My friend and I were looking for a cute brunch place and stumbled upon Blu Jam. We chose to sit outside, which isn't entirely outside, but rather more in an atrium. The weather was perfect for it though. Once we were seated, we were able to order all of our food and drinks off the QR code, as they are a serverless restaurant. We decided to go with a pot of French press coffee, which came with cream and was perfectly delicious. I went with just a small à la carte order of two eggs, some bacon, and some toast; my friend ordered to build your own omelette, and we also ordered a plate of the lemon crêpes to share. My friend did have to send back her omelette as it just tasted kind of funny. And our lemon crêpes were a bit dry on the edges, but the berry compote on the side helped quite a bit. My eggs, bacon, and toast was perfect though. Overall, it was a pretty good brunch. They were very quick to fix her omelette, food came out as soon as it was ready, so everything was very fresh, and we noticed quite a few takeout orders while we were there so they must be a fairly popular place. read more

Stopped for brunch since my husband was working nearby. Service was kind but pretty minimal that day. We were seated and given a nice vase of water. They explained that ordering and payment happen online or up front inside, so it felt a bit self-serve after that. Drinks and food took longer than expected to come out. I'm going to be honest. When I first walked into Blu Jam Cafe in Downtown LA, I was already judging the place. I don't know what it was, but I just wasn't feeling it at all. I honestly thought this spot was going to be mid and probably another overrated DTLA brunch place. But the second the food hit the table. Everything changed. I ordered a burger, salad, French toast, and an Arnold Palmer. The burger was cool. Nothing bad, but nothing amazing either. Just decent. The salad was good too. BUT THAT ARNOLD PALMER?!?!?! 10/10. Legit probably the best Arnold Palmer I've ever had in my life. Super Bomb! And the French Toast?!?!?! BRO... WTF. Easily the best French toast I've ever had and probably some of the best in all of Los Angeles, not just Downtown LA. That French toast literally saved this place from getting 3-4 stars from me. I had a wonderful experience at Blu Jam Cafe. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the Vegan Tostada. The tostada was full of flavor and seasoned to perfection. The tofu tostada was very crispy and crunchy which was delicious! The potatoes were also cooked perfectly. My son had the hangover scramble, sourdough toast and Blueberry Jam. He enjoyed his food also. He wanted a container of the Blueberry Jam to take home. We also ordered a Mimosa, Matcha Latte and a regular Latte. They were all delicious. I love the large mugs they put the hot drinks in. The service was good. You have to order from a QR code at your table. The food came out pretty quick. This location is located between Broadway and Spring Street. You can enter on either street. They have outside and inside seating available. I can't wait to visit this location again. read more

We sat outside and I really enjoyed it because you get this kind of indoor outdoor feel. I got the Tuscany Scramble and wow it was really delicious. If you like pesto, you would love this a lot, I didnt know what to expect because I had nothing like this before, but the description was accurate. Look how presentable the plates are! The food was good, but not great. I'd say the quality was just better than average! The menu is expansive though, and I'd be curious to return and try other plates/drinks. They have sangria, and I definitely want to try it next time. The service however, was so great! This neat little cafe is tucked in a food hall-ish area that looked like it could've been a train station of sorts back in the day. We came here on a Thursday around 12pm and it wasn't too busy. There's paid parking lots across the street, but it's in DTLA, so the area feels a little urban. We were met with wonderful service from the moment we entered. They have some seating inside and outside, but it's a lot cooler inside their restaurant than the "patio" area. Also, there's no restroom at this place. You have to ask for a ticket and go over to the security guard who will unlock the doors to the publicly shared restroom for you. Anyways, we got the breakfast carbonara and chilaquiles. I liked that they offered us an amuse bouche of a berry crepe. The crepe was really good and probably was the star of our whole meal. The breakfast carb was more of a risotto/mushy fried rice with peas, eggs, and pancetta. It tasted alright, but we couldn't help thinking about similar it was to fried rice. The chilaquiles was alright. The chips were on the thinner side, which caused them to get super soggy really fast with the watery sauce. While the flavors were there, the texture was not. We tried blu jam because of the reviews and proximity to our hotel. We stopped in for breakfast which was great. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant does not have servers but a hostess and then bussers/food runners. You can either order from your phone through a QR code or at the front station which I thought was interesting. We ordered a fresh squeezed oj which was delicious and definitely freshly squeezed. The iced latte had a great strong flavor. The only complaint is I drank it too fast. The breakfast sandwich had a perfect crisp to the bread. The egg was cooked spot on to medium so had a slight yolk dripping. The bacon was very crispy and overall it was an incredible breakfast sandwich. The crunchy French toast is breaded with a ground up cornflake. Modern diner vibes with a ton of seating, classic diner menu options and a pretty good selection of cafe drinks also. Went this Sunday morning and my boyfriend and I just ordered separately from our phones to make it easier. Basically his food came and I was still waiting for mine, and when I asked about it they were insanely confused it's like no one knew what was going on. So it was really confusing and then I just ate straight out of the boxes and the bag. It was like really bad. The food was also really bad. My boyfriend and I both got an omelette, both were very bad. Only recommendation would be the French toast. I'm very disappointed. This Blu Jam location in Downtown LA was okay. My friend and I ate here on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. In terms of service, don't expect too much since you'll be ordering using your phone and provided qr code. It also feels like your ordering using self checkout at a fastfood or grocery store. Unfortunately, I lack a sense of hospitality from the servers since they never asked my friend and I or anyone on how the customers were doing or if everything was okay. I can't pretend it's okay when it's not. The ambiance seems crammed due to the narrow spaces between tables and lighting could be better. It also took approximately 20-25 minutes for our orders to be served. The brunch burger was alright and nothing too spectacular. While the diced potatoes looked appealing, it ended up becoming mushy, salty and not satisfying. Very grateful for the security staff available throughout the day observing the entrance. LA downtown homeless problem is huge and having someone available whose full-time job it is to sit and protect customers on the outside patio from roaming zombies is an important part of this restaurant life, continuing to operate and customers having a good experience. He had to chase away three people from bothering me and my party within an hour of us being here . Thank you. Overall, it's a very nice breakfast place with quite a unique patio that I enjoyed, but there are big problems. Food quality and the actual meal quality. The restaurant uses very cheap ingredients, including eggs. For a breakfast restaurant I think having good quality eggs is critical. Their omelette yolks stink, literally. That usually happens with cheapest, poorly fed hens. In addition, every single dish we ordered the chefs have gotten wrong. The staff were very accommodating at fixing the errors but as it is with Blu jam's approach of not having waiters finding someone to fix it was an issue, as always. Unfortunately, the service is not what you'd expect if your spending $85 on breakfast for 3 people. I don't like the ordering concept. I don't believe they take cash which is what I originally brought to pay. After you order, you're asked to tip without even being waited on first. I left a $5 tip because the food was brought to our table and the server never came back to ask if we needed anything or if we were satisfied with our meals. I ordered the Breakfast Quesadilla which had Braised Chicken Tinga, veggies and Egg. It also came with a side of crispy potatoes which was probably my favorite part. The flavor on the Tinga is mild, I personally think it lacked flavor and salt. For being braised, the chicken wasn't as tender as expected. My son ordered the popular Churro French Toast which he quit eating because he said it was too sweet. I tried it and it's more of a pastry for your coffee since it's not served with syrup. I thought it was pretty good. My mother ordered the California Omelette which she liked. The food is okay but, there wasn't anything that stood out to me.
