I had some delicious banana pancakes and my friends got the blueberry pancakes and then the combo meal with French toast and poached eggs. Overall the food was good! Orange juice was a bit too tangy. They didn't let my friend get chicken fingers at 10am(she's not a breakfast person) and there wasn't any time frames listed so that was disappointing. We just ate at Sylvia's. It was not good!! I felt the waitress was rude. I ask for a coke and I got a Pepsi. She didn't tell me it was a Pepsi. I would never order nor drink a Pepsi. Our burgers were very dry and one had the wrong cheese. The fries were terrible. They were limp as a noodle. I couldn't eat them. They were greasy. Horrible, horrible fries and I had to pay extra for them. We were sitting by the kitchen. Their garbage can, which was 4 feet away, was full to over flowing and it was disgusting! Warning this place is the real deal! Caught a morning flight into Bangor, heading to Bar Harbor. We decided to catch a snack at Sylvia's. This restaurant is truly a locals joint. The food is beyond good. Hubs grabbed the last slice of quiche with a side salad and i had the Trinity club. Oh boy, I should have brought friends to share. Very busy little joint inside a strip mall. I've eaten from here twice; once for takeout the other a sit down. They have gluten free bread but they use a shared toaster so celiacs beware. Large portions, you won't leave hungry. It's definitely a townie diner because the waitresses seemed to know everyone except us. We were just passing thru. While traveling through the area, we decided to grab some breakfast and then popped into Sylvia's Cafe without knowing what to expect. It was a Saturday, and the place was packed, but the wait was worth it! We put our name on the waiting list, and it was about a 20 min wait. Although the restaurant is located in a shopping strip, once you walk inside, you feel transported. From the beautiful mural in the back of the restaurant to the many Maine-themed posters, it all made us feel so cozy. Service was top-notch. Our server was attentive and friendly and made us feel very welcome. The extensive menu had a bit of all, from burgers to biscuits and gravy and - of course - all of your breakfast classics. Prices were excellent; most of the breakfast dishes also included coffee. I went with the #1 breakfast special, and it was SO much food: 3 types of meat, eggs, French toast, and potatoes. Pro-tip: upgrade your potatoes for $1.99 to include cheese, peppers, and onions. It was delicious! My partner had the biscuits and gravy and loved it as well. Unfortunately this mornings sausage and gravy was tangy runny and flourey and the breakfast potatoes were deep fried and had no taste. I saw all the favorable reviews and figured there must be more than meets the eye to what appeared to be a strip mall diner with interior corridor that smelled like moth balls.. But after being seated and served it became clear it is just a regular greasy spoon style diner without any differentiating specials or other features beyond the coconut cream pie which was quite good. Given the broad high quality options available in Bar Harbor I wasn't sure how this restaurant competed in the same league and average rating. read more

The portion sizes are big we had #3 sunny side up with bacon, ham, sausage and home fries, a lobster omelet and a kids pancake and sausage, the combo came with drinks. Lobster omlette was ok a bit creamy with generous portions of lobster added. There are a few bar chairs too in case tables are unavailable. The wait time was close to 40 mins so recommendations would be to avoid peak time. Immediately we upgraded to blueberry pancakes (DO IT!!), doubled the home fries on our 2nd visit since they were insanely delicious, we also added onions and peppers to the home fries and had them cook them up crispy. We came for lunch, my husband had the special Fried Haddock sandwich, which he loved. I was looking for something different - no gluten and low carb. They did not have gluten free choices, but they offered a salad. I asked if I could have protein, and she said they could make me a chef salad. It was a very simple salad, but it came with thick chunks of ham from their ham steak and thick chunks of roasted chicken. They even had a homemade blue cheese dressing that was light and flavorful.
