Fun fact: We just checked our bank accounts and over the last three years we have literally spent $20,000 at VIP. For real. You can read my previous review to see everything I like about VIP: Their parts and labor guarantee, their knowledgable mechanics, how their people worked late to get our car out of the shop in time for the weekend. When I came out as trans, they handled it completely differently than I might have expected at pretty much any other garage in Maine. Thanks, Katelyn! I'm knocking off a star because, while all the staff here are really great, there's not enough of them. It's taking them far longer than they used to to get jobs done because no matter how talented they are, there's not enough people on board. They lost a few people about three months back and they still haven't been able to replace them, and the parking lot is literally full of cars that they haven't been able to get to yet. I feel for them because I know that can't be easy. VIP (central) needs to either be more realistic about what they need to do to attract good technicians (I'm guessing pay and benefits), or be more realistic about the services they can offer with a skeleton crew, which may just mean becoming VIP Tires. read more

I have always had a great experience with the crew at VIO Odlin Road Bangor. Bruce and Bob are great to work with, schedule you as soon as possible and hardly a wait to get in at the scheduled time. If you need auto repair or tires, this is the place to go for sure. No need to shop around if you need tires as well. read more

I spent $4500 to put tires and rims on 2 vehicles and that was fine. But, when it came time for them to rotate the tires that I bought there, they were too busy to rotate them. I made 2 appointments in one week and they could not get it done either time. They were too busy with paying customers that were buying tires. (Rotation is free if you purchase your tires there). I told them I was not happy and would never do business with them again. Their response was "sorry you feel that way". read more

Went here today to get my snow tires switched out for summer tires. I had my own tires with me. My appointment was scheduled for 9:00am and so I arrived at 8:50. Around 10:00 I noticed my car still had not been moved so I waited patiently. Another 20 minutes and my car finally went into a bay. Around 11:00 the car was finished and I was good to leave. I understand changing snow tires is free and so there might not have been a rush to get me in before other paying customers but to spend 2 hours waiting seemed a bit much, especially on my day off. I still gave three stars because they did good work and I understand places get busy. Just seemed a little worthless to schedule an appointment only to spend 2 hours waiting. read more

I take my 2016 Toyota Rav4 for Warranty Maintenance service after the free 20,000 mile dealer service was completed. Why pay the high cost of dealership service when I get the same quality service from the Bangor Odlin Road VIP? The service personnel are ALWAYS courteous and on schedule. Work is completed quickly but with a focus on quality servie. You should be bringing your vehicle here. read more

I've been going to this Odlin Road, Bangor VIP location since 2020 and have been more than satisfied with their work and prices every time. And twice now they have checked out problems with my car and did not charge me either time for their diagnostic work! (Try that at most any other area garage or repair shop, where they charge at least $50/hour for 'diagnostics'.) I also like that they will take you out into the shop to visually explain needed or recommended repairs to you and discuss which, if any, you want done. I've gone to a number of service and repair shops in central Maine over many years (I also grew up working in one with my father), and this is the only one I can say that I am 100% satisfied with - every time. read more

I had one repair done on my vehicle here in February, and several related repairs done just last week. I dropped my car off on Saturday morning and did not receive ANY communication until I called them just before the closed on Sunday evening. Throughout the week they were difficult to communicate with and only communicated if I called them - they did not call me to give updates or let me know when something changed. I was told that the repair should be done by Thursday but if not then definitely mid day Friday. I called them at 1pm on Friday and was told it probably wouldn't be finished until closing time that day. Several hours later, I received a phone call from the assistant manager, who told me it wouldn't be done until the next day and took off a significant chunk of money due to how long it was taking. I didn't even bring up to them the fact that when I did finally get my car back, there were several small cosmetic damages inside my car. I considered the reduced bill a fair compensation, until last night. Just five days after getting my car back from them, my car refused to start. I called them to voice this concern and spoke to someone by the name of Bruce. Instead of offering a solution or understanding my frustration, he completely dismissed everything I was saying and claimed there was no way it could be related. I attempted to explain myself to him for 12 minutes and all I got were defensive remarks or radio silence on the other end. I will not be returning to VIP again. Upon getting my car back from them the second time, after they did a cooling service and replaced a hose among several other things, it seemed to run great. Sounded normal, smelled normal, felt normal. About three days later, it started to overheat again and smelled of coolant yet again. I brought it to a different, trusted and licensed mechanic, and they told me that when VIP replaced my radiator in February, they installed it incorrectly, which will obviously cause the car to not cool properly but can also cause a multitude of other issues. I had to pay to have the radiator replaced yet again, after spending $800 at VIP for the same issue. Now my car is having recurring issues due to the damage to the engine from am INCORRECTLY INSTALLED radiator. Between this, the fact that the lock cover was missing from my door handle, and the other several damages inside the body of the vehicle, I expect that someone from VIP will respond to my email and work out a reimbursement for the service which was improperly completed. read more

Around 2 pm on Friday, May 22, 2020, after calling first, I dropped of a riding mower wheel and new tire to be mounted. I was told they wouldn't be able to get to it right away, which was understandable. I was told it would be done by the end of day and I said that was fine I would pick it up the next morning. The next morning I went online and did a chat to check on the status. I was told the tire was on the rim but not yet inflated. I was told someone would call me. At 12:30 I called to check again. I was put on hold so that he could check. After waiting a while a different person picked up to find out what I was waiting for. I explained again while the second person went to check. Finally I was told that the tire would be ready by 6 pm. This was just not acceptable so I said I'd come in and pick it up. The response was "OK, that sounds good." When I arrived at the store the tire (just hanging limply on the rim) was propped against the outside wall for me (or anyone else I guess) to pick up. I went inside to speak to someone and nobody was to be seen. I waited a while at the desk and nobody showed up, so finally I left. This was a small job, but if a business cannot honestly and reliably perform a small service for a customer, do you think I want them EVER to perform a larger service on my car? I will never ever give business to a VIP service center again. read more

SCAM ARTISTS! I took my van, which I had just purchased less than a year before from a dealership, in to get the inspection done as the sticker was due to run out in a month or two. Well I watched them pull it into the bay and look under the hood. They put it up on a lift. Walked around under it a few times. Then disappeared for a few minutes and came out to get me for a "walkthrough" of my van. They brought me to the back wheels and said "You need new back breaks but everything else looks fine." I asked, "how did you check my brakes without even taking the tires off?" He said, "we have a tool to measure through the back of the tire, if the tool doesn't fit in then the brakes need to be replaced. We couldn't fit the tool in." So they told me I could have the two back brakes done for $337 and then they would put the sticker on, OR have someone else do it and come back in 30 days and they would put it on. This van is less than a year old! How does it need back brakes already?!?! So I took it to another shop that specializes in brakes and had them inspect it...passed! I asked about the brakes in the back and the guy said, "I don't know who told you that but all of your brakes are good." DO NOT GO TO ANY VIP LOCATION! I should have known better because my ex husband worked there for 16 years. He would come home and tell me about how they were told to do this kind of thing to people AND VIP treated him like crap for the whole 16 years he was an employee. read more

Just a notice for those using tirerack, this store will not install a pair of tires bc they did not match the rear size, I originally had 225 width tires all the way around and need to replaced 2 of the tires up front , bc I was low on cash I order 215 for the front tires which is still OE spec, but bc the rear are 225 this shop would not install per store policy. I have a Chevy Spark EV as well and it's a front wheel drive car with staggered set up 175 in front and 185 in the rear and there is no issue with such a small difference. In the end they would not install the tire per store policy which is BS , even tirerack said this is the first time they have come across this issue but understands why they would do it, end of the day i saved $20 taking my tires to Walmart to install for $34 out the door with disposal new valve stem and computer mount and balance. So save your time if and money and go to Walmart for install or one of the other tire shops locally. read more

My inspection was done quickly when I arrived, with friendly service and assistance from all the employees.

I've come to this particular VIP because 1. It's close to my house (my main mechanic is an hour away) and 2. The guys I deal with (Kenny and Bruce) are helpful, have a nice demeanor/way about them that is easy to converse with, and 3. On the occasion I've had to have more done than an oil change, they're very knowledgeable and .... honest. I always check with my trusted guy up north...and VIP comes very close in diagnosing the issue and is reasonable in price. I don't feel like I'm being taken advantage of...which is often the case when you're a woman walking into a traditionally men's arena. read more
