We did the leave key reservation and they forgot about us. We were lucky to find some nice people nearby who let us stay with them, but after traveling all day it was not the comfortable night we had in mind. Worst part is this was the first night of our honeymoon. Just to be safe, a few days earlier we called ahead to their sister hostel to confirm our reservation and they lost it, which led us to a "reserved" spot here and both places screwed us over. Such a cool spot. The dorm rooms are small, but cheap and they get the job done. These are either female or male only rooms with 8 bunk beds and a shared bathroom. Great option if you want to save money and are really only looking for a place to sleep at the end of the day. Private rooms are also available. You can get one with it's own bathroom, or save a little money and opt for a shared bathroom. This place is old (read: charming and quirky), so don't expect things to be perfect. For example, there is no air conditioning...but they have fans and space heaters, which usually do the trick. Also, breakfast is provided, but it's a bit skimpy. But you're right next door to Macy's - a great local coffee/sandwich place. Located right downtown, easy walking distance to tons of bars, shops, and restaurants. Free WiFi and lots of things to do around the property - books, pool table, board games...if you're bored here, it's your own darn fault. My favorite part were the people I met. Some traveling on their own, some were traveling with others. Many people from outside the U.S. If you see a group playing horseshoes or grilling in the courtyard, join it. Most likely, you'll learn a lot, laugh a lot, and meet some awesome folks. Lastly, the staff is really helpful. Ask them anything. But...if you ask Lisa about a hike and she directs you to Mount Eldon...get ready to hike your pants off and work very very hard! read more

Good place to stay if on a shoestring budget. Not my favorite place to stay while visiting flagstaff, but if it's $66 a night for the "Delux" room here and $140 for a room at the downtown Rodeway Inn, I'll stay here. In fact, if the prices were the same I'd still choose Du Beau. The location is very good for downtown and plenty of restaurants. Very friendly staff and a nice courtyard area for guests to play horseshoes, cards, or grill out. read more

Okay, this place is fantastic! I had found out about this place in my research for some Route 66 adventures and I'm so glad, because it truly is an absolute gem! This place is old, 1920's old, and it has so much history and charm that if you care about that sort of thing (you should) it will enhance your stay at Motel DuBeau. The person at the check in desk was very friendly and welcoming, the office was super cute...Everything about this place is cute. It would seem the attached wine bar/lounge is currently out of commission due to the pandemic (as it should be), so we'll hopefully get to experience that some other time. Our room was as clean and well prepared for my wife and I as you can possibly imagine for a 1920's era motel. The owners and employees clearly care deeply about making the little motel a destination...it totally shows. There isn't air conditioning in the room, only windows that open and a fan. With the window open (we're here in Summertime) it's totally fine. All good. There appears to be a heater. Again, this is a small, old, motel one block South of Route 66 and downtown Flagstaff. It's not a modern place, but that's what makes it perfect. The price we paid for our room was reasonable, especially when we consider how close (absolutely walking distance) we are to so many cool things. The room is tiny, but perfect for a couple, the bed and linens are nice and clean, as are the other tasteful furniture items in the room. Original wood floors, awesome! Original windows, doors, hardware.... it's all lovingly taken care of! If you're a hotel snob, you're barking up the wrong tree, but if you enjoy staying in a historic, impeccably maintained, clean and cared for motel, full of the memory and charm, I really can't see you being disappointed here. I love the restaurant and the people that work here are very friendly. The buildings are old and could use some paint here and there but it's great for the price. However the room management and cleaning could REALLY use some work! The floors are sticky and the comforter was stained and even had food on it! WTF?! Also the mattress was nearly as hard as wood and the sink had graffiti like scratches in it. :( read more

I absolutely loved my stay here. Perfect for solo travelers, couples, or even 3-4 people if you get the right room. Originally just did a basic room but then upgraded because a friend decided to join my boyfriend and I. If you can, get room 12. It has a little creek view from the bedroom window and bathroom. Staff was friendly and helpful. I had a little problems with check in and I was unaware of the fact that they would be closed from 12:30-4 but my check in time online was made for 1/2pm. Kinda threw me for a loop but the owners heard my story and compensated with a little discount. I'll definitely be returning for my text stay in flagstaff. By far the best budget stay in flagstaff. Cute, charming historic building, with lots of character in the heart of downtown Flag, and walking distance to everything. There is a courtyard to hang out in, as well as a shares kitchen, dining area, living room, jukebox, etc., and continental breakfast. The restaurant attached, (currently closed due to Covid) is excellent, and one of our go to spots in Flag, with an eclectic menu featuring food around the world, including a delicious spaghetti and meatballs, if you want to go classic. We have also stayed at the owner's air bnb in their home, which we also loved. Let's just say, we are big fans of all these folks have to offer. Cheers Lisa and John! read more

We stayed at Motel DeBeau twice this past summer. We prefer to stay at historic places and places that have character. They may not have AC but with night temperatures cool enough we opened our windows, turned on the fans. We loved being able to walk to all the coffee shops, breweries and local eating establishments. On our last stay an afternoon rain storm blew in. Several people opened their doors and stood in the doorway watching it rain. We also like having a kitchen to cook meals. We will stay there every time we visit. My only suggestion to the owner is to put more screens on the windows. We would have loved to open all the windows. read more

Motel DuBeau - Hotels Near Me - Flagstaff, Arizona

This was my first hostel experience and for that, I am truly sorry because it was wonderful! This place has a courtyard and a community area to hang out in. Complete with board games, a juke box, and other fun things. A fully stoked kitchen! Everyone was so wonderful. Customer service was excellent. I would advise if you are visiting in the winter months to bring extra blankets because until we turned the heat on- it was real chilly inside. We left the heat on and went to eat across the street and came back and it was warmer but we were glad we brought the extra linens. Definitely plan on staying here again when I visit soon. read more

For what it is, Motel DuBeau was GREAT. They were SUPER nice, the sheets were orange with white polka dots, the vibe over there feels nice and light and safe, and it's affordable times a million. I had been driving around Flagstaff trying to find a place to stay, and then I finally realized I should just Yelp, and you Yelpers did not disappoint. I DEFINITELY recommend Motel DuBeau. Very disappointed. Online images and descriptions are very deceiving. The rooms do not have air conditioning. This is not stated on their website. It was 100 degrees during our stay. They have only window fans, not even window air conditioners. Rooms need upgrades also, they are very dark. I broke my one rule, if the name states "motel", I do not stay there. I guess I will stand by my one rule from now on. One last thing, their prices aren't super high, but too high for what they offer. read more

Treasure! Found this cozy little motel/hostel last minute rolling through town, tired and hungry. Dylan at the front desk was a sweetheart. The price was right, there was availability, and breakfast was included. Score;) What he didn't say was that we were walking distance from a fabulous wine bar and late night pizza joint. Bonus! In the morning, we explored downtown flagstaff and filled our bellies with oatmeal & fresh fruit. The place is super cute, extremely clean, the staff is friendly, and the location is quite convenient. Note: It's near the railroad tracks and trains do run often, so light sleepers and uber particular peeps would hate it. They may want to pay double and stay down the street at one of the name brand hotels. read more

Best Hostel Ever. Anywhere. I have been staying in hostels all over the world for over 25 years. This hostel is easily in my top 5. Staff was genuinely friendly and exceptionally knowledgeable. My room was impeccably clean. And overall, I felt like I was able to experience the "vibe" of Flagstaff (and the Grand Canyon) in a way I never could have if I had stayed at a hotel. No No. Do not go here if you want clean. The other reviewers did not stay in my room. $75. Small, sheets not clean and bedspread had a stain and rip. Curtains didn't keep outside lights out, so it was light all night long. Bathroom was so small no where to put your stuff. To be fair the young lady at the front office gave us clean sheets and was very pleasant. The flat screen tv was nice and the heaters worked well. But all and all I would call this place a dump. Sorry owners but it needs lots of work. The did give us $20 off after complaining. We came in the dark and after leaving saw there are plenty of nice hotels all over town. Hope this saves the next person looking for good value find something elsewhere read more

Can't recommend this place enough. Has real charm and atmosphere, not like the chain hotels that are all the same (and over twice the price). Everything was clean, and the staff was super friendly. I was a little worried about the lack of A/C and the possibility of noise from the nearby train station, but neither was a problem. I also went on the Grand Canyon hiking tour with James, which was phenomenal -- I highly recommend. Will likely be back again someday. read more

Let me tell you about the time I went to Flagstaff. Me and a buddy were passing through on a motorcycle trip to Phoenix. So I strapped an onion to my belt - which was the style at the time. Now, to stay at DuBeau cost a nickel and in those days nickels had pictures of bumblebees on them - 'give me five bees for a quarter you'd say'... but I digress. The stay there was pleasant and cost efficient. I'm not sure if it's considered a hostel but we stayed in a two bed bedroom that was roomy and comfortable. The staff was super friendly and helpful about what to do while in Flagstaff. Had dinner at the adjacent restaurant which I'm not sure if it's affiliated with DuBeau but it was amazing. Now what comes next is that I accidentally left a pair of riding pants there. A pair of brown pants that are too expensive and too skinny at the same time but dear to my heart none the less. So much so that I called to have them shipped back to me in Colorado. The good folks at DuBeau happily obliged. Unfortunately they did not arrive until I had moved to another state (in hind sight i should have offered my new address to be since I already had secured housing). I called again and left my new address in hopes that my pants would be returned to sender (DuBeau) but thinking I had seen the last of those overly priced, overly tight, brown pants. Well let me tell you now, much to my delight, those ugly brown britches found their way right at my doorstep in good 'ol Portland, OR. The moral of the story is that if you ever stay in Flagstaff, stay at DuBeau - and keep your pants. read more

I often visit Flagstaff during my travels, and this place was always my go to place - but not now. I just can't stay here anymore. The place has an old motel feel and is right in the heart of Flagstaff, next to Macy's Cafe, (a great Euro style cafe), and right near Fratelli's NYC style pizza, and the local food coop and Natural Grocers. It is only a few blocks down from NAU and the Milton St. stores and shops. The single rooms still have the old wooden floors, heaters, old beds, wooden desks, good wifi Internet, and showers that take a few minutes to heat up. i just loved the ambience, and one could use their kitchen. Their breakfasts are simple coffee or tea, apples and oranges and some GMO laced, cheap oatmeal packets and industrially produced danishes. Clientele can get a good old cup of Joe at any time of the day. I even liked the fact that it was right on Eden St. and just down the block from the railroad tracks. The place had that old time, western vibe. I always slept well here and knew the staff well. I even remember this place when the DuBeau had two kitchens, and Mitch was always talking with the clientele about great things to do in the area. The young hostel workers were there for years, like Johnny and Lydia. They were always great to talk to and catch up with. They are not working there anymore either. The staff is different now. Gone are the people who had worked there for many years. You won't see them around anymore. You will see 'hostel workers' who are over 40 years old. This is a bad sign because they receive a minimal pay, while they can stay there for free over the kitchen. How does a person over 40 still work in low paying, low level backpacker-hostel work? The English woman, who is quite pleasant though, and who often works the desk, likes to inquire whether the person asking about the now 'gender mixed dorm room' over the phone, is a real 'young' traveler, or not. The older man who now works the desk is not the friendliest of people however. Stay away from the now mixed gender dorm room. We are in the Amerikan Empire and there is no social safety net here, unlike northern Europe and in Australia/New Zealand. Older men who are poor, now have to move around the States in order to survive. They stop in hostel dorms across the USA, because the rates are a lot cheaper than regular motel rooms. Unfortunately, American hostel dorm rooms are regular flop houses. There is always one older man who snores terribly during the whole night. You will not get any sleep and you have been warned. What about the regular rooms? Do not get the special rooms because the only differences between them and the economies, are that there are TVs in those rooms. The economy rooms however, are not economy rooms anymore. They are now close to a 100$ per night! Yes, those same old wooden floor, old heater, old AC, small-tiny rooms, (around 150 square feet), go for more money than a lot nicer motels in the area. The owners have jacked up their pricing, and yet have done no refurbishments in the rooms. Also, the cleaners of the rooms are local young people who are also hostel workers, so they are not room cleaners. Due to not receiving any decent wages, they do the bare minimum. I have encountered bathrooms with long hairs along the showers or along the walls. Also, you the customer must take off the sheets of the bed, grab your used towels, and throw them into the bins by the kitchen. All this for around a 100$ per night. Why did the owners jack up the prices, while still using super cheap hostel worker labor and doing no room refurbishments? The answer is because they recently opened a new restaurant at the Motel DuBeau. They need to recuperate some profits fast due to all of the construction work paid out in the beginning. We, the customer marks, are the bait, who must pay for their profit making. The owners were always rough though. During the old days, (some years ago), one day, I was walking around the parking lot, and then all of a sudden, the woman of the owner couple, roughly inquired who I was and what I was doing. I replied back in a rough way - since I was a regular customer there, and then one of the staff intervened to let the owner know that I was a regular. The owner apologized - but no owner of any service business should act in a such a way to anyone. The vice of avarice will do such things. This is why I cannot stay here anymore in good conscience. The owners want profits, more money, and lots of financial returns - while still using the old methods of hostel cheap labor. This is not honorable. read more

I LOVE this place. I have stayed 2 different nights in their hostel bunks while adventuring through AZ, both times I called ahead by about an hour and I was lucky to snag a bed. As a traveler, this was a perfect place to crash, get a nice bed and a quiet night. The service is super friendly, they have a lite complimentary breakfast available, laundry facilities, hot showers and those beds are so comfy! Not to mention, for 29 bucks, you can't beat the location. It is right next to anything and everything downtown. Even better, the little bar on property is full of ambiance and the staff are excellent. I really enjoyed chatting with the bartenders. If you like paying $80 for a $50 room this place is for you. Seriously, extremely small room with no TV, no AC and a really loud high school punk rock band playing across the street. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind live music but it's a little much at 10pm on a Sunday night when I'm trying to get up early to hit the road. Anyway, I have stayed here a few times over the years and it seems like the price has gone up considerably but the amenities have only gotten marginally better. Location is great, there is no doubt about that. But this place is a little overpriced. The staff is nice and the rooms are clean so an extra couple of stars for that. read more

The staff was nice enough, but not nice enough to warrant staying here again. It was tiny, the bed made so much noise that it woke me up in the middle of the night. No air conditioning. A table-side light that would've been nice if there were an outlet around to plug it in to... but no. Drunk Norwegian guys yelling at my fiance to come to the strip club with them... uhh I think not. We liked it. The train runs close by, but I can sleep through almost anything. If you're a light sleeper you might want to bring your ear plugs. The staff is stellar, and the ambiance is funky. Great common room and two kitchens for your use. Price was a little on the high side ($60) for having the train so close. There's a free breakfast and coffee, and 'fridge for your own food if you want to cook (typical hostel style), Higher Grounds Coffee House right across the street is better than the free coffee at the hostel, but the hostel coffee ain't terrible (I'm a self-confessed coffee snob). This classic route 66 motel is our favorite Flagstaff place. It's walking distance to all the downtown attractions, shopping, and dining. Rooms are always clean and comfortable (and affordable!) and world travelers hang out in the lobby/breakfast room. Staff always help with local activity advice and booking. A nice place to stay in Flagstaff on a budget - the rooms are fine, and the common areas are a good place to hang out. There are two giant kitchens and a room with a pool table and foosball table. In the off season, all the offices and administration happens at the Grand Canyon, two blocks away, so the Du Beau feels a little less social, but we still met a bunch of nice people over some beers in the common area. One complaint is the breakfast: oatmeal packets and fruit are fine, but the coffee is pretty foul. Go to the coffee shop across the street, it's way better. All that said, though, I'd totally recommend it for your basic cheap place to stay! Does just what it needs to do (except the coffee!). read more
