I am enjoying a delicious green smoothie right now. It has a hint of ginger, which I love. This place is more relaxing than Panera. I'm charging my phone #again. I'm watching Bobby Flay on the big screen. I'm listening to some smooth jazz. It's 5:30PM and the cares of the day are melting away. We settled on a ham and cheese panini, jerk chicken sandwich on sourdough and the curried chicken salad on the "coco" bread. All was DELICIOUS! The jerk chicken had terrific flavor but be forewarned.....it is spicy hot! The staff (owner?) was helpful and friendly. My only criticism would be that the "coco" bread was a bit dry and might have been day old, but was still tasty with the curried chicken salad. Ok so I saw this spot on ABC7 as they highlight local businesses. I grabbed the family and we headed to Main Street Laurel to check it out. The owner took care of us at the front counter. He was a super nice guy! I got the vegan eggs (I'm assuming they use Just Egg which is amazing!), vegan sausage and potatoes. The sausage was very good too! It was spicy which was nice! It wasn't just a dry hunk of soy from Morning Star Farms although the muffin was too dry, but our dog still loved it. Everything they served had flavor/spice. Nothing blah or bland which was refreshing, especially for their vegan choices! Even the potatoes had a good spice on them. To drink I had their homemade Mango Lemonade which was great, not too acidic. Then I ordered their coffee which was also good and I liked they had stevia packets for sweeteners too! My wife had a vegan wrap and daughter had the vegan waffle. They both loved them as well. My wife also bought some shea butter they sell there to use in her handmade deodorant. I tried this little cafe on Main Street in Laurel, Maryland. The cafe gives off a healthier living kind of vibe with a cool urban twist. It is a very small cafe, so there were no places to dine inside the restaurant. However, there were a few little wooden tables and chairs outside to sit and eat in the open air. The cafe seems to sell its own homemade drinks, coffees, and bagged teas. The employee at the counter was very pleasant and accommodating. We ordered two toasted lox and bagel sandwiches. Unfortunately the cafe was extremely busy, but the employee was very upfront about our order possibly taking thirty minutes to finish. In the meantime, we strolled along Main Street to kill some time. Ten minutes later we received a text message from the cafe informing us that our food was ready, which was a pleasant surprise. The sandwiches were fantastic. The bagels were nice and chewy, there was plenty of smoked salmon as well (which some restaurants skimp on), and the vegetables were very fresh also. Very cool coffee shop in Laurel! I was here working for a few hours since they offer free wifi and a cozy environment to work from. In the morning I ordered a latte that was good (nothing out of the ordinary but good) and the bagel with egg, bacon, and cheese. The sandwich was made fresh and was good. Then in the afternoon I got a ham & cheese sandwich which comes with chips and an iced coffee. A nice little touch I noticed there is that for iced drinks they also add "coffee flavored" ice cubes so it does not dilute the flavor. They had good chill music playing in the background which was cool to distract you for a minute. The staff asked a few times if I needed anything else and they just seemed as cool people who know everyone from the area. When I am back in Laurel I would recommend this place for some coffee or to work from here for us telecommuters! read more

Wow what can I say this place is the bomb!! We tried the island surprise smoothie, iced coffee, sausage egg and cheese on coco bread and a bacon egg cheese croissant. Everything tasted great! My mom had her smoothie and found a piece of mango in the bottom which she said was a delightful find LOL!! The best thing to me was the iced coffee they use coffee ice cubes to keep the flavor of the coffee which is a genius idea. The coffee tasted great. Unmemorable but inventive. I'm nearly sure my review will make this crew wonder some, as I contemplate how to write it. It's interesting to see how small businesses are surviving during the midst of COVID. This place has utilized their time with marketing a new slew of products, to include beverages, teas and spices. I have not tried any, but was intrigued that they had gone this route and applauded their effort. I truly hope this business is here to stay; they seem to care and have always provided excellent customer service. Laurel has no bakery and definitely not one with soul, but Java is a bakery with a lotta soul - which my family and I love; that's why we keep coming back. What gives with the three stars, vice five? On this particular visit, I was disappointed with the desserts: a peach cobbler, banana pudding and a red velvet cheesecake - all sounding quite decadent and delicious, most ended up in the bin. Sorry Java. The cobbler was overly cloyingly sweet, the banana pudding had no cookie or banana, but was merely a whip lacking banana, comprised solely of topping and pudding and the red velvet cheese cake was dry, the filling lacked the anticipated cheese cake consistency and flavor. We'll be back, because it's not always like this - but remember Java, sometimes having the standards is just as delicious and even more so, as a new concoctions. read more

They don't list prices on the menu, which I find insidious and they charge a la carte for many things that other coffee shops would include in the order. Finally, I do believe that the recent increase in social media mentions has engendered their sudden price increases (they've gotten a little pompous with the surprise you at the register price increases). I enjoyed them more when they were more humble (with prices and when they had tables for you to sit and converse at). This is my second visit to More Than Java Cafe. Each time the service has been impeccable. The food is made fresh. The first time I ordered the homemade seafood salad and delicious gluten free chocolate cake with hand pressed juice. Today o ordered the jerk chicken and waffles. Definitely a nice kick to the jerk chicken. It was a good combo. I also had the cappuccino which is made fresh. The restaurant has a very comfortable family vibe. Lots of outlets to plug in electronics similar to other local coffee shops. The seating is quaint and allows for personable conversations. I stopped in for a snack before a meeting a bit further up Main Street based on the reviews. I ordered a BLT, just because I hadn't had one in a while. Good artisanal bread, pretty minimal amount of filling. Solid iced latte, and when I got to the bottom I noticed the ice was dark. Sure enough, they make the cubes out of coffee so you don't get dilution. The chicken gumbo was the star, so thick the spoon would stand up in it, lots of okra, and just enough heat. The mix and match furniture makes it feel homey, the WiFi is password protected and fast, and the proprietors clearly care about quality and atmosphere. A definite place to stop when I'm in the area. More Than Java Café has a COMPLETE list of Wine Ice Cream to purchase and that is so incredibly AWESOME. The flavors currently available are the following: Peach White Zinfandel, Cherry Merlot, Strawberry Sparkling, Chocolate Cabernet, Port, Red Raspberry Chardonnay, Riesling, and Spiced Mulled Wine. However, I ordered a $11 Omelette combo, and was very disappointed in portions to start... but more so because the tiny portion of Potatoes had a pound of salt (easy mistake)... Problem... I inform young lady I didn't get toast and Potatoes were salty....she said okay. I sat down for about 10 min waiting.... finally I ask what happened, she says "She (meaning lady in kitchen), said when she is finished with all her orders, she will get to you". My faces just dropped. My normal reply was held back, and I said Thank You and left. Came here after a long day of moving and boy did these smoothies hit the spot! I got the green machine and it was delicious! I read that someone mentioned that they use organic ingredients. They did not advertise this so I asked the girl and she said "mostly." I asked if it was in the smoothies and she said "yes" but didn't seem tooo confident. So, I'm not too sure but I like the idea that it was all organic. They use agave for the sweetener and it was just the right amount. Fiancé got the strawberry banana and it was also very delish! Hidden gem. Definitely Laurel's hidden gem. First, the staff is super nice. Very pleasant, patient and really understands customer service. If only every restaurant can replicate the service! When you order sausage, egg and cheese on a croissant, you expect exactly what you order. Well, you get that, but somehow they magically make it yummier than you think! I don't know how or what they do, but it's delish! The waffles are also so so so yummy! What's also great are the flavored coffee and specialty beverages they offer. Hello, yelp readers today has been another insatiable day. I've eaten at two places and this will be my third. And I couldn't possibly ask for a better resting place for my apetite. More than java is slightly tucked in, meaning nothing to obvious stands out to me to identify the place, I actually walked passed it. (Smiling) I walked in and just took a second to look get the vibe, it feels very calming. I was greeted and when I asked about their items the women were more than great to help me. There case is fully of good cake slices and there menu has an array of eats if your looking to fuel your tummy. As I just ate at two places less than a hour ago I was looking for sweet treats and some tea. I was drawn to the teas. I asked about their sweet white chai (I love chai) She really didn't know but she upfront about not being a tea drinker and asked the owner for me. I asked about various tea like a tumeric and ginger, island mango, cucumber melon, and the sweet white chai(SWC). I went with SWC, she described it as mellow and it is chai has a spice and warmth. This tea is good but if your an avid chai lover SWC may not be the go at that moment, depends on your mood taste. They have vegan options which is always a plus. Not just for those vegan but those non-vegan who want to be a bit healthy. I ordered the apple crumb cake, SWC, and later on I saw they had WINE ICECREAM (who has that) I went for the reisling but they were sold out (sad face) so the owner who was very friendly helped me as we talked about our wine taste and suggested the cherry Merlot. It is quite tastey not too sweet and a wine taste which if you like wine, will appreciate. My total came to less than 8 bucks. They have handmade jewelry for sale they grind and bag their own coffee and their tea as well which I find an added point for this place. Overall vibe on this Friday afternoon is mellow with the crowd being people in older age. I don't mind, I think it will the success. I will be back for the wine and to try their food. -I would like to add if the owners see this, a suggestion. The overall appeal and vibe is it's unique and authentic vibe. I would suggest having healthier chips selection like Apple chips or vegan snacks. Drinks as well maybe an blueberry apply juice instead of v8 splash. Nothing wrong with it, but I would have loved a more selection with juices and more organic or healthier options. And seeing sprites and utz salt and vinegar (which I love) killed me. My wife and I made a commitment to support minority owned businesses in our community and found this gem. The customer service was exceptional. There was a miscommunication with our order we didn't get one of our dishes. When I informed them, they promptly made it and offered to give it to us for free (which I refused). It was generous and unnecessary since it wasn't anyone's fault but the gesture was greatly appreciated. The breakfast sandwiches were excellent and the waffle had a dense, cake-like texture which was awesome. The kids loved their smoothies and my wife and I can honestly say that our latte was on of the best we've had. A great balance of flavors and not too sweet. They have so many items on the menu that we will be making many more trips back to try them out. So glad we found this locally owned place to get some amazing coffee! read more
