We had questions about the menu, the boy at the register couldn't answer any of them. Omg, just ran across an amazing pizza place close to my home. Thunderbolt Pizza is so good and I can't believe it's so close and I hadn't noticed it before now. My wife and I were trying a Thai spot when we saw great looking pizzas being brought to people at outside tables so we had to go and give it a try. So glad we did. The place is pretty cool and bigger than expected. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well as some common tables in front of the entrance. Service was good. It's an order at the front counter and take a number to your table and they bring the food to you. We went with three family members and got two different pizzas and both were so good. One was a loaded pepperoni with a hot honey sauce and the other had ricotta cheese with pepperoni and pickled jalapeños (the red ones). Absolutely delicious We also ordered fried onion rings (which I did not try as I don't do onions) and fried zucchini sticks. The sticks were very good but I was thrilled with the dip as it had dill and I should have just asked for ranch. I'm told the onion rings were very good. They came with a honey mustard sauce dipper which went great with the zucchini sticks by the way. We saw some very good looking chicken wings being served to other tables and plan to try those next time. We had a pretty good meal at Thunderbolt Pizza. The Jay's Staple was amazing,v the red sauce and the toppings were so flavorful, loved it! The NYC White was just meh, the white sauce didn't have a lot of it and there was nothing really else on the pizza to carry it. The sides were solid too, we liked both the zucchini sticks and the onion rings, but surprisingly the zucchini sticks were definitely our favorite out to the two. The service was fast, and the ambience wasn't bad. While I can't say I recommend or would come back, I did like their sweet and spicy pizza. I think everything else was a miss. I also feel like most of the pizzas we had were burnt but it might also be intentional. Our appetizers were cold (mozzarella sticks and onion rings), probably because they were made way before the pizza was ready. We were waiting an hour or more for the pizza so I do feel like my review is harsher as it was not worth the wait. Usually these pizza types have that droopy soggy center inwards at the tip of the slice and you also get that burnt bubbly charr on the end which I'm not a fan of. Continues to be really good NY style pizza in Bixby Knolls. I did a carryout order in person, to take back to the nearby Ambitious Ales biergarten. A large 16" cheese pizza for $17, adding good quality pepperoni ($4) and pineapple ($1.50). Like how they charge different prices for a topping based on their cost, though would have gladly paid more for a lot more pineapple (it was pretty skimpy this time). The cheese was sparse (which isn't uncommon with NY style), and the sauce was excellent: flavorful, bit zesty, and enough to make it pronounced but not enough to make the crust soggy. The crust was worth eating down to the last bite, and the entire pizza was finished by the three of us. We enjoyed trying all the sauces and spices that were on the table. Everything tasted great and although they seemed very busy, they had a lot of staff on hand and everything came out pretty fast. We ordered at the front, we got our order number and found a table in the patio area where they have a large screen projector screen, heat lamps and both high and low seating areas. A staff member came out to check on us and to take an order for more drinks, which we then had to pay in the front before leaving. There is also a small seating area inside and a couple large tables by the entrance which can be used for larger groups. I only noticed one restroom which was heavily trafficked. The entire space also looks smallish but well used from every corner. It's kid and pet friendly (but I wouldn't recommend bringing big strollers as the space is narrow). I visited Thunderbolt Pizza on August 20th and had such a great experience! The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. The pizza had the perfect crust and every topping tasted fresh. We tried the Sicilian kiss which was one of our favorites, and the sliced and chopped salad, which was so good and came out perfectly with their house made ranch. What really made the experience stand out though, was the manager that was there that night. He was so welcoming, attentive, and kind, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. You could tell they truly care about the customers and take pride in the restaurant and the food. Thunderbolt Pizza exceeded my expectations. Great food, great atmosphere, and even better customer service. I'll definitely be coming back and would highly recommend giving them a try! read more

The food at Thunderbolt is fantastic, and honestly, that's what keeps me coming back every now and then. Unfortunately, the customer service with takeout orders has been really frustrating. I've now had the exact same experience on two separate occasions with two different employees. Most recently, I placed an order online and received a notification that it was ready. I went to the cashier, gave them my name, and was told it wasn't ready yet. No big deal. I sat down right up front, within plain view of the same employee, and waited. After about 15-20 minutes, I finally went back up and asked again. Sure enough, my order was ready and had apparently been sitting in the warmer. I have no idea how long it had been sitting there. What makes it especially frustrating is the lack of awareness and attentiveness. I was sitting right there the entire time, clearly waiting specifically for my order, and the employee knew that. He could see me while going about other tasks, yet at no point thought to check on the order or let me know when it was ready. A simple "Hey, your order is ready" would have been all it took. I normally wouldn't bother writing a review over something like this, but this is now the second time the exact same thing has happened with two different employees. Nobody was rude or disrespectful--it just feels like there's a lack of basic attentiveness when it comes to customers waiting for takeout orders. The pizza is genuinely great, which is why I keep coming back. I just wish the level of customer service matched the quality of the food. read more

I felt love at first bite and Thunderbolt has been on my top 5 for pizzas in Long Beach for quite some time now, along with The 4th Horseman, La'Antica, Thai Curry Pizza and LB Beer Lab. I met the owner, Jay Stebbins, when Thunderbolt first opened in 2020. He's from Brooklyn and wanted to bring NY style pizza here. So glad he did! He takes pride in the fermentation process of the dough and uses various herbs and ingredients to make some stellar pies. My friend was visiting town tonight and I decided to take him to Ambitious Ales. We decided to order food from Thunderbolt. We had the food delivered in 3 separate instances. In one instance the staff member delivered an order of wings. When I told him the order was incomplete, I was questioned and asked for a receipt. When I showed him the receipt, he moved to another table and removed an order of wings from other patrons and handed it to us. It is unsanitary to give food to strangers and then take it back and give it to me. I asked him if that's how they operate, giving food to others, later taking it back, and giving it to the right table. A couple of minutes later, I had gestapo managers Taylor and Christy searching for me. When I identified myself, they questioned if I had called their staff a "ret@rd." My friend and I were shocked. I described the situation and exactly what I said. The food being mishandled and then being falsely accused of using a slur, such a wild and awkward experience. I noticed Ambitious Ales now provides a disclaimer when ordering from Thunderbolt via QR code. Now it all makes sense. Regardless, you can't have restaurant managers coming over to another business and making wild accusations. Completely unacceptable. read more

I finally had a chance to visit Thunderbolt Pizza in Bixby and I had an.. experience. They're fortunately dog friendly so we brought the fur baby along and started off with some brews. I ordered one of their lunch specials which includes a beer and two slices of pizza. My boyfriend opted for boneless buffalo wings and a salad. They didn't have any dog friendly protein or food so I unfortunately couldn't order anything for my dog as I usually do when dining out. Service was meh. My boyfriend and I ordered a second round of brews and we wanted the same beer that I had got on my first round. However, they got confused and gave us both the draft that my boyfriend had on his first round, which I didn't like. I brought the beers up to the counter and told both servers working that they mistakenly gave us the wrong draft. Well, their resolution was to give me a confused stare and simply insist that they served me the correct draft. As a result, I walked back to my table holding the same brews I didn't want. As someone who's worked years in customer service, specifically within the food service industry, I would've hoped that they could've just swapped out the beers for the draft I actually wanted. I guess at certain establishments the customer isn't always right. Onto the food, I sampled one of my bf's wings and they were just alright although maybe that was his fault because who even orders boneless wings lol. Personally, the pizza was underwhelming to me. That's not to say that it was necessarily bad but it's just not something I would order again. I've noticed a recent trend in artisan pizzas within the food community and I'll be honest, this style of pizza isn't my cup of tea. Conclusively, I wish I could say that the infamous Thunderbolt Pizza knocked my socks off but that would simply be a lie. I had high hopes as I've been recommended this pizza joint by other Yelpers but it just honestly didn't suit my palate. I will say, if you enjoy this pizza then I'd recommend the pizza from Ten Mile Brewing as they taste and appear almost identical.
