Really hard to choose with so much food--there was a lot, and I didn't even know what to focus on first! The service was quick, and everyone was very attentive. We chose to sit in the bar area, and we weren't disappointed. I enjoyed everything. The broth was delicious, and my husband and I loved the selection of dumplings, noodles, and all the different items you can add to your broth. The meat was great too--thinly sliced and ready to cook in no time. I also learned something new! I had no idea there was a little train that brings your sushi roll to the table. I didn't know how to send it back either until someone kindly showed us. And I definitely wasn't expecting the train to talk to us when the roll arrived--such a funny surprise! The sushi selection was very good as well. There are lots of options on the conveyor belt and several rolls to choose from. Honestly, it's hard to prioritize when everything looks so tasty. I had higher expectations about this place as there are places in other states and was disappointed. I'm not sure if this is just this location but the set up was interesting. There is a sauce bar and topping bar (veggies, noodles, apps) that lacked a lot of typical dishes a normal hot pot of kbbq has - it was very underwhelming. The sushi was okay - don't expect great quality and had a lot of rice in them. The meats for the hot pot were very thin and were okay. This is the first time I am so disappointed with the chubby cattle chain. This is also the smallest location I have visited. I had such a bad experience that I told everyone not to go to this location. That's the short version. Here is the long version. We pick the $55 wagyu bbq "AYCE". Our first plate of food arrived approximately 15minutes after we were seated. The rule is, you can only order 1 choice of beef, one choice of sushi (2pc), one choice of sushi roll per person each time. It was suppose to include the revolving sushi bar. Surprise! the revolving sushi belt was EMPTY! It remained empty during the time we were there. I think there were maybe 9 different cuts of beef on the menu, but it's for looks only. I can only order 1cut at a time. I asked if I can order one additional meat for my hot pot. The answer is no. Only 1 meat per round. When the beef came, it was 3 SLICES of PAPER THIN BEEF. I have to decide to grill it or put it on my hot pot. I can't really do both. The wagyu beef instantly evaporated once it hit the grill. I quickly scooped up what was left and ate it in one bite. The sushi was below average. The raw fish was dry, picked up the fish, it maintained the curved shape it was resting on the rice, in mid air. The hot pot items were pretty disappointing. All the sauces were in a squeeze bottles. So no chopped garlic, no cilantro, missing many condiments I expected from hot pot. A couple types of vegetables, udon, noodles, frozen shrimp, frozen siu mai, corn, daikon are some of the item I remembered. There was maybe total 9-12 selection for hot pot stored in half side of a refrigerator. I placed the empty meat containers at the edge of the table. I wanted to show the waiter I am ready for round 2. Well the next round was 20minutes later. So we ordered round 2, and placed our limited choice order for each category. Again I inhaled the next 3 SLICES OF PAPER THIN BEEF and pushed my empty container to the edge of the table. Ready for the next round! So the waiter finally came around to take my next order. This is what he said. "Last call, your 90 minutes is coming up." I was so angry at this point. I flat out told him. "You only served us 3 round of PAPER THIN BEEF." I think he stared at me at this point as if I already ate too much. I told my party this is our last chance to order more food because it the "last call". We were still hungry. The waiter flinched and said "We charge extra if you don't finish your food". I was boiling inside at this point. So needless to say there was no left over food. Here comes my bill. He charged me $20% ($91) for gratuity. We had Two bottle of beer, cost $30 total. My grand total came out to be about $550 for party of seven. I think the Burger King whopper I ate for lunch was more filling than what I just ate. This is the time I would say to a restaurant not offer "AYCE" if the strategy is to limit the customer to order every step of the way. Ordering frequency is controlled by the waiter. Limiting 1choice of every category is insane when the serving is so small. Plus not refilling the revolving sushi belt is a crime. Everything sounds good on the menu, but why do I feel so ripped off when I pay? Feels like I just got scammed. Every where I look "it limited" not AYCE. So was there a difference to paying more for the Wagyu bbq plan? So if I grill the meat, then there is no meat left to put in the hot pot? So did I just paid extra $15/person ($15x7=$105) to add a portable grill on the table to grill meat that was supposed to be for my hot pot? I had a meatless hot pot my entire meal. This was meant to treat my friend for his birthday. I paid the entire bill and apologized to my friends for making a mistake to dine here. We had below average food and awful experience. Overall, this place need to improve the quality of fish and hot pot ingredients. Definitely consider giving more than one choice per category so customers have food to eat, especially when there is no food on the revolving sushi belt. Or fill the revolving sushi belt with food to fulfill your obligation, stated as part of the meal. Your waiter was slammed working multiple tables so there were lots of dead time for diners that was counted against them. Hire one more chef? Might help put food on the revolving sushi belt? Overall the food was a solid choice for a casual night out with a friend. I liked that Chubby had a lot of selection to choose from for a hot pot. The ambiance at this place felt very authentic with the Japanese decor. My sushi that I got which was eel was very good. However, I thought that the service here was not as good. This spot has been on my list to try forever now, so when the opportunity to dine here before the Botanic Garden lights - my friend and I made our way over! SPACE: Located on the corner of S Broadway and Ellsworth, the shop is easy to spot, offers nothing but street parking and is pretty small inside. However, they utilize their space well. We were seated near the front window, which was perfect for us, to dine and soak in the whole place. SERVICE: We were greeted by a friendly woman as soon as I walked in. I explained this was our first time here, so she could give us the how to's of ordering and the process. She sent the server over to explain that to us - which was quick and to the point. Pick your poison - All you can eat bbq grill or hot pot - and sushi. Head to the station in the middle of the restaurant for your soup fixin's and BOOM. Easy peasy! Service is a-okay, but the initial server/host seemed annoyed by everyone. she was on her phone alot and rolled her eyes a few times. awkward! SIPS: We sipped on water, but the menu offers a variety of cocktails, beers and NA creations. Def worth a look! SUSETENANCE: YUM!! I had never done hot pot before and opted for the spicy tonkatsu broth - which was SPICY. woah - but so delicious! I added in some ramen noodles, bok choy, shrimp, shrimp shumai, and other yummy ingredients from the hot pot station and enjoyed adding to it as necessary. My friend seemed happy with his creation as well. We also chose two different sushi rolls each time to experience more flavor and loved all we chose. We called to make a reservation but they said we'll be added to the wait list. This location is outside of downtown so we had to drive around couple blocks for street parking. Small restaurant with a conveyer belt in the middle. The wait for a table was over an hour, we had 5 people in our party and they wanted to sit us at a big table. At one point I didn't mind if my party was broken up and put us at the conveyor belt. We finally sat down and did the most. Since it was all you can eat, we had hot pot and sushi. One of my favorite places when I'm craving both sushi and hot pot. Staff has often taken some time to seat me here however - and I've had to leave because they close so early. But this is a lovely date night spot and is very satisfying when it's cold outside. Located right on Broadway so we always do some thrifting or walking before eating. I've been looking forward to trying this spot for years as I've never had hot pot or conveyer style sushi. While the staff was very friendly and helpful when informing me about the process, the food itself left a lot to be desired. Two of my friends came to visit from Hawaii and Maine; needless to say, they expected sushi with a bit more flavor, meat (rather than 80% white rice - not necessarily sushi grade), and variety. The hot pot was okay - by the time I tasted the dumplings, lettuce, and noodles I put in there, the flavor was boiled down quite significantly. The sushi was lackluster - I didn't really get a feel for the taste profile aside from trying my friend's eggplant Parmesan (which is a very interesting take for sushi!). Incredible experience. Came in around 3pm on a Saturday. Added ourselves to the waitlist online via Yelp and it was perfect timing because when we arrived we were next. Got sat at the bar - the perfect spot for the conveyor belt sushi. There are 2 options (the $40 AYCE tier and the $50 AYCE tier) - the more expensive option comes with a yakiniku grill and AYCE wagyu. This is totally worth it. Everything was so fresh and such high quality for an all you can eat, the seared salmon nigiri was incredible. The quality of the sashimi alone made this worth it, much less with all the other options. And the conveyor belt sent out a good variation of tasty dishes to supplement. Of everything, The tuna wasn't the absolute best quality, at least on the day we went, it was a little dry, but everything altogether was an insane meal for an insane deal. When we got there it said there was a 1 hr wait, the workers quickly went over the list and called to confirm who was still waiting. They were able to get us seated within 10 minutes. The service was quick when we first got seated but between the first and second round it took a while for them to come by and check on us, but after that they came by pretty often. The place isn't too big but it and like they filled it out pretty well to maximize the amount of people they can fit. It is good for families or go people that don't mind a loud atmosphere. I like that they have hot pot, yakiniku which is like kbbq, AND sushi plus a consist belt sushi. The food was pretty good, the beef was buttery and tasty and the sashimi was really fresh. This place was way better than I expected and at a very reasonable price point considering what you get. To start, depending on the time of day and what day it is, you choose your menu. Everyone must order the same thing at the table. The difference is, if you go for lunch M-T it is $10 cheaper but you do not get the Nigiri. This place has everything - a sushi conveyor belt, hot pot, sushi train and KBBQ. I went with the hot pot which also included the sushi. Pro tip - the stuff on the sushi belt is not always great looking so you can order the rolls and Nigiri directly from the server. Prior reviews said that the sushi was not good but I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness and taste of the Yellowtail and salmon. In my opinion, better than the hotpot and I wish I had ordered more. I did the Tom Yum for the hotpot. I followed the advice of other posters and took out the lime pieces so as to not make the soup bitter. The meat selection was OK and not necessarily prime. The veggies and greens were serve-yourself from the fridge. The ambiance was more of a college hangout place and was fine. Didn't get to try the popular Chubby Cattle in Vegas due to it's insane wait times, so I made the push to try this location in Denver before I left. After arriving too late one night, and a water leak the next day, we finally got seats with the 3RD attempt. The wait is almost as ridiculous. Signing up for the waitlist at 7pm on a Friday night meant almost a 2 hour wait. If you think hotpot and bbq at the same time is overwhelming... try adding a conveyor belt sushi on top of that! Despite having so much going on, there were quite a few items under their selections for each cooking style. The nigiri's I ordered were solid quality, though they only had the most basic fish. The Sweet Shrimp was probably the best item on the sushi menu, which they were sold out of, of course. The veggie selection for the hotpot were spread between two medium sized shelves, and had the most basic napa cabbage, tofu, fishcake, fishballs, noodles, etc. The hotpot meats were very standard as well, quality didn't really stand out. We did have a small complaint about how the Tom Yum broth flavor was a bit salty. And now to knock off an entire star was the BLANKET of seasoning they add on top of the Wagyu meats we ordered for the bbq portion. I am not exaggerating when I say EACH thinly sliced piece of meat had enough salt and pepper on it to season an ENTIRE 10 oz steak. And even when I tried scraping most of it off, AND rinsing it in my hotpot broth, the salty taste was pretty distinct. What is with Denver and it's overly season food??? Would've been nice for the waiter to give us a warning when we placed our order. The topic for the rest of our meal was whether the cold weather permanently dulls the locals' tastebuds because we've had this issue with several other Denver restaurants. To celebrate my 30th birthday, my wife curated a weekend full of experiences for us, including tasting a few restaurants around Colorado we had not yet tried.   Our first stop for the weekend was Chubby Cattle. Chubby Cattle is a smaller restaurant, jam packed with a bunch of flavor and amazing staff. We were able to sit directly in front of the conveyor belt sushi, after joining the wait on Yelp (waited about an hour for a seat, which is not too bad on a Friday night) and it was such a cool experience. We went with the Regular Dining option which included all Nigris and Sushi Rolls, the Conveyor Belt sushi self-serve and HotPot all you can eat.     If you've stumbled upon any of my other reviews, you know that we have been in search of a Ramen broth that competes with our favorite in St. Louis, Nudo House. We finally found it.   I ordered the Spicy Miso and my wife got the Spicy Tonkotsu. We selected Beef Brisket and Pork Belly as our meat and then at the self-serve station picked up Udon Noodles, Imitation Crab, Shrimp, Bok Choy, and our array of sauces.   Spicy Tuna Roll 10/10   A classic of mine. It is my go to anywhere I decide to grab sushi from and this one was fresh and delicious. It also came on a little boat at the top, and I just thought that was the coolest thing!   All other Sushi 10/10   Because we tried the Conveyor Belt Sushi, I can't tell you the name of these rolls as they were not listed, but I will tell you that every single thing we ate was delicious. For someone like me who is a little finicky about my sushi flavors, this is the perfect set up because you get to experience a roll, without having to order the entire thing. The only downside to that, is if you like it, grab more than one plate because there is no guarantee it is coming back!   Spicy Miso Base 10/10   The flavor on this was absolutely everything I had been looking for. I wish I had known that in advance, because there honestly wasn't any additional sauce needed. Every single thing that we cooked in it absorbed the flavor and it had such rich and distinct flavors to it.     Spicy Tonkotsu 10/10   This is what my wife ordered, I only had a few sips and ate some of the food that was put in it, but we both agree it was delicious. It is not unnecessarily spicy and really paired well with the Udon noodles. While the restaurant is a smaller space, the team works so efficiently to ensure they are grabbing any empty plates, refilling drinks and making sure you have everything you need. Overall, we had an amazing experience here and I cannot wait to return, I am thinking about convincing my wife to go back today! read more

We had a party of 13 people and they were able to accommodate us with a reservation around 7:30pm. I tried all chubby cattle in CA and I'm so glad I got to try one here. We got the wagyu menu set which is around $50 before tax and tips. Compared to CA, I would say that is a very reasonable and fair price. We got all the sashimi, nigiri, sushi, hot pot and bbq we want. It was very good and delicious. I particularly ordered the sukiyaki broth for my hot pot. We did not sit at the bar but I love the idea of the conveyor belt. It was really cool to see. The server was amazing and more than nice to us. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT BAD SERVICE AND SHIT FOOD We went to Chubby Cattle Hot Pot and Sushi in Denver on New Year's Day about an hour before closing. We got in around 2:10 and the restaurant was not busy at all. There were only about four tables with people in them. Even with that, we were not seated until around 2:20. Then nobody came to take our order until about 2:25. With last call being 2:30, that already set the tone. We were ready to order fast and be respectful, but we were basically left hanging. The problem was one male server who completely ruined the entire experience. From the moment we walked in, he acted like our presence was an inconvenience. He had glasses and slicked back hair and wore the most miserable attitude I have ever seen in a restaurant. No greeting, no warmth, no basic hospitality. Just a sour, grumpy vibe the entire time. When he finally came over, he asked if we had been there before and when we said no, he decided to waste time explaining the dinner menu like we were on some guided tour. We were there during lunch hours and the lunch menu was simple. Instead of helping us order quickly before last call, he dragged it out, then got irritated when I asked if we were still good to order lunch. He snapped back and acted like we were the problem for asking a normal question. He tells us last call is 2:30. We were seated at 2:20 and didn't even get a chance to order until 2:25 because of the delays. So we asked to order right away so we would not miss last call. This should have been the easiest moment of the whole meal. Instead he turned it into a tense, hostile interaction where he looked annoyed and made it feel like we were doing something wrong just by wanting to eat. Then he messed up the order, and even after we corrected it, it took forever to fix. On top of that, basic service was a joke. We had to ask multiple times for straws and soda. Not once. Not twice. Multiple times. Meanwhile he was lounging around by the kitchen like he had all the time in the world. Again, the restaurant was not busy and only had about four occupied tables. There is absolutely no excuse for ignoring tables and acting irritated when people ask for the bare minimum. The table next to us was clearly having the same experience. You could tell he was spreading that same nasty attitude to everyone around us. This was not a misunderstanding. This was a grown man choosing to be rude, lazy, and unprofessional to paying customers. That man brings shame to Chubby Cattle as a whole. He is the face customers see, and he made the entire restaurant feel unwelcoming, careless, and poorly managed. If this is the standard they allow on the floor, then management is failing. He should not be working in hospitality at all, because he clearly does not have the temperament or professionalism to deal with people. The only reason the experience was not a complete disaster was the female server who stepped in. She was genuinely kind, calm, and professional, and you could tell she was trying to save the situation while dealing with the same mess. She deserves real recognition because she was the only person who made us feel even remotely welcome. She did more for our table in a short amount of time than he did the entire visit. If Chubby Cattle wants to keep customers, they need more people like her and far less people like him. Food wise, the sushi rolls were disappointing. Way too much rice and barely any filling. And some of the vegetables looked questionable, including pieces that appeared moldy, which is disgusting and unacceptable. We all work in restaurants and hospitality. We know what a hard shift looks like. We know what being slammed looks like. This was not that. I have lived mere blocks from this place for over four years and finally tried it out while I had a friend in town. Now I am regretting that I haven't been here sooner because I'm moving!! For $39.99, you can eat as your heart desires as much hot pot and sushi as you want. We were here for dinner and I think the lunch option is a little less. I was filled to the brim. I was so happy! I thought their hotpot self serve bar had great options, and all their sauces were yummy. Service was good, I have no complaints! This place is super cool. Tightly configured bar seating around a conveyor sushi belt with larger tables for reservations (5+ only!) with hot pot and grills. We did the wagyu beef AYCE and enjoyed the brisket & short rib cuts the best! The tom yum broth option was a favorite among our group. They have a large assortment of additional veggies, noodles and sauces which makes it a very "build your own" friendly style for all sorts of eaters. I'd skip the nigiri personally and go straight for the hot pot & bbq but the conveyer belt rolls were alright. Small plates like octopus salad, seaweed salad, small desserts, sui mai, dumplings, edamame and simple sushi rolls passed by and all were pretty good given the AYCE pricing. Again would really just focus on the wagyu and hot pot personally but fun options to mix it up! Ambiance was fun and energetic we had an okay experience with service not great not terrible. I'm giving this place 2 stars because the value is decent for the amount of food that you get, BUT the food just isn't very good. I ordered the Tonkatsu broth, and it was bland. No flavor at all. My son's Spicy Miso was also, ironically, not very tasty. The sushi was ok, again not flavorful or fresh tasting. On top of all this, the staff was not friendly, almost unfriendly. First, they wouldn't seat us until our entire party was there, even when we were waiting for one person. We had a reservation, and they were holding the table for us, but we had to wait by the bathrooms until the fifth person showed up. For this type of place, that is kind of absurd. In addition, the guy seating us (I don't know if he was the owner) barely said more than two words to us. He just perfunctorily said we have to wait. When we did sit, exchanges were terse almost curt. They brought the food out reasonably quickly, but basically tossed it on the table. It would have been nice to know which of the five little trays stacked up was what meat and which sushi rolls were which one we ordered. The salt in the wound was the check included a 20% SERVICE FEE. Of course, there was no mention of this when the check was brought to us. The check also included a space for an ADDITIONAL tip with suggestions starting at 20%...Bwa ha ha ha. I almost thought it was a joke. Once is enough for the experience of going, but there are far better hot pot places, and far better sushi places in town. read more
