Let me be the first person to say, this place sucks big effing balls!!! I'm gonna be honest here, the only reason why I drove all the way to downtown to visit this stupid craft store (when there is a Joann's just blocks away from where I live) is because I wanted to save money. Yes, I was soooo cheap that I willingly drove 15 miles, trek through skid row, got harassed by hobos and parked in urine laced streets just to save a buck. But thats ok, I'm a big girl, I can totally handle hobos, cat calls and urine stench. I work in a strip mall where there are cat calling jerks next door and in an office where our customers don't know how to aim, so stepping on urine isn't anything new to me. But getting RIPPED OFF...awww hell no!!! Moskatel..Michaels whatever the eff this place is, is a total sham. Lets be honest here, the only reason why most of us make the journey to the floral district in downtown is because we want to save money..maybe some of us like the urine smell and the pan handlers, but, I'm gonna guess, for most of us, it's the first choice. But the prices here are outrageous, some of the items cost more than Michaels, their wooden crafts, scrapbooking supplies, Wilton baking supplies, wedding crafts, faux florals, moss....etc. are all pricer and did I mention they don't have coupons. I admit, they have a huge inventory of every possible crafting item you can think up, but to be honest, it wasn't worth my time. It's genius really, they put this place in downtown and price everything with those tacky neon stickers and fool people into believing that they're getting a bargain, but in actuality, they're really getting ripped off! i do love mosky's. i have no control over myself here. i want everything in the store. all the time. if you're coming for holiday specific items: come early. halloween=early-mid september christmas=early november the good stuff goes fast. they close fairly early. usually around 5pm but the parking garage closes at 4:30. if you're walking around downtown and come back after 4:30, you'll have to walk around the block down San Julian through the sea of crack bums. i think i saw a dude with elephantitus of the face one time. read more

Moskatels is the grand-daddy of all craft stores. It has all your floral and party supply needs. I like to come here when I need a bunch of vases, artificial flowers, ribbon, or other party supplies. They have a huge selection and they usually have what I am looking for. They have an adjacent parking structure and will validate for 2 hours with purchase. read more

Ok, this is almost too unreal to even be believed. The staff of Moskatel's was restocking, so the aisles were completely jammed with boxes in the middle of the day. I was trying to navigate my TINY cart and it actually got stuck between some boxes. I was wrestling with it to get it free when an employee actually walked past and chuckled to himself. Granted the whole scenario was kind of funny, but REALLY? Also when I approached another member of the staff to inquire about something, he actually pulled out his cell phone in the middle of my question and started texting. Since Moscatel's has joined together with Michael's I think the prices and items have changed. There's less diverse items and more expensive. It's become a Michael's downtown. I used to look forward to roaming shelves Moscatel's to find different creative items. I have to say bring back the buyer that used be there. Oh, you have to make sure to buy something, because if you don't find what you are looking for they will not validate your parking. I made the mistake of driving all the way from Santa Monica to see if I could find what I was looking for, because I usually always found it at Moscatel's, they didn't have it, they were out of stock & the lady refused to validate my parking, so I had to buy something. read more

Love love love this place... Fyi they take Michaels coupons too!!! They have way more then Michaels. They have way more discounts then Michaels. You will find everything you need there. I bought almost everything for my wedding here. They have almost everything you can think of for your business, party, wedding, baby shower, etc.... It is huge and you might have to walk around looking for a sales associate but I rather look for one then being followed by one. They validate. So park in the parking lot. Better to pay if you go over what they validate then get a fifty dollar ticket. Plus it's less scary if your not use to the area. Great place to shop. read more

Finally came to this store and it was very good. They did have a great selection but I was disappointed with the prices. I found the Craft Smart acrylic paints so much cheaper at Michaels (how often does that happen?). They had large wire cutters I was going to purchase but a lady standing next to me said she found them cheaper at Home Depot. She was right. $9 cheaper! They were missing a lot of specific items I was looking for, but I found other great things. Staff is not great. Can't find anyone on the floor, but in fairness they were very busy at the cashier stand. I asked them about some miniatures they had on display - they had no idea if they had them at all. I did find a lot of things, great selection, not so great prices. Ended up buying most of what I needed at Michaels & 99 Cent store. read more

Someone brought me here once ages ago, and I couldn't find my way back here, until I looked it up on yelp! This place is amazing! It has all the general stuff you would need for arts and crafts, baking, decorating, floral, christmas stuff...you name it. And its a bit cheaper than what you would find at normal arts and craft stores. I really like the variety of craft products they sell. They have a ton of stuff for party planning and crafts. They also have a big selection of kids crafts and seasonal decor. They also have a huge selection of fake flowers and plants and a zillion different kinds of vases and containers. The location is really convenient for me as I live in downtown. And free 2 hour parking in their lot (with validation if you purchase $4 or more) is also nice. These are the things that will ensure that I keep returning to Moskatels to shop. However, it is important to recognize the pitfalls of Moskatels as well to ensure that new shoppers don't go in with too high of expectations. The customer service is pretty bad. The people who work there don't really seem knowledgeable about the products they sell and often act like it's a chore to help you out. When I was there, one woman had to ask a cashier 6 times to let her into the restroom. The workers also seem to care more about talking among themselves than doing their work quickly and efficiently. The last I was there, I had to step over a big pile of empty boxes to get some picture frames while three employees were chatting next to me. Their supervisor came by to tell them to clean up the boxes, but thy didn't respond well to her. I'm also unclear as to the extent that this is considered a MIchaels. The cashier told me that they only take the 40% and 50% off Michaels coupons and they're only for MIchaels products. I didn't really know what she meant by that. I had a 20% off coupon that they said they couldn't take. The area around Moskatel's is also a bit run down, so if you're not used to that environment, this area will make you nervous. Overall, I'll continue to shop here because it's convenient and they most likely have what I need. But don't go in expecting much in terms of customer service. read more

Not only is this place ridiculously expensive but apparently their employees lack customer service and common knowledge. I asked an employee if they sell strings of beads.. And he didn't know what I was talking about... I basically had to paint the picture for him to get what I was talking about and I still think that he didn't understand me... I told him " so at bead stores they have these rolls of beads on a string, you tell the how much you want.. Do you guys carry that?" He had to go ask his manager because he didn't know what I was talking about.. So fast forward to our check out experience my sister in law and I were paying and asked to get out parking ticket validated. My purchase my 17 dollars and her purchase was of 3 dollars. Since she didn't make a 4 dollar purchase she didn't want to because she didn't meet the minimum requirement. She told her that it was two purchase and she still declined it. I basically grabbed the ticket and handed it to her, I don't understand why make things more difficult than what it is.. How could a 20 dollar purchase combined not meet the minimum purchase requirement... And why would she make me grab the ticket out of my sister in law's hand just to give it back to her again.. When I entered and took a look around I realized this is just another Michaels. The prices were not any lower from the Michaels near my home. I drove in search of this place for little to no savings. 3.5 stars, The prices are the same as any arts and craft store near your home and on top of that you can find the same items on Amazon for way less and the dollar tree. So if your coming here thinking the prices will be cheaper than Michael's your wrong. Also if your buying in bulk they will not give you a discount unless you own a business. Someone mentioned while I was here that "it's basically a Michaels on steroids" this is very true!!! You can spend the entire day here, it has a huge selection of almost everything from decor,flowers,vases,party supplies and much much more. Overall it's worth coming if you are going to make a very large purchase for an even or something because you can find almost everything here. So yeah, lines are long and you also pay for parking. I asked an employee, petite young, Hispanic female, where an item was located. Annoyed & without hesitation, she directed me next door to their other store, only for me to locate the item in less than a minute, a few feet away from where we were standing. She was still working in the area, so I informed her that I located the item...right here. She had NOTHING to say. My question is, why work in customer service if you don't want to serve the customer? Why not work in the stock room, receiving, etc? They have an excellent selection of items, but everything is a little overpriced. When it comes to sale and clearance items, they go to lengths to refuse the sale price. This is a large arts & crafts store. The neigborhood is Skid Row so it could intimadate some. However, they have great indoor parking making it a safe place to visit. I have always found the staff helpful and courteous. They carry basic craft supplies and for the most part keep up on their inventory. However if you are looking for something unique you won't find it. They keep to the traditional items. They do have a lot of artifical flowers and trees. read more

If you are a DIY Crafter, professional or amateur florist (lots of vases, Styrofoam balls/squares, etc.) or if you just can't find that one thing you need from Michael's or Party City....you definitely need to visit Moskatels. They have good prices on some items, but then there are some things that I know that I have bought from Party City (like square plastic plates) and they were $3-4 more expensive here. Lots of party decorations for almost every occasion and great place to come if you are on budget and need to create centerpieces or party favors for guests. read more

This is a bad review for the customer service, I was at the cashier and I told the cashier "hey, I'm on a rush I parked my car outside and I don't have much time left" (I understand they have parking there). And the girl had all the prices wrong and they didn't even had the discounts on the computer, I told her "the price is incorrect" and she was "fixing" it she took over 10 minutes and she didn't even have the real price, i step out and had the guy writing me a ticket! Btw it was a Thursday at 2:30 and there were no more people there! read more
