The chicken was plentiful, fresh, and so delicious! There is a good amount of salt so if you're watching your salt this probably isn't best for you. The sides were a little disappointing because of how small they are. We had fries and collard greens. Taste was good but amount wasn't proportionate to the amount of chicken. Yum!!! A new spot not to be missed! I have the 3 piece tenders with the seasoned fries. The crinkle cut fries were seasoned perfectly and nice and crispy. The tenders were huge! It came with a piece of garlic toast but I gave it to one of my friends cause I was so full. I ordered the Cole slaw which I wasn't a huge fan of. It was too dry in my opinion. Tried Mother's Best for the first time and went with the 2-piece dark fried chicken and collard greens. First off--the chicken? Legit. Crispy, well-seasoned, and juicy all the way through. Before I even got my food, I was disappointed with this business. I had placed a takeout order and noticed that there was a "delivery fee" of $0.75 on my receipt. After speaking with the cashier, I learned that they charge 15% for dining in and 5% for takeout. There is a sign states this with the reason being to help the employees "earn a livable wage". I lost all enthusiasm for eating here because of this charge for simply eating or taking the food out of the restaurant. The chicken was very good. I did not finish The red beans and rice. I've been craving fried chicken lately. I'll compare these offerings to the last place I had fried chicken, Hattie b's. I ordered an 8 piece chicken, collard coleslaw and fries, pickled jalapeños and a soda. The chicken was crispy and juicy but not very flavorful. There are about 4 hot sauces and two in house sauces they offer. They didn't help. The pieces of chicken were really large in size .When that happens I feel like the flavor never makes it all the way through to the bone. The collard coleslaw would be better on a sandwich. Eating it by itself was a mouth full of mayo and mushy greens. But the fries were a hit. I would recommend those along with tenders. All of the utensils are sporks so prepare to struggle if you're trying to make less mess by forking the meat off of the bone. This place is small, coming with a large group isn't recommended. Parking was easy enough on a Sunday. But with a party of only 2 we needed a strategy to sit at a table. The staff is helpful enough even when you are indecisive. Which was nice. On a cold January night, we made a plan to visit Mother's Best. We'd seen the Instagram posts so we were very excited and hungry to try it. Both of us haven't had fried chicken in ages because it's just no longer part of our eating plan. But a treat doesn't hurt! Going in I knew this would be purely a chicken adventure because the sides on the menu didn't seem appealing. They're mostly starches (mashed potatoes, fries, red beans & rice) and a collard greens cole slaw. The location is pretty small fitting about 8 tables. It's packed pretty tight so think very cozy, no privacy. It was busy and there's a bar counter facing the kitchen where orders are taken. Most orders are to-go so don't let that deter you. I loved the nostalgia of the restaurant - the wall art, gaming consoles, music and graphics of the signage. The food - the chicken is served hot and fresh. We loved the crispy skin, Texas toast and the sauce that comes in the bucket. They don't remove the fat but it was a mix of dark & white meat cooked to perfection. We (2 people) ate 6 of the 8 pieces! It's very tasty and nothing like any chicken place we've been to. The fries were delicious but we weren't fans of the red beans with a sprinkle of rice. Overall, I'd order the chicken again. It's perfect to go with a meal you have prepared with sides you prefer. These are amazing for a picnic or to bring to gathering with friends. I ordered the 3 piece Chicken Tenders with their Velvet Potatoes. Those tenders were pretty HUGE, and they were perfectly seasoned. They were fried nice and crispy, but not oily at all. The ONLY thing that I give a demerit for is that they didn't include enough Mom's sauce - that sweet and savory sauce is ADDICTING, and I think a bowl wouldn't have been enough to satisfy me. The 'Velvet' potatoes definitely lived up to their name - smooth and whipped to a nice thick consistency with no lumps. The gravy was quite savory and had a little bit sweetness that was unexpected but appreciated. The included piece of flat-iron Texas toast was appreciated - it was buttery and yummy. The hostess was very bubbly, friendly, professional, and courteous, and my food was ready, hot and fresh, maybe 5 minutes after I placed my order. It's small on the inside with about 6/7 tables and 4 bar stools. If you follow my reviews then you know, btw I sat at the bar. Asked a few questions before ordering and it was suggested that I grab the 4pc with the red beans and rice. The chicken was hot, fresh, and really good. It came with a wing, drum, breast, and thigh that were all well seasoned. From what I understand they brine the chicken overnight (maybe longer). First time popping by and I'll be back! I heard they had a frozen Irish coffee in Decatur and I had to find it! Around the corner from the Main Street. The decor inside and around the whole place is very warm and fun, signed photos and vintage items line all of the walls. Service was quick and food was hot! I decided to finally get some food from here. Before they opened I got a message from Decaturish about them coming to the neighborhood. I used to drive by to see if they were open yet. The website had a schedule date for opening that didn't happen..I saw that they had or have a 4 PC fried chicken on the menu. It's unavailable on Uber Eats idk why. Tried this spot for the first time and I was hoping to have an amazing food experience. The service was the only thing that I am able to say was actually amazing. The staff was attentive, even with us only ordering food to go. I never saw any staff without a smile and that's a great way to get people into the small, tight-spaced restaurant. The chicken was just chicken. Seemed as if the seasoning was missing from the flour but it wasn't anything special or what it's been hyped up to be. Came by Mother's best for dinner with friends. Parking in the area can be challenging but there are a few paid lots nearby. Seating inside is fairly scarce so if you have a group of 4 there are only 4 tables that can accommodate you so beware! We ordered a 12 piece bucket with mashed potatoes, collard green coleslaw, and fries with sweet teas all around. The sweet tea tasted like sweet water that came out of a jug. Def a no. The chicken tasted pretty okay, but definitely got soggy. Def could have done with a bit of draining post fry for a bit before throwing it into a bucket. My friends made the comment the chicken seemed like it was fried in old oil. Mashed potatoes tasted very much like boxed mashed potatoes and the gravy was weird. One of the most fun new spots in Atlanta, Mother's Best offers high-end fast food served in a seriously funky atmosphere. We stopped in on a whim on a recent Sunday afternoon, and were immediately dazzled by this tiny spot's decor, completely decked out in 80's trashy glam, complete with wood paneled walls with (what appears to be) falsified celebrity and athlete autographs from years past and a gold-plated toilet. We were excited to try this fried chicken in our neighborhood. We visited on a Saturday night and it was empty. There is a handwritten sign on the counter where you order that says "15% dine in tax 5% for takeout for employees to make a living wage". There was NO service. So essentially, you pay $5 extra for no reason (you clear your own table, box your own leftovers with boxes left at the trash can, fill your own water...). My tenders were cold, my partner's four pieces were hot but came with mashed potatoes and gravy that tasted like vinegar. Essentially, this is an extremely overpriced counter service restaurant. While I thought maybe it was just me, multiple people ran into that confusion based off the price and lack of clarification from the menu and cashier. I paid $18 for a lunch special of 2 tenders, fries, toast, and a can drink. I did get an extra tender, but none of the food was edible. It was all cold. The chicken was hard and the fries tasted fishy somehow. Wouldn't recommend unfortunately. They also add a cost of living percentage on top of all orders, which is fair, but the server seemed upset when I didn't tip much on my to go order. Why is the extra percentage for staff not the tip? Ambiance: I visited Mothers Best on Sunday, January 19th, 2025 after hearing so much about it on social media. It's where one of my favorite Latin restaurants use to be before replacing so I knew we were starting off on the right foot. The location is in Decatur square, right next to the train station. It is small but it's nicely decorated with their style decor and quaint. It can't sit many ppl inside, but they have additional seating outside. Service: The line was long as to be expected, I waited about 20 minutes before getting to the counter. Before I made it to the front to order, customer ahead of me let me know that Mother's communicated they were out of bone-in chicken. Once I made it to the register I asked the cashier what pieces they had, then asked if I could do the four piece (usually half a bird) but get all wings. She turned to ask the gentleman standing in the kitchen and when she returned she told me yes. I placed my order then waited outside (yes, it was cold but hey they cont control that!) for my order. I was truly anticipating it and was immediately disappointed. I opened the chicken box and there were 2 wings and 2 drum sticks -- I don't like drum sticks which is why I asked prior to ordering if I could get 4 wings. But to had driven and waited so I didn't let that get the bet of me. And this chicken is not cheap!! Food: The chicken itself was sub-par. From taste and just what I saw, they cooks lots of the chicken ahead and sit it under hot lamps. My chicken was not hot or warm, it was room temperature. The crispy outside was falling off due to condensation from sitting so long. The taste (seasoning) was good but I couldn't enjoy the chicken. I also order the mashed potatoes and the red beans and rice--- not sure what the rice dish was. I won't even review that, just don't order it. The mashed potatoes were good but were cold as well. The chicken was tasty, but nothing spectacular. The red beans and cole slaw both tasted like a vinegar-based bbq sauce (minus the sauce) is a secret ingredient.
