This is the second time I ordered from Shero Cakes after an incredible first experience and I was extremely disappointed and upset. I asked for a simple black chocolate cake with white cursive letters and the white letters were disconnected and unclean. There were also white smears across the black of the cake which tells me they completely rushed the job and didn't take their time with it after I payed a good amount for it. It was so bad that when I opened it up in front of my friends for my birthday the room literally fell silent... I was so heartbroken. I wish I could say the taste salvaged the cake but I was disappointed in it as well. Unlike last time, the cake itself was dry, flaky, and lacking flavor. Came here for a quick lunch with my friends on a Sunday afternoon. This place only had a few seats by the window and people usually grabbed their food/drink to go. I got their house special banh mi and it was really good! I normally am not a big fan of banh mi because I'm worried that the bread will be very hard and chewy but this was not the case at all! The bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and it was filled with toppings. I also tried my friend's grilled pork banh mi and it was equally good! I was pretty full after eating half of it so if you have a small appetite, it can probably be shared between two people. I stumbled upon this place by accident while driving. I knew i had to come in and try them out. I did and it was worth it. I am a pastry fanatic after all. They just opened at the end of April to early May 2022. From the name of this shop, i naturally assumed they only sold pastries. Aside from pastries, and to my surprise, they also sell diner fast food (i.e., burgers, chicken sandwiches, french fries, etc.). I had no idea. The name can throw one off. People would naturally think it's a pastry shop. It's an interesting mix of fast food and pastries. They have a decent selection of sliced cakes/pastries, which include red velvet, creme brulee, strawberry shortcake, and tiramisu. I believe they also prepare large cakes for special occasions like birthdays and weddings. I was really happy with my purchase and would totally return. The place is clean, has seating, and the cashier was really nice. It's also just nice to see more variety of stores opening in this area. The north side of Queens Blvd in LIC is seriously lacking in options. The flavor to the pastries were lite, which i enjoyed because sometimes you just don't want pastries drenched in sugar where it's enough to kill a charging elephant in Africa. It all tasted great and the cream puff with the vanilla filling was to die for! The hot food was really good also. It felt refreshing and not oily at all. Concept is a bit unusual because their menu has a range of desserts and savory/fried food items but Ai walk by here a lot and is a reliable spot for quick eats. I've gotten for their Vietnamese noodle salad with marinated pork-- total after tax was $10.83 (price as of Feb 2023). Great deal for a meal that includes a protein. The food is good for what it is but keep in mind this place does not serve authentic Vietnamese...! I also tried a slice of their strawberry shortcake. The cake was soft, fluffy and moist-- and the whipped cream frosting is not too sweet which is typical of Asian cakes. Tasty, but the total after tax was $7.08 for a single slice and since the slices are tiny I didn't think it was worth. Once I saw this bakery had opened up a block away from me I knew I had to try it. I was pleased to find out they had quite a few vegetarian options for their sandwiches. I got the vegetarian crispy chicken sandwich and I loved that they used imitation meat instead of mushroom or tofu. The boba is so soft and the perfect amount of chewiness. The vanilla cream puff is to die for and they put so much filling in there, but it isn't too sweet, so I loved it. My boyfriend had the crispy flounder burger and it was pretty small, but my boyfriend said it tasted good, like a Mcdonalds fish filet sandwich.
