying $15 for a single serving take out order from most places, and due to that I'd like them to take some more care getting things right. read more

I had bad experiences with this place 2 years ago. I did not write the review and decided to just avoid it. Until today. My husband ordered because it was close and didn't want to go too far away. We had the Panang chicken, fried tofu, and cream cheese pockets. All horrible. Watery tasteless curry, light on vegetables and protein, refried, tasteless tofu/dipping sauce, cream cheeseless pockets. Barely edible. Did I mention the brown rice out of a microwave bag? Ugh. What a waste of money. If you like this place, to each his own. But if your money is dear and you like Thai food, there are many other good options; I would suggest you try elsewhere. read more

Rude + Dishonest = This place is dead to me. I've been giving this place consistent business since late 2019 when I discovered it down the street from my place. In my opinion, it's usually really good but sometimes is a bit of a miss (more lately than before). One thing that has always been on point, especially to go, is the Thai iced tea. It's like 32 ounces and always really good. (Edit: you can literally look at a picture on here where someone mentions they have the biggest Thai tea ever.) Until today. I wanted one so I drove the whole two minutes down the street to order a drink, paying my $5.40 for the Thai tea (plus tip, of course) only to have the lady come out with a 16-ounce cup of tea. Let's take things one step further. Upon inquiring, I was met with a firm declaration that that was the only size they had, and that they always had. Lies. I stated that it was simply untrue, and that it was at least 1.5, if not 2x the size usually. She firmly told me they only had one size, and that that was the size. She then budged slightly, telling me it used to be 20 ounces instead of 16. Double lies. 20 ounces is your standard large size from a boba shop. Theirs used to be SIGNIFICANTLY larger, and it was really good. That's why I'd come here, after all. I asked for a refund because I'm not paying six dollars for 16 ounces of Thai tea, and she gave it back to me. She still has my tip money, and that's okay. The rude stare she gave me as she slammed the refund receipt down onto the bar was the icing on the cake to ensure they never get a single cent of my money ever again. I work way too hard to earn it and create value in the world to spend it at a place that lies to its customers and treats them rudely. It appears COVID hit their business, but to be dishonest AND rude about it? You could have apologized about the size and maybe even offered the truth, that you needed to reduce your size for the sake of staying in business? People understand in this world if you can connect and be honest with them. But if you are rude and lie about it, I don't care how good your food is. And the food isn't as good as it used to be, anyways. This place doesn't deserve my business so I'm not going to give it to them. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile. It is only a small 7-8 table restaurant. It was clean. When we went in the cashier/waitress was sitting in her stand. She told us to sit wherever we wanted. We were the only people there. We were brought small cups of water and a bottle of water. The menu is a QR code. The server took our order of fried rice and pad Thai. Brought it out and we never saw her again. I had to go up and get the check. Which I did not even get an itemized bill. She only ran my card. This place is legit Thai food. It's always hard to find good Thai food. Especially in Denver, my friend had recommended this place. So I had to come check it out. I saw Khao Soy noodles on the menu and was immediately sold. I originally came because I heard they have boat noodles. And I haven't had boat noodles since my trip to Thailand last summer. My mom used to make this dish all the time. But she's been too busy lately or makes it when we request it. So I can fulfill a craving if my mom's too busy to make it. First--their spice level is Thai level spicy. Even the medium is super spicy. I should have gotten mild but it's been hit or miss at Thai restaurants in Colorado. So I didn't want to be disappointed by the spice level. But definitely know next time to get mild. Y'all, that khao soy is fire! Definitely one of my favorites. I will be back for the khao soy. Like I said, I got medium and it was a little spicy for me but I still loved it. Don't get me wrong. With each bite, I couldn't stop. I wanted more even if my mouth was burning. My mentee, who is from Thailand, brought me here for lunch because she loves one particular menu item: the chicken noodle soup. She said it really brought her back to her childhood. After giving it a try, I was excited to write about it on here. Except I can't quite find the right words to describe it. Might be something among the lines of, "Yeah, I felt that." This place is quite the hidden gem. On the outside, you might find it a little dusty and hard to find. Once you come inside, there's a cute hipster vibe that doesn't really do its authenticity justice. But once you taste the chicken noodle soup on a cold winter day, life is just beautiful. Worthy to note is also the Thai tea boba here. The glasses must have been the size of my face, if only my face were a little taller. Although the boba could have been a little softer, I was very impressed with its presentation. Clearly we couldn't finish our glasses after devouring the large bowls of soup, so they gave us to-go cups. We ordered the edamame and fried tofu for starters. Both are good, but nothing special. Then we ordered chicken pad see ew, beef fried rice, and chicken Panang Curry. We ordered all three mild, but it was still a little spicier than what I thought. My favorite was a pad see ew, which had wide pan noodles but thinly sliced which I liked. The flavors were good. Would have given it a five if it had some dried shrimp and the cabbage should have been shredded. Not sure why there were big chunks of cabbage over the papaya salad - the container was too small to try and mix in the cabbage. Pad Thai:3 stars. There was no chili next to the pad Thai on the menu so I assumed it would not be spicy. However it was pretty spicy for some of the people in my group so that ruined it. They should put the chili next to it on the menu to show that it will be spicy. Shrimp and large and tasted good. Panama curry: 3 stars. Seafood were fine but the curry was so watered down like a soup. Not sure if it's just me but I'm used to the curry being a little thicker- more like a sauce vs soupy. Because it was watered down didn't seem to have much flavors. Tom Kha chicken soup: 3 stars. broth had good flavors - creamy and tangy coconut flavors. I didn't care too much for the chunks of tomatoes. Nothing made it standout much. Garlic tofu: 4 my favorite dish of the meal. Savory fried tofu. Tasted great albeit had a bit of heat.
