I wish that I had read the Yelp reviews before I ordered here. I ordered 2 shrimp roles and seafood delight. Instead of a light fried wrap, the egg rolls were heavy and seemed almost like they were battered and fried and hardly had any shrimp in them. I have never had seafood delight where it didn't come in a brown, savory sauce. This one came in a white, completely tasteless sauce. If I didn't add teriyaki sauce, it would have been inedible! The crab was imitation, I asked for mushrooms, but got none. Tons of snap peas and carrots though! I will say that the shrimp and scallops in the seafood delight were cooked well. All in all, I will never order from this place again, ever! read more

I haven't had Chinese food in a long time, but was craving it. Went to Shanghai bc it was close to my house and wow. I ordered a wonton soup, chicken wings, crab rangoon and shrimp and broccoli combo with pork fried rice and spring roll. Every thing was so good. All of that food for just $35! I had ordered from here, thinking it was the restaurant with a similar name in Orange, CT; but I was so woefully wrong. Initially, I was optimistic about this place, but in the end I became very frustrated at how much I paid for their abysmally low quality Chinese food staples. At first I was optimistic because the complimentary chow mein actually came in a prepackaged bag. However, upon eating the food I actually ordered, I can confidently say that my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. The food is very salty, almost to an inedible degree. I ordered the general tso's chicken, which is known for having some tangy sweetness to it; however, there was absolutely no sweetness to their general tso's chicken whatsoever. It felt like I was eating a stale nugget smothered with a greasy, salty sauce. It cost me $15. I had also gotten their beef lo mein, which was given in a generous portion, but was just as salty as the general tso's chicken. I understand that there's going to be salt in both of these dishes, but the lo.mein was so darkly covered that it was like they put extra soy sauce in my food. I would like to further add that the lo.mein was also $15. Save yourself from wasting your money here. I would recommend the Shanghai Gourmet restaurant in Orange a million times over this place. read more

I ordered the Chinatown vegetable noodle soup and the Shanghai noodles, and they were outstanding!

I had been here a few times for their egg rolls, which I think are the best in the area. I tried an actual entree for the first time tonight and it completely turned me off. I got pork egg foo young which is pretty hard to mess up. I have never had it served with the sauce, it normally comes separate. The sauce completely ruined the dish, the consistency and flavor both made it inedible. I will stick to the egg rolls from now on. read more

Went here for lunch with my coworker. We ordered the lunch special General Tsao chicken with pork fried rice. The pork fried rice was good and flavorful, but the chicken was way too salty. I'm not even joking, it was pretty salty which made it hard for me to eat. However, the staff was friendly, and the food was fast. So I'm going to give it 2 stars. I remember going to this restaurant and sitting and eating...but times have changed. Tonight I had a taste for Chinese food so I ordered dinner for Mom and me. After ordering the computer said it would take 50 to 80 minutes. Well it was a 50 minute delivery. I thought very fast and seamless. The first thing we had was our chicken noodle soup. Excellent. Nice tasting and big pieces of chicken. Next we had their spring rolls. Also very good....and fresh. I ordered steamed pork dumplings...and they were very tastey. Best I've tasted in a long time. Then we had our dinners. I had the pork egg foo young combination with roast pork fried rice and Mom had the pepper steak with roast pork fried rice. All the food was very tasty and I'm sooooooooo GLAD we decided to order food from here. Hopefully some day soon we'll be able to eat there...cause we'll be visiting more. When we moved to Shelton we tried every Chinese food in the area, Shanghai is the only Chinese restaurant that we continue to visit 8 years later. Service is good, food is good and very consistent. The only night we avoid is Tuesday because they seem to have a different cook that night. read more

I've been buying from them for a few years. The lady at the desk is so sweet and generous. She's helped me many times in taking my heavy order out to my car. Their food is very tasty! Just thinking about it makes me want to order! Is it almost lunch time?!! MMmm My favorite is the dumplings! You get good portion of food. Their prices are what you expect. It has about 4 tables inside to eat there but I never do. You have to order and pick-up they do not deliver, they only deliver to big companies. Really great takeout and nice staff! Don't expect Red Lotus, fancy bistro-type food but do expect a good meal. I've also tried their competition, Hunan Pan, which has better reviews on yelp but this was way better takeout. I originally grew up in Norwalk and if you're from that area, this is like your Li's Brothers or staple chinese food restaurant that hits the spot kind of place. I wish there had been another container of sweet and sour sauce for the Sweet and Sour Chicken but the General Tso's I also had was flavorful and they fry the chicken well so the coating is crispy but tender. Yum! Staff was nice and their prices are reasonable. Honestly not overpriced for CT and the rising cost of ingredients. It's a little hard to get food extras like egg rolls and crab rangoons unless you order around $50 or more but they were really good and I would definitely order from there again! read more

Pleasantly surprised. I live very close to this restaurant, and neighbors always say it's good, but after reading the reviews I was skeptical. I shouldn't have been. Big portions of course. Very fair prices. The general tso's chicken is excellent. The sauce is a very bright red which I'm not used to, but tastes very good. The chicken itself was tasty. Tender on the inside, crispy on the outside. Perfect. Much better than some of the chinese places I used to think were pretty good. I love eggrolls and these were perfect. Crispy. Not overly oily/greasy at all ! The chicken fried rice, also excellent. Now if we are splitting hairs, I guess maybe slightly overcooked. However, this will probably be perfect later when reheated in the microwave ! Very friendly people and a convenient location with easy in / easy out access. read more

Not good. Wonton soup had OK taste but was cold. Shrimp fried rice was tasteless. Looked like they boiled the shrimp and plopped it in with some rice. No sign of onions, peas or egg.....and minimal spicing. Never had Singapore Chow Fun before now but I can't imagine that this is supposed to be how it tastes. There was virtually no meat in it. The few shrimp that were in there were boiled and of the popcorn variety. Almost no vegetables at all. It was mostly a dry pasta overloaded with curry and no sauce whatsoever. I don't write yelp reviews lightly but felt compelled to. I have lived in Shelton for over 20 years and am a huge fan of Hunan Pan. I thought I'd try Shanghai since it's close and got great reviews. I ordered take out lunch today: won ton soup, egg drop soup, spring rolls, shrimp rolls, shrimp fried rice and pepper steak with onions. The pepper steak is for my hubby when he gets home so I can't comment on it. First, the chow main noodles couldn't be cheaper. One inch long, pre-packaged garbage. The soups were ok. Won ton soup broth was a bit dark ... more beef stock than I've ever seen but the dumplings were nice. Egg drop soup was great. Shrimp roll was over cooked..fried too long and dark outside. I ate 3/4 of it (mostly cabbage)before I found a tiny shrimp that wasn't even a complete shrimp but cut into pieces. Disappointing., spring roll was also over cooked and too darkly fried. Not sure what was in it but it tasted funky. Shrimp fried rice was basically boiled shrimp with yellow rice. No other ingredients. No egg, no scallions, no peas. Very disappointing. Nice people, good service but I won't be back. Sad. There are not many great Asian take out restaurants in this area. I'll stick with Hunan Pan ..they are far superior. I hate writing reviews like this but a business owner needs to be excellent to remain in business my rating of two stars IMO was generous. Bummer. read more

We've been getting takeout here for years. Great food and the people who run the place are very nice and friendly. We moved out of the area for a while and were always disappointed in the offerings where we were. We recently moved back to Shelton and first thing we did on moving day was to order from Shanghai.
