Went to Mooney's Pizza in Long Beach for the first time, and it absolutely did not disappoint! They use fresh ingredients, make their own dough and sauce, and even brush the crust with garlic-infused olive oil. We ordered a large double-pepperoni pizza, and it was absolutely amazing. The crust had the perfect flavor and texture, and you could really taste the quality of the ingredients. We also tried the truffle fries, which were delicious, and finished things off with their "custard"--a Midwest-style ice cream treat that was the perfect way to end the meal. The food was outstanding, the service was amazing, and we really enjoyed the old-school pizza parlor decor. There's just something special about a place that gets the classic pizza experience right. I highly recommend Mooney's and can't wait to come back. Job well done!
We've been anticipating Mooney's pizza for a while, so we were happy to see it's open for business. We came here for dinner on a Thursday night. We made reservations for 7pm but arrived early to see if we could be seated earlier and we had no problems. We ordered a large Supreme pizza to share. It came out piping hot and freshly made. The pizza itself is good, crispy dough, fresh toppings. They were generous with their toppings and cheese. We also got BB Banana custard frozen dessert. My first time ever and it was delicious! Very creamy and velvety like a smooth soft serve ice cream. Service was excellent, our server is sweet and tentative. They seem to be high school students working here which is nice. There were a lot of staff members so service was impeccable. Ambiance is nice, I like the nostalgic pizza joint vibe. Lots of booths and tables to enjoy your food. There's also a front room for private parties if you have a large group. We definitely enjoyed the experience.
Came here last week with my son, daughter in law and grandson and had a very very dinner. We started with a nicely prepared Caesar Salad and the Bread with Calabrian Chile Honey Butter. I would definitely order both those items again. We also had an order of their wings with Gochujang BBQ sauce which was another winner. We ended up order two pizzas with one being the Ragu that was just ok, and the other being the Fried Eggplant that was very good. To you it off we all tried the Pistachio Custard that was a nice end to the meal. The place does get busy so you may want to make a reservation. They do have a big parking lot but parking can still get tight. As for the staff they are all very friendly and welcoming. They also do a really good job of keeping the place neat and clean.
This review is a little late because I went during their opening in March, oops! Mooney's is good. It's a pizza joint trying to be an elevated neighborhood spot. The decor is classy yet casual. There's a cute photobooth and play area for the kids. As for food, I was super excited to try their Al Pastor pizza, a Mexican-American take on a pineapple pizza. Unfortunately, by the time I sat for dinner, they were out of most of their menu, including the al pastor. I am NOT docking them for points for running out of things on opening weekend. It's so hectic I'm sure, and it's a lot to have to figure out. They were able to make the pizza with pork belly instead of al pastor though. It was pretty good, but honestly forgettable. I also think that their menu is pretty expensive for their portions and offerings. I know they were running low on items, but the toppings were definitely skimpy. I would like to come back to try a couple of more things from their menu, including their extensive variety of beers. PRO TIP: save room for dessert and get fresh churros from the very nice lady outside at Churros Juquilita
Mooney's Pizza is fantastic! I really enjoyed the vibe of this place--it has a clean, welcoming atmosphere with a great blend of old-school charm and modern diner style. There may be a wait, but it's definitely worth it. Our server, Manny, was friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. We tried the double pepperoni pizza with added ricotta foam, the squash blossom pizza with goat cheese (a special), the table rolls, Brussels sprouts, and frozen custard for dessert. Pizzas: Both pizzas were outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and made with quality ingredients. The tomato sauce was rich and delicious, and the crust was a standout: crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and incredibly tasty. Appetizers: The table rolls were warm and fluffy with a nice crust. The butter served alongside them was incredibly creamy and paired perfectly with the bread. The only item I wasn't crazy about was the Brussels sprouts. They were a bit overcooked and dry, which was disappointing compared to how much we enjoyed everything else. Frozen Custard: My friend recommended adding the olive oil drizzle and sea salt topping. It sounds a little unusual, right? But it paired surprisingly well with the chocolate-vanilla swirl custard and added a delicious sweet-and-savory balance. I can't wait to have it again! Overall, I highly recommend Mooney's. Between the excellent pizza, great service, and memorable dessert, it's a place I'm already looking forward to visiting again.
Sacrilicious! "Sacred and delicious" :) Came on Sunday evening . Made reservations of course. Parking was plenty on the lot. When we walked in, the joint was packed. I walked up to hostess and check in. 5 mins later we were seated. I did quick look around, good vibes all around, family time and one on one. Our waitress came, she was friendly, went over a couple things we asked. We decided to go with meatballs for appetizers, salad, double pepperoni with added mushrooms, and I got beer of course haha. Meatballs and salads came out within minutes. Meatballs was great, not too hot. I took one bite of the salad and it was fresh. Beer was cold and tasty. Pizza came in no time, hot like a pie. When I fold the pizza in half it made that sweet crunchy sound that only real pizza lovers know. The taste was delicious, good blend of pepperoni, mushroom and cheese. Of course someone wanted to try dessert too in the end. Put this on your list folks, a must try.
First time visiting Mooney's Pizza, and already planning what to order the next time! For food, we tried: - Sausage & Chard Pizza: white sauce, pork sausage, swiss chard - Ragu Pizza: 8 hour ragu, ricotta foam, fresh basil - Supreme Pizza (pan): onions, green peppers, olives, pepperoni, sausage - Squeakers: fried Wisconsin cheese curds - Rum Raisin Frozen Custard - Vanilla Frozen Custard - Cookie of the Day (Smores) For drinks, we ordered: - Lavy Lemonade (alcoholic) - Yuzu Ginger (alcoholic) My favorite pizza of the night was definitely the Supreme pan pizza, though the party I was with preferred the regular style crust over pan. My least favorite was the Ragu - salt was its predominant flavor and overall wasn't balanced. The Sausage & Chard had a touch of sweetness and somehow came out a very wet pizza. Service was good. We waited 30 minutes on a Thursday evening for a table, but once seated, food and drinks came flying. The inside reminded me of an old-school diner. It was so busy and loud that we couldn't hear what our table or waiter was saying some of the time. There were also a lot of items sold out - at some point they even ran out of soda, so we couldn't get a refill. This happened on a weekday night, so I can't imagine how quickly they run out on weekends. Now, the price. The price overall is a bit on the expensive end. Dips such as ranch cost extra, and come in a small portion. I can understand them charging dollar prices for sauce if they gave more, but with the amount they give, it should be a flat rate of just $1.00. Overall, I enjoyed my first visit. Looking forward to coming back, and hopefully by then they have more items available.
Finally got a reservation at Mooney's and it did not disappoint! For a Wednesday night it was honestly pretty lively. Our rezi was for their dining room which is a little quieter but great for babies/high chairs. To order we got the house bread, cesar salad, and two pizzas: pineapple specialty and regular cheese. Appetizers were on point! Legit cesar salad with fresh dressing. House bread stole the show. Pizzas, we actually liked the standard cheese better! It wasn't super cheesy but went perfect with ranch. BOMB crust. Pineapple sounds better than it is--the salsa just doesn't feel right. Doesn't help that it came out waaay later than the cheese. Lastly custard is delicious. Overall would definitely recommend this place! It can be busy but pizza and menu options are unmatched!
Notable things. The service was great. Our waitress was really sweet and nice. The main area was just SO LOUD. We ended up sitting outside and they accommodated that which was great. If you want to sit inside though and are sensitive to loud noises I would not suggest it. I've never had to change seating from the shear amount of noise and yelling before. The food was really good. We started with the Caesar salad which was so so good. Creamy and rich without being heavy. The pan pizza is INSANE. the crust is fluffy and thick and chewy. Absolutely recommend. We got the ragu pizza and added burnt pepperoni cups which is a must. They end up such a nice crunchy texture on the rim. And the ricotta is delicious. The other pizza is a pineapple pastor which is really different. It's sweet and tasty but don't get this is you're feeling something more akin to pizza. It's like bbq pizza with a different twist and sauce. Still good. Just different. The custard to me was nothing special and really I could do without. If you get any red sauce time though, you will not be disappointed. We also tried the meatballs and I wanted to lick the plate clean. The red twice was so flavorful and hearty. Give this place a try if you're a pizza lover. Definitely worth it.
First time in and came here on a whim on a Friday at 4:30. Happily found some seats at the bar and were greeting by a sleuth of friendly and helpful staff. Since we were going out after and didn't want leftovers, took the advice of our bartender and got a small pizza and an app. Perfect amount. We started with meatballs. Super flavorful but the temp wasn't as hot as you'd expect for fresh out of the oven. Would have loved for them to check with a thermometer before serving, but they were still delicious. Pizza: went with the Fancy Cheese. OMFG! This was incredible and a pizza I will be craving daily. The bottom crust had a perfect crunch when you bite into it and the outer crust, pillowy and a perfect vessel to scoop up a side of their pesto ranch. (Thanks to the staff for that rec too!) The only let down (aside from luke warm meatballs) was my beer glass. For a place that prides itself of beer and being owned by a fellow cicerone (I'm one too), was that the glass was not "beer clean". No, there should not be bubbles on the glass because that's actually microscopic dirt that the beer is clinging to. The space is so welcoming and has a great flow to it. The parking is abundant. Absolutely will be back!
And we are back....... Today we celebrated my son's birthday and this was the spot he wanted to come try.... The place was packed we had reservations and only waited 5 min tops to get seated. Our server Jake was great, excellent customer service. Our food was delicious we need to come back for more!!!!!
I was craving pizza & my friend @cheftiffanythomas suggested Mooney's Pizza. Before hand she let me know this place is packed and she booked reservations. We shared a combo between 3 people total, a Cesar salad, & meatballs. Everything was savory and filling. The ambiance of this place is rather unique as well. If you crossed an episode from the hit series Cheers with a 1980's Pizza Hut; you would get Mooney's Pizza. It's rather nostalgic for the millennial crowd. With reservations we did wait about 10 to 15 mins. Keep that in mind if you're going without. We noticed right away it was crowded, and people come here in large groups as well. We were vicariously enjoying the view of the pipping hot pizzas walking out from the steamy kitchen. Everything looked so good we were already making plans on what to order for our second time around. The lighting in this establishment is very much relaxed and pleasing. Right away I noticed that the lamps were similar to those from the 1980's Pizza Hut restaurants with the stained glass. The Supreme Pan Pizza we ordered was packed with plenty of vegetables, the edges are nice and crispy as well. Though we loved the pizza we would have liked it with a bit more char on top, like the classic. We were also craving a plain sparkling water, such as a San Pellegrino, so far it has t been added to the menu. They have plenty of prebiotic sodas, beer, non-alcoholic beer, etc. The Cesar salad is fresh with plenty of romaine and grated fresh parm; with just a bit more pepper and bread crumbs it would be perfection. The meatballs were amazing, and drenched with the right amount of sauce. We absolutely loved this new Pizza Tavern & we're looking forward to coming back.
Damn this was some really great pizza and wings. We did the pan supreme pizza (pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, and sausage) such a good choice. The bread in the pizza dough was the best part, just a really good quality pizza. Also I loved that they served us the pizza and it was still steaming hot.. we also did an order of the buffalo wings which were easily a 10/10. The wings came out crispy, but when u bit into them they were super tender and perfectly cooked. Also the buffalo sauce and homemade ranch was excellent. Def will be going back.

We walked in 15 min before they stopped taking orders. Right off the bat, super friendly servers and quick to help and give us the deets on the menu. Shout out to Jakob for being the sweetest and most helpful server. Amazing service! We knew what we wanted - brussel sprouts, cheese curds (squeakers) with marinara and a double pepperoni & mushroom pizza with ranch and hot honey on the side. Brussels were solid. Lots of fresh grated parm on them. Squeakers (cheese curds) were crispy and yummy. The star - the marinara!!! Perfect flavor - sweet and savory at the same time. Delicious! Then the pièce de résistance - the pizza. Delicious crust, crispy pepperoni and real earthy mushrooms. What took this pizza to the next level? Their house made ranch and their hot honey to dip it in! Bomb! How has this place only been open 100 days? Found it on TikTok and it did not disappoint! Extra star for impeccable music selection and beautiful minimalist pizza parlor decor. I am a fan!! We were able to get a reservation for an 8:30pm dinner and there were some empty tables nearby so not too crowded at this time. Our server was nice and was joking around with our group. We enjoyed our pitchers of beer, apps, pizza, and custard! We started with the Caesar salad (family size) and fried cheese curds with spicy ranch. I liked both of these, but I think the pizzas were better. We got the double pepperoni with ricotta, sausage and chard, and pineapple pizzas. The double pep was my favorite, have to add hot honey, too! Sausage and chard was my second favorite. The pineapple we wanted to try because it had al pastor on it. I liked the idea of it better than it tasted. I want to come back and try other pizzas. We also tried the custard for dessert with seal salt and olive oil. Finally got to try this place and it was so worth it! My family got reservations; heard it's hard to get seated as a walk in so I recommend making reservations. I love the vintage vibe of the interior, I felt like I was on a movie set. They have a photobooth and it's so cute! I ordered the Sausage and Chard Pizza and everything about it was great! It was so flavorful and the small size was plenty for 2 people. We also ordered the brussel sprouts and everyone loved it! Don't forget to order the dips! We tried the Mooneys Ranch and Hot Ranch. I ordered the Lavender Lemonade and I wouldn't recommend it. I will; however, try the lambrusco next time. read more

Came with my family. We ordered the cheese curds, wings, Caesar salad and several pizzas. The white pizza with pork and Swiss chard was the PERFECT combo. Slightly sweet and savory. The marinara sauce on the pepperoni pizza was so fresh! Loved the cold Caesar salad- perfect amount of dressing. We're a ranch family and our server so kindly bright us a "sauce flight" including the pesto and spicy ranch. Also added the hot honey to the pepperoni/mushroom pizza- chef's kiss! Ok; there isn't many done in pizza parlors anymore. This is a gem!!!! We need to support this family parlor! My Kids loved it, my wife (hard to please) loved it! It was a pleasure to meet Peter, he was friendly, and welcoming, and even came To The table to make sure everything was ok and give his recommendations I'm glad to see that they are staying busy and wish them loads of success. Food: We ordered the deep dish double pepp, regular cheese, Cajun fries, house ceasar salad, and the swirled gelato (chocolate/vanilla). The deep dish is a lot of dough, but it is tasty dough! Fluffy, cheesy, with a CRAZY cheese pull...If you're worried about getting too full don't order this one but 10/10 the regular cheese was great, quality cheese, not too crispy or soft, a solid choice 8/10. The Cajun fries were just ok, hot and crispy but definitely had better 6/10. House ceasar salad was just good but not groundbreaking, the lettuce was fresh and crispy, the parm is freshly grated, the dressing seems homemade but have had better. The serving size was a little small for a family, and it didn't have croutons, it felt like a little something was missing 6/10. The swirled gelato was delicious and if you ask to "make it cute" they will add sprinkles on top! 9/10 service: You may be wondering, if the food was not all 10'a across the board, why 5 stars? The service. Specifically Skylar (shout out to you Skylar!) She was so sweet, attentive, and her personality was so bubbly. The kitchen made an extra order of hot honey brussels sprouts and she kindly offered it to us (spoiler... it ended up being the favorite dish for our family of 4 for the meal! 10/10!) Ambiance: The ambiance is a modern diner type vibe w/ retro details including the gorgeous stained glass lamps hanging above the booths. Such a cozy place. Very very busy and very loud filled with families, couples, friends, and everyone in between (but this didn't bother us at all) :) Wait time: We came on a Friday night at 7:30 with a reservation and the place was overflowing, filled with people waiting to be seated inside, outside in front, and trailing out around the building. I would not recommend coming at this time because it seemed like the craziest dinner rush. It seemed that around 8:15pm everyone was seated and the place really calmed down. It took us about 10 minutes past our reserved time to get seated (no big deal but something to be noted) Pricing: At first glance the prices looked a little steep as compared to your standard pizza shop but after looking at the bill everything looked very reasonable, total was $113 for a family of 4 before tip for 2 pizzas, 2 sodas, a family salad, fries, and 2 gelatos (fair!) read more

Not worth the hype. I got wings, pizza, and fries. Expensive for ordinary tasting food. One of the pizzas got was a cheese pizza for my son and I thought they accidentally gave us pepperoni at first because there was so little cheese. There was blobs/ uncovered area of marinara. For a cheese pizza I would expect it to look like a traditional cheese pizza that is covered in cheese. Interior was nice decor so it's more for the vibes than it is for the food. read more
There has been a lot of hype and excitement over the last few months about this place opening. Reservations were strongly recommended. I got a table for 3 a week and a half out. They really do fill up! When we arrived this past Sunday there was a sign that said no walk-ins available for that night. We got seated right away. We started with the Squeakers cheese curds served with homemade ranch = delicious! I can't think of any place around here that we can get cheese curds. When I visit my sister in Minnesota we always get them multiple times because they are so dang good and we love them. We decided on the Pineapple al Pastor pizza and the Pan Pepperoni. I will say; I am not a fan of pineapple on pizza (but the other two people with me were) nor do I like al pastor.... But WOW was this pizza scrumptious. I loved the fresh cilantro on it too. The crust was outstanding. The al pastor was not like the al pastor I was thinking of, which is the crumbled type in a taco. The pan pepperoni pizza was excellent. It had a thicker crust (being a pan pizza) and it was kind of doughy but not in a bad way. We had leftovers of this one that we reheated the next day in the air fryer and it was fantastic! I was too stuffed for dessert but the other 2 got something (but of course I had to taste it). Haha Vanilla custard with olive oil and salt I did not like. All I got was a huge bite of salt. The swirl custard was good. The cookie was meh and over cooked. We will definitely be back!! read more

Had to see what the chatter was all about. Walked in on a Wednesday night. They had a steady flow of people. I got my pizza to go. The hostess are super friendly and welcoming. The young man at the counter needs ti be more enthusiastic and give recommendations. He told me that it was like every other pizza place. Should never say that to a new customer. I ordered the double pepperoni to go. The pizza was very good. Crust was flavorful and not to thin. And sooo many tasty pepperoni. I will be back to try the pan. read more
Our second time here, this time for a birthday party with a large group. Our server Abby was super friendly and the team had the food at the table very promptly. Peter also helped us out and he was a good time and super insightful about everything on the menu as well as the bar. The pizza was phenomenal, the Ragú was the stand out of course. An absolute must have. I was hesitant about the lemon custard but it was actually so so good. Great experience overall, highly recommend for large parties! read more
Mooney Pizza Tavern is such a great family dinner spot. Even though it was their soft opening, everything felt polished like they've been doing this forever. We ordered the pineapple pizza (with the pickled onions and green sauce -- insane combo), a classic pepperoni, and the cheese custard fries. Everything hit. The crust had that perfect crisp on the outside but still soft inside, and the flavors were super balanced. The pineapple pie especially stood out -- sweet, savory, tangy, just done right. I grabbed the Tipopils from their bucket list beer selection, and that's where it gets cool -- they actually do a beer passport that they keep behind the bar. Every time you try one of their bucket list beers, they log it in. I had mine marked down (I think I was number nine). Such a dope touch that makes you want to keep coming back and working your way through the list. Service was great from start to finish -- friendly, attentive, and you could tell the staff genuinely cared, even during a soft opening. That kind of hospitality makes a big difference. They've also got a photobooth and a couple arcade games -- including Rampage, which is a straight classic. It gives the place that nostalgic tavern energy while still being super family-friendly. What makes it even better for me is my family lives down the street, so this is about to become our go-to for easy family nights. You can tell there's real passion behind this spot. Definitely looking forward to coming back regularly with my loved ones and spreading the word. Long Beach needed this. read more

Came in to see the new spot I've lived in the area and seen this location go from different types of restaurants and didn't make it . So they have a great section of beers and wine and the service here is very attentive from the moment you walk in . Place was busy on a Thursday evening and we waited for just about 25 mins but we have some refreshments at the bar while we waited. The booths and table are very cool and the bar top is full service good and drinks and friendly faces We had wings plain with sauce on the side and pizza . Having had the regular pepperoni but it looks good and they have speciality pizzas as well. I will be back . Love to see a place like this doing so good with families and friends Cheers!!!! read more

Mooney is such a a cool vibes; I see why there is always a long wait during dinner. They servers move so quick and they are soooo polite. THE PIZZA IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL OF GOOD. My boyfriend and I got a large pizza and devoured it. Perfect amount of pepperoni ; nice thin and crispy crust I like. Long Beach got a banger in Mooney's. Had the Tavern Burger while waiting on my pizzas to come out. Straight fire. Onions were perfectly cooked and the meat was as well. Also ordered a nonalcoholic beer. Solid. As for the pizzas.... HOT DAMN. The Ragu was deliciously crafted and prepared. Got a pan Pep too.... PUNCH ME IN THE CROTCH GOOD. Staff.... The FOH folks were a joy to chat with and very friendly. I don't know when I'll be back but it better be soon. Second time here. There were 3 of us on a Sunday afternoon around 1:30. It was busy but not nearly as crazy as the last time I was there for dinner a few weeks ago. Excellent food and service. Walking in here there is just something different about the clientele. Looking around, people are not just sitting at their seats looking at their phones and ignoring one another. They are like smiling, talking and laughing, this place somehow brought up my mood and made me and the family just like, happy. We ordered the pepperoni to give it a try and the House Bread. Personally, I was not so impressed with the house bread which was delicious but just not special. Quite the opposite to the pizza. Pepperoni was great, the sauce and cheese was all a great blend and well balanced. The pizza had more than just the ingredients though, if love and care had an aftertaste it was all over this pizza. Hard to describe but it just popped with homemade taste and feel and all of a sudden I got it. It's like understanding the old TV show, Cheers? Where everybody knows your name... I was going to give the place a four but as I am writing this, the staff namely, Miles just shined right through. Made me think what a five really means to me. The overly welcoming staff and feel, the pizza, people having a nice little family birthday right next to us for like a four year old, across from like four older friends getting together and chatting over wine. CHEESE?!?! $30 for a pizza that lacked cheese. I gave them an extra star because the taste was good, online ordering to go was easy. I ordered a sausage and mushroom pizza, but there was a few specks of cheese. Would I have to add $ to a $30 pizza for more cheese?! Maybe if I see some positive reviews about there pizzas having cheese, I would love to come back. read more

I'd definitely recommend Mooney's Pizza if you're looking for a great neighborhood spot! The restaurant has a modern style with a fun, family-friendly atmosphere that makes you feel welcome the moment you walk in. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the service was excellent from start to finish. We started with the meatball appetizer and the homemade focaccia bread served with their house made butter, both were absolutely delicious! The focaccia was fresh, warm, and so good that we couldn't stop eating it. We also shared the Tavern Burger, a flavorful smash burger cooked perfectly and served with seasoned fries that were crispy and tasty. To top it off, our table shared a large Supreme pizza, which was loaded with toppings and didn't disappoint. Overall, we had a fantastic experience. We finally got to try this place! It's pretty busy for a Thursday night but we made reservations and got seated pretty quickly. I remember when this place was a dingy diner. Im so glad they were able to revamp this place to a great pizza joint! It looks really nice inside. Our server, I forget his name, the Asian dude, was very attentive. We got water immediately and placed our order right away. We got the large double pepperoni and it was huge. The cheese curds were delicious as well. The Brussels were good but I prefer the cheese curds. All the food came out quickly. Our server was great. It is a little pricey but its worth supporting this business. I've been really looking forward to try this place out and finally got the chance. We made a reservation same day for that night online , super easy! The Caesar salad was so yummy and fluffy it was delicious! For the pizza, we did a build your own small and added the toppings we wanted. I do think for my own preference, the pizza was a little too saucy but now for next time I know to ask for a little less sauce and a little more well done. Overall it was pretty good though, and we also got a Mooneys ranch to dip. The vibe of the place is really cool and the staff were super nice especially when we were asking for recommendations. I forgot to get a picture because it was just too good, but for sure we'll be going back for their frozen dessert we got a swirl of their two flavors and it was a really nice sweet treat. Great experience. My friends and I got the double pepperoni on pan crust and the pineapple on the classic crust large both were very fresh and flavorful!!! The pan crust is a bit more thick and bread like and the regular crust is almost like a Naples style or thinner in the center... both had great flavors! The ambiance of the place made me feel like it was a perfect blend of the 70's/80's with modern today touches! The service was impeccably fast!!! We had food on our table within minutes of us ordering (salads) and the pizzas were promptly after! I will come back for sure! read more

4.5 stars. We finally got to try this place! It's been on our radar for awhile but it's always been so crowded. Luckily for us, they just started opening up for lunch on the weekends. We came at 11 am with a reservation and was seated immediately. Service was very friendly and helpful. We got our water and drinks right away. We ordered a large pizza, and it took about 15 minutes for them to bring it out. The pizza was fantastic! Tons of cup pepperoni with pickled jalapeños. We loved the crispy crust and it was thin enough to fold. The sauce was on the sweeter side. Overall, this was a delicious pie! Well worth the wait! Chef's kiss! read more
Went on Mother's Day around 11:30am. It wasn't too packed, and most people seemed to have reservations like we did, so everything ran pretty smoothly. We started with 2 orders of the squeakers (fried Wisconsin cheese curds) with marinara and their house hot honey sauce. Really good. Crispy, cheesy, and honestly it's pretty rare to find cheese curds in California so we had to get them. The hot honey sauce didn't really work with the curds for me, but it was way better on the pizza. For pizza, we got a large double pepperoni and a large fancy cheese. The fancy cheese was my favorite,, super saucy and really flavorful. The double pepperoni was a bit too salty for me on its own, but it actually paired really well with the hot honey sauce. Both pizzas had a thin, crispy crust. Since it was Mother's Day, they also gave us complimentary chocolate covered strawberries. We finished with frozen custard topped with Fruity Pebbles and it was delicious. Service was great the whole time. Everyone checked in on us and our server James was really kind and attentive. read more

Loved this pizza place, such a nostalgic feel and throwback to what family pizza parlors used to be. They are super busy so make sure you make reservations. Service was great! We celebrated my son's birthday and he got a little birthday dessert on the house. We will definitely make this a regular spot for family dinners. read more

Absolutely delicious! Jts been less than 24 hours and I'm still thinking about the pizza! I've been meaning to try this place out for a while but couldn't always find a convenient reservation. I got very lucky and we finally tried out Mooney's! Holy shiznit, it was such an experience going to a pizza tavern because it feels like our generation kinda lost this. The vibe was immaculate--family friendly neighborhood with phenomenal pizza, and dope service. We're super excited to return and try other pizzas here. And we gotta mention they sell cool merch there! Gotta grab some swag! read more

We've been looking for a pizza place and we found Mooney. We loved all the appetizers: squeakers, Brussels sprouts and meatballs! We had the double pepperoni. I actually came the a second time around for the pan pizza and loved it even better than the thin. Service is great and ambiance is what you expect pizza should be! read more

We really wanted to love this place since we live a mile away. We had reservations but still had to wait 22 minutes for our table to be ready. We ordered the Pineapple pizza which had pineapple sauce, al pastor, pickled onion, and cilantro lime salsa. They were generous with the toppings, but the pizza needed more sauce. It was pretty dry. The pizza was cooked well and the crust had a nice crunch to it. We also ordered the strawberry chocolate swirl custard but their strawberry machine was down, so they brought us the chocolate custard without asking if we're okay with only chocolate. Also, the custard came super melted already too! The table next to us also ordered the custard and theirs weren't melted like ours. I wasn't a fan of the wooden spoons either. Tasted like I'm licking cardboard. We loved the old fashion pizza joint vibes though read more

Oh my goodness, +!! I wanted to go to this much anticipated place before it opened. We live right around the corner. Due to health issues I didn't make it until last night. I was blown away. We sat at the counter because the wait was long which is understandable. Our bartender(forgot his name) was amazing and so helpful. We each tried a couple different craft beers, all excellent. We got the double stuffed pizza and chicken parm sandwich w/truffle fries. The lg pizza is very big which a crust that is thick enough but tastes almost light. The sandwich wow!! We got their custard too, yum!! I can't say that good things just try it. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait to go back and try more things. Thank you so much, Mooneys read more
Great family owned local spot. The atmosphere was very friendly and somewhat nostalgic. Our server Abby was pleasant and attentive. The food was very good we ordered the Ragu and the Fried eggplant pizza and they were both delicious. And the pistachio and cheesecake custard was a great finish. We had a reservation and still ended up waiting 15-20 minutes, which is totally fine! They're super popular. The staff was all very friendly and the service was great. The restaurant is beautiful with a retro vibe and the bar looked very well planned out. We ordered 2 pizzas, 2 sodas, a Caesar salad, 2 sides of sauce, and dessert ( custard & cookie). The good: the pineapple pizza ($25) was delicious. Light, airy, and the lime cilantro salsa paired perfectly. The custard was yummy, and the cookie was perfect. The medium: the double pepperoni pan pizza ($32) came out pretty toasty, which okay, they're new and this pizza is still flavorful. There was barely any cheese though, which meant the pepperoni just fell off and you ended up with a slice of saucy bread. The crust was crunchy at least but it really needed cheese! It's also pretty loud inside just from people talking even without all of the tables full, so be prepared for that. The ugly: the ceaser salad was SO GARLICKY none of us could eat it. No mention that it was an anti Dracula salad on the menu either. We set it to the side and when the waitstaff asked if we were done we said we didn't like it and they just binned it. Really was also expecting a bigger salad for the price ($13) but since none of us even ate it ended up not mattering. The sides of sauce were also $2 and maybe 1/8 cup of sauce? Like you'd get for a side of ketchup. Lastly- the price. With tip this was over $130, which is definitely not the local pizza place vibe we were hoping for- more of a special treat once in a very long time. Not sure if we will be back or not yet but still on the fence. It's really a pretty restaurant but the price is not equivalent with the value of the food quite yet. read more

Definitely get reservations before coming here. The reservation system was a little odd, one day it said nothing was available but then the next day 9 spots opened up so if you're having trouble reserving then check again later or another day. We made reservations day of on a Wednesday at 5:45pm and it was packed inside Tons of seating indoor and outdoor and bar seating I was surprised and happy to see how busy it was on a weekday Parking was fuller because there's a dance studio in the same lot but we parked near be grocery outlet so if you're willing to walk there's more spots There were tons of workers so we got served sooo fast Our server Skylar was so friendly and kind We got a large Sausage and Chard pizza and the 14" Ragu pizza, two alcohol beverages, one lemonade, 3 custards, squeakers, and the price came to be out $140. So not a cheap meal but we had 8 pieces of pizza leftover. Worth coming back to. Got a thicker crust for the Ragu pizza. Maybe next time I'd get the regular crust for the Ragu pizza since it was already heavy with the Ragu sauce and ricotta cheese on top. Love the indoor ambiance too. You won't be disappointed! East Long Beach needed a restaurant like this! read more

Hi, Hal Mooney here, owner of Mooney's Pizza Tavern. We don't currently have any plans to add Vegan cheese, but thanks for asking. We're always listening to our guests and future guests and always considering new options!
Hi I am trying to place an order to pick up, can I email the order? The phone system is not available.
To the best of my knowledge, they are not taking take out orders yet. You could however sit at the bar, order, and tell them you would like your pizza to go.
Do you have vegan cheese?
We do not. But we do have a delicious vegan tomato pie.
Anything gluten free?
Yup! Gluten free pizzas along with GF apps, salads and desserts.
Is dining allowed in the outdoor patio if we have our dog?
Yep! We love furry friends on the patio.
Do I need a reservation?
Yes and no. If you want to avoid a wait, then definitely. If you have time, grab a drink at the bar and wait for a seat.
