    best haddock sandwich ever...
    Daniel P.

got on the road later and hungrier than we'd hoped and Sylvia's was the first place we saw that was even remotely inviting. Sylvia's is typical of space in a multi-use building made to look safe for dining: big windows facing the parking lot and along the interior hallway, kitschy swag and signage and a too-big-and-bright mural of the area. efficient and friendly if not exceptional waitresses, serves breakfast, lunch, and breakfast for lunch so yeah, it's a diner... casual seating out front, chairs and tables in two rooms inside. hot black coffee in abundance; not too thin, not too weak, not too old so not too bad ;-) corned beef hash, taters, and two eggs up came out soon enough, a bit of a wait for the toast though; whites were set with the yolks bright and shiny, homefries were basic and could have used a shake of something seasonal, hash was a bit fine for scratch-made but the potato chunks were a nice touch.

While traveling through the area, we decided to grab some breakfast and then popped into Sylvia's Cafe without knowing what to expect. It was a Saturday, and the place was packed, but the wait was worth it! We put our name on the waiting list, and it was about a 20 min wait. Although the restaurant is located in a shopping strip, once you walk inside, you feel transported. From the beautiful mural in the back of the restaurant to the many Maine-themed posters, it all made us feel so cozy. Service was top-notch. Our server was attentive and friendly and made us feel very welcome. The extensive menu had a bit of all, from burgers to biscuits and gravy and - of course - all of your breakfast classics. Prices were excellent; most of the breakfast dishes also included coffee. I went with the #1 breakfast special, and it was SO much food: 3 types of meat, eggs, French toast, and potatoes. Pro-tip: upgrade your potatoes for $1.99 to include cheese, peppers, and onions. It was delicious! My partner had the biscuits and gravy and loved it as well. We can't wait to return once we're back in the area!

We arrived early thank goodness as I can see this place filling up fast for breakfast. The waitress was quick and friendly!! We started with a home made cinnamon roll, wicked good!!! I got the pumpkin pancakes, they were perfect!! You get 2 stacks, which I only could finish half of them, very filling! My husband got eggs, sausage, home fries and home made toast. Our waitress made sure of coffee was refilled. We'll definitely be back!

Corned beef hash (homemade? ) & eggs Nope.

Driving from Acadia, looking for home style breakfast before my flight back to Jersey. So...this review comes from a person who grew up in the diner capital and I guess I have high standards. The Place was clean and decorated, and comfy. Service very nice but very slow. Reason for 3 stars ( my lowest rating in awhile) was the food. Burnt coffee. Dry cold toast. Nasty "homemade" corned beef hash ( the hallmark of many a good diner). Not that I'll be in the area anytime soon, but would not return.

Nothing extraordinary but overall good service, a long wait for tables on Memorial Day weekend Sunday morning. The portion sizes are big we had #3 sunny side up with bacon, ham, sausage and home fries, a lobster omelet and a kids pancake and sausage, the combo came with drinks. Lobster omlette was ok a bit creamy with generous portions of lobster added. There are a few bar chairs too in case tables are unavailable. The wait time was close to 40 mins so recommendations would be to avoid peak time. A homely breakfast nook in the heart of Ellsworth might worth a visit, we got our recommendation also from our Airbnb owner.

Stopped here for breakfast during our stay in Maine. Our waitress was super friendly and great customer service. We were seated fairly quickly less then five min wait. We tried their biscuits and gravy w home fries and the blueberry stuffed french toast with real maple syrup. It was delicious! Recommend both! We also tried their pumpkin spice coffee which also was delicious. It's a very cozy mom and pop café feel. If you are looking for a traditional breakfast place stop here!

Meat lover's omelet, upgrade to a grilled wrap for $1.50 extra - delicious!

Maybe one of the wait staff was off or the rain drove everyone inside. We ordered drinks and got those. After about 20 minutes we were able to order. The wait staff was honest when I asked about the hash and said it isn't homemade. Food came out about 30 minutes later. They were hopping now! The food was excellent and made up for the long wait. Bacon that perfect spot between soggy and crisp, really tasty and crispy home fries. The pancakes were good, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Order the Maine maple syrup!! When the bill came I noticed that the short stack of pancakes we wanted, 2 pancakes, one with chocolate chips and one plain was charged as 2 individual ones plus the chocolate chips instead of a stack with chocolate chips. Short stack is $5.55 and they charged us $3.75 per pancake plus $1.75 for chocolate chips. All she had to say was we would be charged for individual pancakes but nothing! That was a major disappointment. Otherwise this would be 5 stars.

It comes as regular eggs Benedict but with regular bacon and hash on muffins alongside home fried potatoes! It was delicious, and I absolutely mean that in every definition of the word. I put a bit of Cholulu hot sauce, sslt/pepper to taste and the kid in me needed ketchup for the home fries. I drank OJ but at the bar they serve drinks so if ya want a Bloody or a Mimosa, they have it! Server was nice, but I didn't get her name. Prices were fair or maybe modest for the quality of food! Come enjoy! Roadside parking on Main St or lots of parking behind Finn's across the street. Big parking lot, lots of space and I was in a Jeep pulling a trailer! Have a great dining experience!

Not sure if they were having an off-day today or they've been sliding downhill but today's experience was far from ok. Starting with the good. It was quite busy when we arrived around 7:30 pm and despite this the waitstaff were very friendly and were helping each other out. The server who brought our drinks even brought shorter "kids-size" straws for the children. Very thoughtful. Our primary server (Kallie B.) was covering several tables in our section and had signaled that she was coming to take our order when she accidentally spilled a drink at the next table. She was apologetic to that that group and moved quickly to clean it up but knew that we had been waiting a long while to order, so asked another server to come and take our order. Again, thoughtful. The food was simply not good today. We were a group of 6 adults and 2 children. Most had fries with our meals. They were all very undercooked - as if they were rushed. The bacon on my wife's club sandwich was undercooked. Several of us left large portions of our meals barely touched because they just didn't taste good. I had ordered steak tips. I tried to eat the first two and were so chewy that I had to put them in my napkin. I left the rest on my plate. This leads to an important recommendation. While the staff's teamwork and friendliness was great, the servers would benefit from some training in attention to signs that customers are having issues with their meal. While our server did ask at one point how everything was, she did so hastily and said, "ok? Good." without waiting for an actual response. She didn't seem to notice that I hadn't eaten my $21 steak tips meal - or if she had noticed, didn't bother to ask about it. It felt insincere. Likewise, a lack of inquiry for the barely touched french fries and portions of several meals left on plates. In a word, today was disappointing. I hope they'll do better.

We came back the following night for a REAL treat... First of all, Tony was our server. What an absolute sweetheart!! He had nothing but fantastic recommendations for us. He was definitely not your standard "waiter". He spoke to us like we were regulars, which we appreciated, considering we were from Massachusetts. We ordered three of his suggestions: wings, fish and chips and the spicy margarita. Outside of what was recommended we also got the beer cheese and GIANT soft pretzel, bangers and mash and the creme brûlée. First off- this was my first time trying beer cheese, so I was beyond excited. I hate pretzels, however. Guess what?? They were BOTH SOOO GOOD!! The pretzel was the size of my giant head and was so soft & salty. It really paired well with the creamy beer cheese. I'd come back just for this appetizer every time. The wings too, actually! I was a little hesitant because I read the word "dill" on the menu but they really tasted more like Buffalo wings with a note of dill at the very end. I think I might be in love.... On to the main event! The Smithwick's beer battered fish and chips... WOW. It was a little different than I'm used to (which was a great thing in this case). The batter was thick and crispy (I'm used to thinner) and the haddock was super moist. Very fresh! I order this meal wherever I go and this is definitely in my top 3 (out of probably 50 others). I was hoping I could switch out the chips for fries because, well, I've never had traditional chips before! I must say I was pleasantly impressed though! They were the BEST and completed the dish perfectly. My fiancé had the bangers and mashed. He said it was good and very traditional. I did not indulge, so I can't relay that in my review. Last, we ended the meal with a MUST try....the creme brûlée. LEAVE ROOM FOR THIS DESSERT! The top was a hard sugar coating while the rest was truly a creamy dream. I might have to stop back in JUST for this before I head back home! 5 stars. Definitely. 6 stars for service!!
