I had been looking forward to trying chow mein for the first time, especially since I read it usually comes with noodles, vegetables, and a protein. I ordered the beef chow mein and was excited, especially since it came with white rice. Unfortunately, there were no noodles at all, barely any beef, and mostly just onions. The portion of rice was also extremely small -- the tiniest box of rice I've ever seen -- and the flavor was completely lacking. I also tried the Szechuan wontons (spicy), but they had almost no flavor and definitely weren't spicy. My delivery also arrived later than the estimated time. While I understand restaurants get busy, it added to the disappointment. I've ordered from here in the past and never had complaints, but lately it feels like things have gone downhill. The food's not worth the price. Ordering from Moon Star has become a ripoff and huge dissatisfaction. They fill the dishes with broccoli or lettuce and the portions are skimpy. Sometimes the plastic containers aren't even full. And to boot, the guy who takes the orders is rude, egocentric and dismissive. I can't keep ordering from them in good conscience. Real Chinese restaurants are cheaper and you get better and more food for less. Chinese food delivery is taking advantage of Americans and we need to stop that. read more

This is a very good Chinese takeout restaurant. I have ordered from Moon Star on many occasions. I have tried a few Chinese takeout places in my area, and for the price and quality, this is one of the best. They offer delivery within a limited 5 mile area of their location. Their prices are reasonable and competitive, and the food, with rare exception, is very good to excellent. They offer a very diverse menu. They have every classic offering of most Chinese/American restaurants, and an array of excellent combo platters that are offered at all day and lunch special options. They also offer Pad Thai selections, Chow Udon selections and Real Szechuan and Hunan Selections at multiple spice/heat levels. I am a big fan of their shrimp dishes. They are all excellent. The shrimp are fresh, perfectly cooked, and they don't skimp on the quantity, and they're very flavorful. Their soups are all very good, if you order their wonton soup, you will get large, plentiful, wontons which are tasty, but a bit on the heavy/doughy side. I've tried most of their appetizers, and most were great. I must say that their scallion pancakes and fried fish were a bit skimpy for the price, but the flavors were excellent. Their cold sesame noodles are amazing! The only issue I've had is with their house special lo mein. To me, the taste was off. I don't know why, but it had a slight charcoal-like undertone I found unpleasant. As a side note, their prep time from order to pick-up or delivery is very fast. Overall, they offer a great selection of very good food at reasonable prices. If you are ever in their area, I would highly recommend them. read more

I bought a lunch special. Supposed to be $8.95 for chicken and vegetables and they charge me $14 because it came with the rice and the egg roll that a lunch special is supposed to come with anyway. I've been to multiple Chinese restaurants in which every lunch special comes with egg roll and rice. It's never supposed to be up charged. read more

Always GREAT food! We get takeout from them incredibly often and everything we have tried has been delicious! - this is contingent on ordering directly from the restaurant though! If you haven't read about it - MANY food delivery services are incredibly problematic and often do not have permission from the restaurant to be on the apps so often the menu isn't accurate. They make the driver go in and order the food but the actual restaurant menu is different so they have to make changes. This is NOT the restaurants fault - it is the delivery service! Please go google about it and you will find many articles better explaining this. Ordered food on Seamless at 4:46 PM, with an estimated delivery of 5:26 PM - 5:36 PM. At 6:00 PM, still no food - We call and are told the food will arrive within 5 minutes. Okay, no problem. Not optimal, but I'm willing to give them an extra half hour. At 6:20 something, still no food. The person on the phone is obviously stalling, and telling us the food will be here in a minute. 6:30 PM, still no food. At this point, I wanted to cancel my order, and we told the person on the phone to go ahead and cancel it. He argues and says give him another minute, blah blah, the conversation becomes an argument, and the call ends in a hang-up at 6:35 PM. The driver shows up at 6:42 PM with the food. I told him to take it back, and that we cancelled it. That's just shy of 2 hours for the food to arrive. It wasn't a major order (50 bucks), and the place is 3 miles away, with an estimated travel time of 10 minutes, per Waze. Having to wait a long time is one thing, but jerking us around and telling us the guy will be here in a minute, and he's still not there 40 minutes after is something else. Stay away. I initially placed an order through Grubhub around 5 PM and had a expected delivery of about 6:20 PM only to be contacted at 6:45 PM and be told that my driver's car had broken down and it would delay my delivery time about 20 minutes to half an hour. About 45 minutes later from that time point I then contacted the Resturant wanting to know how much longer it would be until my food arrived. To which they told me five minutes. And in about 40 minutes from that time frame I was then gifted with food that was cold greasy and generally unappetizing. Before my food arrived the owner of the restaurant contacted me and informed me that due to my inconvenience that they would like to extend me a credit or gift card in the form of some undisclosed amount to which I thought was very generous. (At the time) Only to discover that when contacting for Grubhub to follow up on this offer that I was made aware that they would honor a 10% discount on any future purchase when my food arrived cold, greasy and two hours outside of the expected delivery time. I'm from East Haven and they have a great Chinese take out place called Foliage. I moved to Shelton a year ago and out of all the Chinese places in this area, this was the best one by far. Their General Tso's chicken is good and the dumplings are yummy. The only negative I guess, would be that the lo mein needs a little more flavor. My favorite is egg foo young, but I have yet to try it here. The other places around here didn't make the egg foo young very well. I will update my view once I try it! read more
