This is my first time coming to Yelp to review a business. I went to Moon Spa because I live nearby. I called and asked if I could come in for a powder gel manicure and explained I already had gel on so I'd need to soak off. When I got there, no one was wearing gloves which was slightly off putting. As the lady used the drill on my nails to remove the gel, she kept catching my skin to the point where it was bleeding. She put on acetone on cotton balls under tinfoil to remove the gel and then proceeded to put a stained warm towel over my hands. Then things took a true turn. Her removal of the gel from my nails was BEYOND painful. She took the tinfoil off way too early and was filing the gel down with a nail file then using a tool to literally try and scrap the gel off of my nails. It was hurting and my nails were literally breaking in half. At this point I told the lady I just wanted her to finish removing the polish and then I had to go. I left with half of the gel still on and also to discover I have "greenies" due to lifting of my nails from the previous salon I went to. It is days later and my nails are still sore and recovering from the improper job she did attempting to remove the gel. I will NEVER go back to this salon. read more

I ended up expressing that I wouldn't and couldn't leave with this as a paid service and she removed the gel half way. I have to get this fixed now. read more

Not sure why this place has bad reviews, but I went today and was very happy with my nails! I went in around 3 pm on a Monday and it was just me. The woman did a great and thorough job with my pedi and mani (which came out to $28). She cleaned them well and took her time. I would definitely come back again, especially since it's the right price. The salon was clean and organized. read more

Came here on a weekend morning for a massage and I wanted to get a 60 minute one but I had to end mine early because it was just so bad First of all, they don't even really have a massage room.. it's the waxing table and they don't even take off the loud noisy paper so it rustles every small movement. Second of all, the bathroom is connected to this room, so if any other clients or workers need to use the loo, they have to interrupt your session, walk through the room, and use it. And then interrupt again on the way out. The massage itself was ok but since the bed is against the wall.... she only massaged one side of my body very well and the other side very poorly. Moon Spa is where I go when I want a cheap regular mani and don't care too much about the quality. I would say they do a mediocre job at best. Nails are shaped a little uneven, cuticles are also uneven and not trimmed very well and the polish is always a little sloppy. I went today with this expectation but found they raised their prices to just about $1 less than other neighborhood places. Definitely rather pay the extra buck at a cleaner place that does a much better job. This will be my last mani there. read more

There were 4 ladies working here around 4:30pm on a weekday -- it got super crowded and busy so I had to wait about 45 minutes... But they were very nice and my nails came out pretty good. Based off the many great reviews, I decided to give this place a try. Unfortunately I had a very different experience. I found the place to be dirty, from the stains and holes on the towels to the bottom of the foot baths, it just seemed a bit uncleanly. There were also multiple toenails all over the floor. The woman who did my nails was fairly young and frankly had no idea what she was doing. She kept looking over to the other technicians and up at me for some sense of approval. The cutting and filing was terrible as was the awkwardness surrounding the entire appointment. She did know how to polish which was her only saving grace. Afterwards, she gave a back massage while drying that was more painful than relaxing. It seemed like the other technicians knew what they were doing, but the uncleanliness and no a/c ensured that I will not return. read more

This has been my go-to place in the neighborhood and I would have filled my member card today (10 visits, the next one free) if the manicurist hadn't been dishonest and deny me my last stamp because one of the stamp looked faded... It had always been kind of a gamble to go to this place. My mom got the sloppiest manicure and my husband a very painful pedicure, but somehow, I was always satisfied with my manicures. The complimentary 5 min massage used to be great (they would go under your shirt with hot stones) but now, it's merely a pat in the back! Also, they promote their $25 mani/pedi deal but at $9 the regular manicure and $15 for a pedicure, they actually make an extra dollar every time you choose the combo! Pretty standard mani/pedi place. When I get my pedicures here, they usually last approximately 3 weeks (which is great!). Price is reasonable ($25 for mani/pedi, $18 for pedicaure, $30 for gel manicure). Staff is really sweet. They finish your service with a back massage, as you're drying your fingers/toes. Also, they give you a "rewards card", in which they stamp every time you receive a service. After the 10th stamp, you receive a free manicure. read more

I walked in on a Monday afternoon at 3:40 for a gel manicure. I did not have an appointment, so I waited 20 minutes (fine). My issue was with the service. While the technician was filing my nails, she kept scratching me on accident. I told her multiple times and pulled away, but I don't think she fully realized what the issue was. Her nails were way too long for a technician. My next issue was with the timing. I planned on being at the salon for an hour, max. But I didn't walk out until 5:20! That's 20 minutes of wait time and 80 minutes for the actual manicure. Two stars because the gel has lasted well over a week and still looks good. If the service improves, I will return but for now I'll walk a few extra blocks to go elsewhere. read more

I would give this 0 and 5 stars if that makes sense. I went to the smaller location at 9:30am and the woman doing my nails kept telling me I was crazy and that she would call the police. I had already paid even though she had not started the manicure so I went next door to the larger nail salon to wait. The woman did a wonderful job along with a lovely massage and said the other woman doesn't understand English. a language barrier should not excuse someone from calling anyone crazy and threatening police. This was my go-to spot uptown. On the last few occasions I had extremely sloppy work done. I tried very hard to brush it off as one-off experiences but honestly it's just sloppy work. Always polish all over my skin. It's very hit or miss by who works on you. I am perfectly capable of doing my own nails and when I come to the salon I want to know it's someone who's actually better than me doing my nails. I'm going to highly consider finding a new location. I do not like taking a gamble when I come in and spend money on services. read more

Crazy enough to have given them 4 chances to get it right.. one nail tech I got twice is too busy talking and looking at the time while huffing & puffing so she gets polish all over your cuticles & I had to nicely point out the mess for her to clean. She also did a terrible hack job removing my dip powder mani from another salon (she used her little sharp finger nails to claw at me and rip them off while scratching me) I yanked away multiple times and told her "too rough" to which she continued to claw at me anyway ( I should've left) but like a fool I returned a week later for a polish change of my mani next door in there new "extended" location with a diff tech who barely painted polish onto my nails and I have a streaky manicure ... I shouldn't have to tell you have to give a proper manicure.. not returning and my search for a good manicure near work continues :( read more

Came to this place for the first time last week. Apparently they just got new tables and chairs because all of the regular customers were talking about it and how good they looked. The place is small, but clean. Manzu (sp?) did a great job with my mani/pedi. $25 if you pay cash. $2 more for tax if you pay with card. $2 more for quick dry (usually I bring my own but forgot). What I like about this place is they are open late, the price is great, and they give you a 5 minute foot massage and then at the end a quick shoulder rub while your nails are drying. This place seems great if you want an affordable $25 mani pedi. However, this is NOT the place to go for a gel mani. Their color selection is tiny--maybe 40 or so colors tops. And they don't have the sample nails like most salons do to pick your color. I had to choose a color based on the packaging and ended up with a completely different than I thought I was getting. I also left the salon with a lot of polish around my nails, which doesn't bode well for the longevity of this manicure. EDIT: it held up fine! Anyway, the people who work here are perfectly nice, the complimentary massage was great, and this seems like a good neighborhood gem for a standard mani/pedi. but I definitely would not come back for gels. read more

This used to be my favorite place for pedis because every tech did a great job and the free massage was amazing. But the lately every time I'm disappointed. Today my tech didn't even know how to cut my nails correctly. I'm sad to say it was terrible. I hate having to leave a bad review. Didn't even clean under and around the nails!! Only been once but had a great experience. Did the $25 mani/pedi and my mani lasted 10 days (and I've been cooking a ton!) The mani pedi was great, especially the 5 min massage! Very relaxing but also not too slow. Took about an hour total. It seemed to be getting busy closer to 7, so I'd say go early! This is my new fave nail spot in the area, and I'll definitely go back next time I'm in NYC read more
