Avocado Bulgogi, KBBQ Cauliflower Wings, Sesame Surprise
    Cher C.

Found this spot via Uber Eats and was surprised by the variety of vegetarian options. We went with the Korean BBQ Cauliflower wings, Avocado Bulgogi bowl and Sesame Surprise bowl. The bowls were assembled pretty neatly and portions were plentiful. The Avocado Bulgogi came with Impossible beef and it was very flavorful and quite tasty. This would probably be my go-to if ordering from Moonbowls again. The Sesame Surprise was quite a letdown though. This bowl came with tofu as the protein, but it was barely cooked and there was no flavor in the bowl. Either they forgot to add the sesame sauce, there was not enough sesame sauce, or the sesame sauce was way too bland. The KBBQ cauliflower wings were delicious, along with their vegan ranch dressing, but $12 felt a little pricy for the size of the app. I'd order again, but I'd be happier with a fuller take out container.

Order was ready to go right upon arrival! The guy who gave me my order was named Pierre, really cool guy with great customer service and just a good vibe! Will be coming back!

A hidden gem with great vegan and vegetarian options! The flavor combinations are fantastic. The avocado bulgogi bowl with impossible meat, kimchi, Fresno peppers and seasoned kale is insanely delicious. The location is just a storefront/kitchen offering takeout and delivery with contactless pickup. Already looking forward to ordering again!

Heard about this place and the reviews looked good so I placed a delivery order. Honestly, it arrived on time but for $22, it was a major disappointment. I am being kind. The concept of a healthy bowl with an eco-friendly recycled bowl sounds nice but when it arrives, it's cold, and not plentiful enough to call a full meal. There were only five pieces of cauliflower and the rest just lettuce and chili peppers. I ended up heating it up, which did something strange to the purple noodles making them gooey. Maybe there are better options on the menu but this won't be a repeat.

As a repeat customer of Moonbowls, I really just want them to be consistent. Their food, when prepared correctly, is amazing and unlike anything I've ever tasted, but the problem is every time I place an order it's a gamble. I've tried quite a few options on their menu, Seoul salad, Avocado Bulgogi, don't cauliflower it a comeback, and the cauliflower wings, and my faves that keep me coming back are the cauliflower wings and Avocado Bulgogi bowl. However, sometimes the wings are heavily battered and sauced, sometimes they're lightly battered and a little drier, sometimes the cauliflower is mushy, sometimes an item from the bowl is missing, and of course sometimes everything is perfect. But I honestly can't say I know which way is the way they intend to make the dishes, because they're different almost every time I order. Today I ordered just the cauliflower wings for lunch and they're lightly buttered and sauced this time, but the flavor was there so I didn't mind UNTIL I saw a pool of cooking oil about 2 bites in (picture attached). I seriously love the beautiful combination of flavors they put together to make the food taste amazing and that's what keeps me re-ordering, but I'm not sure how long it's worth gambling on each food order when the price of their bowls are not exactly cheap

Chicken so tough it doesn't cry at the end of The Notebook.

The most disappointing lunch I've had this month. The chicken was so dry and tough -- I'd venture so far as to call it leathered -- in a way that couldn't be saved by the delicious sauce or the beautiful presentation. In concept, Moonbowls sounds amazing. In practice, you get hard chicken with spices so bland they are distinctly non-Korean. Go elsewhere for lunch.

Avocado bulgogi bowl. Where's the avocado? SMH.

If you're looking for some weird Americanized "Korean food", then sure this place is fine. But if you're looking for something authentic then I say this is definitely NOT the place to go. The food was EXTREMELY salty. I was missing some items that were supposed to come with my bowl. I ordered an avocado bulgolgi bowl and yet there was no avocado. Okay? Odd. The food must have not been sanitary because 1 hour after eating the bowl I was in the bathroom for 30 mins. Let's just say I had to use the bathroom multiple times throughout the night. I know, TMI, but just giving my honest feedback. My wife also experienced the same experience. This is our first and last time that we'll be going here. No thanks. By the way, these bowls are way overpriced. Not worth it. Go to a real KBBQ and pay $20 for all you can eat.

Please bare with me as I'm sure this is the worst review I will ever leave on Yelp. Let me give you a little background before I describe the experience. It's around 730, I decide hmm why don't I order from Postmates. Right? Sounds like a great idea. Absolutely not. So I did my usual tidbit and researched places on Postmates with plant based options given that I don't eat meat. This place showed up. Fast forward I place my order and create a customizable bowl with cauliflower and assorted vegetables. I also use rice as my base. Mind you, again when I placed this order it was around 730. Once the order was placed it said ETA 8:53pm. Now I'm a little disappointed because I wasn't even sure I'd be hungry by then, but again why not support a business I've never eaten at! so I remained hopeful. Now it's 845, there's no indication of my Postmates driver moving and I'm getting a little nervous. I wondered if the place was even open and if Postmates made a mistake so I called. When I called the lady on the other end told me how "the kitchen got backed up" and "she could see my order it should be leaving in 2 minutes." Now it's 855 when my food is supposed to be here and it still hasn't left! so I message my Postmates driver like hey did you pick up the food? He said "no because everytime I call they say it's 1 minute from being done." So now I'm furious, hungry, and getting angsty. I call the restaurant and they aren't answering my calls now... I called 3 times I knew they were ignoring me. Finally I mean finally at 930... LITERALLY 930. My food gets to me. TWO HOURS AFTER I PLACED MY ORDER. So I'm okay now right? The food is here whatever just enjoy. WRONG AGAIN. They are so lucky I was paying attention to what I was putting in my mouth because they put CHICKEN in my food!!!! GUYS I AM VEGAN. So now I'm hungry, very disappointed and distrustful. I would give this place one star but I feel so bad for my Postmates driver who got sucked into the middle of this. Please err on the side of caution before ordering from this place. I will NEVER ever order from this place again. It is unorganized, unprofessional, not attentive to detail, and my food arrived cold. Save your money and try another business! Also side note... remember how i said I asked for rice? I got noodles. Now I may be ignorant of the menu and that's what they meant??? But on Postmates it says steamed brown rice. This is something to also be cautioned about!

I've only ordered one take-out bowl from this place, but they have really made a good impression on me! I was always hesitant to order here because it's a bit pricey for a make-your-own-bowl concept. I got the Avocado Bulgogi, which was really flavorful and filled with guiltless bites. It's still a bit out of my price range for a quick lunch, but if you have the resources and motivation to support a vegan-friendly small business, you'll be happy to know that this place doesn't slack when it comes to flavor, originality, and freshness. With this restaurant, it's the small details that I really appreciate. I received a friendly voucher for a free bowl on my next order, and a letter addressing their increased efforts in their health and safety standards. You won't find ingredients this beautiful and delicious at Chipotle.

    Chicken kimchi bowl
    Caroline Y.

Had not heard of this place but ordered from Uber Eats because of a BOGO promotion for some of their bowls. I ordered the chicken and kimchi bowl and overall was pleased. Food arrived in a perfectly reasonable amount of time (saw some reviews citing a pretty long wait). Portion was on the smaller side, but bowl was yummy and tasted clean.

Chicken and Egg and a Build Your Own Bowl

I paid $8 to get this food delivered - that is how much I love the food! From fresh ingredients to delicious flavor combinations, you truly can't go wrong here. I discovered this place on accident one night through Caviar and have been obsessed ever since. The sesame surprise bowl is my ultimate favorite. I am a huge stan of sesame in general, and moonbowls did if right. My mom and I have tried almost every singe bowl combo and ever played around with our own creations. You really cannot go wrong with any of them. The avocado bulgogi is also a house favorite but the chicken and egg is also super flavorful. With 5 bases to choose from - brown rice and the purple potato noodles (worth the extra $2) I recommend getting. Building your own bowl is greats alternative to getting creative or if you're someone like me who had ordered 12 times from here now and you now know exactly what you like.... My only criticism is the baked chicken - just gets kind of soggy in the bowl is all. I highly recommend adding the flash fried cauliflower to ANY bowl bc it's AMAZING! I wish I could eat it every day. I recommend this place to my friends 10 times over when they ask about the best takeout places in the city during this time. You have to have to have to try this place!

I ordered a custom bowl off Yelp. It took a long time to be delivered but I don't think that was moonbowl's fault. A few of my ingredients were left off (an extra sauce, garlic, and ginger) but the bowl was so good without these things that I didn't really mind. The food was very clean looking and tasting and I loved the flavors of the sauce that I did get and the bamboo rice. The arugula was very fresh, the seaweed was perfect, and these guys know how to cook sesame tofu. Sesame is one of my favorite flavors and this had just the right amount of sesame flavor. I will be coming here again in the future.

The headphone in my Build Your Own Moonbowl.

I really wanted to like this place, and have ordered from it several times because I live nearby. The food is good flavor-wise but inconsistent, my order has been incorrect before (something small but annoying, like forgetting a side that I paid extra for), often cold, and often takes far longer than predicted. Still, the promise of what it could be, convenience, and the occasional promo code has kept me going back. Tonight was probably the final straw, though. I ordered through Uber Eats to pick up on my way home. It said 10-20 minutes for pickup, and then I got a notification maybe five minutes later that it was ready for pickup. Sketchy, but fine. I was there maybe ten minutes later and was told (by the very nice, helpful man in the Kitchen United thing) that it actually wasn't ready yet and that somebody was working on it. Probably ten minutes later he handed it over. When I got home (truly a five minute walk later), I could tell it was cold when I took it out of the bag, so I know the issue wasn't that it was still being cooked. And I took the lid off to discover that someone in the kitchen's headphone had fallen into my bowl, so I will not be eating it anyway. Tried calling and got no answer.

I opted for the chicken kalamata dinner for the main event, which came with more french bread and a salad. The salad came out first, and it was pretty simple with minimal dressing. I wished there had been more variety in produce and something besides iceberg lettuce for greens. I'd recommend getting some feta on the side to add some flavor. The chicken, however, was absolutely outstanding. It was super tender, seasoned beautifully with za'atar, and brined in vinegar (I think). The za'atar seasoned french fries underneath were extra crispy and perfectly soaked up the extra sauce from the chicken. For the price, this place is a steal- you really can't beat the quantity and quality of food that you get. Overall, a great experience- I definitely recommend making a stop if you're in the area!

The pizza had cured pepperoni, hot honey, ricotta, basil, mozzarella, and marinara and was fantastic. I would come back just for this pizza. Nothing that completely blew me away, but definitely satisfying. If you're vegan or vegetarian and craving a classic burger experience, this is a great option. The smoothie was good as well, though I personally prefer fruit-forward smoothies with lighter juices, so the almond milk base wasn't quite my favorite, but it still complemented the meal nicely. Overall, if you're looking for a casual sit-down spot with a cute atmosphere and a solid Impossible burger at a reasonable price, Elephant + Vine is a great choice. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I stopped by on a Saturday around lunchtime and it wasn't too busy. There were some long benches and some regular tables, making for either a cute dine in spot or solid carryout option. My dining partner and I split the Bombay chulet- while a bit on the pricey side, it was definitely enough for two people and evened out. One bite into the sandwich, she said that this was the best one she'd ever had. It was hearty but no one ingredient overpowered another. The meat was very fresh and I absolutely loved the spicy fig chutney that gave the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The cheese was so creamy that it sort of melted in with the aioli, which was also very balanced well proportionally. However, the fried crunchy onion bits really took it over the top for an explosion of both taste and texture. We left very satisfied and already planning when we would make a return visit. I can't recommend this spot enough and will definitely be back soon!

The ingredients were matched well and I found myself interested the more I ate. I can imagine this place gets busy and although I was able to walk in and order, there was a healthy stream of customers coming in right after me mid afternoon. Food 5/5 - I'd come back to try more, there's even a water station! Ambiance 5/5 - cute shop and has indoor and outdoor seating Service 4/5 - our cashier seemed bored and bothered by taking my order. Maybe I caught her at the wrong time but it does make me think twice about coming back to this specific location.

From start to finish, even though we were in a bit of a hurry, everything was amazing. I went with the Prickly Pear drink, which was not only delicious but also such a fun photo moment. I love me a gorgeous drink! The Parmesan Truffle Fries were some of the best truffle fries I've had -- the perfect amount of flavor without being overpowering. I'm usually a little skeptical when it comes to ordering seafood, even local fish at restaurants, but I decided to go with the Crispy Baja Fish Tacos... and oh my goodness, they were SO good! Perfectly flaky, flavorful, and served piping hot. They were fantastic -- and the fact that I was still feeling great hours later was an absolute win for me! Our server, I believe her name was Stori, was wonderful. She knew from the beginning that we were in a bit of a rush and somehow made the evening feel relaxed and enjoyable while handling a busy restaurant with so much grace. So happy we decided to check this spot out while visiting Chicago! Beautiful atmosphere, delicious food, wonderful service... and COOKIES near the entrance?! Insane.

1 Star -- Great atmosphere, disappointing food and service…read more Summer House has clearly figured out how to create a beautiful, energetic Chicago brunch scene. Unfortunately, the food and service don't come close to matching the hype, and this was one of the more disappointing breakfasts I've had in the city. I ordered the three-egg breakfast with an English muffin, sausage and hash browns. I specifically requested the hash browns well done. What arrived were cold, rubbery, obviously pre-made hash browns that were among the worst I've ever been served. When I asked about making a substitution on one of the breakfast burritos, I was told it wasn't possible because the burritos are pre-made. That's a pretty significant red flag for a restaurant charging these prices and presenting itself as a quality brunch destination. The sausage was nothing special, although the English muffin--advertised as homemade--was perfectly fine. The bigger issue is that the meal felt assembled rather than cooked to order. Service wasn't much better. Drink service was slow enough that our server came around asking about refills literally as we were paying the check. To her credit, she did offer iced teas to go, which was a nice recovery. They also accommodated us when we arrived about 25 minutes early, and I appreciated that. I have also worked as a "secret shopper" for Lettuce Entertain You, so I know their service protocols. One of the things I was specifically trained to watch for was the proper checkback. The expectation isn't for a server to ask, "How's everything tasting?" The assumption is that the kitchen has already done its job and that the food is being served correctly. The appropriate checkback is essentially, "Can I bring you anything else?" This did not happen. That distinction matters. Asking "How's everything tasting?" immediately suggests that the server is checking on the quality of the food rather than following the service protocol. During my time as a "secret shopper," that would have been a clear indication that the server needed additional training. And in this case, considering the cold, rubbery hash browns and the pre-made nature of some of the food, perhaps the quality of the kitchen deserves some attention too. The bottom line: Summer House has a great atmosphere, but atmosphere isn't food. It feels like a place where the crowd is more interested in the room and the experience than whether the breakfast on the plate is actually good. You can get a substantially better breakfast at countless Chicago diners for less money, without the hype. Beautiful room. Busy scene. They did accommodate us early. But the food was poor, the drink service was disappointing, and the value simply isn't there.

And that's because the menus were being printed with a personalized birthday message! Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and struck the perfect balance of checking in without being overbearing. The mussels (provençal-style) were delicious and enough to share among three people. The truffle-parmesan fries: We couldn't tell if they were too salty or just salty enough, but somehow we couldn't stop eating them! I ordered the baby wedge salad with chicken, and while the chicken looked small at first, it ended up being a large enough portion to last the salad. We were also surprised with complimentary desserts: the Chocolate Chunk Cookie Skillet and Buck Russell's Cake. Though I'm not a sweet person, my dining companions thoroughly enjoyed them.

I came here with three others and we all ordered different things from the brunch menu along with a few drinks. The atmosphere here is open, modern, and pretty eye catching, we all heard a few negative comments about brunch here and rather than just taking words of advice we came anyways. To be honest we should've went elsewhere, the only thing about the food that actually seemed to have any flavor was the fries and even they were a little salty like my wallet when we left LOL The Jumbo (not so much) Lump Crab Benedict at $25 was honestly boring lacking any flavor also it didn't even come with potatoes I ended up sharing my Lincoln Park Turkey Club that was good but even it was pretty basic at $21, the Burger at $21 literally looked like something off the kids menu the bun was bigger than the patty LOL and the Blackened Chicken Caesar at $19 was more like an appetizer size and the chicken at least it was juicy not dry. Other reviews about brunch here seem to be about the same and honestly I think it's funny they don't even try to elevate their food when so many say about the same things. I think the only reason why people come to this place is 1. It's located in Lincoln Park and 2. that makes it a trendy spot to eat. So why bother fixing anything when it's just trendy and flavorless Their brunch is mediocre but apparently dinner is where it's at. However after the experience with brunch I'm not even sure I would even go back. Come here for the staff eat at your own expense maybe your food will have flavor or not but honestly do what you want and keep it trendy
