    Spicy Chicken Sandwich
    Kelly M.

Came here for lunch seeking affordable eats with great reviews. Unfortunately doesn't hold up under scrutiny. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and the chicken was tough and chewy--not tender at all. It was so bad I wanted to quit eating it, but I felt obligated to continue since I'd spent money on it. A few hours after eating the sandwich, I was sent running to the bathroom. I wont extrapolate. I don't recommend. Chicken has bad texture. I won't be back.

Formerly Birdies, still the same great quality, amazing food with tons of flavors, good portion sizes, street parking available outside, very clean restaurant, seating available in a covered area. Friendly staff. And amazing donuts and coffee as well; will return and highly recommend.

Duchess is an awesome brunch spot located in the heart of downtown LA. The service was great. There was a bit of a line, but it was a busy Sunday, but they took our orders pretty fast and the food came out relatively quick. When you walk in it smells delicious a little subtle background music very nice ambience.. The highlight of my experience wasn't something I got it was something that my cousin got he got the lemon pepper chicken tenders and if you wanna talk about seasoning seasoned so perfect flavor packed in every bite and he got the three-piece and they were absolutely huge like all three of them could've been on their own sandwiches. They were so delicious nice warm, hot the chipotle, mayo, and the ranch only brought out the lemon pepper even more would highly recommend the chicken tenders. They were perfect. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and a cinnamon roll. Now the chicken sandwich was good great size good portions. My only issue with it is it wasn't spicy. It had great flavors seasoned beautifully. The bun was nice soft warm, melts in your mouth. The chicken was nice juicy crispy absolutely delicious. It just wasn't as spicy as I was expecting, but very delicious. And the cinnamon roll was peak so much flavor packed into it. It was a little bit warm. It was so delicious so good would 100% get both things again. Well, 100% be returning next time I'm downtown

Nashville hot Breakfast Sandwich w/ Chicken & Bacon
    Steve C.

Somehow, despite the excellent food, I found their service and customer interactions the biggest highlight here. I had the Nashville chicken breakfast sandwich and it was very good. Chicken cooked perfectly, Nashville spice was good but not obnoxious, and the breakfast goodies were solid. On second pass I'd stick with a traditional breakfast Sammie or a traditional chicken Sammie, but the food was executed well. Give them a shot. You won't be disappointed

    Lemon pistachio donut

Really liked this little coffee, donut, and chicken stand. We were looking for something to eat before we headed to a concert at Dodger Stadium. It's located in the theater district around the corner from the Mayan and the Belasco, so there's not a ton of parking in the area. Luckily we were able to find some street spots nearby on a Saturday afternoon. I had an original breakfast burrito with grilled chicken (instead of fried). It had a bacon cheese omlette inside with the chicken, as well as avocado and grilled onions. It was delicious, and really filling because it was solid protein, lol. I also purchase a lemon pistachio donut to go. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks along the lines of Sidecar donuts. The place also serves other chicken like wings & strips, and breakfast sandwiches. They make different coffee based drinks as well. Since it's tiny, the seating is very limited. A lot of the customers seemed to be getting their orders to go. We'll definitely come back again, especially if we're coming to a show at the Belasco.

We were headed to an event at Dodger Stadium and decided to stop at Duchess since it was nearby and had some solid reviews and I'm so glad we did! I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with cheddar, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and clearly made fresh to order. The bun was soft and fresh, the cheese was melty and flavorful, and every bite hit the spot. I got a side of fries, which were also really good, crispy and well seasoned. The sandwich was reasonably priced as well. To take home, I grabbed two donuts: the banana cream and the mini Oreo. While I really wanted to love them, they didn't quite do it for me. The banana cream had a very strong, artificial banana flavor, and the Oreo donut didn't stand out much, just kind of flat in flavor and texture. My friend ordered the breakfast burrito and said it was fantastic, so it's safe to say the savory food here is a strong point. Inside, the space is fairly plain with only a couple of tables, so seating is a bit limited and not ideal for hanging out. But what stood out just as much as the food was the service, both the male and female staff that were working were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and kind, which made the experience even better. Overall, I'd come back for that chicken sandwich any day, maybe skip the donuts next time, but definitely a spot worth visiting before a game.

Customer Service Danielle!!! Superb service, from entering Duchess until my visit was completed. Wonderful and enjoyable food and service!!!

    Hugs and Horchata was amazing

Great coffee. Attentive and very courteous. Great help with the menu and suggestions to try. Staff was very attentive and timely with order. Will definitely be here again. Also donuts looked amazing.

Small shop with doughnut and fried chicken. There is only a couple bar tables so mainly a takeout joint. The staff was super nice and was helpful with recommendations. Breakfast chicken sandwich jr. - Crispy fried chicken with a delicious mayo based sauce. In addition there wass an ooey gooey sunnyside up egg. So good. Would highly recommend, especially since the jr is already enough for me. Tots and coffee that came as a combo was a good bonus. The doughnuts were not my favourite. Flavours were not too exciting for me.

I got the last pistachio lemon donut and it was incredible!! They're freshly made by the baker in the morning. Once he leaves for the day- that's it for donuts. I was lucky to have snagged it. Coffee was also yummy, I got the iced hazelnut latte. Customer service was wonderful. The girl who helped us was very friendly, helpful, and detail oriented. I'll have to come back to try their savory offerings someday; the chicken sandwiches looked great. All in all a great experience. Parking can be a little tricky like much of the rest of DTLA, so you're better off walking.

Great little breakfast spot on Olympic in DTLA. Great coffee options and breakfast sandwiches with the added bonus of a delicious dessert. I had a caramel apple crunch donut and a strawberry matcha latte but saw the breakfast sandwiches and they look delicious and smell great too! I would definitely recommend this spot for a quick brekkie. No real table service which makes it quick and probably better. The matcha latte was very rich and great tasting- I think they use real strawberries

I want to update my review about the location of Zinc that I wrote over a decade ago. Since my…read moreinitial review, I've continued to come to this restaurant. It remains a unique addition to the neighborhood, as well as a good place to grab some interesting dishes. Since the opening of this particular business, the Zinc chain has opened in a few other locations. Those locations are much newer in not only their establishment but their design. This is not to say that this is still not an interesting, well-designed business, but, with time, it has become a little bit rundown. I hate to say it, but that is the truth. This location could really use an update and perhaps a deep cleaning. I was, in fact, kind of surprised at the condition of this business, for example, on the way towards their restrooms. From my opinion, it needs an clean up and an update. Also, the litter that surrounded some of the outdoor tables where I was sitting at my most recent visit was very surprising. This is just something to keep in mind if you're coming here for your first visit. In terms of what they offer for food, though it has evolved a bit over the years, they still have a great, heath-based menu, with some very interesting choices. For all of you vegetarians and vegans out there, you will, for sure, be able to find some tasty food to eat. Once upon a time, this restaurant was impacted with tons and tons of people. It was constantly full with people either going to the bakery and/or sitting down for table service. Shortly past their opening each day, there would be a line of people waiting for service. This seems to have changed, however. Meaning, if you're looking for an interesting place to eat, with some good dishes, at the far Southeast side of DTLA, near the lofts district, and you want a place without a long wait to get a table and/or your food, this may still be your place to go.

This was, without a doubt, the worst experience I've ever had at Zinc. I've been coming here on and…read moreoff for the past four years and have never experienced customer service this bad. We started with coffee. My boyfriend ordered a mocha, and I ordered a salted caramel latte. His drink was fine, but mine had absolutely no flavoring. As a former barista, I could immediately tell it was just a plain iced latte. I politely asked the waitress if they had forgotten the syrup, and she insisted, "There is syrup in it, but I can ask them to add more." I knew there wasn't any syrup, but I didn't want to argue, so I said, "Sure, please add more." A few minutes later, the manager came over and told me they actually didn't have salted caramel. So I asked if I could just get a regular caramel latte instead. She then told me they couldn't make that either because they were out of caramel sauce, the very reason they couldn't make the salted caramel in the first place. So why hand me a plain iced latte and tell me it had syrup when you knew you didn't even have the ingredients? Why not simply come back and let me know you were out and ask if I'd like something else? Instead, I was given a regular latte at the price of a flavored one (plus they later charged me for the syrup they never even added). For context, I had originally ordered a dirty chai, which they also couldn't make. So that's two drinks they didn't have, yet no one thought to communicate that before serving me something completely different. When I told the manager I'd look back at the menu for another option, she responded, "Okay... are you going to tell the waitress what drink you want?" I just looked at her, confused, and said, "Well... yeah?" How else was I supposed to order a replacement? The interaction came across as unnecessarily rude. Then it was time to order food. My boyfriend ordered the truffle burger, and I ordered the French toast. The waitress came back a few minutes later and said they couldn't make the French toast. No problem, I told her I'd also have the truffle burger. She acknowledged it, wrote it down, asked how I wanted it cooked, and what side I wanted. I ordered it medium-well with fries. So both burger orders were sent in at the same time. About 20 minutes later, the food arrived, but only my boyfriend's burger and an extra side of fries that we never ordered. At that point, we didn't even bother saying anything about the fries because we were trying to avoid making things more difficult. We waited another 20 minutes (even though it was so slow). My boyfriend finished eating, and my burger still hadn't come out. Finally, we asked for the check and requested that my burger be removed since it never arrived. That's when the waitress told us I had never ordered a second burger. I was honestly speechless. I reminded her that she had taken my order after telling me they couldn't make the French toast. She had written it down, asked how I wanted it cooked, and asked what side I wanted. Her response was that she thought I meant only my boyfriend's burger. That explanation made no sense because my boyfriend's order had already been taken before she took mine. It honestly felt like we were being gaslit over something as simple as ordering a burger. To make matters worse, after we paid and were finally leaving, I looked at the receipt and realized I had been charged for the salted caramel latte that I never actually received. We had to go back yet again. Thankfully, a different employee, not the waitress or the manager helped us. They were friendly, understanding, and quickly corrected the charge. I'm not sure if management has changed, but this entire experience was unnecessarily frustrating from beginning to end. Everything that could have gone wrong did. Honestly, I should've taken the "B" health grade posted on the window as a warning. We ended up walking over to Blue Bottle next door for coffee instead, and I'd absolutely recommend going there if you're looking for a place that actually values customer service. After four years of coming to Zinc, this experience has me seriously questioning whether I'll ever be back.

We started with the arugula salad, Louisiana shrimp aguachile, and cream biscuits. Those biscuits? Listennnn. Order them. Fight over them if you have to. lol They were THAT good! For the main dishes, we shared the French toast, chilaquiles, and shrimp and grits, along with house-made bacon and butterball potatoes. The French toast and bacon were my favorites by far. I called a month ago to make a reservation for July 12, and af tree r going back and forth with Kylie in the private dining, sent an email on 6/20 letting her know to cancel as they were inflexible for our group. Shame on them as we went elsewhere to sent the $2,000+ for a birthday brunch. Lo and behold, I am now being charged $275 for no reason. Does this place practice fraud or just bad communication? I expect to Have my money refunded back to me asap. This has been the worst restaurant experience I've ever dealt with from the snooty reservation process to the now fraudulent charges on my card. I expect to get have a call back ASAP,
