My first time here and a friend recommended I stop by. Here I am and they have so many different variety of donuts. Tasted fresh and like a real donut! Service is friendly and quick.
After hearing so much buzz about Marie's Donuts, I finally made my way over on a weekday. The service is quick, the variety is impressive, and the prices are almost unbelievably good. I grabbed a maple bar, a strawberry crème donut, and a dozen donut holes for $6 even. Yes, six dollars!! As someone who considers the classic maple bar the gold standard of all donuts, I can confidently say Marie's Donuts nailed it. It was light, airy, and perfectly sweet without being over the top. The strawberry crème donut was a pleasant surprise too. I'm usually not a filled donut person, but the balance here was spot on. Just the right amount of filling, not too sweet. The donut holes were the one minor miss as it was a little dense and heavy compared to what I was hoping for. I'd probably ask next time if they're fresh out of the fryer before ordering. Overall, Marie's Donuts is a perfect place to grab a sweet treat!
Some say, the best donuts in Sac. I tend to agree, though my family sometimes is more in the mood for some KK. My three favs: 1. Blueberry Cake 2. Glazed Twist 3. Maple bar Walk up and get yours on a nice day and enjoy it!
Been coming here for the best donuts in Sacramento ever since my accounting professor at Sac City mentioned Marie's Donuts and how she would love to run a business as successful as Marie's (that was 10+ years ago). A small building with large windows and seafoam colored exterior makes it hard to miss in the Land Park area. I would walk a mile from the college for these donuts to kill time in between classes. It was well worth the steps I put in! I personally love the whipped cream donut. It's my fave so I always order it. Creamy whipped topping inside a glazed donut. I'm drooling. The combination of the whipped cream and donut just go together naturally. I also can recommend their non-glazed donuts and donut holes. And you can't go wrong with the chocolate dip. They have a wide variety of fresh, delicious donuts to choose from. Just walk up to the window, point to the donuts you want and the staff will help you out. There isn't any seating at Marie's, so most people only spend a few minutes at the window, or in one of the parking spaces devouring donuts (I'm guilty). Yup, those donuts aren't going to make it home unless you have practiced self-control. It's one of those unique, iconic places in Sacramento, so whether you're a local or a visitor, it's a place you must go to for fresh, delicious and reasonably priced donuts.
I've been to Marie's Donuts many time; it's fresh, not overly sugary, and the best it's going to get in the Sacramento area. They're always cooking something up so it just matters how long you want to wait for your favorites. What makes them stand out is that they're open way later or earlier than many other donut shops. They have all the traditional varieties to choose from but don't expect the new fad to be here. Parking could be a hassle depending on the time but I'm usually there late at night or early morning so I never have a problem. The prices are very reasonable too.
Today was a 5 star day. The usual beautiful smiles from the staff, the perfect abundant selection of donuts and parking was available in the Uber tiny lot. Just got there at the right time! Apple fritter, pink sprinkled donut and a glazed old fashioned less than $6!!! WIN!!!!
A Sac Town Staple! This walk up donut shop has been around for ages. They focus on the basics: quality and the classics. Our faves: old fashioned, sprinkles, and apples fritters. *to note: there is no indoor seating. This is a walk up window only. There is some, but limited parking. But luckily, it turns over pretty quickly as people tend to grab and go.
Cute little donut shop! I love this donut spot! They are so friendly and nice. The donuts are always fresh and warm. They melt in your mouth. I don't come here as often as I would like because it's a treat for me (I don't eat a lot of sweets) when I do. I probably come here once a month. Cinnamon rolls are my favorite as well as the donut holes. My husband loves the chocolate bar and the Apple fritter and our daughter loves the maple bar and the blueberry donut. The lines are usually long but they go by so quick. So worth the wait.
I tried the apple fritter and the chocolate bar. Wow, they are hands down the best apple fritter and chocolate bar I've had, and I've had the best from the Amish. The apple fritter had a harden glazed exterior and it paired perfectly with the soft and airy interior. I was hesitant to trying the chocolate bar because I've had dense ones before, but wow the dough was so soft and light I inhaled it pretty quick. Definitely recommend that two. 10/10.
This is a landmark store. It has been around for so long. I think 1950's The staff here are very friendly. You can see them making the donuts early in the morning. When I crave a donut late at night or early morning this is the place to go. They make them in order and I think around 2:30 AM is when my French donuts are made. It's the one that is all twisty in a circle. There is no place to eat here. It's just a building housing there shop and you eat it on the go. Love their apple fritters
This was my go-to spot for a long time, what seems like since I was a kid out here. But, recently I've noticed that the quality isn't the same or that the donuts taste very dry, for example with this donut I bought today (photo attached) the custard was very light and not at all filled. I worked at a donut shop in Sacramento prior so I know how everything is made, but the donuts lately since I've gone the past few times are just dry, apple fritter is not full of fresh apple or cinnamon but rather just fried-oily not so goodness - if you just want something fried then sure, but otherwise it leaves a lot to be desired. A phenomenal apple fritter is at Mr. t's but it's all the way in Modesto. That being said I got to find the next best spot in Sacramento, aside from that they're pretty strict now I was short like 10 cents with some cash I had and they were adamant on paying the entirety of the order - which is fine but this has to be one of the only donut shops I've gone to anywhere in Cali where they're not going to just let the ten cents go for the sale. What once was my favorite spot out here has fallen at least to me, I will say if you're lucky enough to catch them making it fresh - then sure it's much better but everytime I would go it would inconsistent or they wouldn't have what I was wanting to order.

This review is strictly for the owners of Marie's Donuts I wanna say from the bottom of my heart I love the work, effort, creativity & dedication that you put into this stuff you bake. I wanna say thank you for supplying me with some of the best donuts I've had & only willingly to get. I live in the fresno area & I willingly make the drive to just get a dozen. Quality, consistency & flavor are the reason I love the people who make these amazing pastries. I came this time around for a dozen & I haven't had a donut from here since 2023 because I moved to Texas. Shoutout to the beautiful young lady who made my dozen for me Friday. Closing this review by saying you're family/team are doing a sensational job. I found out not too long ago that Marie's is a staple donut shop in the Sacramento area. Decided to finally give them a try. Limited parking in their parking lot but street parking is available as well. Only take outs. Order at the window. I came on a weekday around 11am and they were sold out except for 4 apple squares. I was bummed as I have a list of donuts I would like to try. I grabbed an apple square. The girl helping me was really sweet and nice. The apple square was really good. Soft, fluffy, had a good emount of apple pieces and sauce. A huge and filling donut. Can't wait to come back next time to try other donuts. read more

Stopped by around 2am and they were still making a lot of the donuts, so there were limited options. What I tried: Buttermilk bar (10/5) -- tangy, moist, sweet, tender inside and slightly crisp outside. Would come back just for this Blueberry glazed (4/5) -- on the breadier side for a donut, blueberry flavor really comes through and overall is not sweet Interested in trying more, love the late night hours and how staff repeat your order back to you as confirmation. read more

I don't know what magical angel came up with the recipe for these donuts but they're the fluffiest, stickiest, delicious bites of sugary dough I have ever eaten. I must admit I went originally for the cream filled one, however, I knew my boyfriend would love these and grabbed a few more for him to try, as he doesn't live anywhere near downtown! I'm a lover of donuts, some in my life may say obsessed!! These are hands down my fave in Sacramento, and the cream filled one, wow! I could probably eat 5 in one sitting! read more
Super fast service and the lady was very sweet. Minimum for card payments is $5 but I mean that got me two donuts and a BUNCH of donut holes, so you def get your moneys worth. Love that you can see all the donuts from outside and that it's just a lil window you order from. Makes it standout in comparison to other places in the city. Also all my friends rave about this place and the flavors. We've never had a bad one. The mural is super cute and colorful. Highly recommend for your donut fixes! read more

We finally made it back! Who has the best donuts..especially late at night???? Marie's of course. Donuts are always the best but to get them fresh! Yum!!!!! It's a little hole in the wall that's been around for ages! Trust me, you'll never be disappointed! They are so old school that they even have the old antique register from back in the day. I'm not a donut fan but I do like a good apple fritter. I was in the area. It wasn't busy so I got a fritter. Huge, ate half now and half later. I only like them from apple hill and here. A small parking area. Lots of donut choices at a good price. read more
I'm not the biggest fan of donuts usually and might have 1-2 a year. I haven't been to Marie's in years but while driving 2 friends home at 1am one requested we stop to get fresh donuts. She ordered a dozen and the staff member helped with making the best selection, and was friendly and patient. We added a couple blueberry muffins as well. Everything came packaged nicely in a box and the staff member was nice enough to wrap the muffins individually for ultimate freshness. He offered a paper bag on the side so I could separate my donuts. This was a mistake as as soon as I touched the Buttermilk donut bar and realized it was warm I could not resist taking a bite immediately. It was heaven. Needless to say it did not make the drive to my house lol. Marie's is definitely a Sacramento gem, go get you some fresh donuts. read more

Nothing more than a wooden walk-up on Freeport Boulevard Marie's Donuts nonetheless remains Sacramento's premier Donut Shop, simple fried Dough made the same way since the 50's still drawing crowds while So.Cal lines up for $6 hand-cut rings at places like Sidecar. Still family-run at 70 years old, low-prices adding to its novelty, guests are greeted with a smile by staff from 10pm until 4pm with fresh options made to replenish supply of in-demand items like simple raised and glazed or Bismarks filled with Custard. Cash or Credit over $5, the Coffee hot but no better than Folgers, Marie's selection ranges from Cake to Fritters and Crullers, the later a bit less airy than they ought to be but Old Fashioned Cogwheels faultless beneath Maple Icing slightly penetrating as a result of being added while still hot. read more

Stopped by Marie's looking for a coffee donut or cinnamon roll, but they had a limited selection. It was a walk-up building, order-at-the-window kind of place. We chose a few items and took them home. The staff was nice but not everyone understood "coffee donut" nor "cinnamon roll". We got a cinnamon twist and an apple fritter. Tasted just like every other donut shop pastries. read more
Marie's is my go-to donut shop because they are open early in the day, early afternoon, and late night. Whenever I get donuts for my class, they put together a "mix dozen" and my students love it. They are constantly baking so the donuts are so fresh. read more

yes - this place makes very fresh tasting donuts. hands down. One of the best donut places in Sac. i also understand that the original Marie's donuts is located on Watt ave in North Highlands. So this location is their second establishment. Gotta try the original location soon. read more
We visited after our lunch nearby because the donuts looked scrumptious from afar. Even at 1:30pm, they still had lots of selections available. The donuts were fluffy and soft. - custard: it was creamy and had perfect sweetness - raspberry donut: The raspberry jam was plenty and very good (not too sweet with a little tartness). read more

Tuesday around 10am. Maybe I came at the wrong time or didn't order the right thing. I'm not understanding the hype besides it being 24hrs. There are many better donut shops in Sacramento. I ordered what I was craving at the time which was French krueller, apple bear claw, Apple square (new to me). I wanted to get something I normally don't get just to test the quality and flavor. D+K off Northgate has the best French krueller. Literally melts in your mouth and airy. I would say their apple square here was decent. I didn't bother with their bear claw since I was so underwhelmed. Nice location and nostalgic feels, across from chocolate fish coffee and near parks. That's a plus! read more

super tasty, soft, and not heavy donuts! very affordably priced as well. so many options to choose from but you can't go wrong with the glazed! i also appreciated that the filled donuts don't contain an overwhelming amount of filling, just the right amount. bring cash or expect to pay $5 for the card minimum. also i wish they labeled all the different kinds of donuts! this is also a walk-up place with limited parking but plenty of street parking nearby. friendly service and best place to get cheap, amazing donuts! read more

Charming and tasty! FOOD: You can always count on Marie's donuts to be consistently tasty. I am a glazed donut girl. They are always perfectly sweet, a little crispy on the top and soft in the middle! Each donut is a nice size as well. SERVICE: Everyone is always nice and quick. They do have a $5 minimum if you are paying with card. AMBIANCE: This is 100% a take out location. There is usually a small line that moves fast! KID FRIENDLY: Oh yes! The kids love donuts. However, be mindful of traffic if you are going to wait in line with your kids. The location is close to a busy street and you have to wait outside. OVERALL, will I be back? Oh yes, this is a Sacramento staple!! read more
My friends and I went to watch a movie down the road at the Tower Theater and it's tradition that we get donuts from Marie's donuts right after. It was my first time though and I was surprised to see a donut shop was open so late at night! Service was quick and the location made it so you would not miss it when you drive by. It's definitely the perfect spot for a quick late night sweet treat! read more

Yelp shows the hours from 11am to 4pm. Is this correct? I have never heard of a donut shop opening at 11am.
Just called them (916) 444-5245. Gentleman said they open daily at about 10 pm & are open overnight until 4 pm the next afternoon, or when Sold Out.
