This little downtown diner is beautiful. I love the art deco aesthetic and for me it is especially fun to revisit downtown because I used to live there for a couple years. It's located on the ground floor of a high-rise and as mentioned it's really beautifully designed with a very large bar and a long row of booths and tables to choose from. They also have a very large private outdoor eating area as well so they have plenty of seating options. Parking in this area isn't too bad, they offer a valet in front or it's not hard to find street parking on the street the back. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out surprisingly fast. This was my first visit and it took me a minute to decide what I wanted to get because the menu is not very large, but has some great options on it. I ended up choosing the Chilaquiles. I thought they were very good and I enjoyed it very much, however, I wish there would've been a protein component to it because after a while it was just all chips. Really solid spot in DTLA for brunch tucked into a quaint building off of Broadway. Service is really friendly with down-to-earth people and food portions are pretty big for the price. I ordered the breakkie quesadilla and their bloody pico (think pico de gallo with a Bloody Mary seasoning twist) was a nice touch and it was really big, definitely had leftovers to take home. Pastries were really good too although $11 for their croissants I'd have to say is pretty steep (the chocolate croissant was good but not $11 good). Drinks were also good, I ordered the aloha which was a non-alcoholic drink with pineapple, yuzu and lime. And it really worked! Really nicely balanced. I enjoyed my meal at Moonlark's. I had a BLT with fries and an Arnold Palmer. I will say it was one of the better Arnold Palmer's I've ever had. The sandwich was good but pretty straightforward, nothing special. The service was good and the ambience was pleasant. Here's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars: the prices. My BLT was a pretty normal price but to upgrade from a salad to fries was $4. Ridiculous. But worse than the cost of fries, the parking is outrageous and they do not validate. It's $22 to valet. It basically turned my sandwich lunch into a $55 meal. If I had known and hadn't been running a little late, I would have parked in a $12-15 lot nearby and walked a couple blocks. So, now you know. The patio felt tucked away from the city with all the greenery and plants surrounding the space. It's located right next to the Hoxton Hotel lobby, which made it easy to find, and we were able to get street parking nearby. I ordered the latke + smoked salmon and it was absolutely delicious. My kids had the Daybreak Burger and loved it too. Everything tasted fresh and well made. One thing we especially appreciated is they're dog friendly! What an absolute VIBE for a delicious brunch in downtown LA. First, make a reservation if you're trying to get a seat on a weekend. Reservations are easy and straightforward. We had one for 2, at 11am on Sunday. We got seated right away. They're known for their build your own bloody and while it wasn't on the agenda for our brunch, they looked AMAZING. We split the eggs Benny, the flapjack stack and an order of the cool ranch hashbrowns. My hubby had a latte, I got a drip coffee. Service from start to finish was fast and friendly. My coffee cup stayed filled throughout and we didn't wait long for food. The Benny was perfect to split and the egg yolk was SO RICH and orange. A rarity for eggs anywhere nowadays. The sauce was super garlicky but delicious. The ranch has browns (plate or 3) were delish. Hot and crispy with a dusting of ranch seasoning. The flapjacks were EPIC and a stack of three. Fluffy and the perfect sweet bites after all the savory stuff we shared. I wish they would have had an option for a SINGLE pancake as a side as the stack of 3 was HUGE and we certainly didn't need the 3 of them for $17. A side option of one would have been perfect. You have the option to pay quickly at your table with a QR code, so that's what we did. The whole place was adorably decorated - a very chic and updated take on the classic diner. After 2 visits, I can say I moon-like (but not love) this dinette. It's been one of my go-to's now during my lunch break when I craving a little breakfast for lunch. Modern takes on diners seem to be trending, and Moonlark's definitely pulls off the look well. Love how the accent color is pink, and the clean retro interior certainly sets a good tone. But the portions to price ratio definitely isn't the same here as the old school diners. You're definitely paying a lot for what you get. Both visits, I ordered the Denver Omelette, which, by default, comes with a salad, not potatoes or fries. In fact, you have to pay extra to sub for fries, and they're just regular fries (not sweet potato or anything fancy)! The omelette itself is pretty good though, not too big or too small, and I love how consistent and smooth the egg is cooked. But also, it's almost $20 just for this (no upgrades). And $5 for a can of Diet Coke? Highway robbery. But hey, that's LA for you, right? Well, on my second visit, I also noticed a little something. The table was set with a mug and a glass in case you order coffee. The mug was actually kinda dirty and not cleaned thoroughly (see picture). I wasn't planning on ordering coffee, but I'm glad I didn't. A good reminder to always check your dishware no matter how aesthetic or clean the place looks! Service thankfully has been great both times. I've always been greeted warmly by the hosts and servers have been attentive. I'm always in and out super quickly. Now for the parking situation: honestly I work close, so I only walk to this place. There's called parking through the hotel (though that's pretty pricey), or you can find public lots a short walk away. In summary, if you want overpriced dining food in LA, Moonlark's is your spot. Just make sure to check your mugs, plates and silverware first. And be prepared to walk or search for parking. But will I be back? It was my first time visiting with my wife and my mother- and father-in-law. The place has a really nice atmosphere, with comfortable couches to sit on while waiting to be seated. Overall, the food was decent. I would say the plates are a bit expensive, but that's somewhat expected for a diner-style restaurant. I ordered the chilaquiles, and while they were good, the sauce could have been better in my opinion. It didn't taste like the authentic Mexican chilaquile sauce I'm used to. We had spent the earlier part of the morning walking around DTLA so we actually walked over 1.5 miles from where we originally parked to get here. Moonlark's is right by the Aztec Theater and you can find paid parking lots nearby to park or attempt the challenge that is street parking in DTLA. The establishment itself is nicely decorated in a vintage diner style and the service itself was polite and prompt. When we came in the morning ~ 9:30 am, the only seating available for us two was at the counter (where we ultimately sat), though there were many tables available so if you want a table, I'd suggest making a reservation as I think this is what happened. Latke + smoked salmon 2.5/5, this was not latke. This was however, fried rectangular potatoes pushed together to resemble a slice of bread. The egg on top was fine and there was quite a bit of salmon but ultimately, this was a let down for me. The booths are super cute and comfy, it has the feel of an upscale diner. The food is so delicious, our faves are the daybreak burger and the denver omelette! First time I came here, I was exploring downtown and almost passed it up. I noticed it upon passing, so I went in and gave it a try. I was impressed with the customizable bloody mary options, but opted for the coffee, because thatl let you know a lot about a place. The meal looks like a kids meal breakfast for almost $30... Sandwich was served with what tasted like kraft cheese and cheap turkey. Sandwich alone was $23 and even though I ordered without bacon and ham, fries cost extra. Fries and ice tea were the only decent items.
