Yay! We have a new roof! After Terrence finished patching the part of our roof that we were both concerned about back in May, we did not communicate again until he emailed me on July 29th to ask if it was okay for the work to begin the following Tuesday, August 2nd. Going back to April, when we first spoke, Terrence was upfront that he did not know when the work would begin simply because weather cannot be accurately predicted. We had no issue with that and had the utmost confidence that he would take care of business. Fast forward to the 30th and we chatted over the phone about what color roof we wanted. Our house has been painted gray the last two times so we asked for something that would go well with gray and also keep out as much heat as possible. At 9:30am, the tear-down crew arrived. We had moved our vehicles out of the driveway to make room for their truck. By 12:30, our old roof was gone. At around 2:30, most of the supplies for the new roof including our gutter guards (additional cost), roof vents, lumber, and shingles. Most items were staged on the roof while some was staged in our driveway. Then the work began. They worked late in the afternoon before leaving for the day. They returned the next morning and went straight to work. Because our roof was half-naked and there was a slim chance of precipitation, Terrence worked late into the evening by himself by headlamp to make sure that all exposed areas were covered with Visqueen to prevent any chance of water damage. By the end of the day on Thursday, the work was done and all that was left to do was the final inspection by the City. I received an email from Terrence that a member of his team would be putting up a ladder so the Inspector could climb onto the roof. We didn't need to be home. As luck would have it, the Inspector arrived just as we were leaving for lunch. He wanted to first inspect our smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. This was in spite of the fact that we had already filled out an affidavit stating how many of each we already had installed plus how many, if any, we needed to install to be in full compliance. Our house is small with two bedrooms, one of which does not have a bed in is but is being used for a home office. The Inspector still required a detector in each bedroom. Not a big deal, but we already had two smoke detectors in the hallway, one connected to our alarm system and one free standing that is a combination unit. We also have a combination unit in the garage (think water heater and gas dryer) but he didn't care about that. A quick trip to Costco and 10 minutes of installation time took care of that. So we now have four combination units and one smoke detector in a 1000 square foot house. Anyway, Terrence did not even ask me for payment until after the permit was signed off. He offers a 2% discount which I forgot to subtract from his invoice when i used his Intuit payment method to transfer funds from our credit union to him. I sent him an email informing him of that and he returned the 2% to me via check. The invoiced price was to the penny on his estimate at the beginning of the project. There was a minor amount of dry rot (a couple of boards), which he took care of at no additional cost. He also removed our old aerial antennae and our DirecTV dish (DirecTV didn't want it back; I checked first) and disposed of them for us. The crew worked quickly and efficiently. Everyone was polite and greeted us whenever they saw us. In turn, we put out an ice chest of sparkling water, Gatorade and soda so the crew could stay hydrated. Questions were answered without hesitation. If they didn't know the answer, they referred us to Terrence. We've already had a couple of neighbors come by and ask how we liked their service. I highly encourage everyone who needs a roof to call Terrence and ask for an estimate. He's down to earth and obviously cares about his customers, crew and work. read more

Terrence did a great job repairing the portion of the roof that had tiles shifted out of place because the sideboard the tiles attached to was warped. He delivered the lumber for me to paint a few days before the repair job. He did the work expertly and efficiently. He put in new underlayment and did touch up paint on the lumber. He was also nice enough to paint a short down sprout that had some rust. His quoted price is competitive, and he paid attention to details, and cleaned up after the job was done. We finally had our old, Cal-shake replaced by Moore Residential Roofing. Even after getting two other estimates, I knew I wanted to go with Terrence because he was the only one who agreed to do a small job, over our front porch, four years ago. That spoke volumes to me. Even if another local company was very similar in pricing, I felt confident in choosing Moore. We are also planning to get solar panels installed this summer and our salesman also agreed that having worked with them in the past, he said that Moore Residential Roofing would have a greater chance of showing more attention to detail. Terrence and his crew did not let us down. They did a great job and cleaned everything up. There was an area on our deck that had a little pergola that had those plastic roofing material over it that just layed on our garage roof. Since they had to change that roof, too, they simply propped it up with a length of lumber and it was away from the roof and they worked around it. It was so ingenious. I was also impressed that the vent caps matched the black roofing material, instead of the usual silver. It looks so sleek and modern. Our house is old and small, practically a cottage, really, so the dichotomy of a modern looking roof, matches the design of our "cottage" and it looks fantastic! We have gotten so many compliments from our neighbors. It was also nice to see Terrence on the roof, working. Moore Roofing completed a roof replacement of my asphalt shingled roof. Work included replacing the old leaking gutters and downspouts (that were original to the house) with new galvanized steel gutters/downspouts, installing new metal drip edges, inspecting and reflashing the chimney, replacing and painting all metal flashing and removing the 3 decorative rafter tails that were exposed and prone to dryrot. I also had a new solar attic fan installed since my house gets very warm during the summer months. The estimate was very reasonable and lower than the other 3 bids secured for my house. What helped cement my decision to go with Moore was the outstanding work they did for my neighbor a few years ago. Moore replaced my neighbor's roof, installed new gutters/downspouts and also installed new solar tubes. I found Terrence to be very knowledgeable about roofing products and provided sound advice and recommendations. He answered all of my questions and concerns via email or verbal communication in a timely manner. I had wanted to use a hybrid roofing paper underlayment instead of the new lightweight synthetic felt that roofers use on today's roofing surfaces. Terrence found an appropriate hybrid underlayment to replace the old 30 lb. felt used on my last reroof that is no longer preferred by most roofers. He was also able to secure different colored gutters and downspouts to match the colors of my house. Terrence recommended a best in class solar attic fan that he had installed for other customers and advised that I did not need any additional roof vents on my house. Regarding the fan, I visited the manufacturer's website, read about the fan's premium constructon with lifetime warranty and the FAQs which stated that the motor brushes were the most likely parts that would ever need to be replaced (they were designed to last roughly 7-10 years of service). I contacted the manufacturer and received instructions on how to replace these brushes before the project began so that I would be ready when the brushes do wear out ! The project began promptly after signing the contract. The work took a little over the 2 day allotment period due to an unforseen problem. Upon removing the old roof, Terrence discovered that the previous roofer (a well-known local company and one of the other 3 bidders) had not properly nailed down some of the plywood sheathing and left large gaps between some of the plywood. Terrence said that the roofing surface would not have passed inspection today although I do not know why it passed inspection during the last reroof. Terrence corrected the problem by renailing the existing plywood and using new plywood to fill the gaps all to ensure a sound nailing surface prior to installing the new shingles. This was done at a reasonable additional cost. The tearoff crew and the shingling crew worked diligently and cleaned up after their work. The only negatives to the project was that the tearoff crew did not cover my outdoor AC unit (I covered it with tarp in the middle of the tearoff) and the debris that fell into my garage. This wasn't the crew's fault. I had forgotten that the contract had mentioned that debris may get into the house and that they can cover the inside at an additional cost. Regarding debris, I still find occasional stray nails around my house but I think this is par for the course with any major reroofing project. The roof passed county inspection with no issues. Terrence took ownership of all phases of the project from start to finish and was present at the worksite every day. He also did final touchup to cover screws used to refasten a facade overlooking the garage (had to be removed to install new metal flashing), recaulked all seams and painted it with paint I had on hand. The new roof and gutters look fantastic. My new solar attic fan works well and is hardly noticeable when running. All in all I am extremely happy with the quality of workmanship displayed during my entire roofing project. read more
