Everyone loves an immigrant success story. A man gets on a boat, fleeing persecution in his homeland, arrives in America with three dollars in his pocket, opens a restaurant, and becomes a millionaire because he is simply that talented at his craft. This is not one of those stories. This is the story of MOQA, where somebody apparently came all the way from Kyrgyzstan, discovered American brunch culture, and made the catastrophic decision to imitate it... poorly. The place looks great. Clean, modern, polished. And then there's the P.O.A. Index. Completely f%*%#ing unhinged. Not just the staff. The entire building. Everywhere I looked there was another absurdly attractive woman working, drinking coffee, eating brunch, typing on a laptop, or otherwise innocently going about her morning while pushing the room's average attractiveness into statistically irresponsible territory. It felt less like a café and more like somebody had accidentally scheduled a casting call for Women Who Will Absolutely Ruin Your Life and forgot to tell me. Whatever was happening in Elk Grove Village that morning, MOQA was ground zero. Naturally, this created expectations. Then the food showed up. The breakfast sausage was a hot dog. Not hot-dog-like. Not some adventurous Central Asian interpretation of breakfast sausage. A hot dog sitting next to eggs pretending nobody would notice. I noticed. Then came the waffles. Something had gone terribly wrong. A waffle has three jobs: crispy outside, soft inside, transport syrup into your mouth. Humanity solved this problem centuries ago. MOQA has somehow reopened the investigation. These waffles seemed confused about what they were, why they existed, and whether breakfast was even the correct career path. I ordered a burger... I've had better ones at elementary school cafeterias. Sauced to the hilt with something gross, bland patty that was obviously premade, and even bacon jam couldn't save it. They even f*#%ed up toast. Toast! And that's really the problem with the whole menu. You came from Kyrgyzstan, a place with an actual culinary identity, and somehow wound up making brunch for people who drive white Teslas and say, "Let's circle back after Pilates." Why? That's an insane trade. Give me Kyrgyz breakfast. Give me Central Asian food. Give me bread, eggs, meat, dairy, tea, something with history, character, and enough personality to make me wonder what the hell I just ordered. Give me breakfast with a g**d*** point of view. I don't need Kyrgyz immigrants explaining waffles to me. America already has IHOP. We have committed enough crimes. MOQA already has the beautiful space. It has the atmosphere. It has friendly staff. It has a P.O.A. Index requiring scientific notation. Now it needs to stop pretending Elk Grove Village desperately needs another vaguely upscale American brunch concept. Embrace Kyrgyzstan. But for the love of God: Throw away the hot dogs. Fix the waffles. Cook the food you actually know. read more

We saw Moqa on the way home from a Turkish restaurant nearby. We looked it up and discovered it was a halal restaurant, and not just a coffee shop, so we shortlisted it for another day. It has a pretty mixed menu, from salads to bowls to pizza. They also have a nice menu of coffee drinks and mocktails. They even have all-day breakfast. There is a decent amount of parking. The interior is big enough, but it was packed when we went even though it was 3 PM. The overall design and decor were really nice. I would describe the restaurant as something in between fast casual and nice sit-down. We ordered a Seoul flame bowl w/ chicken, creamy steak bucatini, and iced latte w/ tiramisu, and a small cappuccino. The Seoul flame bowl was excellent. The rice was cooked nicely, there were some veggies, and a lot of egg. It was somewhat sparse on chicken, but there was enough protein thanks to the egg. The menu had a spice symbol, but it wasn't spicy. My wife enjoyed the stead bucatini, but said it could have used more parmesan. The steak was cooked nicely and was tender and tasty. The pesto was a nice touch. She also enjoyed the iced latte and found that it wasn't overly sweet. The cappuccino was great and they did a nice job with the foam and art. Service was decent. Pricing for the food dishes was on the higher side ($19 for the bowl and $33 for the steak), but the coffee was priced reasonably. read more

This was my second time here and I loved it just as much I did the first time. Moqa cafe has become my favorite. Everything that I have tried in the menu so far has been a 10/10. I loved the interiors of this cafe. It's cozy , welcoming and warm. They have a nice drinks menu. Also the regular menu has a nice selection of salads, bowls, pastas, pizzas, etc. I always get their iced caramel mocha. It's my favorite. Also, really like their eggplant salad , beef salad, all their pizzas are all must try. The tom yum soup is also one of my favorites. Definitely try the spot out. My husband and I joined some friends at Moqa Café. I was excited to try the food because I am always looking for places that serve all day breakfast. When we arrived we were shown to our table and then we waited 27 minutes for a sever to take our drink orders. In this amount of time another table was seated, ordered, and received their food. I ordered the rise and since plate which came with scrambled eggs, sausage, salad and pancakes. The eggs and salad were fine but the pancakes were flat, tough, and not fluffy. The sausage was more like a hot dog, not the breakfast sausage you would expect with breakfast. Moqa was not what I was expecting and I cannot recommend it. read more

I really like Moqa Cafe. It's located on the southeast corner of Busse Rd and Greenleaf Avenue. Parking is a breeze. I decided to try something different for breakfast, and this fit the bill. I opted for the Turkish breakfast, and it was delicious, featuring scrambled eggs, salad, Turkish sausage, cheese, olives, and toast with honey butter. Now THAT was definitely a break from my normal diner fare. Although I never make tea at home, I decided to try their Peach tea. Wow! Next time, I'll bring my family to share this tea with. The interior was clean and unique, the service friendly and professional. The menu surprised me. It's very eclectic between their breakfast and lunch offerings. We were seated promptly and the decor is beautiful cozy and comfortable. I was hungry so went for the traditional breakfast. I loved the variety of sausages , farmers cheese , olives , salad , and honey . The mint mango tea was refreshing and loved munching on the oranges and mangoes . They didn't have any pancakes or waffles available for my little guy which was disappointing. I ordered the chocolate croissant for him but it came very late and very well done . We had our first visit to MOQA in Elk Grove Village and were so impressed! The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and beautifully decorated. It feels like you're dining in someone's stylish home. A friendly local restaurant serving Central Asian-style cuisine. When I asked the waitress about the restaurant, she mentioned that the vibe is similar to restaurants back home, which really added to the authenticity. Every dish I've tried here has been delicious and full of flavor. I especially love their pizza--the dough has just the right amount of chewiness. I've had the Mediterranean burrata, Moqa special bucatini, white and green pesto pizza, and the mushroom forest pizza--all delicious! If you have the opportunity, you should definitely try their fruit teas. They're made in-house and are unlike typical fruit teas. Almost like a dessert. I've tried both the berry and peach teas, and the peach tea is my personal favorite. The restaurant itself is cozy and inviting. I've seen families enjoying meals together while other tables had people working on their laptops. It attracts a diverse crowd for many different reasons, which adds to its charm. The waitress was extremely friendly and polite. She answered all of our questions and shared background information about how the restaurant was created.
