The happy hour is great! I sat at the bar and got a $5 blue razz sour craft beer that was delicious! The dessert selection was enticing, so I went with the pre-selected dessert trio which had a mini raspberry pistachio tart (raspberries & strawberries, pistachio custard, toasted pistachios--I thought it was just okay. I LOVE pistachio and raspberry so I was a little disappointed because it tasted eggy), a mini key lime pie (it was good but the meringue was a bit eggy), and a basque cheesecake slice (caramelized custard cheesecake, fresh berries, vanilla bean whip--I'm not even a big cheesecake person but this was DELICIOUS! So creamy and the whipped cream and berries were perfect). I'll definitely be coming back to try the food and more beer, but I likely won't order dessert again unless it's the cheesecake.
Really busy restaurant but it was worth the wait. We were a party of 4 and waited around 40 mins for a table on a weekday. The pizza was more like a flatbread and was not what I was expecting. I wouldn't order it again. Our server was nice and attentive. We did get the key lime pie from there and it was our favorite of our trip.
Came in on a Monday and figured it was our best chance of getting a shorter wait time. Had to see what the crowds came for. Love they have gluten free options. The spicy club sandwich was delicious with a generous portion. We split it and were full. But, had to at least get one dessert. The island cake was a light summer treat. Indoor and outdoor seating worked out well on a hot day.
We were told to make sure and eat Key Lime pie while at Key West. Let me tell you that this Key Lime piece was made to perfection! It literally melted in your mouth from the merengue top to the crust and everything in between. Moondog Key Lime Pie is delicious!! We got lucky and got there at Happy Hour and had some amazing beers and appetizers. Our server was also great, everyone was great and helpful. Moondog Cafe was the best!!
Worth every minute of the wait. Moondog is situated nearby Hemingway house and a perfect stop before or after your tour. There js indoor and outdoor seating available, outdoor seating is shaded and surrounded by greenery. The food is amazing!!! Our only regret is not being able to try more dishes. We shall have to come back one day for more.
We waited about 30 minutes to be seated, but the bartender/server was friendly and provided great service throughout our visit. The pastries were excellent, especially the Danish. The Key lime pie wasn't my favorite was a bit too rich for me, the crust was overbaked, and it wasn't something you could easily enjoy while walking around in the Key West heat. The burgers were also disappointing, as they lacked seasoning, and even my friends weren't impressed with the veggie burger. Overall, I'd come back for the pastries and the service, but probably skip the burgers.
We came here on a Sunday morning with a large group and had a bit of a wait. We got seated about 25 minutes after putting our name down. The food was worth it though! I got the moondog classic with a side of fruit. We also shared the bourbon bacon blackberry French toast, which was a nice sweet treat. Service was pretty quick and cute place overall!
We came here on vacation and were told this restaurant was a must try! Even though it's not pictured, we had the mahi tacos, shrimp tacos and chicken potstickers. They all were pretty good but nothing stood out. The star of the show that is pictured is their infamous Key Lime Pie. This pie was a hefty slice ($13) and more than enough to share. The meringue was toasted perfectly, the filling had a delicious tartness to it but the crust was so hard! We could barely cut the bottom of the pie because this crust was so hard. Eventually, we just ate the filling and meringue without the crust due to the hassle. I wasn't as amazed as I expected to be from the praises this restaurant gets but I would be willing to try again. The food came out very quickly and the customer service was great!
My friends and I shared shrimp & grits, seafood pizza, bacon croissant pastry & a slice of key lime pie. The shrimp & grits were delicious and out of the 5 key lime pies we had this one was the best key lime pie. The idea of the seafood pizza was good, but we didn't like the pizza dough used. It tasted like cardboard to me. The pastry look good too, but it was just ok. I would come back for the shrimp & grits and key lime pies.
The place is super cute! The food was amazingly delicious! The service top notch! Ordered a mango matcha latte (too delicious I forgot to take a picture), a must order if you are a matcha lover . Then ordered the ahi tuna poke (I remembered to take a pic this time) as an appetizer and it was amazingly delicious & refreshing! For our main breakfast items, which I sadly forgot to take pics of, we ordered the avocado & veggie salad (my dish) it is very refreshing, I loved everything on it, just the kale & salad ratio was a little off but no biggie as it was super filling still. My hubby got the shrimp tacos and he said they were delicious and he devoured it instantly, didn't even save me a bite . For the finale, the main star of the event, we ordered the key lime pie!! And I will tell you, I don't even care for key lime pie because I'm not a big fan of tarte flavors but this key lime pie with meringue was wonderfully balanced with tarte & sweet! I def remembered to take a pic of this celebrity pie! And you see the pic with my hubby for reference of size and still wished I ordered my own! Our fav key lime pie in key west!
Moondog has some truly unique flavors and we enjoyed our dinner visit! We got the Mac N cheese, steak tacos, and Key Lime Pie. I honestly think this key lime pie was the best one we tried on the island. Although, Publix is still my favorite. The Mac N Cheese was delicious it is very non traditional so be prepared for some sharper flavors. We went when it was freezing cold so we had to sit on the outside patio because inside was on a waitlist. We still got our food relatively quickly and the waiter was very nice. I would definitely return back here for another dinner in the future. All in all great place!
The coffee is amazing and they have a bakery case in the front with great pastries! The wait was a bit long but I feel like it went by quick, they have very quirky characters they give you while they wait. I got the chimichurri churassco breakfast plate and it was delicious! The A/C on the inside was wonderful and they have a nice outdoor patio area but it is a little limited on space.

While in town I found myself at Moondog every day, multiple times a day. Being a gluten free (preference not allergy) vegetarian, Moondog had an option for every meal! I'm very active and finding protein options while traveling can be tough, but they accommodated my diet perfectly without needing to make modifications. The breakfast bowl with tofu is amazing, and the veggie burger is hands down one of the best I've had, and they recently switched to gluten free breadcrumbs as a binder so it's truly gluten free! 11/10 on the service scale as they started remembering my order and making me feel at home! They give out cool names for those waiting for tables, and the overall vibe here is not a tacky island style restaurant, more of a local, hometown, favorite. Their bakery items include plenty of options for gluten free guests, and everything I had from there was also amazing. Highly recommend! read more

We all loved our brunch. Everything was excellent. I had the Quiche Lorraine. It was so fluffy, probably the best I've ever had. The Goat cheese, red pepper polenta cake - WOW. I will try to make something like that at home. It was delicious. Never had that before. And then there was the pastries. They looked delicious and even though we were full, we got some to go for later. Yum! read more

Wow! This may have been one of the best hamburgers I've ever had. We were staying across the street at the Lighthouse Hotel and on our last night we decided to give the Moondog Café a try. We were not disappointed. Food was excellent, service was excellent, drinks were good. We sat outside on the patio and it was great. If you were to spend some time in Key West two weeks I would definitely recommend you try this for dinner. read more

Absolutely loved the selection of sweets here! They were pretty busy but take out was our option anyways - as busy as they were they quickly took our order & packed it up nicely for the walk back to the hotel. The key lime pie with pile high meringue was my favorite! This spot will definitely be on my rotation of places to visit when we're down in the keys! read more
Lots of staff make turnover quick so not too long of a wait since they don't have reservations started with light delicious strawberry kisses sangria. Got the special blackberry bourbon French toast. Made with brioche breadD , it was light and sweet with a strong hint of bourbon. Fresh blackberries adorned it with lightly powdered sugar. Yum. Also got a grilled Mahon sandwich which came in with string fries. Good as well. Lastly ordered dessert since the case looked fabulous. Loved the banana cream pie- very light and had undertone of dark chocolate incrust as well as fresh banana on every bite. Great lunch good service read more

This place is a must eat at! The blackened shrimp tacos...Chef's kiss! My husband got the Big Papa Burger and it was so good he ordered the Moondog Burger to go for later! The atmosphere is upbeat and happy, just a super fun place with great food and stellar service! read more
The bakery was a nice little find for the end of the night. We just had dinner and wanted something sweet. The key lime pie was delicious and a chocolate mousse out of this world. The tart as well was incredible. The bakery has a cozy vibe and the staff was amazing. read more
Seating g fills up, but you can order at the window or counter for coffee and sweets. Key lime filling is on point. The crust is.... Cookie like? Very tasty but firm. There is a trio option with the basque cheese cake, key lime tart and salty chocolate treat. Service was friendly and fast. Def add to your key lime pie crawl. read more
I went to to this spot 3 times in a row!!!! I have heard a lot about this place and it was pretty good.! The place was packed and there was a line out the door. Service was okay, the food that I ordered was the French toast with berries and then I tried the steak eggs and with cheese. And then BLAT I added Swiss cheese and turkey. Which was phenomenal. The steak wasn't that great. The eggs were good and the potatoes. If you go, go and get the French Toast!!! The restaurant was clean!! read more

4.5 stars for a bangin Key West breakfast stop. Ordered two wildly different dishes and both were fantastic. Shashuska and the Elvis French Toast. A tip for each, ask for extra bread with the Shashuska and eat the Elvis fairly quickly so that it doesnt get overly saturated with syrup. Service was great, we sat out front and it was very "Keysey" with cool breeze and shade from tropical foliage. There was even a rooster nestled in right near us - can't get more Key West than that. Took the dog too because at least the outside is dog friendly. Highly recommended for breakfast. read more

Where to eat in Key West? This trendy, colorful, and lively cafe & bakery is a popular spot, next to Hemingway House. Love the wall mural and overall cozy vibes! Indoor and outdoor seating. Pet friendly. It was a pretty hot and humid day, so their Watermelon juice really hit the spot. Sweet, refreshing and delicious!! Their John Wayne Burger was juicy, flavorful and perfectly cooked. It had just enough barbecue sauce that it gives it flavor but wasn't overwhelmingly saucy. The onions were sautéed but still had a little crisp to it. The white cheddar was melty and cheesy!! The Chips were very crispy with a crunch to it! For dessert, we tried the New Moon Trio: The Cheesecake was light, creamy, not overly sweet and delicious! The Caramel Chocolate Tart was our FAVORITE!! Love the hazelnuts on top and pistachios on side. It was creamy, not overly sweet Caramel and reminded me of Ferrero Rocher. The Key Lime Tart had a good key lime flavor; wish the ratio of meringue to key lime was a little better. Their Handcrafted Pastries are made in house, using the highest quality ingredients!! Please do yourself a favor and have breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, AND dessert here. I've tried this place several times and everything has been excellent. The food menus are expansive and have a lot of delicious, unique options. The dessert bar has gluten-free options, which is a must for me, so I'm very thankful I get to indulge there. I really enjoyed the Moondog cafe . First time we went this trip to Key west. We both ordered burgers medium but they were very pink ! I had moondog burger my husband ordered one with jalepeno avacado etc . He ordered lemonade but it was very bitter prob fresh but needed sugar. We will try the John Wayne next visit! The desserts are beautiful ! I ordered key lime pie which was great ! Fun place ... we ate at the bar. The service is great they are very attentive. Great place not to be missed read more
A highly rated place in Key West (and I see why) so we had to stop by. We went for both lunch and breakfast. They make all of their desserts fresh in house daily. For lunch we shared chicken potstickers from the happy hour menu and fresh watermelon juice. For breakfast, we had a delicious guava and cream cheese pastry, fresh catch Benedict with potatoes, a side of cheese eggs, a mimosa and a matcha almond honey latte. The food was amazing, especially the smaller on the Benedict. The latte was ok, could've even sweeter to me. Recommended for your visit to the keys. There will be a wait for brunch wont be too bad. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. read more
Moondog Cafe was a nice place to pop in for a bite to eat and slice of key lime pie. The atmosphere was fast paced, crowded, and happy, with cute art scattered about. I'm not a huge key lime pie fan, but this slice was very tasty. The toasted meringue is what made it. Service was meh. It was very difficult to get anyone's attention, and it was a struggle to get forks, napkins, and more water. Attitudes were surface-friendly but behavior was dismissive. Overall, though I've read great things about Moondog, and I enjoyed the pie, the service was a turn off for me. read more

We had a very nice lunch at Moondog. Place is fun and funky, like crazy Key West. Staff were all super friendly. A little crowded, so we opted to sit at the counter. Lattes were good and hot! Tarragon chicken salad and avocado toast were both winners! Lots of really good fresh baked stuff in the display counters, lots of otter good things on the menu! Baker on site, working away while we were there! Full bar too, lots of specialty drinks. We go back! Recommend Moondog! read more
We came here for happy hour around 4:30 pm. They had some pretty good things on the menu. We got a poke bowl fried shrimp and avocado stuffed with cheese and balsamic drizzle. The beers were half price and the sangria was $6. We also got a piece of banana pie. Everything was delicious and the staff was very friendly. Cute place with lots of seating and you can also sit at the bar. The best was the poke bowl for $11.!! So good!! But small portion so beware you might have to go hit another happy hour. Our bill came to $60 even with happy hour but well worth it. read more
This was our first stop after getting our scooter in the Keys. We were quite hungry after the long drive and needed a cold beer. Nancy had Moondog on her must see list and now I know why. This place has amazing desserts, made in-house and the food here is delicious. We ordered from their happy hour menu which is a great way to save while in the Keys. We picked the Shrimp Tempura ($7), the Avocado Caprese ($7), and the Ahi Tuna Poke $11. The food was very fresh and had a lot of flavor. I could have literally drank the juice/dressing served with the Ahi Tuna Poke, it was so good. For drinks I picked out the Florida Keys Brewing Spear Fish Amber ($5.25 HH price) and the Glass Key Lime White Sangria ($6). Both were delicious and refreshing on this blazing hot day. We closed out our meal with a slice of banana cream pie ($11.50) which was fluffy, light, creamy, and flavorful. I wish I could have this every day. I definitely want to come back to try one other other desserts they all look so good. Our server Danielle was wonderful and super friendly. Service was fast even though this place was packed. Shortly after we arrived every table was full. I guess this place is pretty popular with the locals. The interior is beautifully designed and very artsy. If you have an opportunity check out all the restrooms each one is uniquely decorated and its own way. There is outside seating available as well so I am assuming they are pet friendly but definitely check on that beforehand. Overall, we had a great experience and highly recommend dining here if you're in the Keys. read more
Came here for a late lunch. It was about a 20 min wait. The menu has GF items listed but the server indicated there is not a dedicated fryer for the fries. I'm glad he was knowledgeable about celiac. We shared an avocado caprese as an appetizer. My friend and I also ordered a Fig and Gorgonzola GF pizza. It was delicious!! They have many GF desserts. We all shared the vegan mini key lime pie, banana cream pie and carrot cake. It was amazing they had these options that were GF friendly. Definitely made my day! read more
Heard about this place as providing one of the best slices of key lime pie in Key West. As always with such claims I was a little skeptical but wanted to give it a try. The place was certainly busy but not overflowing and we were able to grab a table without a wait. We got out pie slices and I am happy to say they didn't disappoint! The tallest key lime pie of them all! The cafe was lit up with neon lights representing the moonbeams I guess? Clean restroom, but sparse. Service was friendly and laid back on key west times. Food was really good and was a nice water break after the walking tour at Hemingway house. Conveniently located. read more

Super cute vibes. The treats in the glass case are so beautiful, they are sparkling like glittery little diamonds. I loved the neon signs, the color, the art. Our server was cool, the food was good. Seafood pizza was on point and fondue fries were really tasty as well. The highlight was def the bakery tho, great presentation and delicious! read more

Came here while on vacation in the Key West. There was a wait, but we didnt' have much to do, so we waited a bit to be sat. They have a little coffee shop/bakery area as well, which in hindsight, I would've been content just ordering from the bakery. Once sat, we ordered the red snapper eggs benedict to share and the key lime pie. The red snapper eggs benedict was delicious. Although key lime pie is not my favorite flavor, we did end up really liking the key lime pie. Great spot to eat if you find yourself in the Key West. read more
