While wandering through the flower district in search of Christmas flowers and fresh pine wreaths, we stopped into Moskatels for more arts and crafts and decorating ideas. This store is a huge, massive and sprawling crafters dream! Michael's Arts & Crafts shares this location since Moskatels is its division with focus on floral supplies. There are aisles of ribbons and threads that are arranged by color, width, material and uses. Styrofoam molds, glass terrariums, vases, glitter, lights, and animated figurines can be found here, too. Seasonal decorations are nicely arranged with a section dedicated to Christmas decorations. There are various plain or decorated, colors, shapes and sizes of artificial Christmas trees that you can chose from. We managed to leave with a couple bags of additional red and gold Christmas decorations. We were overwhelmed and delirious while browsing the store. We worked up an appetite for brunch. which led us to another adventure at the nearby Grand Central Market! read more

I'm in the miniature world and this place has many useful supplies, from a wide selection of steel floral wire (there's 2 different sections of it), to various little miniature props, floral items, containers, foam, etc... I was walking up with my items and the cashier just looked at me and the first thing she said was, "Those are regular price items" with an attitude. "OK? AND" ... she didn't even let me place my items on the counter. I just got my stuff and left with another cashier. The second girl that helped me was extremely nice. Overall, this place is one of my favorites. I always get treated nicely, which is the reason why I always come here for all my party stuff. This place is literally a craft lovers dream!!! It is MASSSSSIVE but pretty overpriced. You're better off going to Michaels and using coupons. I loved it because there was so much to look at but it also can be really overwhelming if you don't know what you need prior to going in. I came for florals and greenery and left with neither because they were way overpriced here. They did have some fun gigantic sunflowers that I've never seen before. Customer service was ok, the girl who rang me up gave me so much attitude when I asked her how much something was that didn't have a tag and she seemed annoyed that she had to call to find the price of it. I would probably not visit again due to price and customer service. The location is also in downtown LA in the flower district but there are a lot of sketchy homeless people around the area too. This is the perfect spot to come to for any event you're having. You find just about everything you pin on on Pinterest! (Lol) Hundreds of color and themes to choose from. They have beads, ribbons, glass candy jars, balloons, wedding centerpieces and it goes on and on. The building looks like a wearhouse from the inside. My suggestion to anyone who needs to come here. Is to come early like when they first open. (6:30a.m, they open @ 6 a.m) Bring cash so you don't have to run your cards. Even though they do except credit and debit cards. If you're buying in bulk bring a personal push cart because the parking SUCKS down there. Plus you just don't want to be walking far with your purchases. This store gets packed QUICKLY! Get in and get out have a plan and stick to it! Have what your looking for written down. Unless you have time to browse. But honestly it get so damn crowded you wouldn't want to be in there for long. Stopped by for the first time ever. I had no idea this store existed. I didn't find what I needed, but they had a variety of items that you cannot find at Michaels or Party City. Found some candles that the husbear and I both loved and bought some artificial plants that look real. Having a studio Down town we are gone for weeks and when we alway return some are dead. This is a crafter's dream. it's like a giant Michael's. I needed some inspiration for some decorations for my forest theme wedding. I got two hollow tree stump sections that will be good vases for my flowers $10 each). I also got a cute little steel bucket with a rim of copper ($8). I also got a basket that looks like it's made out of moss (1$4). It definitely isn't much of a discount but it has everything you could possibly imagine. My fiancé and I came all the way from the inland Empire just to buy a monster amintronic which was the penny wise I saw last week and now we came back to buy it with a truck to transport and the display wasn't working. Out of the probably 20 employees working when I got there not one was able to get the batteries which they said was locked in the managers office to get the monster working so I could show my fiancé what it did before we spent $300 to buy it. Very unorganized for what is it supposed to be one of their peak seasons so I over heard an employee saying. We came on a Sunday so they should have been on their A game since it was a weekend. I've been going here for years. Pricing is a little more expensive, but it's convenient since I work in DTLA. I was disappointed to learn that an item that I recently purchased was DOUBLE in price at Moskatels. I purchased this Alien statue for $217 only to find it half the price on Amazon for $110.00. Holiday items cannot be returned/exchanged and the store does not price match. Should have done my homework before being so quick to buy. Lesson learned. Shop around folks. read more

I needed a 2" bamboo pole and they had it in stock, bit more that I wanted to spend but with the price of fuel Huntington Beach was the next closest place. They open at 6:00am and that is when I arrived. Vast selection of many Items but I just need the one thing. Don't forget your parking ticket as they vaildate parking for 2 hours. DO NOT DO IT... I bought a $40 dollar shadow box that had some damage and was unwrapped. So I asked for a discount because it was poorly handled in the store...10% off. Sadly, it didn't fit for the item I wanted to use it for. I tried to return the next day and was denied by two manager on duty when clearly the receipt says, "MOSKATEL'S WILL GLADLY GIVE YOU A REFUND OR EXCHANGE WITH YOUR RECEIPT WITHIN 5 DAYS OF PURCHASE" Manager on duty tells me that since it was a final sale they could not do anything for me. Especially not even give me store credit. No where did it say final sale on the item. BEWARE - look at all items and ask if you can return it. Will be reporting this store to the BBB. This place is Michael's on steroids. I needed to get some crafts to help my stepdaughter complete a project and was floored by the selection. So floored I spent a lot of money, but the project looked fabulous so I'm ok with it. Had quite a bit of supplies left over, and I was able to return with no problem. One star off because the cashiers are some of the slowest people I have ever experienced in my life. But If I'm grading overall, the selection and variety put weight the cashiers. Pro tip: being your own bag ( a big one ) and avoid getting a cart if you can help it. Especially on weekends. read more

I love this place and hands down they have the best silk flowers, which everyone always asks me where I get them because of the quality. They have so many floral and craft supplies, some are the same items as Michael's but then they have so much more. They even have a whole back area with bulk items and separate cashiers for wholesalers, and parking for 2 floors above the building, $10 minimum purchase for validation. Service is ok, sometimes really great, depending on the familiar faces I usually see when checking out. But this is where my review comes in. I've been coming to Moskatel's for years and am familiar with the way they move merchandise in the floral department, with seasonal flowers always on sale on the main aisle, and clear signs saying percentage off, usually ranging from 40-70% depending how deep into the season it is. These merchandise change over seasons or as they get sold out. I picked up beautiful quality stems of silk flowers from the main aisle, clearly marked 50% off, where they have been for a month or so. This pink and green haired Latina cashier insisted they weren't on sale, called for someone in the floral dept to confirm. So we wait, and this lady comes and tells her it is on sale because it's on the aisle. Ok. I finish paying, and everything is fine, and as I'm about to leave, I hear her say out loud: "they weren't on sale, but someone put them on the aisle, so they had to honor it." Was that necessary? No. Was it the truth? Nope, not it, either. I'm attaching a photo of the section and the sign. I love Moskatel's and would give them 5 stars, but I think people like that leave a bad taste to any business. read more

There are rats everywhere in the store. They go to the bathroom on the products and the employees are still made to put the soiled items on the shelves. The employees have to make loud noises every time they go into the back rooms to scare the rats away. Rats constantly die in the store and cause horrific smells to linger because they cannot find them. It can also reach over 100 degrees inside the store because their air conditioner has been broken for almost 5 years. read more

They had some beautiful wax orchids that looked almost real. So I came over the weekend to find party supplies for my daughter's 3rd Birthday. I was recommended this place from family members who have thrown extravagant party's. This place is like a humongous Michaels in downtown LA, across from the flower mart. They do have there own parking above the store, and they vaildate for 2 hours. Place was real busy on Saturday. They do have a lot of stuff, seasonal and non seasonal, to wedding stuff, quinceneras, etc etc. We ended up returning some stuff on Sunday, and we just found out, this is the day to go. Huge. Just huge. THE AMBIANCE: Moskatels is an amazing crafts store in the Fashion District. I mean, wow. You can find everything from balloons for special occasions, home/wedding/party decor, and holidays/seasons decorations. Currently, they have a Halloween themed set up towards the back left (if you enter through Julian) with witches and scary people. (Check out my video). Moskatels has two (2) separate warehouse rooms. The room in the back appears to be a "wholesale" room and I have read in other reviews that you can get a membership and get a deal when you buy items in the bulk. I was informed by the cashier that Moskatels is a sister store to Michael's and that there are some items labeled Michael's in their store. THE PRICES: You can find a lot of things at Moskatels for cheap prices. I saw some nice, tall, glass, vases for $1, $2 and soooo many holiday decorations. It was pretty cool. The cashier told me that Moskatels honors Michael's coupons but on select items and at certain percentages off. I would suggest you speak with someone at Moskatels regarding the specifics of their Michael's coupon honors. I purchased two (2) large, gold balloons "3" "0" at $5 something each, which I hear are normally $6/$7+ at chain stores like Ralphs, Vons, etc. THE TIPS: There are two (2) cash register areas in the main room of Moskatels (one at the Julian entrance and the other in the back left) and one (1) cash register area in the wholesale room (I believe it only serves wholesale consumers). Mosktels also has free two (2) hour parking up a ramp off of Julian and you get validated for those hours with a purchase of $4. read more

If Michael's had an outlet store, this would be it. Oh wait, this IS Michael's outlet store! I've been coming here since I was a wee lad and the place hasnt changed much even after the takeover by Michael's. Aisles and aisles of cheap crafting items abound, come here to plan your wedding, mitzvah, quincenera, murder mystery night, or just to explore your inner matronly old lady. I am man enough to admit i would crochet a poodle, albeit a rabid one, and this is the place i would come to get yarn, flaming googly eyes, and foam. Trips here for halloween and xmas are a must, just prepared to price check before you buy as bargains sit on the shelves right next to ripoffs. But its always fun and inspirational. read more

This review is long overdue and I realize as I'm shopping around looking for wedding centerpieces and crafts that no shop can compare to Moskatels. First off it's HUGE, think Michael's times 10! There are isles of ribbons, seasonal decor, tissue paper, yarn, fake flowers, a room full of just vases from center piece size to one places at the head of an isle, and all sorts of crafts. Aside from the large selection of everything and anything, the prices were also really reasonably priced. The people who work here are pretty knowledgeable and helpful even when it's busy which is was a pleasant surprise for me. This is like a one stop shop for DIY weddings or other events. You seriously get the most bang for your buck and the quality is good too. **NOTE** Parking in this area is tough especially on weekends so go early. If you are lucky enough to snag a spot in their parking lot know that with a $4 minimum purchase the spot is validated! Also, it's in the heart of the flower district so there are so many areas to inspire your flower needs. Lastly, if you're a last minute holiday decor shopper come a the day before to get even larger discounts off the holiday stuff (50-75% off!!). Seriously, how can you not love this place?!? read more

One stop crafting shop! I can visit 10+ stores in the pinata/party district and will still end up here for those things I can't find (I'm looking at you, berry colored tablecloths). PARKING: Part in their lot above the store-- they give you validation if you spend at least $10. It's really helpful if you want to go here and another store nearby (shhh don't tell them I do this) SELECTION: Their seasonal selection is great, particularly around Halloween and Christmas. General craft selection is great as well. One thing is the disposable cookware/tableware section is missing some staples items (like chafing dish selection and basic disposable cups). PRICE: Great prices comparable with stores in the pinata/party district, though you can't haggle. Their deals on floral foam are unbeatable when there's a sale, so check often. STAFF: With any large, really busy store in the are, staff can be a hit and miss. However, I personally have had some REALLY great people help me. I have always wanted to go here for the longest time. I barely scratched the surface going around during their last hour of business. I just wished they'd stay open a little bit later. This is a craft person's paradise. They have supplies for almost anything you can think of. From baking, painting, jewelry, and even silk floral design. There are rows of selections to choose from. I remember reading a review about giving yourself enough time to go around the store, which is definitely true. If you have a party to plan, this is a one stop shop to go to if you're in a time crunch. Every item you need for your table scape to party favors is here. Just have your party list handy because you could easily be side tracked and end up roaming at an aisle you may find interesting. Moskatels offers two free hours of parking with validation and a minimum purchase of four dollars. That is why I plan to go back and give updates on the merchandise I find interesting at this store. I was DTLA and when too sooo many stores I forgot to check in at many of them and I guess this is one of them. I was here on Saturday Sept 5 and returned on Tues Sept 8, I was so excited to be back and have the time to explore the new changes they made to Moskatels. They Turned Up this store and I was there for hours just looking and taking notes of what I will purchase for the holidays when I return and return I will, I will, I will. On this visit I was purchasing cake supplies and some decorations for a Boy's baby shower, (I think they favor girl's as I had to keep asking for BLUE THINGS) Any Hoo, I did eventually get all the supplies I needed for that day and a few items not needed, JUST BECAUSE. Huge and a bit overwhelming. Glad they validate for two hours if you spend $4.00 or more. Lots of things to look at. I wish they had bigger signs to tell you where certain things are. Not a huge selection of pomanders but decent. Lanterns are expensive and are always low on white. Silk flowers are still pricey but better than Michael's. Be sure to watch the register as they scan, sometimes they don't know what's on sale and can run the risk of charging you full price so pay attention! Parking validation is near the registers in the middle closest to the elevator entrance. Many DIY brides in the store. read more
