We spent New Year's Eve at Moona and loved every minute. The host and our server were both fantastic. They were welcoming, attentive, and made the night feel special. For drinks we ordered the Oh, Snap! whcih was super refreshing, while the Saved By The Bell had a nice spicy kick with strong bell pepper flavor. For food, the Hummus Tahini was the best hummus I've ever had (with incredible pita), and the Feta Fritters were AMAZING!!!! easily one of the best appetizers I've had. The Syrian Batersh was good, but would be even better with pita. Great food, great service. The restaurant was small and cute! It was slightly cold near the door/windows but we will definitely be back. And can't wait to try out the new Central Square location! read more

We were able to get seated for dinner luckily but only had an hour as they were holding the table for the reservation later. Food came out quickly and piping hot. I would come back just for their dessert! Two of us stopped by on a weekday evening for dinner. I made the reservation online a couple days in advance and was able to reserve bar seats at pretty much any hour. Since I booked only a few days ahead of time, the dining room was completely booked out during peak dinner hours. We decided to split the eggplant fatteh ($15), Spanish octopus ($20), date molasses BBQ steak tips ($18), and grilled whole fish ($32). The mezza arrived very quickly. Our favorite was the eggplant fatteh, which had a tasty combination of tart yogurt, earthy pine nuts, and smoky eggplant. We also enjoyed the Spanish octopus but I felt that the fennel yogurt was lacking in fennel flavor. Although the steak tips were tasty, they were a little bit dry and the butternut squash puree had extremely faint flavor and seasoning. I'm not sure if I would order the steak tips again, but I would highly recommend the other two mezza we tried. We were pretty hungry so we polished off the mezza and waited a while before the grilled whole fish arrived. It was worth it, though! The seasoning on the fish was so tasty and the buttery fish paired really well with the creamy hummus underneath. We also enjoyed the orange and fennel salad on the side. Even after devouring the fish we realized we could still eat so we decided to try two of their desserts, the rhubarb pavlova ($14) and the awamat ($13). Both desserts were amazing! It has been a while since I've been blown away by desserts. I loved the texture and flavor combinations in the rhubarb pavlova: the almond cream and crispy meringue would have been too sweet on their own, but their sweetness was balanced by the tart rhubarb pieces and peppercorn labneh. The awamat also had a fun balance between sweet (fried dough and ice cream) and sour (passion fruit caramel and mango creme patisserie). I can't wait until I have these desserts again, and I look forward to trying their other desserts as well. I was quite satisfied with my experience dining here for the first time. There's a problem: Why can't I leave 6 stars? I've been to Moona 3 or 4 times and been so impressed each one. I think I've sat at the bar each time, and that's the move. The cocktails are inventive (carrots and tequila? ok!) and match the creativity of the small plates, designed to share, family style. Service is always solid. We brought two vegetarian friends here and they were super impressed. I've literally not had a dish here I didn't like. We had an amazing meal at this small but lively Middle Eastern Mediterranean spot. Literally every dish was a hit. The atmosphere felt warm and energetic, perfect for sharing family-style dishes. The hummus and baba ganouj were creamy and full of flavor, and the fluffy, warm pita bread kept disappearing as soon as it hit the table. My husband and I took his parents here for their 69th anniversary. I had seen it reviewed and was looking forward to it. Something to know is that small plates are really small. We liked the feta fritters. Falafel was dry without enough sauce. An eggplant dish was excellent--deep flavor. Very few selections for wine or beer. Super loud! We really couldn't hear each other. Solid Mediterranean meal! We got the Muhammara, eggplant fatteh, and lamb shoulder. The Muhammara came with warm gyro and was delightful. A gritty walnut texture , fresh mint, pomegranate seeds, and a rich red pepper flavor--great way to start the meal. The eggplant was deeply caramelized and rich. The portion however was very small. The braised lamb shoulder was also on the small side for an entree, but was a good dish--tender and flavorful. The service was attentive and food came out quickly. Not great customer service. We ordered through Uber Eats and received someone else's DoorDash order. The receipt and food were for someone named Kohana, while the bag was labeled Elizabeth. This was a restaurant labeling error, not a driver issue. When we contacted them, they first offered to remake the order "for free," then paused without offering any next steps. When we asked how we would get the food, they said they don't have a delivery driver. They didn't suggest remaking it with a refund if we were willing to pick it up, nor did they follow up with a solution, even after we explained we have a newborn and can't leave the house. They then blamed Uber Eats, saying they'd make sure drivers don't grab the wrong bags in the future, despite the bag being mislabeled. They said they would process a refund, though it's unclear how that works when the order was placed through Uber Eats. We were also told we could eat whatever was delivered "if needed," which wasn't an acceptable solution. The tone was friendly, but there was no real accountability, ownership, or effort to make things right beyond the refund. Mistakes happen. This was handled poorly. read more

This is one of my favorite places in the Boston/Cambridge area! The food is delicious and the price point is very affordable compared to lots of other places nearby. We've been here multiple times and the service and food are always consistent. There's limited seating inside but it's normally not too hard to get a reservation the week of. What we ordered: - Eggplant Fatteh: This is a must try! The pairing of the eggplant with the yogurt/tahini sauce is addicting and the crispy pita chips on top are scrumptious. We get this every time we come. - Palestinian Msakhan Duck Rolls: The seasoning on the outside of these was so good, though we wish that the wrapper could be slightly thinner. - Chicken Tagine: This comes out steaming hot and every bite is a nice warm bite. So happy we squeezed into this charming spot for a last minute reservation late on a Friday night! I've spent lots of time in Inman square, but somehow missed out on Moona until now. The first thing you'll notice about this place is it's size - the restaurant is tiny with a handful of tables and a bar taking up about a quarter of the space. There's not much room to wait for your table, so during Winter in Boston when no one wants to stand outside, that means the entrance is pretty congested and everyone waiting is pushing up on the tables and the bar. As you can guess, with so little space and such a good reputation, a reservation is key. That's pretty much the only downside I can come up with for this place. Now let's get to the good stuff. At Moona, you'll come for the sharable Mediterranean small plates and stick around for the complex cocktails and cozy, Cambridge vibes. We kicked things off with the Painless Twist and Korkom and Carrot cocktails, which were both home runs - my husband has a soft spot for painkillers, and the Painless Twist is the more sophisticated, refined version of his dreams. I was also a big fan of the Sauvignon Blanc they offer by the glass. The menu has a handful of interesting entrees, but for our first visit, we opted for all small plates so we could sample as much as possible. I highly recommend the Tuna Tartare, Scallops with bbq duck, and Date Molasses Steak Tips. I also have to give a special shoutout to the Spanish Octopus--I get some guilt every time I order Octopus thanks to the Netflix doc, so if I'm going to eat it, it needs to be worth it, and Moona's take sure is. Came here on a Friday night with a reservation and we were seated quite quickly. We got a table next to the door which was unfortunate given how cold it was outside, but unfortunately wasn't our choice as the place was packed. The menu had a good variety of foods and drinks - I appreciated how consolidated it all was on one page. We shared 6 dishes for the two of us and left quite full along with dessert - things came out pretty quickly as well which was nice, but not too fast at the same time so the pacing was good. Their drinks were nice as well - I would be willing to try more on their menu if I ever came back. The food was all really yummy - good portions, nice flavor, and just overall a good meal. A bit pricy, but I think for a nice night out, things were overall reasonable. Service was also pretty solid throughout the night, although it took a while for them to come around for the check. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would be happy to come back in the future. I'd recommend a reservation if possible though given how busy things were and how bar seats were super sparse! read more

I didn't get the chance to take pictures of my food, but I had a great experience at Moona! My only complaint was that I was seated by the door, so it was pretty cold, but that's not their fault. The service was top notch and my water glass was always full! In terms of food, we ordered the Brussels, Scallops, Shish Tawouk, and Date Molasses Steak Tips for mezza and the Chicken Tagine to share for the main. I really enjoyed each of the appetizers, especially the Date Molasses Steak Tips, which were cooked perfectly. I wasn't quite as impressed by the Chicken Tagine, but that might have more so been because I wasn't especially interested in the dish, not because it wasn't cooked nicely. With a group of 3, we did 8 things and were very very full by the end. Very tasty cocktails, and unique food items that are satisfying for all in a group to share and taste. You could order multiple of anything and be satisfied, but the fun was trying all the different things. Best thing we tried was the salmon that was super fresh and a great cut and prepared perfectly. This is such a wonderful space in Cambridge! My partner was able to get day-of-reservations at the bar; someone must have canceled! It was packed throughout my time there! The service at the bar was very attentive. My partner and I got the chicken tagine, the feta fritters, the eggplant fateh, and the lamb burgers. The feta fritters: This was masterful, like a very elevated mozzarella cheese stick. The eggplant fateh: This was so smooth! All parts were flavorful, and I enjoyed the contrasts in texture. The tagine: Pro-tip 1 -- dip the chicken in the sauce! Otherwise, the chicken you cut off won't have contacted the sauce and will be less flavorful. Pro-tip 2 -- let the potato crisp up; it'll be so crunchy! The lamb burgers: These were strong in lamb taste. It's nice when a restaurant doesn't shy away from the gaminess, and works with it. Where do I begin? I'm so happy I came across this gem in my Yelp search for a Middle Eastern restaurant I can call 'my spot' as a soon-to-be Bostonian. Food: - The flavors Moona brings together in its menu are incredible and surprised my palate in the best way. There's a big Mezza part of the menu, so my friend and I decided on 4 small plates to share between us. We tried the Eggplant Fatteh -- so delicious but a bit underseasoned; Feta Fritters -- a surprise to my tastebuds, absolutely fantastic approach to a fried cheese ball; Batata Harra -- also a bit underseasoned but still yummy and well-fried; and Lamb Burgers (sliders) -- nice bite-size and meat cooked perfectly. Though we didn't indulge in any alcoholic beverages, this part of the menu seems interesting and I'm interested to try some drinks at a later point. Service: - The service was absolutely lovely. Our server was so friendly and tended to us well. Our waters were frequently refilled! Ambiance: - The establishment is really beautiful. This is my first time back since the pandemic. Food and staff members are always wonderful. I came here on a Tuesday night for dinner with one of my gfs--we have catching up to do. For drinks: I had the High Noon (Citadelle Gin, Green Chartreuse, Thai Basil, Arak, Soda). This drink tasted like a margarita, yum. My friend had the Korkom & Carrot. For food: Feta Fritters--This is a must. The filling is smooth and silky. The outside is crispy with a hint of sweetness from the orange blossom honey. Istanbul Grape Leaves--I found the grape leaves to be a bit tough. The flavor was a bit lemony. The sauce was light it would be nice if it was thicker and less runny. Scallops & Harissa Barbecue Duck--The scallops are medium size (not the usual large scallops you get from other restaurants). Regardless it was cooked nicely, not rubbery. It paired well with the sweet corn cream. I cannot comment on the duck in the shredded duck in the middle as I didn't try it. My friend enjoyed it though. Spanish Octopus--The octopus was tender but too salty for me. Grilled whole fish--This was amazing and paired nicely with the citric side salad and the crunchy radish. Mixed: - lamb burgers: 4/5 stars. Very lamb-y in a tasty way though it was hard to taste the tomato jam (really wish there had been more) between the lamb, pickles, and pickled onions (appreciated that they were very finely shredded). The buns were soft but seemed very store bought. - chicken tajine: 3/5 stars. A generous portion of chicken and root veggies. It would have been a lot better if they cut the chicken into small pieces and it was more a stew like I've had other tajine. Then the chicken would not be so dry inside the large chunk. The surface pieces were flavorful. What I thought were onion pieces were actually preserved lemon, which did add nice additional flavor when cut into small pieces to eat with the chicken. The root veggies were well seasoned but I wish the carrots were more done, to be a similar soft texture as the squash/pumpkin. - pita 1/5: incredibly disappointing - so dry and thin. I love breads of all kinds and was really surprised their pita was so inedible (I actually threw it out). I'm glad I didn't order a dip and the pita was only $1.50 or I'd be even more upset. I got it delivered via DoorDash. I don't care much about having food be hot when I eat it, but this was a notable time where everything was cold even though the restaurant is quite close to me. read more

I took my dad to Moona while he was in town and do not regret it! The food was all excellent quality with interesting flavors. It's a great place to go with a big group so that you can try many of the small plates they have. My favorite dish was the Eggplant Fattah which had the most delicious sauce and was cooked extraordinarily well. It is quite small and cramped inside, and we were there late (8:30) on a Sunday night and it was still packed. I would recommend making a reservation if you go! Our waiter was super friendly and funny, and provided great service all night. I couldn't believe how attentive they were at filling waters as well - the second I took a sip the glass was refilled! read more

A couple of things to watch out for: - A reservation is a must - If you make a reservation online, it automatically selects a "Bar" reservation and you won't know it until you inspect the confirmation. It will say "Moona: Bar". - Don't be late, not even 10 minutes. They will cancel your reservation. Even on a Sunday night. Call if you're running late. The service started out choppy because of the reservation issues, but the hostess seated us regardless, which was appreciated. The ambiance was alright. The space is small and tight, as are the tables. The area is a construction zone, so you'll be staring at a crane if you're facing the window. The food was a mix. Tapas style, so the serving sizes will be small. The octopus was hard and not very flavorful. The steak tips were pretty good. The feta fritters were not what we were expecting - very creamy inside but pleasant. The dip plate was kind of meh. The cheesecake was a little too hard and didn't go well with the tahini. They did put a candle on it for my friend's birthday, which was very nice of them. The bread for the dip was cold, hard/chewy - probably one of the most disappointing bread baskets I've come across. Overall, would I come back here? Probably not. Not worth the hassle or the prices in my opinion. There's a parking lot behind the restaurant but the signs said it was only for bank customers and there were towing signs all over. We found street parking nearby on the same street. read more

This was our second dinner at Moona; the first was before covid. We chose a Tuesday nite, since the restaurant is small and can get crowded on weekends. Based on others' reviews, we ordered the Brussel Sprouts, Feta Fritters, Fatteh, and for dessert, the Halwa Cheesecake. All were good - especially the brussel sprouts. I loved the tahini and honey flavors, although they slightly overpowered the sprouts (we differed a bit on our opinions of each dish; these are my opinions). The fritters were tasty, but not exceptional. Only the fatteh was disappointing; it seemed underspiced, and part was cold, part was room temperature, part was a bit warm. The mixture seemed like it all should have been very warm. Speaking of warm, the restaurant was COLD. It wasn't one of those frosty nights; it was kinda mild out. We sat on the side furthest from the door, and staffpeople kept going down to the basement, letting in blasts of freezing air. However, the service was VERY warm! Decided to try Moona for a special occasion and it didn't disappoint! It's a small restaurant, so things can get a bit crowded and I definitely recommend reservations. Makes for a great date night, but I wouldn't come with friends given the crowding and the small plates. First, the good: the lamb sliders were solid, and we had slightly mixed feelings on the scallops/duck--I really enjoyed the corn cream, but my partner found it too sweet. The scallops do seem to be a slightly odd addition to the delicious combo of duck/leek/corn, and I didn't actually taste the harissa. Then, the amazing: The feta fritters absolutely exceeded expectations. It's like the more upscale cousin of mac and cheese balls. The sweet and slightly crisp exterior gives way to such creamy, rich cheese, it's an absolute delight. Then the eggplant fatteh just knocked it out of the park!
