Went to Druthers to grab coffee to go with pastries from Pastry Cat. While it is a cool spot with great outdoor seating, we were dissatisfied with our drinks. My husband got an iced brown sugar latte. It was way too sweet and the syrup had an odd taste, almost chemically? I got the coconut cold brew. It was just okay. I liked the coconut cold foam but the toasted coconut on top gave it a strange texture. Next time, I'd do without it. Looking back, I should have just gotten our drinks at Pastry Cat as well. read more

I was excited to see Druthers when I was browsing around to see the cafes and coffee shops around my neighborhood. My boyfriend and I decided to walk our pup on Sunday morning! It's located in the Sutter Park neighborhood which is a little hidden, but it makes it a great quiet neighborhood! I love how there's outdoor seating so you can bring your pup and people watch while eating/drinking your goodies. We got two breakfast sandwiches, one with bacon and one with sausage. For coffee, we got the Drunthers House Coffee and Coffee Cake Latte. The breakfast sandwiches are definitely filing and will keep you full. It's on the heavy side so you'll want to take a nap after! We both liked the sausage better out of the two. The coffee was meh. We couldn't really taste the flavors and just a personal preference, but not the biggest fan of acidic coffees. Overall, really cute place and love that it's in a neighborhood giving that neighborhood cafe vibe. Things are a little more pricy here for what you get so that's something to consider! read more

I finally checked out Druthers Coffee Shop and I am already planning my next visit I ordered the Crocodile Pear savory breakfast waffle and the Rose coffee, and both were just as beautiful as they were delicious. The waffle was perfectly balanced, crispy and savory, topped with fresh avocado, thin radish slices, and pickled onions! WHICH I AM NOW OBSESSED WITH! That added the perfect pop of flavor. And the Rose coffee was a not only beautiful but rich in flavor. It was smooth, lightly floral, and finished with the prettiest latte art that made it almost too pretty to drink. You can tell the barista's are very passionate about their drinks. The atmosphere, and service was wonderful. If you are looking for a spot that delivers both aesthetics and quality, this is it. My family wanted to like this place because it's right next to a gated kids park!! But the reality is the coffee drinks are mediocre or maybe the baristas are inconsistent. But our drinks tasted like milk more than any coffee. Breakfast sandwich bread was good and they use real full strips of bacon, and real egg. The prices at this place are steep though (16$ for breakfast sandwich??!) - in my opinion not worth what you get. Small, quiet patio space too (not much room inside - just enough to turn around which is what we should have done). Also, if you have kids this place is not a welcoming space for families. You will be starred at for existing! We won't be back and do not recommend. read more

Cute lil spot. Seems like they have lot regulars so it gave off a like local warm atmosphere. The design is minimalist mixed with modern. Loved bright pops of colors and cute knick knacks/trinkets! The coffee was great and loved the unique options they had. The sandwich was FIRE !! The cheese blend is made in house with a slight kick to it and all ingredients on the sandwich are sourced locally! Owner is super chill and friendly, told me a lil about the business and made relaxed conversation with customers coming in. Cute little spot! Not much seating and very very tiny. The coffee was great! Not too sweet but that okay with me, it's how I like my coffee. The sausage in the sausage breakfast sandwich is made from scratch with really surprised me and it was delicious! It was very filling and little too heavy though. Now the turkey pesto was the star of the show!! The bread was perfect, the flavor was perfect it was AMAZING. Now the only con is the pricing. The one latte and breakfast sandwich came out of 25$! That to me is doing a little too much. I don't think it was complete 25$ worth but it also wasn't bad I think the sandwich should have been MAX 11$. Even that's pushing it though. The barista or whoever was working on as alright. He wasn't super welcoming but he also wasn't rude or cold. Just kinda there. Some regulars came in afterwards and he was having great conversation with them and was more lively. Overall not a bad experience. Went on a Saturday morning, ordered house coffee (with chicory and milk) , spiced cranberry latte, breakfast sandwich, and a waffle. Things on the menu seem to have a kind of "bayou" theme. The "fruit and cream" waffle on the menu includes bananas, sunbutter, honey and whipped honey but we were informed that had just changed to orange marmalade and whipped cream, but for the same price--$14, compared to $7 for a plain one. That seemed a bit steep of a markup. I opted for the plain waffle. My wife orders the sausage breakfast sandwich that includes egg and pimento cheese on a brioche bun. The waffle is about 5" in diameter, and served in a pastry bag, but was very good, though too insubstantial for $7. The breakfast sandwich also a bit so disappointing: flavors were fine, but it was barely warm, and could have used some crunch or acid (arugula or pickled onions would have gone a long way) Chicory made the house coffee good. The cranberry latte was really interesting and pretty, but something (the acidity? The cranberry powered) caused the foam to become clumpy. I didn't mind that texture but could see that others might find the texture off-puttting. The interior is small but cute. We ate outside on the patio, which is lovely. I think a warm sandwich and a lower price point on the waffle would have put this closer to 5 stars. read more

This spot in is a gem. It's tucked into the neighborhood surrounding Sutter Park. If you're not looking for it you're not going to stumble onto it. But it's worth a visit. The owner keeps the offerings simple by design, but the ingredients / small details they pay attention to are what set them apart. Waffles, breakfast sandwiches, and coffee... their coffee is delicious. I travel often, snd enjoy local coffee shops. Just a personal preference but I more often enjoy less, like a macchiato or cortado. No flavors. Sometimes a little sweetener. However. I tried Druthers latte on Thanksgiving morning, it was complimented with a small amount of a seasonal squash they've been using with their breakfast offerings and I was blown away. I don't prefer super sweet, added flavors. This was neither. It was just a hint of flavor, and just enough sweetness, and the coffee was good. I later tried their chicory sweetened latte and it was delicious. They also have sweet tea in the summer. Takes me back to my childhood in Virginia. They also have a barista that is very good at her craft. I tried a cappuccino this morning with a little chicory. Delicious. They won't have every flavor or every drink some coffee spots may offer. That's not their focus. Smaller menu with the offering they have being spot on. Highly recommend. I will repeat. read more

The space itself isn't very big, and the bathroom is located in the back of the store, but there is outdoor seating, which is a cool touch. What truly made this place amazing, though, was the people -- everyone there was incredibly kind and welcoming. Pulling up to this spot it felt a bit uncanny being in such a clean and modern residential area lol didn't know an area like this existed near downtown Sac! Anyway, I'm a fan of the sweet potato waffles here. Super crispy with a light interior. Rather filling too (I could eat only 3/4 of a waffle before tapping out). I'd say the plain one is a great safe choice. The mandarins & cream one is quite tasty especially with the mint but is a little too heavy on the slivers of mandarin skin. As for the coffee cake one, the cream cheese is a bit dense and could've been sweetened slightly (pretty much tastes like straight cream cheese). Nice and fruity-smooth cold brew here. Hard to recommend the mocha since it tastes watered down. Very friendly staff. Not too difficult to find street parking right in front of this place but can drive further down the street to find ample neighborhood parking. read more

To keep this skirt and sweet, Druthers is a new essential in my cafe Rolodex! About the food: the waffles are all gluten free, so one can get creative. During this first visit, my party and I ordered the BLT Waffle and the Seasonal Fruit Waffle. What could've been a hiccup, kitchen staff let us know they were out of BLT ingredients, so they suggested adjustments to the first order. I have been following Druthers for a while, and finally got a chance to try it out. I am a cofre and waffle fanatic- so my hopes were high. I tried the orange mocha and the alligator pear waffle. Typically flavored coffees are made with flavored syrups- but this was made with orange juice. I liked that it wasn't as sweet, but the acidity of the coffee and juice together made for a bit of an odd flavor. For the waffle - my friend got a sweet one with whipped cream and really liked it. I enjoyed the texture- very similar to traditional Belgian waffle. But it wasn't very flavorful, and the avocado wasn't very seasoned, so it was kind of bland. Great service- very small seating area. I would like to come back and try their supper menu, but I'm not won over by this visit. read more

When "coffee & waffles" are what this place is all about, then I'm immediately sold. This takes me on a trip to East Sacramento where I had the opportunity in trying out "Druthers Sutter Park". This is located in a new subdivision of East Sac called the Sutter Park neighborhood where there are a ton of new trendy and upscale homes that got built from 2020-2022. And with that includes a park as well as three businesses; "Poppy by Mama Kim", "Mad Dog Market", and this one that I am reviewing, "Druthers Sutter Park". Located directly on 53rd St. (and in between E and F St's), I was amazed to see how much new development got built up in a small timeframe. Druthers opened their doors for business in March 2023 and I ended up coming here during the morning of Sunday 7/23/2023 at around 11:25pm. I have got to say that this is a very quiet spot of town; almost to the point where you can hear a pin drop. Parking by the business was fairly easy as these were the only 3 businesses in this area (the other 2 were closed that day) so I was able to park directly in front. The exterior area has a very nice seating area complete with upscale wooden chairs and a matching table area that flows throughout. A large white umbrella can shield out the direct sunlight which is great for the hot summer days. The interior has a very cozy and colorful look to it. Here you will witness aquamarine (on one side) and teal (on the other side) colored walls complete with small pattered throw pillows, a small menu board, and a condiment area including self-serve water, stir-sticks, napkins, straws, and packets of creamer/sweetener. I also loved the modern wooden floors with help brighten up the place. It is small though and really only can fit about 6-8 guests total. I ended up ordering their "Iced Druthers House Coffee" (which includes chicory syrup & cream) as well as their "Berries & Cream Waffle". All of the beans they use are from a major well-known Sacramento roastery, Camellia Coffee Roasters. The waffles are sweet potato based which is a neat idea. My coffee was ready in just a few minutes while my waffle was brought to me just a couple minutes later. The house coffee was absolutely delicious and refreshing while not being overbearingly sweet even with the syrup & cream. The waffle was on a whole other level delicious. This too was not overpowering in sweetness while the waffle had a light, airy texture to it. Overall, "Druthers Coffee & Waffles" is an excellent small business that I highly recommend. Both ladies that worked behind the counter were friendly, hospitable, and gave me excellent customer service. Best of all, they are opened for business 7 days a week from 7am-2pm. With that said and done, I am giving them a well-deserved five star Yelp review. read more

They are Sweet Potato Waffles from the owners recipe. Delicious. Vegan, which is so nice to have. They have many Dairy Free Options also and All that I have tried are Excellent. I've been ordering his sandwiches lately for lunch, he smokes his own turkey and slices it... Wow! Tasty. The BLT is another winner, fries the bacon on his grills outside the shop and must source them from a specialty shop, and the fruit is all Local. First heard about Druthers on IG and I have had them on my radar since then. I wanted to try out both their coffee & sweet potato waffles. Even though I was iffy on the type of coffee I wanted, the waffles were my selling point. They have plain, peaches & cream, and coffee cake waffles. I was sold on the coffee cake waffles as soon as I was introduced to it by the cashier. Also, the best way to get to know a coffee shop is their house coffee. The Druthers House Coffee consists of chicory syrup + cream and is available hot or iced. Of course they do have other renditions such as drip, latte, mocha, Americano, cold brew, espresso, and cappuccino. There are limited non coffee options such as chai latte & dirty chai, black/green/rooibos tea. They also have kid options as well. Something for everyone! Their waffles are sweet potato waffles that are gluten free. The plain waffle is vegan + gluten free only. Waffles are naturally sweet and I highly recommend the coffee cake waffle. Topped with cream + cinnamon. If you are unable to eat dairy, try the plain. I took a chance and this one didn't make my stomach do any hurdles so it wasn't that heavy in the dairy department. It's still very good and got me wanting to come back to try their other waffles! They are only open weekends. There's a few tables inside to sit, eat or enjoy your morning. They also have tables outside. Everyone there is so welcoming & kind! It is street parking and if you come early, there's plenty. So happy I got to check out this gem of a place and if you live in this neighborhood, it is walking distance. What a great way to start your weekend mornings! read more

We were looking for a new coffee spot that neither of us had ever tried before and stumbled upon this one. Located in the new building development at Sutter Park, it is a little tucked away from the main stream. The café itself is quite small, but we got our coffee order to-go. The service was kind and our drinks came out fast. My husband decided to try the house coffee which was made with chicory syrup and cream. I decided to try their spiced caramel latte with oat milk. We both agreed that both beverages were absolutely delicious and you can tell they use a high-quality coffee bean. I definitely would order the house coffee the next time I go because I am a big fan of chicory, and my husband's drink was delicious. We did not partake in any of their waffles, however, they did look delicious.
