I tried the new Sol spice by ordering ahead online. Our orders are ready and waiting when I got there and for the price I would say it's definitely a good choice in Wicker Park. It's kind of like chipotle for Asian and I thought the flavors were pretty good. You got quite a bit of protein in your bowl so nothing mind blowing, but definitely recommend for a healthier option on a quick dinner. I built my own bowl with the chicken and the spicy pork. The pork definitely was not the best cut, but the flavor was good and all the flavors on the veggies were good too. I don't think the bowl really needed the sauces because there was kind of sauces on everything else already so I would definitely get them on the side.

I could taste that they were handmade and very flavorful. Second was the charcoal half chicken. The coconut rice was had a light coconut flavor which was good bc it didnt alter the taste of the chicken. I'd skip on the salad and minced beef noodles next time. The noodles were a lil too thick n chewy for me. Salad was nothings special, just eating large chunks of cabbage. The Sparrow Mallorc was also really good and refreshing, not overly sweet. The egg tarts had a creamy delicious custard and the dough was fluffy like a croissant, not crisp like pie. I prefer crisp but would still recommend. I also got the chai carrot cake which is really good. The chai spice compliments the sweetness well and walnut chunks add nice texture . I want to try all their desserts at Bird Bird Bakery bc the flavors are so unique and actually really good, unlike other bakeries that try to use interesting flavors but make it overly sweet. The staff were chill and kind. Pretty laid back, you have to get your own utensils and water. I do love that they have their own hot sauces. The brown one with tamarind was my favorite. Nice decos, not overly showy or fancy. Still family friendly n chill. The bench had nice comfy cushions.

The potato chips the dip came with were massive, fantastic, ruffle cut slices. Dip was good, trout roe ($18) gave it that extra pop of flavor. Our favorite dish of the night was definitely the beef tongue, so tender and balanced with textures and acidity. Mains were: Pappardelle (mushroom and carrot ragu) - I liked this best out of the three pastas, pasta was very tender. Cappelletti (beef, celery root fonduta) - felt a little under al dente in the sections where it was pasta pressed against pasta. The beef filling was on the average side, a simple, braised beef. Strozzapreti (duck bolognese + parm reggiano) - pasta was cooked perfectly, but the sauce leaned salty. Our half chicken arrived once we were finishing the pastas. Juicy and tender, with the fat/skin rendered out nicely. The sauce was good, but felt the chicken itself was lacking seasoning/flavor. The remaining duck ragu came in handy for extra saltiness. Finished the meal with the terrazzo cheesecake, and gelato scoop trio (roasted vanilla, peanut butter cookie dough brownie, and frutti di bosco sorbet). Cheesecake was light and wiggly, definitely contained some gelatin and cubes of strawberry jello; not too sweet. I enjoyed the peanut butter gelato the most, was very tasty mixed with the sorbet to make a little pb and j concoction. They also gave a little slice of chocolate cake as we were there for a celebration. Overall, appetizers were a hit, with the dessert coming in second, and entrees following thereafter. Was ~$240 w the included 25% service fee between 3 people. The food feels like 3.5 stars as the food was inconsistently good across courses, but the service/ambiance pushes it to a 4. Worth a try if you can get a reservation.

Cheers for me, guys. And now that I've been, I just want to come back. That food is good. So, so very good.... Vegan options galore, and not just some bullshit afterthoughts. The sweet potato soup with garlic was a great starter, especially with that perfectly thick bread. The "Tineka," a spicy peanut butter sandwich with all kinds of fresh veg, was another hit. Fresh, salty, beautifully toasted. Even the side of slaw was elevated beyond the norm. But the one I'll be dreaming of is the Chickpea & Fennel Tagine. Green harissa, golden raisins, preserved lemon, arugula, and more of that amazing grilled bread. My god. Tagine is a slow-cooked African dish that jams pounds of flavor into each bite, and this bowl was through the roof. The apertif menu? Bonus points for that one. It's cute, it's trendy, the staff knows their menu inside and out, and they have been bringing the culinary heat for nearly three decades. Keep doing your thing, Lula.

The server made sure to modify everything to be GF and had the potatoes cooked in a separate pan to avoid cross contamination. We also had the GF almond cake. When the staff brought the food, they even acknowledged it was GF before serving. The food and service were fantastic! Really appreciate how knowledgeable and accommodating the staff was. Baked clams and the jalapeño biscuit were delicious. My personal favorite was the SORTALINI -- "sort of tortellini" cheese-filled pasta rings. What I saw coming out was underdone and burnt. What was coming out was mediocre, undercooked and not worth waiting 30-40 minutes in the hot sun. The truck itself was...a mess. Old, didn't look super clean and everything seemed to be running on a single burner camper type stove. The big negative was the service. The truck was well over two hours late, wasn't ready when they arrived and over the course of an hour and a half, they must have taken 3 smoke breaks. Look, it's hot out so it's gotta be a literal oven in that little truck. But with a three person crew, maybe take breaks in stages so the line keeps moving. Food itself was nothing special. All of it was stuff from Costco (Idahoan hash browns, frozen sausage patties, liquid egg, etc.) heated up so I'm not sure what the slow in service was but I wouldn't recommend them again.
