I've been there multiple times and food was over all pretty good. I loved the pretzel bites and wings!! The ribs were good too. The chicken drummies are okay, I personally don't like the breading but if you are looking for some good breaded fried chicken they would be perfect. The Cajun chicken sandwich was not the best, it resembled a fast food chicken sandwich. The little moonies were also okay, I was thinking that they were more cheese curd like with ham, but they are more like a ham ball breaded and fried with a bit of cheese. They were good, just not what I was expecting. Overall I would recommend going and at least trying moonlight, I think it is one of the better options in this area. read more

I have never written a negative review before but after the horrendous experience we had at this establishment I feel I must. Yesterday my friend, her 24-year-old daughter from Nashville and I stopped for a drink to celebrate my friend's birthday. The server took our drink order and then another server came back to the table and said she needed to verify my friend's 24-year-old daughter's ID. About 10 minutes later the server still had not come back with the ID and we asked her about it, she replied that they were still working on it. We wondered what they were working on since it is a Tennessee Real ID. Now 20 minutes of waiting, the server finally brought over 2 of the 3 drinks we ordered and again, no ID. We questioned why it was taking so long with the ID and she curtly replied that there were still trying to verify the ID. We assured her that it was a legitimate ID and all they should be able to scan an out of state ID easily. She became very defensive and told me that I was being rude to her, which I was not. I asked her if I could speak to a manager, and she told me I could go talk to one of the bartenders. We asked her to bring our bill and the ID and she then said, "well by your behavior something is obviously wrong". There is another recent review posted with the same issue regarding an out of state ID. They are a bar and should be able to verify out of state ID's. Bottom line, we were completely disrespected and treated horribly by our server. They did not value us as a customer and in fact could have cared less about us. Being on the lake is a huge advantage for Moonlite. It is the place to go on the Whitefish chain for nightlife and it has plenty of dock space to park your boat. Its usually busy during the summer months and its hard to find a table on the patio on nice days. The food is average, but the service is the worst. The staff likes to ignore you if you are at the bar waiting for a drink. Not good. read more

Disclaimer: **This review is solely based on the atmosphere and the nachos.** The atmosphere is fantastic. I don't live near water and this lake makes me really wish I did. Moonlite bar has a great patio to sit and watch the boats and look at the lake. It also has great tv's inside in case it gets too cold or you want to watch a game. Now for the nachos. They were served and I thought "What the heck is this sh*t"as the top had a bunch of unmelted shredded cheese. I thought I was being served a cold, crappy plate of nachos. Boy was I wrong. Underneath the unmelted cheese is layers of absolute awesomeness. Melted cheese, delicious ground beef, lettuce and olives. I was sold. The bartenders inside don't wart your service even if a group of 25+ on a bachelor weekend want to blow their money on them...even after being ID'd at the door. They were actually rude and continuously rolled their eyes at us. Sounds lame but true. Moral of the story we left without paying them HUNDREDS of dollars...so take it for it is. read more

Bad experience! Came from TX with hubby to reminisce his childhood family vacation and watch the sunset from the back deck of the restaurant. We got tired of waiting for waitress. My husband and son went to bar to get our drinks. The female bartender /manager carded my 22 year old son and came to the conclusion that it was fake and refused to serve him. My husband intervened vouched for the validity of his ID showed her his Texas license and she didn't like the look of that one either. She didn't believe my husband or son and refused to serve our son. My son even had his pictured passport on his phone and she still did not believe him. Sadly what should have been a memorable Father and son experience toast in the sunset was replaced with a sour note of being basically called liars. Needless to say we didn't stay for dinner. I have eaten at Moonlight Bay for at least once every year for the past 10 years when my family comes up north. It's always fun to go out to eat and Moonlight bay has great views, access from the water, and a wide selection on their menu. However, from my experience in trying various dishes, I find that the food is always mediocre. If you're looking for somewhere that fills you up, is convenient, and cheaper than other options from the water, Moonlight bay will do the trick. P.s. The water tastes weird. read more

We absolutely loved this place!! We were told to go here by a waitress at another restaurant, even!! You enter and walk down a big staircase in to the bar area. Nice touch. This is the third time we showed up with a larger group 14, but we call ahead. Seated ourserves, and were visited by our waitress for drinks. Giving her some she paid attention when each set of guests arrived and took their drink orders. Then the turtle crawl back to our section stated. Orders finally taken, no offer for drink or soft drink refills as offered, even after food came. Maybe she did not like our end of the table! Food was ok, and 5 shrimp dinner contained fore than a 1-2 bite butterfly shrimp. No, we have no idea where they were from. Others at table walked to bar to get drinks/refills and were perturbed. When we finally tracked our waitress down to get checks, it's was a long enough wait to get our cc's back where 4 of us went to look for her and found her bewildered staring at a cc porcessing maching with papers and cc's lying around. She was able to give half of the cards back with a wrong copy of the bill so we each checked our receipt to be sure the right food and cc# were matched. Moonlight bay has a wonderful view of the bay from the patio. And the beers are cold, when they finally show up. And the drinks are pretty good, if you can flag down a waitperson to bring them. The food is average, and that is being quite generous. Actually, if there were any competition in the crosslake area I would be honest and say that gas stations serve better food. But it's crosslake, where there are absolutely no decent restaurants. Great views, great drinks, bad service, and avoid the food. I wish I could say there were great choices nearby but there aren't. I was vacationing in the area and had a great meal with friends to live in Crosslake on Thursday 10/9/19. They recommended Moonlite Bay...and they were "spot on"! I was in the mood for steak and ordered the sirloin special with tots. The steak was done to perfection and the tots were crispy and nicely seasoned. When I come in from out of town I always look for somewhere with a great view and great food. Though they have a great patio with a beautiful view of the lake, the food and service fell extremely short. The staff was rude and seemed annoyed anytime we asked for help. The food also was not quite up to my standards. I tried the walleye, which had no flavor and the rice wasn't even fully cooked. Our restaurant of choice when we are in the Crosslake area. We often go more than once a week! Parking is ample and there are a few spots that offer a little shade-just in case you bring a pet along. Which brings me to my only complaint, there are no pets allowed-even when eating outside on the deck. Our dog travels everywhere with us and we hate to leave him in the car while we eat. Other than that, this place is awesome. Prices are average for the area. We always get an order of fried pickles with our meal which are always great. They have a wide selection of "wraps" that are reasonably priced, plus they are big enough to split if you aren't starving. We have never eaten inside the actual building, we always sit outside on the huge deck and watch the boats come in. The tables are nice and have sun protection and we have never wished we sat inside. Service has always been good and the wait time for food is on par with any professional restaurant. Overall an awesome place with good food and good prices! read more

We go here at least once a year and have for years except during the times they have been down for fires. It has changed over the years and I think it is the best it has ever been right now! They have great drink specials, it is a long boat ride but we have a huge group 18 plus 7 kids sometimes more and they can always accommodate us and are one of the rare places up there that anytime takes reservations. This year was one of the first years because of heat/weather we ate inside and it was so nice and cool and they put us back in a corner room so even though we weren't all at a big table together it was still very nice. Unfortunately we adults at the 3 different tables didn't get drinks or food at the same time so people were on different rounds and finishing at different times but the food was great- everyone was very happy with their drinks and their food and nobody not one person had anything brought out wrong except a few side sauces were forgotten so in a group that big that was amazing! They have WiFi now which was very nice for all the kids and their iPods and iPhones to keep them busy and entertained! The atmosphere and log look is very Minnesota! The view from the outside patio is also beautiful especially for sunsets! read more

I will not return to this bar for two reasons: 1) It is so filthy your shoes stick to the floor, (even around the billiard and entertainment areas, and 2) tonight when we left the table to go to the entertainment area, we returned a short time later (15 mins) to find our table cleared including all our drinks (including two that were untouched) our jackets and reading material missing, and someone else sitting at the table who knew nothing about our stuff or where it had gone. We soke to our waitress, who, it turns out, had cleared out table, thrown away our newly bought news and magazine, and deposited our clothes behind the counter. We were able to retrieve our clothes, and a food stained magazine, but we got the message -" GET OUT when you leave so I can get more money!" We will NOT be returning. read more
