I was here late Saturday afternoon during the soft opening with a group. The quality of the food was mostly excellent, with a few hiccups with the food and service which I'd associate with a soft opening. Ramen: We had the tonkotsu and tan tan ramen. Both broths were rich and creamy. Noodles had great consistency and texture. However, there were some inconsistencies. One of us who got the tonkotsu ramen only got one piece of pork belly and the others two pieces. The menu says 'kakuni', which is braised pork belly, but what we got seemed to be grilled, not braised. It was definitely not moist. The portions are certainly on the smaller end of the scale from what I've experienced in the Puget Sound, so if you are looking for a filling meal, you'll want to order appetizers or extra noodles and toppings. The base price of the ramen is $14.50-16, which is on the upper end. This is downtown Tacoma pricing. Appetizers: We shared the karaage and crispy beef tartare. Again great quality - the karaage was a little lighter than I'm used to, but that just means it's healthier for you! I've never had tartare before, but it tasted like a delicious meatball with a couple different sauces. Service: After being told it'd be about a 20 minute wait for a table, we were seated in about 5 minutes, which was a nice surprise. But for the 5 of us, the table had 4 napkins, 5 chopsticks, and 3 spoons. Ok... Not a big deal, but I'll chalk that up to the soft opening. Requests were immediately addressed, and the wait staff were pleasant. Other: The environment is quite trendy, with some Japanese artwork and dance/hip-hop music. It is only street parking, which can be hard to find. There also isn't much of a waiting area, so if this place gets popular, be ready to wait outside. At last, Tacoma finally has a real ramen shop, and I really want to come here again for the food, but because of the price and parking, it won't be as often as I'd like it to be. read more

I was visiting Tacoma and my friend talked about this place so highly, so of course, I was super excited. I also love Ramen so double plus. When I walked in, it was very bland. There's a cool painting in the back, but it looks like any restaurant. Nothing about the design made it stick out. There also weren't a lot of people for a Friday night. I ordered the tonkotsu and the pork belly was delicious! I loved the broth, the mushroom, everything except the ramen noodles itself. It was stuck together, and it was pretty lumpy. I couldn't figure out why that was, but it was. The service was pretty mediocre as well. It was just okay and I really wanted it to be spectacular. I'm not opposed to trying this place again for a second chance. It's located at a pretty cool spot. read more

Sub-par ramen at top prices. If you've ever had good, authentic ramen this place will disappoint. The broth is hit and miss, but lacks love. The noodles do not taste fresh or house-made. While watching "Stranger Things" last night, it got to the part where the slime monster was going into a sewer grate and suddenly it hit me..the craving for ramen. So I decided to try this place based on a couple of recommendations. I had the karaage and tonkatsu ramen. The karaage was made with cornmeal. It didn't taste bad but it didn't match the expectation I had which was something more like you know, actual karaage. The ramen was good, rich broth, noodles al dente and the pork was outstanding. Overall, it was similar to the episode of "Stranger Things" I watched. A little confusing, sorta gross, but overall pretty good. read more

First, there was no sign to locate the restaurant so it was a bit hard to find. The server was polite and had enough patience to answer all my friends' questions about the items on the menu. Good on that. So now the food. After looking at the menu I realized everything was very overpriced. Either the food is that good and worth it or they're just average tasting and freakin overpriced. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen ($15) and Oolong Tea ($5). The order came in quick, I would say less than 10 min. The broth was creamy in texture and it was pretty tasty. Ok so I lift up my noodles and take a bite. But noooo. The noodles are undercooked. (Like I understand if I'm making packaged ramen I don't like it too soft and mushy.) But this is like undercooked noodles. So the pork slices, it was tender and not bad. What basically ruined the ramen was the noodles. (By the way my friends said the same about their noodles too.) The oolong tea was like too expensive for a tiny portion. It's just oolong tea. If they lowered their price maybe I would come back. But after tonight, I'd rather go somewhere else. read more

We popped in at 6:45PM in a Monday night. They were able to seat a party of 4 pretty quickly. We ordered the bao, karaage and pork shoulder skewer to start and the the tonkotsu ramen with an extra egg. They noodles were good. I wasn't crazy for the bao or the skewer. The bao has a little too much going on for me and the skewer was on the dry side. I felt like everything was on the pricey side. The noodles were decent however, I did have my usual reaction to MSG...restaurant has confirmed that they don't add MSG however, I have never reacted unless Ajinomoto is in something...so my jury was out whether I will give this another shot or not. I think $15/bowl of ramen and $7 for one pork bao is yet another deterrent. I was excited for Tacoma to get a ramen spot. This Ramen-ya is not so much for me. read more

This restaurant is OUTSTANDING !! They got us in right away for our son's 23rd birthday dinner. I realize it wasn't their busiest time but they were very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was very cool- our fam loved the anime and Saylor Moon playing on the screens. Music was perfect and the decor very hip. But.....it was the food that made it all worth it!! We had about 4 appetizers and they were all delish!! The kimchi fries and wontons were soooo good! We were constantly getting water and the bartender did great with our tequila mules and my sons Manhattan. Everyone loved the Ramen and my Yakisoba was so good and a huge portion. They even brought out a birthday dessert for my son! We will def go back and recommend this place to everyone!! read more

We had the dumplings and fried chicken as an appetizer and they were perfectly cooked with delicious spicy, vinegary Asian sauces. Portions were very filling. The spicy miso was decently spicy and the Golden curry so good. Tan tan was tan outta tan (10/10), love the baby bak Choi and the meaty broth. The lavender drink tasted like a nectar-of-the-gods lavender syrup. Literally if a bee could have a favorite drink, it would be that. If you're lucky enough to come in when Sandy is your server, just know you're in for treat. Sandy is the sweetest, most down to earth, amazing server you will have the pleasure of eating with. I'm a fan but teetering on the brink of a three-star review. The first few times we went to Moshi Moshi the food and service were excellent. Things have gone downhill from there. When dining in, our food has been lukewarm, a little "off" (romaine lettuce), and poorly timed (appetizers arriving after the main event). When using Uber Eats, it's been all over the place. I'll stick to a recent example: my pork belly ramen arrived without the pork belly! I feel bad mentioning it because perhaps Uber Eats has contributed to an unmanageable situation for Moshi Moshi and other restaurants. All the same, if they're going to be an Uber Eats restaurant, they may need to create a better system for managing the details of the orders. That said, the ramen is delicious, and they've got some other great dishes (shrimp toast, dumplings...). read more

If you like a quick and cheap meal, this ramen house is the place. The pork belly off the "tonkatsu" will just melt in your mouth. Also, the drink menu has an Asian flare to it if you want to try something different. read more

Ordered the huynh dumplings, they were okay, not worth the price point. Ordered the tonkotsu and the broth had a pretty strong smokey flavor and was almost clear, it's was decent but not traditional tonkotsu broth nor worth the price. I enjoyed a bowl of Moshi Moshi's tonkatsu ramen. I don't consider myself an expert, but having had my fair share of ramen in and around Tokyo, I assert that this ramen was authentic. I fear American ramen can get a bit too heavy and overzealous with ingredients. While the broth wasn't the most complex tonkotsu out there, it was far from a stew. I particularly enjoyed the noodles and nice helping of pork. Tacoma is lucky to have this wonderful ramen joint and I'll definitely be back to try the spicy miso. Oishi desu! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally did so last night. I love restaurants that are busy and efficient and Moshi Moshi was one of those places. Every table was full and yet it wasn't loud or "busy", if you know what I mean. The staff was great. The reason for the three stars instead of more was the food was just so so. I've never eaten "real" ramen before, so I can't compare it to that. But my dish (the top ramen one on the menu) was just bland. Hubby had the curry ramen and it was tasty. Of course I ate it all, so it wasn't terrible. But it could have definitely used a little salt or msg or something. The musubi was lacking in flavor and fry and fell apart in my hands. Moshi Moshi is one of the best ramen spots I've had period. Very inviting and personable. I ordered a couple apps and ramen. For starters we ordered the house sake which was your basic sake. Still good. Shishito peppers, boiled dumplings, and chicken Yakitori. The peppers were cooked perfectly and the sauce that came with added a balance to the crunchiness of the peppers. The dumplings were plated beautifully. Nice texture and flavor. The chicken Yakitori had great char on the outside and the inside was juicy. For my entree I ordered Tonkotsu. Basic Ramen dish. Just elevated. Every single component in the dish was made perfectly. I added spam and corn to the dish. I will try to visit here at least twice a month. Everyone needs to try Moshi Moshi. read more

The food was super tasty! I did the ramen option where you choose a broth and toppings (because I'm a picky eater). The waitress was really good about checking on us, but also giving space. It was just a great experience there. We got the dumplings for a started and they were so flavorful! This is my first time trying ramen except for the old college 6 packs for a dollar kind. I tried the wild mushroom ramen and was pleasantly surprised. With an earthy broth and handmade noodles, I really enjoyed it. Additionally we tried the wagyu beef ( which I learned will be leaving the menu soon- please try while it is still available). The beef is served with a variety of topping to add including black garlic, umeboshi plum & ginger sauce, and marinated mushrooms. Very tasty :-). Also we had the pork and chicken skewers, and pork belly bao. So many things to try all very flavorful and not heavy to weigh you down. Still in their first month since opening, they are trying out different items.Each time you go it's a new experience. The staff is very attentive and accommodating you want the opportunity to meet a top chef contestant, you can see Aaron Grissom in person. Going down south to visit my family, Moshi Moshi has always a staple stop before going back home. I'd been going to the place ever since it opened and always ended up ordering the tonkotsu ramen because it was probably the best tonkotsu I've ever had. I recently returned after a few months and saw the menu had been updated, expecting my favorite dish, I ordered the tonkotsu but unfortunately it wasn't the same at all. I've been to my fair share of ramen restaurants, but the tonkotsu broth that moshi moshi used to serve was incomparable to anything I've ever had, a very full broth with rich creamy flavors and the perfect balance of heat. I love the food I got from here! I ordered from Uber Eats as it had nice ratings and I was interested in the food they served, and I absolutely loved the experience! The yakisoba is so different from any I've gotten at regular teriyaki restaurants - it was so savory and the mayo on top made it extra tasty!
