We've eaten inside the restaurant about 3-4 times now and ordered take-out once. Overall, the food, atmosphere and service have all been really top quality. It's a great place to take kids or have a girl's night. My daughter especially loves the cheeseburger, so don't sleep on it. We love all the pizzas we've tried (pineapple pastor is killer), the appetizers are delicious (brussel sprouts and squeakers are our favs) and we love that there's a new custard flavor to try it seems every week. The salads have been hit or miss though--nothing special. The one thing I would say is it is pricey, but you get what you pay for and this place is a great spot. read more

From the minute we walked in, Brooke, the host, was lovely, pleasant and helpful! She kept the same composure for all patrons, even on a busy/packed Thursday night! My boys enjoyed the arcade games while we waited to be seated. The arcade games were appropriately themed and didn't rob the bank. It was a great way for them to pass the time and nostalgic to watch! Once we were seated we had the opportunity to take in the ambience which was an experience all in its own. Our server, Kenneth, graced our presence with his happy disposition and menu knowledge! We ended up ordering the Pineapple pizza, which was sensational! It was more than just pineapples, it had pulled pork, pickled red onions drizzled with a creamy aioli! Mooney's is the spot to be in Long Beach right now. We made a reservation three weeks in advance (thank goodness), because when we arrived they were fully booked for walk-ins and absolutely packed. Both the food and drink menus are solid, and I love the unique cider service offering. We ordered the pineapple specialty pizza and a wedge salad. The wedge was good but didn't totally wow me, next time I'll probably go for the Caesar. The pizza, though? Phenomenal. Truly no notes. We also tried ranch and hot honey on the side (not necessary, but fun to try). We were too full for dessert, but I already know I'm coming back for the custard, it looked incredible. My one gripe is the noise level. There's basically no sound buffering, so when it's full, it gets loud, like yelling-across-the-table loud. I didn't expect this place to be so busy for a weeknight dinner, they've been open for 3 weeks and business is booming. They're only doing reservations right now, I feel like this should be mentioned on their website/Instagram because we didn't know until we arrived. The other options are to wait for bar seating (first come first serve) or join the waitlist for patio seating. I've noticed that a lot of guests end up leaving and weren't told this information. There wasn't any bar seating and we ended up waiting for 30-40 mins for patio seating. I like that their menu is simple and very straightforward. The pizza was good, but the crust was a little dense. I really like the Brussel sprouts, good acidity and sweetness to it. The soft serve is a good option for dessert. There's definitely lots of hype around this place. I think it's a solid 4 stars. We ordered a large pizza: half supreme and half cheese. I would have increased my rating to five stars if only the toppings and sauce were more evenly distributed. The supreme "half" of the pizza was more like 3 slices of supreme (see photo). Whoever threw the toppings on there clearly didn't care about even distribution of toppings. One slice had half of the amount of pepperoni that was in the entire pie. This resulted in the onions on that slice being uncooked and raw since it was covered in a pile of pepperoni. Also, our pizza only had sauce in the center half of the pizza. Maybe my standards are high, but I would like most of my bites to include 3 things: bread, cheese, and sauce. Some of the slices were literally half crust. Thankfully the dough was good, but I like most of my pizza to be pizza, not just bread. Notably, the table next to me had to have their pizza returned because it came without any sauce. Strange. The custard was great, the kids loved it. There was an impressive line at 6pm. Would highly recommend you make a reservation. I think we will give it a few more months before our return visit. I was very excited to try it. There were 4 of us & one has celiac disease. Server was friendly but service was slow. The restaurant was nicely remodeled but it is very noisy. We waited outside before they opened the doors at 4pm and didn't know we had to make a reservation, gentleman came out and said they would take reservations first and any walk ins would be waitlisted so make sure to make a reservation! Gotta love the vibe at Mooneys! The staff made us feel so welcomed right from the start. While we waited for our table, we played some video games and took some photos in their photo booth. The food was absolutely delicious. We started with the squeaker appetizer, and our son Max basically devoured the whole thing... we barely got a bite! Our other son went for the meatballs and couldn't get enough... he cleaned his plate. We loved the fried eggplant pizza and the double pepperoni. They were both were spot-on. There's so many other dishes we have to try next time we come! My only complaint is that the seats were uncomfortably close to the next table. It feels like you are eating with strangers. The service was 5 stars! It was quick and friendly. The apps and food rolled out in a perfect flow. The food was hit or miss. We got 2 apps. The squeakers were great. I love fried cheese curds. The house bread was just ok. It was pretty lackluster flavor wise. But, it was fresh and warm. I really wanted to love the pizza. The crust and crunchy and amazing! I loved the crust. But, it really lacked cheese. We got sat in the back side of the restaurant so we did not get to feel all the vibes of the new place, which was a bummer. Food was very underwhelming. Cesar salad was ok, nothing special. We order a large pepperoni and pineapple and a small ragu. The pepperoni came out really greasy and burnt, but they kids ate it. The ragu sounds unique and different, but the flavor just was not that great. When I hear ragu I expect hearty but instead got a saucy pizza with some sweetness in the flavor and it did not sit well. Some extra seasoning on the ricotta would probably add some better flavor. On thing we noticed in the pizza, the small size crust fell flat. There was no soft or chewy crust but rather a thin crust pizza. You can tell from the photo. And both the pizza came out at different times so my family ate theirs before I got to eat any of mine and it didn't seem hot. Anyhow, for what it is, it's not terrible, but probably won't be in our reg rotation to go to. Will try again in a few months to wait for improvements. It's a great place for groups and kids if you're able to make reservations. It's loud so you don't have to worry about noise. We enjoyed the custard the most. Pros: Our server was very attentive and friendly. The restaurant was clean. The sauce and crust had nice flavors and crunch consistency. The beers were crisp tasting. My kids enjoyed the custard. Disappointments: Still had to wait 20 min even with a reservation and noticed people who arrived after us with similar party was seated before us. It was crowded with very little space to walk to even go to the restroom. The booth was tight for our family of 6 which included 3 small children. Food: The appetizers were small and lacking in quality for the price paid. Meatballs were 3 small meatballs drenched in sauce. The brussel sprouts dish was a small bowl, soggy, drenched in oil and had 2 small walnut pieces. While the pizzas were large they were also overpriced for what was-mostly sauce and cheese with very minimal toppings. For example, the fried eggplant pizza had 1 small piece of fried eggplant on each large slice of pizza. For the pineapple pizza, while the pineapple and onion pieces were large, the al pastor meat and cilantro lime sauce was scant. Overall the ratio of toppings to pizza slice was not good. BIGGEST disappointment was our pan cheese pizza arrived with NO SAUCE. It was basically plain thick cheese bread. Thankfully when we notified our waitress, she apologized, removed it from our check, but we had to wait another 20 min for a new pizza. The new pizza arrived with light amount of cheese and burnt crusts. Overall, our family loves supporting small businesses in Long Beach, but it will probably be a while until we give this place another chance. We ended up spending a lot of money here and were not impressed. There are better pizza places nearby. the moment i made the reservation you could tell that this place is very homey and accommodating their servers were friendly, we came for a party of 11 and orders were on time. food was great, their chicken wings especially their Gochuchang wings are so good, the plains ones are very tasty and crispy. We ordered the Warm Olives, Brussels Sprouts, Chicago Wedge, and Pineapple Pizza to eat and had two bucket list beers to drink. The Castelvetrano and Cerignola Olives were a delightful start to the meal as they were mild, buttery, and not overly briny. The Chicago Wedge had a nice balance of tomatoes, onion, and pancetta paired well with a rich yet subtle bleu cheese dressing. The Brussels Sprouts were nicely roasted and balanced with hot honey, toasted walnuts, and Parmesan cheese. While the Pineapple Pan pizza was not my favorite, I appreciated the creativity and flavor combinations of the pie. The dough itself was the star, however! The dough's crispy-chewy exterior, robust flavor, and pleasant aroma tied the knot to the entire Mooney's experience. While I cannot remember the name of the bucket list beers we had, I can say that they did not disappoint! Fortunately I ordered takeout pizza as this pizza parlor is a disaster to try and get a table. The parking lot was very crowded and the front entrance was so crowded I could hardly get in. I question whether the place was conforming to occupancy requirements. As for the pizza. I ordered a 18" pepperoni, with sausage, mushrooms, and black olives. Mooney's pizza stood up to it reputation. I found it delicious. The tomato sauce, while a bit sparse IMO, was a little spicy which I liked a lot. Eating in at a pizza place is always better than take out as the cardboard box gets steamed up and the pizza can get rubbery and lose its crispness. That aside, the portions were huge and we had lots of leftovers. I reheated a piece on the rack of my little Emeril LaGazzi oven the next day (on Air Fry) for a few minutes and it was crisp and yummy. read more

While the fancy pizzas were great, the ingredients on the regular takeout style pizza were lackluster. The supreme pizza tasted much like the same ingredients any other take out place. Very familiar flavor profile. Wish they could perhaps use a better sausage and grab some better quality olives. They could also just get rid of the pizza entirely as I feel the moisture from all those ingredients turns the inner pizza soggy and diminishes the wonderful crust they got going on. The service was good but hectic. The were too many workers and seemed like not enough organization between all of them. Lots of standing around. Lot of gnats too. I ordered a pan supreme from the bar since tables are on a reserve only system. The pizza was excellent and the service was fantastic without attitude or rush. I especially enjoyed the bar staff tonight and was able to meet Hal Mooney the owner and his brother Peter that were very friendly and down to earth. The environment is usually extremely busy but designed like an upscale establishment. Everyone seemed happy to work for Hal. This is leaps and bounds above BJ's etc. less noise and confusion etc. The restroom was very clean. Unfortunately no take out is being offered directly from the establishment yet. Unfortunately, despite having a reservation, we waited more than 45 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. Given the delay, it was fairly obvious that our kids were hungry, but there was little effort to acknowledge the wait or accommodate us. We had ordered a side of bread while waiting, hoping it would help hold the kids over, but it wasn't brought out until we were finally seated. It was then handed to us in a large to-go bag and placed on the table, which felt like an odd presentation given the circumstances and the lengthy wait. Once seated, the service continued to be slow and inattentive. Dirty dishes piled up on our table, and multiple bussers passed by without clearing them. We frequently had to go out of our way to get someone's attention for basic service needs.
