I went to More than Java in Laurel for breakfast. I loved the comfy feel of the place when I walked in and it was suggested by a friend. At first I was going with the a breakfast sandwich but saw they had jerk chicken and waffles. Got the food to go. I was ready to get home to try this interesting take on chicken and waffles. I was not expecting chicken legs with a very vinegar based jerk based chicken. It was very spicy and vinegary but lacked the real Caribbean seasoning. It seemed like the chicken was boiled instead of grill, baked or sauteed. The waffle was very dry and dense. Tried to eat the chicken and waffle together, it just didn't know match. I really wanted to gave this dish a chance but I could not eat but a few forks full. I think I would go back for a breakfast sandwich and stay away from the jerk chicken and waffles. read more

I type this as my nose prepares to drip; I had been wanting to stop past this spot for quite some time. They are always hosting interesting events but the food is what I was truly looking forward to. Food/Ambiance: On this visit I ordered the Jerk Chicken and waffles (they are known for these as it states on the window). They looked beautiful, they added a layer of jerk sauce between the chicken and waffle. I'm not a spicy food fan so I should have asked about the level of spice because this spice will set you free from any nose congestion and empty out your tear ducts. It was pretty good but due to the spice I only ate a wing and half the waffle. If you are okay with spice I would recommend this spot. Customer Service: We did not stay to eat however there were a couple of people just sitting enjoying a cup of coffee. Sausage, egg and cheese on Cocoa Bread which was pretty good. I would get this again but with bacon instead of sausage. We got a delicious breakfast here at a great value, considering the portions! I got an Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwich with vegan sausage! Very tasty, very filling, and I'm very happy they have vegan options! They have more vegan breakfast options as well such as a vegan breakfast bowl (vegan sausage, potatoes, and veggies) or a vegan waffle. It's awesome to have so many choices! 1/24/20 Stopped coming here after too many disappointments. I had given them several passes because you know--locally owned ethnic mom and pop eatery but but but...dis tew much! The shop is a gem and portions ample. However, service is sloooooooow even though they have the fewest customers of any coffee shop I've ever patronized. The last time, in addition to the slow service, they charged me for an item I'd ordered but they failed to include. I was exhausted because I'd already had to remind them after waiting so long in an almost empty shop for another item. The really young bespectacled girl who served me was articulate but lacked service orientation. The other young ladies don't seem happy to be working there. Mom and Grandma were amazing however their best efforts didn't neutralize the incompetence of the rest. I would keep Mom and Grandma and hire a more vivacious customer-oriented (perhaps non-family members) service team. Best of luck! I won't be coming back.. First time visiting this little gem of a coffee shop. It reminds me of awesome coffee discoveries I've found during my travels Upstate New York and Minnesota, where you can see that someone inspired decided to use their passion to deliver a gift to the community. Their old hours of operation were: Sun 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Mon - Fri 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Sat 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM A full 75 hours a week. Now they have reduced their hours so they are only open 27 hours a week. I've seen this happen to coffee shops before. First they severely cut back on their hours and then they go out of business. read more

I de ided to order a seafood salad wrap which was fabulous. Just be warned it definitely has a kick to if, so be careful if you are not a fan of spicy or hot foods. We never would have found this place without actively searching for a good breakfast/sandwich cafe but man are they freaking incredible. So far we have tried the chicken curry and the jerk chicken sandwiches, which are amazing. My husband loves their coffee and I love their homemade lavender mint tea. I love to see and support Black owned. The man who answered the phone and served me was super friendly. They only offer take-out right now (understandably) and have a nice system where you call in your order and you get a text when it's ready. Super cold day today. I ordered the Island Smoothly without agave and carried it back to where I was waiting for my car. I took a sip and knew immediately that agave was added--so I couldn't drink it. I called and they apologized and offered a replacement. I couldn't return there immediately because I had a work call. A few minutes later I heard my name being called and was a little confused. There was a friendly person with a replacement drink and straw in hand. They hand-delivered a new drink to me and even upgraded the size!!! So thoughtful. This is how customer appreciation works! Love this place! A local favorite. It's family owned and operated and a great place to get breakfast to-go. I always order the vegan sausage, egg, and cheese and the other items I've tried have been good as well such as grits, cold-pressed juices, and vegan seafood mac and cheese (which i'm not sure they have anymore). Make sure to follow them on IG to make sure they're open, however. They close for family events, outside catering, etc, so sometimes I have to curb my cravings. They have salads, smoothies, pies, muffins/pastries, sandwiches/wraps, waffles, etc. I had an iced coffee, jerk chicken wings (opted against the Belgian waffle), and a side kale salad. The jerk chicken wings were quite tasty and the meat nearly fell off the bone but dayummm was the jerk seasoning hot. I tried this little cafe on Main Street in Laurel, Maryland. The cafe gives off a healthier living kind of vibe with a cool urban twist. It is a very small cafe, so there were no places to dine inside the restaurant. However, there were a few little wooden tables and chairs outside to sit and eat in the open air. The cafe seems to sell its own homemade drinks, coffees, and bagged teas. The employee at the counter was very pleasant and accommodating. We ordered two toasted lox and bagel sandwiches. Unfortunately the cafe was extremely busy, but the employee was very upfront about our order possibly taking thirty minutes to finish. In the meantime, we strolled along Main Street to kill some time. Ten minutes later we received a text message from the cafe informing us that our food was ready, which was a pleasant surprise. The sandwiches were fantastic. The bagels were nice and chewy, there was plenty of smoked salmon as well (which some restaurants skimp on), and the vegetables were very fresh also. Family owned and family run! The proprietor Nana is the sweetest you'll ever meet and she doesn't skimp on fresh ingredients! She crafts all natural and organic teas and recently added an unsweetened line! I work at the Mill myself and I love all of the food spots. More Than Java is my go to when I want to order a weekend breakfast. Absolutely love the Jerk Chicken and Waffles. The Chicken is spicy, just like it should be, and the waffle is absolutely delicious. I can't stay away from ordering it! They also have some good coffee, both drip/iced and espresso. I'm always happy to buy my latte here over a starbucks/dunkin, and you can support a Black-owned small business in the process! Other good items are their steak, egg, and cheese on coco bread (yes, you can get your sandwich on coco bread). Also take a chance and try one of their homemade desserts. The Nana's peach cobbler had me in heaven! They're doing well with COVID protocols, masks are on properly, plexiglass barrier with the cashier, and a big bottle of hand sanitizer by the door. There isn't a ton of room inside, so I recommend either calling your order in ahead of time or waiting in your car after ordering. Also have to mention, the owners are great people! This is such a cute place! Plenty of street parking in Laurel and worth the travel. Community hang out for sure. The staff knows the patrons by name. People walk over and introduce themselves and ask where your from !! Nowadays who does this ?? I would say they have seating for around roughly 20 people or so, but don't let that stop you! We came on a Saturday and I am pretty sure 2pm was peak time and many were clearing out from a book signing that was hosted there and just wrapping up. This cafe has so much to offer like homemade gumbo, jerk wings, and sandwiches. You can choose from smoothies, teas, coffees, and lattes as well. Sweet tooth, a variety of homemade pound cakes, cup cakes, and old school grandma style bunt cakes. Then I look to my left and I see the coveted wine infused ice cream that I have been looking to stumble upon for quite some time now. I had to brace myself, because I knew I would be back shortly and I did not want to take all the fun out of my visit by ordering everything in one sitting. It was a cold day so I got the warm chamomile tea, high quality loose leaf with lots of flavor. The jerk wings were pretty good, slightly dried out from being over cooked. Next time I'm in, I will politely say something as the server did ask me how everything was. Everyone was so friendly. Me and my home girl stretched out on that couch, laughed, kee-keed and nibbled until staff turned the OPEN sign off around 7pm. Now my friend is The Queen of Picky and she had not one complaint, she mentioned the slice of strawberry shortcake she had was DIVINE and complimented the staff. The menu is great, the customer service is awesome and welcoming (always feel myself wanting to ask 'are we related or do i know you from somewhere?' - that's how homey and warm the staff are!). A couple of weeks ago, there was a lemonade and cupcake stand hosted by young entrepreneurs and I loved that! They were really patient with us because we had a large order and they were quick to have it ready. Let me tell you, I'm so happy we found this spot. I had the jerk chicken salad on a croissant. I was in the area with my sister and we wanted to go to a Black owned coffee shop and came across this cafe. We order two iced lattes, a bagel and muffin. They messed up our order by giving us hot coffee instead of iced, but they were so quick to fix our order. The food was amazing! I loved how the iced coffee had frozen coffee ice cubes, it prevented the drink from having a watery taste. The chocolate muffin was moist with the perfect amount of sweetness.
