We ordered a couple chopped cheeses, fries, onion rings, and chicken nuggets for the little one. Everything was delicious. The crispiness of all the fries foods were spot on. They offered up some delicious homemade sauces, and their cilantro one is bomb (not spicy but a little tangy). The chopped cheese was melty and delicious, and the bread had a nice chewy texture. I'm sorry, but this place was so bad. Everyone has been raving about it for so long, possibly because we just don't have a scene for NY-style sandwiches in Long Beach. However, this place doesn't do NY sandwiches justice. I got the chopped cheese and the philly cheese steak, both of which came with the same overcooked, overseasoned ground beef. I'm talking about this ground beef was gritty, crumbly, and just really unenjoyable. These were both served on rolls that were slightly stale and chewy, begging for a light toast to bring them back to life. Without enough cheese or sauce, these sandwiches were also dry.  I am so sorry to have to say all this, as I was personally excited by visiting this spot. I hope I went on an off day and that people have experienced higher quality meat and ingredients, but that just wasn't the case for me and I will not be back. read more

I've been wanting to try NYC Chop Cheese since they opened. Unfortunately, this first visit was rough enough to make curiosity feel like a mistake. I got the 10-inch chopped cheese combo. The sandwich had a few positives: good amount of beef, tender meat, cheese melted in well and the bread was genuinely great. Soft, chewy, flavorful and easily the best thing here. Everything after that started falling apart. The sandwich was rich and oily but didn't have enough seasoning, acidity or heat to balance it. There were faint hints of cumin and the salt level was fine, but overall it tasted like it was trying to coast on grease. The lettuce and tomato added nothing, and even the cilantro sauce couldn't cut through the oily aftertaste. If you do try it, add onions, pickles and jalapeños because the base sandwich badly needs backup. The fries looked good, then delivered absolutely nothing. Barely seasoned, smaller portion than expected and somehow had a weird burnt aftertaste despite looking normal. That takes effort. Service was the real disaster. The person helping me acted annoyed, like customers were an unfortunate side effect of running a restaurant. The menu board shows combo pricing for some items, like burgers, but not sandwiches, so the chopped cheese combo pricing was unclear. The drink situation was ridiculous. The board says $2.99 for a 24 oz drink and the soda machine was right there, but I was handed a 12 oz can with no heads-up that the machine wasn't available. That's not a substitute. Full size promise for a half-size reality. For $22.03 total, that made the whole combo feel even worse value-wise. Food took almost 30 minutes and it felt like my order sat around until it was convenient to bag it. I only got it when another customer who ordered after me was being helped. Add the flies hanging around the napkins and surfaces and this started feeling less like lunch and more like a health inspection waiting to happen. Parking is rough too since it's on a narrow, busy intersection, though there is paid parking across the street. Overall, the bread was great and the sandwich had potential, but potential doesn't carry bad service, bland fries, unclear pricing, a drink downgrade, a long wait and flies. Just what I expected it was FIRE!!! I loved the food in NYC and I didn't get a chance to try one of these but it is so delicious and Drue gave me awesome service and cooked the food very good! He took good care of me and also let me do onion rings/fries combo & try the sauces since it was my first time. I will definitely be coming back can't wish to bring my husband. Came here around 10:30pm on a Saturday. Yelp shows they close at 11pm, but I checked with the worker and they said they're actually open until 2am. First time here. I tried the Philly cheesesteak and the pastrami sandwich. They have seating inside and outside. Parking isn't the best, but I was able to find street parking. My only critique about the place would be the guy taking my order at the register . He had an AirPod in so he didn't fully listen to the customer order of no tomatoes & and my best friend ask for a Philly cheesesteak and received a chopped cheese . When I found out about this place, I thought of two things. The first was that now I had a place so close to home and not 2000 miles away in New York City. The second is the hours that this place is open. Sometimes I tend to work late nights, I'm gonna have to aim more to be here right before it closes to get a chop cheese sandwich, because they are so freaking good!!! It can be in a tough place to park at, but you should be able to find somewhere to park and walk to this spot. It's worth it. It's a really clean place and surprisingly they've been there for a year, but despite the fact that I missed the year I'm glad this place is around and in my head now 24/7. I haven't had a chopped cheese sandwich in many months. So that is exactly what I was having for dinner. My partner had the smaller version and I went with the 10 inch. I successfully downed that thing. We ordered combos, so she got the fries, and I got the onion rings. We also ordered mozzarella sticks that were very good. I thought that marinara sauce that came with it was all right. The owner brought us out every condiment that was made, including a secret sauce that my partner seemed to enjoy. Getting back to the sandwiches, they had onions, lettuce, tomatoes with beef and cheese. The bread reminded me of having a torta. The one thing that could match this place with the one back in New York is adding olive oil and vinegar to it. Don't give me wrong. I love it the way it was, but to see if it actually matched with the one back in New York, would be very interesting one day. First time trying it which is shocking due to how often I pass this location. Food was good I had the Philly cheesesteak without mayo and my gf has the crispy chicken with chipotle. Chicken has more of a crispy aspect than expected but was good. Fries were seasoned and went well with a side of chipotle. Liked my steak more than the chicken. They sell candy here and have that "New York bodega" look to them. Only complaint food took like 30 minutes due to online orders taking priority, parking on the street in the evening is near impossible unless you get lucky thankfully I walked, and the soda machine was broken so the combo my only option was a canned drink. Great spot for sandwiches with super friendly service! They have a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating so it's definitely a dog friendly spot. I tried the chopped cheese sandwich and thought it was really tasty and filling. The meat is nicely seasoned, the sandwich comes with enough cheese for every bite and is moist. So I would assume this is a bodega style perhaps? Friendly service people. Tiny deli case, and It's got very little seating. Which I think is part of the grab and go motif. However, it took a really long time for them to make the food. So it wasnt much of a grab and go. We stayed there and ate the food. So we just waited. Always wanted to try a New York chopped cheese sandwich, and got the chance to at this newly opened deli-style shop in Long Beach California. We took them to go, to eat at the beach. The experience was good, with the sandwiches tasting OK. NYC Chop Cheese shop opened in April 2025, bringing a well loved NY staple to Long Beach. The shop is not related to a pair of similarly named shops in Los Angeles (even though the names are strikingly similar and there is only one active website for the LA locations). The hours say it opens at 11 am, but they were cooking and taking orders a little before 11 when we arrived. It's a fast food set-up, where you stand in line to place and pay for your order (using Toast as the POS). There are a few indoor tables to dine-in, along with some outdoor seating. Everything is made to-order, so our two sandwiches took about 10 minutes. They do have a self-serve soda machine with Pepsi products. I've come to realize that I really like the taste and texture of eating a beef sandwich with processed cheese all around, on a good soft hoagie roll. That's what a chopped cheese sandwich ($12.99 for 10") is. What I learned is that the meat is ground beef, similar to a sloppy joe, and for that reason, I learnt that I prefer a sandwich with slivered steak. The meat was slightly seasoned and cooked along with chopped onions. The bread was very good (good supplier), soft but sturdy enough to hold the fillings. One has the choice of cheese, but American seems to be the standard and it was good on this sandwich, melted and plenty of it. Shredded lettuce and thin tomato were added on top...the sandwich needs to be eaten immediately...the lettuce becomes slimy pretty quickly. My wife got their crispy chicken sandwich with Buffalo wing sauce ($9.99 for 6"). She said it was fine, but it honestly didn't look that great. Was excited to try this place out. My son and I came in on a Thursday late afternoon. The walls are decorated from top to bottom with huge blown up pictures of scenes from New York. When you walk in, it feels inviting. I ordered an original chopped cheese sandwich which consisted of chopped ground beef, American cheese, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes and lettuce and mayo. My son ordered the crispy chicken sandwich which consists of crispy pieces of chicken, tomatoes, lettuce and mayo. We also ordered curly fries and jalepeno poppers. My sandwich was good. It didn't have the crunchy baguette bread crunch I was looking for but it was still good. My son said his sandwich was okay. The curly fries held its crunch which I was impressed with. We probably didn't start eating until 15 minutes after we got the food. The jalepeno poppers were perfect. Not too spicy, just right. And they're bigger than others I've had at different places. She asked us if it was our first time there and explained the menu to us and the favorites of customers. We both ended up getting the Philly cheesesteaks and splitting the curly fries. The Philly cheesesteaks were KILLER oh my gosh. The flavor was so good- honestly such a good hot sandwich for a cold day. The Chop Cheese was so good, chopped ground beef with bell peppers, onion and loaded with gooey cheese that was so tasty. We had ours with tomato and lettuce. Im a definite fan! The onion rings had the perfect crunch, friends had a seasoning on them that made them special. They give you this sauce, kinda greenish im not sure what it is but so freaking good. The poppers were the best I've ever had. The chopped cheese was delicious. The girl who works here put me on to the special sauce which I absolutely recommend.
