Such a pleasant atmosphere from a roadside cafe that could easily be missed in little town of Morongo Valley. Following an early morning hike at Morongo Preserve wife and I needed some nourishment. The Morongo Valley Cafe turned into a very pleasant choice. We were greeted by Estella who along with Ricky, were the owners of MVC. Place was clean and almost full with what appeared to be local patrons. Extensive breakfast and luncheon selections were presented in an enjoyable menu which included historical facts and fictional information of the area. Wife choose the Greek omelette which was good but she felt should have included meat. I choose the Banana crunch French toast. The bread had a crunchy batter coating which was enjoyable. The four slices of toast were topped with sliced bananas and whipped cream. What a treat. I know people are driving 60mph going to or from Palm Springs on the highway. But if you're hungry, it's not a bad idea to stop at the Morongo Valley café for breakfast or lunch. We stayed in the area at an AirBnB. We were disappointed we couldn't get food delivery to the house as it was pretty secluded. As I searched for places for the next morning, I found this cafe. Wow!! Everything was delicious!!! We got the banana crunch French toast, one egg breakfast, breakfast burrito and the chicken fried steak. My whole family enjoyed the breakfast. The prices were great and in the middle of no where, it was about a 5 min drive. Highly recommend. read more

Never had french toast like this anywhere before traveling all over the country. Great fresh food, the fresh banana & light whip cream keeps the french toast lightened up & great tasting, bacon/eggs nothing special just good tasting food. Waitress was not too attentive even tho 2 of them had time to stand & talk & look around I still had to wave them down for coffee which is one of my BIG pet peeves for going out to breakfast, so they lost a star for that & I should ding them 2 stars in all reality since the place is so small, no reason to stand & chit chat & not check on the people you're waiting on & expecting a tip from! Honestly they would have gotten a higher rating from me if they had been honest. But sadly they failed on that front so I had to take off a star. This location has always had its ups and downs. I'm glad it's got new owners so I stopped in while I was in town. The food over all was of good quality. The server was nice. The restaurant was clean and tidy upon first glance. Price was average and comparable to other diner style restaurants. So here's the reason for that lost star. When I order my breakfast, I specifically asked if they make their bacon fresh. She said yes. I then specifically asked that I don't want those extra crispy bacon. I like my bacon just cooked, not very crispy. She said she understood. I see her at the window talking to the cook. Looks like there's good communication so far. Here's the actual result. My food arrives in only 5 mins. Curious!? The pancakes are hot. The eggs are perfect. The bacon are extra crispy! They were not freshly made! They were made earlier in the day and barely warm. There's nothing worst in my book than being lied to in a restaurant. If I specified a part of my order and you are not going to do so, you should come and tell me. Maybe I won't mind or I might change to something else. At least give me the option to choose. Don't try and pass sub-par product to your customers. Now they probably thought they got away with it since I didn't complain and just ate my breakfast like everyone else does. Here's the thing, never complain while you're there, because you never know what you'll get back on your plate when you do. As for Morogo Cafe, the ups and downs shall continue as it seems. read more

What a great throwback. Good food in a clean if dated setting. The chili was the right spice level, the side of fruit fresh and substantial , the slaw nice and creamy, and the omelet fluffy and well filled. This was a cute little breakfast spot on our way out of Joshua Tree. Good food and quick service - we were in and out within 30 minutes. I ordered a simple egg sandwich, which weirdly came stuffed with iceberg lettuce, but was pretty good and filling along with the hash browns on the side. Our waitress was very nice and, though they didn't have iced coffee on the menu, she was able to bring us something close enough. The place has a nice atmosphere with cute wall decorations and photos, and is a great reasonably priced stop for a meal in the area. read more

I've lived in morongo for over 25 years loved the cafe but the new owners r running it into the ground their customer service is horrible the only thing that's still good there is Willie's biscuits and gravy. I ordered a ham and cheddar omelette to go. got home the omelette had just some weird pre shredded combo cheese and no meat. I called back told the lady. her only response was that she only charged me for a cheese omelet. so I told her so u messed it up then she just hung up on me instead of offering me a new one or my money. they are definitely running off all the locals. read more

My family bought a home in Desert Hot Springs a few months ago. We've been looking for a great place to have breakfast and lunch. We met Enrique in DHS and he invited us to his restaurant, Morongo Valley Cafe. There are several options closer to our home, but Enrique's friendly smile and apparent inclination for hospitality beckoned us to drive a little further to pay him a visit. Upon entering, he introduced us to his brother and daughter who also work at the restaurant. We immediately felt welcomed and at home. Our server, Diane, recommended the Ultimate Sandwich. It was fantastic! The Banana Crunch French Toast was out of this world. This place is highly recommended. We will be back often. read more

Stopped by again for breakfast on Saturday. The staff was friendly as always and the food tasted good albeit with smaller portions. I had the bacon and eggs and the bacon has changed to the thin, inexpensive brand and the eggs were on the small size. The miss's had the chicken fried steak and eggs and that was delicious as always along with a side order of pancakes. The hash browns had the texture and consistency of having sat on the grill for too long, most likely because the restaurant wasn't busy. I'm on the fence about this place. Usually for a Saturday morning the restaurant is very busy but it was quite with a large portion of the seating available for patrons to occupy. I'll try it one more time just to be sure they weren't having an off day. read more

Serendipity in the high desert! Just had a late breakfast yesterday with my two teen sons, coming back from camping at Joshua Tree. We had already passed Denny's and fast-food places (nah...) the Jelly Donut (too early for a fritter, fellas), Applebees (closed till lunch), and finally I said "Okay, the next odd little local place we see, that serves breakfast, we're stopping." Boy are we glad we did. This little place with a big name (actually it's "The Morongo Valley Cafe And Museum") is tidy, cozy, friendly, all-around a happy place. The "museum" refers to the framed photos and old news clippings on the walls, which if you take the time to look at them are actually interesting. And connected to today: as we were sitting down, a former Morongo Valley beauty queen ("Miss Indian Princess 196_"?) and her party were just leaving. Her photo from when she won the contest is up on the wall, now "historical", and one of the waitresses was teasing her about it (old town=old jokes I guess). The best part of the "museum" motif is the hilarious history of Morongo Valley printed on the back of the menu. The whole menu kept us chuckling all through breakfast. Which didn't take long. The food arrived before we were even halfway through the menu's history, the waitress was the perfect balance of friendly and funny and unobtrusive. She kept our glasses full, anticipated everything we might ask to go with our food, and served all her other customers with the same swift attention to detail & happy banter. But it isn't the historical angle that draws you here, or the fast friendly service. It is the food. Yum. The three of us had a big Denver omelette with 2 big fluffy pancakes on the side, plus sausages, a platter of eggs & sausage, three bottomless drinks (no exaggeration, we drank the equivalent of 10 glasses and only paid for 3-- we ran out of water the night before & were thirsty this morning!), all for $21.14. What?! I thought the waitress had forgotten to charge us for something. Final observations: spacious, clean private bathrooms. Air conditioning. Comfy seating everywhere: I loved the physical layout of the place. It is small in a cozy way, with a tasteful shady outdoor patio out front and a big gravel parking lot that won't give RVs or tractor-trailer rigs any trouble. That big shade tree out front: Anyone know what kind it is? Acacia, or ironwood maybe? It has "chi" for sure, and also gives lots of shade, which is a lot more important out here. read more

We stayed in Pioneertown last night and a local couple told us to try The Cafe for breakfast. We started making the trek home and found The Morongo Cafe off 29 Palms Highway. The parking lot was full so we thought that was a good sign. We walked in and sat at the only available table for two. The special on the board was Eggs Benedict. I debated between the breakfast burrito, Eggs Benedict, or the Banana Crunch French Toast. When asking our server her suggestion for first timers, she highly recommended the french toast. I got the half order since I normally don't do sweets for breakfast. It was so so so GOOD! My husband got two eggs over medium, hash browns, bacon, and wheat toast with coffee. His typical breakfast when we travel. We both cleared our plates and the total was $16. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling out to Palm Springs, Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree, or Pioneertown. Cute decor inside, very nice servers, and super clean. We noticed later that this is John's World Famous Morongo Valley Cafe & Museum. We will ask what the museum is all about next visit. They also have plenty of options for food (Chicken fried steak, grilled spam, hamburgers, french toast, corned beef hash, omelets, sandwiches, salads, and more).
