We purposely visited Pastrycat at their brick & mortar restaurant just opened in May of 2026 but waited at least a month later. We have been to this building before when it was a different restaurant inside so maybe Pastrycat is a better fit. The neighborhood is so blessed to have this business bc this baker is so talented. Remember she had popups ongoing for the last five plus years & she definitely has a huge following! Yaaassss!!! We were here closer to 11 AM on purpose to try their pork veggie dish over rice, breakfast sammy, iced hojicha unsweetened latte & fruit custard tart. I thought the pork veggie dish was too rich & thick for me maybe bc I'm not a huge gravy fan but my wife enjoyed it. She also loved the breakfast sandwich although the chimichurri was very unique but worked for her. She wished her latte came with almond milk but that wasn't an option but she did enjoy the hojicha unsweetened oat latte. The hojicha roasted tea flavor truly came through. Forgot to mention we were lucky to snag a table indoors as outdoor seating was totally full. So at least we enjoyed our food right away. Yes our order came quickly! My wife used the ladies room out back. You will need a code for it. Yes the restaurant isn't huge so it could be ideal to just order food to go which can be the only disadvantage. Bc we ate a pretty full breakfast my wife had her tart later. She reveled her fruit tart with the many croissant layers like she was in pastry heaven!!! Omgosh!!! She said she was! We were fortunate to get parking right away although we observed street parking here & there. At least parking is free if you find a space. If you haven't tried pastrycat you must treat yourself. Just gonna start this conversation off with, WOW! Super impressed by the delicate pastries. I spent $65 picking out some of the tastiest things I've had. The ham and cheese pastry was to die for, the bread was something made from the heavens. I also got a ton of other pastries but I didn't go by the name, just how visually amazing they looked. A simple, straightforward cafe serving drinks and pastries. Personally, I found the drinks to be much better than the food. I loved my hojicha latte. The ham and cheese pain suisse was incredibly beautiful with delicate baked thin strips across it, but the flavor was a bit one note, and a bit too salty at that. The staff work hard here. Everyone seemed very busy. There are a lot of places to sit and most if not all of them are full. They have so much turnover that we had to clean our own table. Pastry Cat absolutely lives up to the hype when it comes to their pastries. Everything looked beautiful, and for the most part, the flavors matched the presentation. The standout was easily the Ham & Cheese Pain Suisse. The pastry had an incredible crisp, caramelized exterior while staying buttery, soft, and flaky inside. The ham-to-cheese ratio was spot on, and every bite was rich without feeling overly heavy. My only complaint is that it was served cold. I really wish it had been warmed up because I think it would've taken an already amazing pastry to the next level. The Breakfast Biscuit Sandwich was another winner. The beef and pork sausage tasted house-made with well-balanced spices, the fresh chimichurri added brightness, and the herbs paired perfectly with the savory sausage. The egg was cooked just right, and the biscuit itself was moist, tender, and the perfect vessel for everything inside. For sweets, the Hazelnut Orange Financier was moist and delicious with great flavor, though definitely on the sweeter side. The Strawberry Banana Passion Fruit Scone had really unique fruit flavors that worked well together, but it was very sweet and just a little too sweet for my personal preference. I also ordered the Oat Matcha Latte, which was probably the weakest part of the meal. It wasn't bad, just also not good. The milk-to-matcha ratio leaned heavily toward milk, so the matcha flavor got a little lost. The matcha wasn't fully mixed/suspended so it wasn't the smooth consistency you hope from a matcha. Had to be one of the few times I didn't stop long enough to take pictures before diving in! I was so focused on trying all the different treats I picked up, I couldn't wait! This was my first visit to the Pastry Cat as well as the first time trying them. Seeing pictures of the long lines from their pop-ups at Offbeat Coffee kept me from giving them a try. I would have to say that their baked goods are the best I've had in Sac. I picked the cinnamon roll, financier, scone, matcha cookie and miso cookie. The flavor bombs just kept coming with every bite. One of the things I loved about their pastries is that they are not overly sweet. You really get to taste the flavor and not sugar on sugar. My only knock would be the price for the size of the pastries, but the uniqueness and quality make up for the price. I can't wait to go back and try more! read more

I've tried Pastry Cat pastries when they had the pop up at Offbeat Coffee. The line is always out the door and often sell out on the popular items. When I heard they opened their own store in East Sac, I was excited to go check them out at their new home. As of right now, they are opened on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 AM to 1 PM. I stop by on Friday at around 11:30 AM and the place was packed. The line move pretty quickly but by the time I was in front of the counter, almost everything is gone with cookies and plain croissant left. Sigh~ I didn't want to leave empty handed and got the Earl Grey Brownie, Diamant sable, Chocolate Chip Cookie and Matcha Latte. Their Matcha Latte is probably one of the better ones I had in Sacramento. You can taste the matcha and it's lightly sweeten and smooth. The Diamant sable cookies were a nice treat. Not too sweet, light and buttery. I'm not crazy about the Earl Grey Brownie, even though I like Earl Grey tea. It's not doing it for me. They also serve lunch from 11 AM to 1 PM. The braised pork rice bowl sounds good. I hope to try the Black Sesame Almond Financier and Cherry Pistachio Almond (or one of their seasonal) Croissant next time and will have to aim to get there at 8AM. I understand the hype, but when the hype deters you from visiting, I'm not sure it's good hype. The store is so small, no wonder there's always a line down the block. I was fortunate enough to visit on a slow Monday, so no line. The counter service was pleasant enough. The tomato toast was killer! Such fresh ingredients and really well constructed flavors. The other one I tried was okay but didn't hold up to a couple hours in a to go box. While everything was tasty, I'm not sure a 45 minute wait and $20 for two items is worth it all. We've been here a couple of times now, and love it. Arguably my favorite pastry shop/bakery in the city, please note that lines can get long. The staff are all cool though, but because of the foot traffic, they may have to be the bearer of bad news and tell you that by the time you pull up to the front, that stuff may be sold out. To ensure the baked good or dish you want is still available, heavily encouraged to get there early. Everything I've had here is delicious, and we haven't had a bad bite yet. While they are all delicious, arguably the standouts include the cherry pistachio almond croissants, za'atar Gruyére croissants, and lap Cheng and cheese scones. We had some of the dishes, and enjoyed them. The French toast is next on the list to try, and they look incredible. We'll be back again and again. read more

Really good bakery. I don't go to many bakeries, but I enjoyed almost everything here. My favorites were the Za'atar Gruyère Croissant. The spice was really good with the savory cheese. The Coffee Choc Croissant was super flaky and nice texture. Canelé also had a nice contrast in texture between the spongy inside and the slightly crispy outside, and it didn't reek of rum at all. Danish was solid and a nice sweetness level, Ham and Cheese also had a nice salty melted and crispy cheese and savory ham. I actually didn't like the matcha yuzu cookie that much, but it's a really spongy cookie. A line. I came at like 9, had to wait a bit. Nice place to sit and eat at. read more

There wasn't a line either, but I would say it was busy. After ordering, we sat at the bar since all the tables inside were taken. Luckily, we saw a table open up after our pastries were delivered. My name was shortly called to pick up our drinks. While the rice bowls (lunch) sounded good, we decided to order a few pastry items to share. My favorite was the ham & cheese pain suisse- flaky. I also enjoyed the cherry pistachio almond croissant, but wish for more pistachio flavor. The salted honey croissant bun and miso brown butter cookie that my friends picked were just ok. Pastry cat is no longer just a pop-up at your local farmers market and other places, it is a true brick and mortar location. Located in East sac/Sutter Park, it definitely has that neighborhood feel to it. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and people bring their leashed pets to sit outside. Both indoor and outdoor are pretty limited with seats, so keep in mind. You may need to get your treats to go. You stand in line, and from what I can tell, there is always a line, to order at the counter, and then your items are brought to your table. Many of the items are on their regular menu and they do have seasonal items such as the cherry pistachio croissant that was being offered. They only had one offering of a breakfast Sando, and I was hoping for more of a protein push, and they graciously offered to make just the patty for me. The patty had an unusual flavor. And almost tasted like they perhaps add cinnamon or something to it. Definitely not a fan. The Matcha latte was delicious and I had them add date syrup to it. This combo really made for a tasty drink. I really enjoyed the cherry pistachio croissant. I'm not a fan of pistachio and was hesitant to try it, but I'm so glad that I did. It definitely taste like hard work and love. The couple that own and run pastry cat are very present and you'll see them bringing food to the tables and interacting with their favorite customers. I love that it feels like a neighborhood location and we need more of these type of places throughout Sacramento. We stopped into Pastry Cat for the first time, on a late Sunday morning. My girlfriend was familiar with the owner back when they bothe had pop-up shops, and did events at the same location. Once we arrived there was a small line out the door which we assumed would move rather quickly so we decided to wait. Because Pastry Cat is still in the soft opening phase, there was a limit on pastries per customer which was noted on sign inside & outside of the establishment. Ultimately we waited maybe 30 minutes in total before it was time was us to order inside, and we ordered the following: Coffee: Vanilla Latte (hot) Vanilla Latte (iced) Pastries: Vanilla Rum Canele Matcha Yuzu Almond cookie Miso Brown Butter cookie Chocolate Chip cookie We originally planned to have coffee and a biscuit breakfast sandwich and a French Toast plate and then taken some pastries home. But theu were out of the biscuit sandwiches, so we just oped for the coffee and took the pastries home for the family. Been here almost every week for the last month. Not only is the neighborhood super cute with a playground across the street for the parents, but the food and drinks here are amazing. It's no secret that I have been a fan since her pop-up days and been following her from Creative Space to Scorpio coffee to Offbeat Coffee. Still one of the best pastry chefs in Sacramento. She set standards high with the Pistachio Cherry Crossiant and the sparkling Passionfruit Matcha. Been my summer obsession so far and I can't wait to see what the new fall menu is going to be. The new savory Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich is not to be missed. I typically don't even like biscuits but this housemade one isnt as crumbly which I appreciate. Coffee and canele was bliss. The latter especially was the perfect three bite pastry and the best instance of the tray I've tried. Yummmmmmm! It was such a cute place and I can't wait to go back! I snagged a peach croissant and it was like a dream. The flakiness of the croissant and fresh sliced peaches made for a yummy late morning treat. Their hours are quite limited but if you're able to get there after the morning rush just before closing you can still have a variety of choices. I came to Pastry Cat on a Friday morning fairly early before taking my dogs for a walk. There was a small line, but it moved quickly and the service was fast; they had only been open for perhaps 15 minutes by the time I arrived. Parking can be a little tricky, but I managed to find a spot on the street out front. This is definitely more the sort of place that you would want to walk to if you lived in the neighborhood rather than try to drive over and fight for parking. I decided to order an iced oat milk Matcha latte with some of their vanilla sweetener, as well as a chocolate chip cookie and a biscuit breakfast sandwich. The Matcha latte was smooth and creamy with the perfect level of sweetness. The chocolate chip cookie was a nice little splurge, and I appreciated the sea salt on top to balance out the sweetness. The biscuit breakfast sandwich was tremendous! The biscuit was warm and flaky, but held up to the sausage and egg. The egg was cooked to a perfect runny texture, and I appreciated the chimichurri sauce. It definitely was filling and satisfied my savory breakfast craving. I understand the hype and I thoroughly enjoyed everything I ordered, but I don't know if I would stand in line for an extended period of time. I've been going to Pastry Cat's pop ups at Offbeat for a while. This place combines my love for cats and sweets. I love their pastries and the fact they buy local seasonal ingredients. They cater their menu based on what's in season and also use Asian spices frequently, which I love. When they opened a brick and mortar, I had to go visit. The space has an open kitchen and some seating, not ideal for big groups. There's also a little amount of outdoor seating as well. They serve hot breakfast and lunch too, so it's nice to see your meal being made with the open kitchen concept. Pros: fresh pastries need I say more? One of my favorites is their chocolate chip cookie, just the right balance of chocolate and salt. I love their seasonal croissants too. Cons: don't love the parking situation as it's near a neighborhood. There are other businesses nearby so parking isn't the easiest when it's busy. read more

I've walked out with plenty of pastries from Pastry Cat before and they're always so delicious and unique! My boyfriend and I were super happy when we found out they opened a storefront in East Sacramento. We skipped the soft opening as we knew it would be packed and most likely sold out (as they were and should be). We came this past Saturday around 9:30 am and there was a decent amount of people inside and on the patio. The line went by quick and we got our pastries and drinks in no time. We decided to get the zaatar gruyere croissant and salted honey croissant. We promised we were not going to walk out with a box filled this time. I loved how they added drinks, since my favorite thing is to have a coffee with a pastry. I tried their iced latte with date syrup and my boyfriend got an americano. I'd say the drinks are decent but nothing you have to go out of your way for. I will say $1 extra for the added syrup is a bit much for me, but I think they're all made in house. I couldn't really taste it in my coffee as it only added a settle sweetness. I did enjoy my iced latte but I would say it was more on the milky side. I didn't try the americano, but my boyfriend finished it and he didn't seem to have any complaints. I do wish they were the same size though, looks like the americano came in a smaller cup. Now onto the stars of the show, the pastries were great as usual. You could really taste the zaatar and gruyere. I thought the flavors complemented each other really well. And I really enjoyed how the zaatar flavors were more enhanced as you ate the croissant. The salted croissant surprised me! The honey gave off a caramel flavor and had a really good thickness. I didn't get any saltiness from it, but I enjoyed it and would get again. Super happy for the owners! They definitely deserve all the praise and recognition. The pastry was flaky & flavorful but I was surprised they didn't warm it up, or even ask, like most places do. Especially since I stated I was eating it there. Drink was also good but she asked me what sort of syrup flavoring I wanted without mentioning it would be an additional $1 upcharge. Overall, two pastry items & a drink was $21.44 after tax & not including tip. Idk...I think that's a bit steep personally but these higher-end bakeries/coffee shops are all the rage right now, so there you go. read more

Despite a steady line, the service was warm, personable, and efficient, which made the experience feel very welcoming. My only small suggestion would be to offer the option to warm pastries, even for to-go orders. We ended up eating ours almost immediately on the way to our next stop, and I think a warm croissant would have elevated it to the next level. My first time trying pastry cat after following them on instagram for a while! The location of this place is near a neighborhood with street parking. The inside had an open kitchen vibe with the chefs plating and making dough for the pastries. There was seating inside as well as the little patio outside. It's enough for small groups of people to visit but if you have a large family like mine there might be difficulty finding seating. Luckily there was only two of us. We decided to sit outside as the weather was nice. Got the salmon toast and heirloom tomato toast which both came with a croissant, a sauce and either tomatoes or lox. The croissant itself was a little tough to cut through but the toppings and the sauce more than made up for it! It was absolutely delicious. The sauce in particular had the perfect amount of tang and the tomatoes were refreshing on a warm day. The coffee and matcha were also pretty good. Very nice bakery cafe! We were planning on driving from the Bay Area to Folsom for an event and made a detour to Pastry Cat in East Sacramento. So glad we did. The food is delicious, the service was great- super fast with the drinks and food- and the cafe itself was clean and bright. We came around 11:00 and even though the line was to the door, everything went quickly. We got a bunch of stuff: chocolate croissant and chocolate chip cookie for my son, breakfast biscuit sandwich, French toast, zaatar pastry and a salted honey pastry, matcha latte and vanilla latte, and a bag of coffee and a few bags of granola to-go. We never caught Pastry Cat for their popups and were really excited to try them out at their brick and mortar location. We got there just before 8 am on the Friday and there was already a line. There's plenty of free street parking. As far as lining up, it was a bit tight with everyone on the ramp (there's a big rose bush or something), so you're going to be running up against the thorns if you're not careful. The seating inside is a little limited, but very cute! There's a little outdoor patio as well, where you can exit from, but then you'll get back to the ramp where people are lining up. I imagine this will be less of an issue as the hype eases over time. We got to the front of the line, and there are items like craft coffee beans, matcha, and chocolate that you can purchase. Their pastry case was beautiful. Service was alright. The gal at the front was kind of low energy and didn't really bother to introduce any of the items or ask if we had questions. Additionally, after we got our drinks, we noticed that the lids didn't fit properly on our matcha. My partner asked if there was a different lid for the matcha, and they simply pointed to the lids on the counter, which was where we got it from. We tried a couple of lids and it was clear they were all the same size and did not fit properly. I'm kind of surprised they didn't test it ahead of time. In any case, the matcha was just ok. Color seemed ok, but not as vibrant and the flavor is not as strong as other local matcha shops. Overall, the sweet pastries were quite sweet for my palate. As for the pastries, we ordered the following: -Hazelnut hojicha financier: I liked the texture due to the butter, a bit of crispiness to the edges and it was soft, moist. I liked the large salt pieces and this was probably the least sweet of all 3 pastries (which were all sweet for me). This would go well with black coffee. I think this was my favorite of the 4 pastries we got. -Cara cara almond croissant: This was probably the sweetest pastry due to the almond portion of the filling. The cara cara marmalade (?) was strong in flavor but it didn't seem well distributed with the almond (edges and center had almond, and it seemed the cara cara was more towards the center). The croissant had a very nice crunch though! -Strawberry banana passionfruit scone: Quite sweet as the drizzle was covering most of the scone. I felt like there was a lot going on with the three fruits. -Zaatar and gruyere croissant: It was nice and flaky, buttery. Again, I wished the toppings were distributed a bit more. The gruyere was more towards the center of the croissant, with the zaatar being more evenly distributed. I hope to try their cookies and kitchen items in the future! read more

COME ON I got my husband the cherry pistachio almond croissant and he really liked it! We can't wait to try more! Drinks: I got the hojicha latte. Was it the best I've had? No, but it wasn't bad. My friend got the date latte and it was a pretty standard latte. Considering they are a bakery, I'm not complaining about their drinks being average. Service: The lines right now are long but when I was there, it went by pretty quickly. After ordering, I really didn't need to wait very long for my order to be done which was great! I will note, it is a tight squeeze in the line and inside for those with strollers. I was anime to manage but it is not the most spacious cafe. Overall, I'm excited to return. read more

This new location is about a 1-hour round trip from my house, but the ham and cheese keeps calling, so I had to make the drive! I arrived around 9:30 AM, and the line wasn't too bad. I ordered 5 ham and cheese pastries, the maximum allowed per person. Honestly, I wanted more! The staff were friendly, and the bread was absolutely delicious and fresh. The baked goods and the breakfast items we got were delicious. The Cara cara almond croissant was at the top of our list! It was so delicious. My partner enjoyed the french toast and I enjoyed the breakfast sandwich. Would definitely go back for the breakfast sandwich. To drink, we got a hojicha latte with oat milk. It is a good for those who are new to the hojicha taste, but not for those who are experienced with it. I've had great hojicha lattes in SoCal and was disappointed with this one. Overall, the baked goods and breakfast items are definitely worth coming back for! Keep in mind that parking is in a residential neighborhood so parking may be hard to find initially. read more

Amazing little spot in a beautiful East Sac neighborhood. My girlfriend and I heard about it on Instagram and decided to check it out. We got 2 iced matchas with A ham and cheese suisse, with the banana and stawberry scone. Food 10/10 Service 10/10 very welcoming. Vibes off the charts. The staff are great. They're genuinely engaging which I appreciate. The pastries are delicious. I appreciate the consistency of the product provided. Especially for a new small business that has the demand they already do. Their following has been created of very years through pop up's and other related venues. The coffee well roasted and the baristas are some of the best in the area. They know how to pull shots and again provide consistent quality. It is what it is. It's not what's it's not meant to be. Overly sugar saturated, absent flavor, sweet beyond recognition. It's not Starbucks. It's an experience. If you want a fast food pastry and coffee experience this might not be your happy place. If you don't mind a short wait for a quality product, parties and coffee, I highly recommend. The owners know what they're doing. This is a GEM. love love love this pastry. I went to their pop up at Offbeat! There's usually a line, and they sell out fast! I got there around 9 and there was a wait. Turns out, that wait was for Offbeat's drinks, so I probably needed to just pop into the other line. Anyway, I liked a lot of the pastries. I would say the ham and cheese croissant was a bit on the saltier side, and the fig croissant was on the sweeter side. But the matcha cookie, miso cookie - those were standouts. Delicious, great quality and helpful cheerful service. We ordered a ham and cheese pain suisse, cherry pistachio almond croissant and an earl grey brownie. We got the food to go and were able to stand and eat outside and enjoy the weather. The pain suisse was delicious and crispy on the outside, but we made the error of not asking for it to be heated up. Regardless it was super yummy and can only imagine how heated would have been 5 stars. The croissant was perfection and closest to French quality we have had in Sacramento. Honestly the cherry filling was so fresh tasting its equal quality as Ginger Elizabeth jams. I wish I could rave about the brownie, but it was dryer than expected but appreciated the tea flavor. Usually a yuzu and another seasonal fruit comprise the better known "mini brioche donut duo". These almost always get sold old first. Oh yeah, sold out, yeah they are currently a popup only.
