Their motorcycle guide are not train or meet any qualifications. i received an email from Peter asking me to join a Baja tour but I had just received a new hip and thought I could ride but doctor cancelled my ride. I called Peter and explained my issue but he never responded. They cancelled my reservation but never refunded my $5000. Do yourself a favor and choose a reputable firm. read more

I have rented BMW motorcycles from MotoQuest three times now, going back a few years. I'm a daily motorcycle commuter to the office, but when I take a vacation ride, it's fun to try a different bike to get some variety. While I haven't taken one of MotoQuest's organized tours, I have taken advantage of their Transport Specials to move bikes between their West Coast locations. Each time I have worked with MotoQuest, their staff has been top notch. Very attentive to what my needs will be on the ride, offering luggage options to carry all of my gear, answering any questions I have about the bikes, and on one occasion when it was needed, they even stored my motorcycle at their Long Beach location while I was renting their bike. I recently returned from a ride from Long Beach to Portland. As with all of my experiences, when I arrived, the bike was cleaned, fueled, and ready to go. In fact, this bike, an F750GS, was brand new. As expected for a new machine, it performed flawlessly, and I had a fantastic time, enjoying the Highway 1 ride, along the coast, over the Golden Gate Bridge, and up into the Redwood Forest, before exploring the towns and beaches along the Oregon coast. Along my ride, I got a call from MotoQuest's Portland location to make sure that I was enjoying the ride, and when I arrived, I was greeted with a cold water, and a place to change into my street clothes for the flight home. The staff at MotoQuest was professional and friendly from the moment I called. I rented a 1250GS. When I arrived to pick it up, the bike was clean and detailed; looked brand new. It was set aside with my name on it and ready to go. A thorough walk through of all the bike's functions was done, as well as, the roadside assistance plan explained. There was no delay in getting processed and out on the road. Brad at MotoQuest helped me out. He offered awesome riding suggestions through the Central Coast of California, and it was a pleasure to talk shop with him about bikes. This place is top notch. I wish I could give 50 stars. I have to preface this review by saying that I have been bery fortunate in my life and have done and seen some of the most amazing things in the world - visited the Pyramids and the Taj Mahal, gone diving in some of the best places on earth, etc. I went on the Japan Fall Colors Tour with MotoQuest and this trip was without question, one of the greatest experiences of my life. From the very moment I started to consider the trip, Brenden and Phil at MotoQuest were amazing. They answered every question I had and made themselves available practically around the clock. Phil was in Japan and still found time to call me and talk to me about the trip. Once I decided to book the trip, the incredible support/service continued. I have never done anything like this before and so Brenden basically "held my hand" through just about every phase of prep for the trip. I joked that he had to be tired of babysitting me but he assured me that he was not. As for the actual tour, I have described it to friends as the Relais and Chateaux of motorcycle tours! Now to clarify, the hotels and accomodations were not "five start resorts", however, if you are looking for an amazing, traditional Japanese hotel/ryokan experience, with an onsen at each stop, then this is it. And the food was INCREDIBLE at every place we stayed. These were such fabulous places far off the beaten path - I can't say enough good things. (I have friends that are considering trips to Japan and I am giving them the names of the places we stayed so that they can visit and stay there as well.) Then there was our team on the ground in Japan. Eric was our leader on the bikes and is one of the most interesting people I have ever had the pleasure of getting to know. He is fluent in Japanese language and culture and is an insanely good rider. I felt completely safe every second of the ride knowing that he was our lead. Chie was our leader for "everything"! :) She and her family own the motorcycle rental company and she drove the "chase van" with our luggage. But much more than that, Chie made sure our every need was met and that everything at every stop (and along the way) was perfect. If there was the most minor of issues, Chie was all over it and you could count on it being resolved quickly and satisfactorily. She is just a warm, wonderful person and was so much fun to be around (and she is not a bad karaoke singer!) Eric and Chie fostered a collegial, friendly, practically family-like atmosphere with our group. Every stop turned into a ritual "snack time". We took group selfies at every stop. Dinners together every night were a blast. We went out one night as a group and did a little karaoke! It could not have been better. I have already gone for a ride back here in CA with two of my new Japan riding friends. In fact, the whole group has stayed in touch on the WhatsApp chat and a lot of us are making plans to get together and ride here in CA in the Spring. We are also talking about booking another MotoQuest trip together! I could go on and on and on but I think you probably get the idea. If you are even thinking about a motorcycle tour, MotoQuest is the way to go and their Japan tour is an absolute MUST. IT IS THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME. read more

I am giving a two star review. My brother passed away a couple of years ago and so his daughter and an old friend (my brothers partner in crime) and I have been continuing the bike trip tradition. Motoquest has a lot of documents that you sign, once you are already there and have made your travel plans. As mentioned in another review, they have rims that dent easily. The damage waiver they sell you, is NOT insurance, it simply limits what you are going to pay out of pocket. It is a crock. A damaged rim, the most likely damage, is $1,580, after they put in their $125 Admin fee (telling you they are charging you $1,500, pulling the stocked rim out of their inventory (because they know they go through them (read the other reviews))). So buyer beware. When you rent, the price which for 8 days was around $1,755, actually ended up being $3,255. I road the roads they do on their tour, did nothing fancy, avoided every hole I could and still probably a 1 in 3 someone bends a rim and then gets bent over. Their actual cost is much lower, but when I asked for invoices for their cost, I was told "We have provided you with more information that we normally would". Other than that, the guys were great. When you get your bike, they ask you to check it out and they write down anything you spot. When you bring it back, they have 3 people go over the bike, put it up on the center stand and each guy says "we still have to have the mechanic sign off" - so buyer be ware. The other waivers included things like "go on the Denton Hwy, your deposit is voided and an additional fee applies" it is all in writing, but you have to read the fine print and believe it. read more

Not worth the cost! Don't sign up! MotoQuest charges for an off road experience, then provides a bike with cast wheels known to suffer from bent rims. Seven riders renting GS750, six bikes (including tour guide) with bent rims, resulting in $1500+ additional charge to the riders. Tour includes tour guide driving extremely fast, resulting in losing the group if you choose to slow down and enjoy the scenery and also in missing the few gas stops resulting in stopping strangers along the way to buy gas on the side of the road. If bikes have a problem, they will swap your bike out, but if the one on the trailer has a broken windscreen you will be charged for that as well, even if it was broken before you ever sat on the bike! Your experience includes a tour guide, but you are told to ride at your own pace to avoid bent rims. Why pay for a tour guide then! read more

I spent several months working with the Motoquest main office to setup my rental, a BMW GS800F, for a self-guided trip around Alaska with a buddy of mine. He was riding his Harley from NYC. So, the timing had to be just right so that I could be at the same place, on the same day so that we could head on down the road without either of us playing catch up. The customer service I received was above and beyond anything I could have hoped for. Truly top shelf! They answered all my questions and were very thoughtful in recommendations for things I may not have even knew to ask about. When the trip time came, I flew into Anchorage. Once there I called the Anchorage location to let them know I was in town. They suggested I go ahead and come over so we could do paperwork. I ended up sitting there for close to an hour shooting the $&*@ with everyone. They were all very knowledgeable riders, and a lot were experienced in exactly the type of trip I was going to do. I ran over 1,400 miles on the rental, and I never had a worry about the bike. I did everything from lower speeds for miles of gravel down the Dalton Highway to "the posted speed limit" on the main highways around the state. The bike never had a hiccup...never a sputter. It ran like a scalded dog the entire time and had power to spare. Obviously, not a torque heavy as the v-twins I'm used to, but plenty of get up an go for when you're pulling out and a truck is barreling toward you doing 65. I will never hesitate to rent from this company if I'm ever in need of a rental bike. Everything about my experience with them was amazing, and 5 stars isn't enough. Yelp needs to give a "turn it up to 11" option. read more

My brother and I have been renting from Phil Freeman and MotoQuest since 2002. My first rental was in July of 2002 when Phil was based in Girdwood, Alaska. I rented a Suzuki "thumper" and my brother rode his bike. We rode from Anchorage to Denali and back. My next rental was in August 2005 from Phil (as Alaska Rider) in Anchorage. Again, my brother rode his bike and I rented a V-Strom 650. We rode from Anchorage to Dawson City, Yukon, Canada and back. In August 2008, my brother again rode his bike and I rented a V-Strom from Phil and Alaska Rider. On this trip we rode from Anchorage to Whittier, took the ferry to Valdez and then rode into Denali and back to Anchorage. Most recently (October 2016), we rented from MotoQuest in Long Beach, CA. My brother rented a BMW F800GS, and I rented a Suzuki V­-Strom 650. On this trip, we toured south-east California. Each experience with MotoQuest has been positive. The bikes have always run well, and all employees has always been polite and helpful. Obviously, the company has expanded over the years, but it has never lost that personal touch. I would highly recommend MotoQuest for all your motorcycle rental and or touring needs! read more

Recently rented a group of GS1200s for a 1 way trip from LA to SF and overall had a great experience. We had a knowledgable and helpful person (Kelly) available to help us throughout the reservation process, and they were very flexible and willing to work with us throughout the process. Bikes, accessories, and service were great, and overall had a great time. A couple warnings - there was a bit of a limited selection available for a one-way rental, but still much better than alternatives, and there was no one-way surcharge like some others charge. Logistically, the MQ locations in both LA/Long Beach and SF are a bit away from city centers and airports, so plan accordingly. All in all, highly recommended. read more

I rented a Suzuki V­Strom 650 in San Francisco and drove it one-way to Long Beach along the Pacific Coast Highway. After starting off a little rough when I showed up at their old location instead of their newer one, I was geared up and off. The bike itself was beautiful and in great condition. They were also kind enough to lend us riding jackets and helmets for the trip. The coast was beautiful and we didn't run into any poor weather along the way. We reached their location in Long Beach without any issues. I hope to rent from them again either in Alaska or another one of their locations. It's really hard to beat the option to rent in one location and drop off in another. Thanks guys -- see you next time! read more

I phoned and rented a BMW in Los Angeles on Thusday Fedruary 8 for that Saturday/Sunday. The next day, the weather forcast showed rain all weekend. I called back and cancelled the rental. They said no problem. After checking my Visa bill for next month, I realized the deducted $325.65 from my account, and never credited it back. When I called Motoquest back, the gentleman (Tony) I talked to said that they do not refund money back less than 30 days before the rental. I explained to him that I booked the rental a day before, and he didn't seem interested in helping me out. I asked if I could discuss this issue with another person, and he referred me to their "info" email. I asked if there was someone specific I could talk to. He said he isn't authorized to refer me to anyone, or able to offer any resolution. What a SCAM of a company. I will never do buisness with these guys again, and I do not recommended anyone else do either. Scott FOLLOW UP - After reading my reviews, Motoquest did reach out to me and inquired about the bad review. I asked for my money back. They said they weren't' willing to do that, as processing my reservation and getting the bike ready costs money, but they did offer a store credit if I retracted my bad review. Kelly in LB was very friendly and accommodating and even gave me an accidental discount deal ;) for my 2 day rental. They even gave me route suggestions and restaurant stops to hit on the way up. They were very flexible on the scheduling of my arrival time and provided me all the bags and straps I needed as well as a helmet. Their drop off fee was very reasonable as well. I rented a BWM R1200RT from MotoQuest to use for the weekend. I can't say enough about these guys! The price was very reasonable. They opened at 9am, they had the bike ready to go, clean, gassed up, and they were very helpful walking me through the options (this bike has a lot of technology loaded on it). They have an area to park you car that is safe. When I returned the bike today, the staff was friendly and attentive. They even shook my hand and said "thank you". I'm a British/Australian citizen and came to live in California. Unfortunately for me, even though I have been riding for years all over the World, the law over here is that if you want a Californian driving licence, you have to take your driving tests again! Bike and car! I needed a bike to rent for 2 days so I could take my test so approached these guys. They looked after me like I was their best and only customer from the moment I called them. Their bikes are all very well maintained and they have loads of choice. Established bike shop installs engine wrongly, and leaves rider to pay for their mistake On 2 Aug 2017, I bought a bike from Motoquest Anchorage, which is a reputable bike shop with 4 shops around the US. I left Anchorage on 5 Aug, and had a engine breakdown in Canada, Watson Lake on 12 Aug -  after 7 days, 1800miles. I was on tow over 1.5days to the nearest Kawasaki dealership in Fort St. Johns. The kawasaki mechanic who repaired my bike has more than 10 years of experience. When he opened up my engine, he said that it was a simple mistake of the mechanics at Motoquest; The cam caps were installed in the wrong direction, and a possibility of the nuts not torque-tightened. (Either way, the cam caps in the wrong direction suffices to cause the engine failure). This let to the loosening of the cam cap, and the shaft destroyed the engine. I told the Kawasaki mechanic that Motoquest mechanics had replaced the gaskets and timing chain on 1 Aug, a day before I bought the bike.  I emailed Motoquest detailing the full details of what had happened, to seek for help. After 8 full days on 22 Aug, I received a reply from one of the partners of the Motoquest, Kevin. He simply forwarded a reply to 'all', 'All, Please note that we did check all surplus parts in our Long Beach CA. shop as well as Anchorage to no avail. Sorry Mr Seng is in the situation he is, however this is no other assistance we can render at this time. Regards, Kevin Hagerty MotoQuest' I am absolutely disgusted and disappointed with such a reply from an established business like Motoquest. Moreover, on the first day at the Kawasaki dealership, I personally called Kevin to request for his help. His first sentence to me was 'you know i really do not have to help you'. His second sentence was 'I am very busy and I do not have time'. After some talking, he said he will look for the parts I'm looking for and update me the following day. This promised update NEVER came. No call. No email. No apology. These factors reflect the extremely unprofessional and unapologetic business ethics Motoquest has to a rider like myself who took the time to call/ email/ explain everything to the shop who sold the bike to him. More frustratingly, Kevin exhibited behaviours that are do not do justice to what the brand name represents. My bill was $1200CAD, less the inconvenience of 5 days of accommodation costs while I had to wait for my bike to get repaired/ and zero replies from Motoquest during the first 3 days of desperate seeking for assistance and parts. I even tried contacting the other partner, Phil, who refused to assist and leave the matter entirely to Kevin. I have the official purchase receipt, pictures and dates of my mileage, and emails from Motoquest. Kevin and management team, you are an absolute disgrace and disappointment.  Regards read more

After planning an international motorcycle trip for a year, my riding group, last minute switched to a domestic Pacific Coast Highway tour. Within a month of our planned vacation time MotoQuest staff did us the favor of arranging the motorcycles we wanted to accomplish this trip on very short notice. After flying in to Portland we caught an uber to MotoQuest (conveniently located near the airport) and they had the bikes outside ready to ride. MotoQuest staff provided us with the chain lubricant necessary to keep the bikes riding smoothly, gave us a full briefing on the intricacies of each model, and sent us on our way- 15 minute process!! The bikes were well maintained powerful and very fun to ride. I personally got the Honda Africa Twin and loved it! Turning the bike in was just as easy of a process. I would recommend MotoQuest to anyone wanting the convenience of one-way rental anywhere along the west coast. read more

Had a great tour of Alaska with MotoQuest's Kevin and the Orange County Dualies in August. Had a great m/c, the Suzuki Vstrum 650 from MotoQuest. Saw a lot of stupendous scenery, including the Kennicutt copper mine. I highly recommend the lodgings, the Gakona Lodge and the Clearwater Mountain Lodge. Our stay was just too short! Going back this year with the wife on a driving tour. read more

I thought this place was cool until I tried calling during business hours on a Friday to see if I could get a bike for the weekend. No answer so I left a message. No call back so I showed up on Saturday morning. Walked in and was told with a smile they have bikes but everyone went riding for the weekend and no one was there to check out the bike for me. Last time I checked if a business is open on a Saturday and has what your looking for someone should be there that can handle it. After I left I got a message from them saying that I should make a reservation at least 30 days in advance to avoid disappointment. Man I really felt stupid for going to a rental shop and being turned down so harshly. Sounds like this business needs some ethics if they're going to be a Motorcycle RENTAL shop. read more
