Came in on a Sunday at 9:30AM it was not busy when we sat down. We should have know the service was going to be bad when our waitress messed up our drink order. We then proceeded to wait for over thirty minutes as the restaurant filled up. Our waitress spent more time yelling are her staff then checking on her tables. The good good breakfast is truly an elusive commodity around here. While we have no shortage of breakfast joints, diners, and diner wannabees, a true standout has yet to come to the older suburbs north of Philadelphia and south of the turnpike. Still, we keep looking. We'd like to find some place that serves up something a little better and more creative than just the standard eggs, pancakes, and French toast affair found throughout this region. And if only someone around here would features a real homemade corned beef hash. If I miss New England for only one thing, it's that. Yesterday, during the big snowstorm, we decided to give the Moonlight Diner another chance. Mrs. Roadside remembers it as the Kenyon Diner, where she and her high school friends would tumble into after her late night bacchanals. Since then, the diner changed hands and names a few times. I can't say for sure, but I also suspect that despite its current appearance, a real prefab structure once stood at this location. Today, you'd have great difficulty discerning any original features. Only the general footprint of the place indicates the possibility of any real diner heritage. The only other time we visited this diner -- about six years ago -- we left disappointed. The smoke in the air and the blandness on our plates relegated the place to the "avoid" category, which given the diner's proximity to the house, gave us no great pleasure. While we couldn't walk there, we might have passed it by once a week on average. About a year or so ago, we saw the sign change yet again. A couple years ago we noticed still more renovations going on, and about a year after that, another name change. With plans to go out and buy our Christmas tree yesterday, I suggested another visit, and Mrs. Roadside agreed. Indeed, for diner purists, the general look of the place inside and out won't do much to make the heart go aflutter. The Moonlight Diner has a slightly Mediterranean look and feel, but it does have a counter and a general welcoming atmosphere. We did enjoy our breakfasts, though. I had banana pancakes and pork roll, Mrs. Roadside had the French toast, and the child had a chocolate chip pancakes. We brought our own real maple syrup, which is de rigeur for any true road warrior who wants to fully enjoy their breakfast. Nothing spoils a pancake faster than the corn-based syrup glop that most places serve, which indeed came with the meal. Thumbs up for the coffee as well, and the service, which I believe came by way of the owners themselves, rounded out the whole experience and took the Moonlight off our "avoid" list, hopefully for good. We were here for breakfast on 4/8/2023. The food was good as well as the service but before we were completely finished with our meal someone came over and started to take our plates away. Asked her not to since we weren't finished. My husband got up to use the restroom which he said was totally disgusting and dirty when he got back. While he was away from the table the person came back and tried to take my half full cup of tea away. There were plenty of empty tables and there was no wait. Sad to say we won't be back. read more

This is my first time here. It is easy to drive past because of the intersection where they are located. My stomach is so happy right now. Visiting the area for a College tour and food was a necessity after a few hours of listening to sales pitches. We found this diner via Yelp and decide to give it a try. We got Burger, Lox and Vegetable Omelette. Service was fine and our waitress was attentive and even gave us recommendations, so 5. The food overall was a 3. Bathroom was clean if not tightly spaced so 4. Our table and area where we were seated was clean, though the decor could use an upgrade, so 3. The one thing I really did it like was not getting a receipt. I paid by credit card and the guy made me write the tip on the back of the bill and I never saw the final charge since I did not get a receipt so, 1 Overall, we gave this diner a 3 rating, which might be tough since we were just passing through but I am being honest. In hindsight, I wondered if I should have tried the Gyro but I have a spot in Queens NYC where the Gyros are off the chart so perhaps it is best I did not since my judgement might have been tougher. read more

I took my husband and 2 kids there on Sunday morning. First, the place was super clean and very well lit. We were greeted and seated right away. Everyone was so friendly. My son took interest in the cars they had displayed and the waitress, Natalie (I believe), took him and let him hold the cars and check them out. The food was great! Usually get chicken croquettes during lunch hours (only a real diner can offer the real deal). Always wanted to try the Mediterranean specials on Friday nights for the falafel. Service is always super quick and efficient. Servers and bussers hustle to keep things moving and clean. The manager, always assumed he was the owner, keeps a watchful eye on things making sure service is clicking and jumps in to help when needed. Went here for a quick dinner tonight. We were greeted promptly and told to sit anywhere that we'd like. There was only one other person in there around 7:30. The waitress quickly came with menus and took our drink orders. I ordered a Rueben sandwich with fries, my husband ordered a fish sandwich with fries and our son ordered pancakes and sausage. While we were waiting they had books and puzzles for the kids so we read a book. Our food came pretty quick and was hot when it arrived. My corned beef was real corned beef like thickly sliced and seemed to be grilled a little before put in the sandwich- it was pretty good. The fries were really crispy and good. I also tried my husbands fish sandwich which was pretty good as well. Not a big fan of pancakes but the sausage they serve is the big fat kind which is good. The waitress was attentive but not annoyingly so. Bill came to 27 bucks. All in all it was a pleasant experience and would stop again if I was in the area. A regular old diner, which is a refreshing alternative for this neighborhood. No froo froo frills, just food, not too expensive, served fairly quickly. The breakfast I had here was good and exactly what I expected from diner breakfast. They advertise 'Falafel Friday', which I tried and found to be bland and dry. This place is amazing! As I sit here eating my middle eastern salad, gyro and hummus I decided to yelp. Not in the mood for middle eastern? Have no fear! This is also a regular diner with a great selection of everything you'd expect of a diner but there is a big difference. Everything is made absolutely fresh and with pride, the owner has true pride in what he makes and greets his customers in a warm manner. Fridays are falafel Friday. I'm from Jersey, so I have been to my fair share of diners. my girlfriend and I stopped in on Sunday morning for breakfast. Welcoming atmosphere, mainly couples, seniors and families with children. Owner / host was very friendly and seated us right away. Service was quick, efficient and very friendly. Both of us ordered simple breakfasts and everything was prepared to order and when we left the plates were totally empty - what more can I say? Aside from the waitress, they have a gentleman who will refill coffee throughout the diner intermittently, which is a nice touch. Last but not least, their prices are very reasonable. Other area diners would have charged $2-3 more per entree for pretty much the same thing. Overall, this is a very nice little place on a Sunday morning. Found this gem today. Parking in Philly is a nightmare so when we found this diner to replace the Oak Lane Diner, we were super happy. Parking lot is spacious and safe. Soda is good. Breakfast is available all day, at least it was the Sunday we were here. Omelets are great, home fries are great, and the breakfast sandwich my mom got was great. Going out to breakfast is one of my favorite things to do. What a pleasure to have coffee served to you along with a hot plate of your choice of early morning favorites. Moonlight Diner is less than 2 miles from our house and every time we go the food and the atmosphere only gets better. We ordered pick up and when we received the food and opened the containers the wraps where split open and looked like they where just thrown in there. And the one wrap was a chicken wrap and we got a stk one and the stk was burnt. Also the bun on the brg we orderd looked like it was smashed down . Also all the sandwitchs we order we expose to come with chips and we didn't receive any. I work in a restaurant and i would never dare to send my food out presented in such a disheveled manner . I didn't notice much hand washing from the gentleman they had busing tables, cleaning the bathrooms, handling the coffee/drink cups, sneezing and setting the tables with new silverware. The owner could also be heard yelling at employees and a woman I assume was his wife. It wasn't crowded so it didn't seem to be a stressful service. And to top it off there was a foreign object in my waffle, maybe plastic or a bristle from some type of brunch. Not 1 to complain much I ate some, paid and resolved not to come back. read more

WOW! I have been DYING for falafel, and, even though there is another Greek restaurant near my office, I stumbled into the Moonlight (actually, I RAN, because I saw their "FALAFEL FRIDAY" sign out in front). I was sooooo happy that I did! I called ahead and ordered the falafel which, I was suprised to hear, was in a wrap with lettuce, tomato and tzatziki sauce. It also came with fries and soup for only $6.99! WOW! In addition, the waitress who took my order and waited on me when I picked it up, was so friendly and gracious. My lady and I have been coming to Moonlight diner at least once or twice a month for the last year. It has become a tradition of sorts as somewhere to easily start our Sundays with a tasty breakfast, a cup of coffee (tea for her) and conversation. Katia and Sam (owners) are there to greet us with a smile each time and both hustle to make sure every customer is taken care of. Also in attendance is their busser, Rich, who is as enthusiastic and friendly as they come and always takes a second to say hello as he hustles by. He remembered our names after the first time meeting us and hasn't forgotten them yet. The diner surroundings are very clean (including the bathroom!) and cozy. Just big enough to serve about 100 people but still small enough that you don't feel you're forgotten about, even at their busiest times. We have only been there for breakfast so far and have never been disappointed. The omelettes are huge and full of ingredients (I get the Garden Omelette). She usually gets the breakfast wrap with spinach, eggs and cheese. The waffles and pancakes are a good choice too. If you like your bacon crispy, just let them know... Recently, we signed a lease that puts us a mere .2 miles from their front door and are excited to be able to walk to Moonlight on the weekends! Great job guys! read more

Where to start... the coffee : clear as day asked the waitress if the coffee was watery, she said "no I'm a big coffee person, it's not watery" surprise it was watery. Next, get our cups of orange juice the cup was dirty. Then, go to mix my watery coffee... guess what? Spoon was also dirty. Theeeeen, get our food... wasn't terrible but, not great the pork sausage was undercooked, the french toast was mediocre. The home fries I asked for with cheese, green peppers and onions. The sliced cheese on top was cold and the peppers and onions were raw, to top it all off almost $6 for the home fries. Needless to say I will not be returning here. finally my son didn't even eat his breakfast I asked for a to go box and she brought me a tiny container for a whole breakfast... Been here a million times - they have a huge menu, and they don't judge me when I order french fries for breakfast. They have my FAVORITE local fries. The service is good and the people are nice, even though the owners (I think) look pretty scowl-y (which I like). The guy that busses the tables is the happiest dude.
