We had a wonderful dining experience at Oyster Creek Restaurant! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We chose to sit outside on the enclosed porch, which had the perfect Jersey Shore vibe--relaxed, comfortable, and charming. Our server, Anastasia, was outstanding. She was friendly, attentive, and genuinely hospitable, helping make our evening even more enjoyable. The food was absolutely fantastic and incredibly fresh. We shared several appetizers, including the fried oysters, scallops with onions and blue cheese, clams on the half shell (perfectly shucked and absolutely delicious), and mussels in a flavorful garlic sauce. Every dish was fresh, expertly prepared, and full of flavor. By 4:30, the restaurant was bustling with guests, filling both the indoor dining room and patio areas--a true testament to its popularity. Despite being busy, the service remained excellent. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. We also had the pleasure of briefly meeting the owner/manager. He was incredibly personable, and it was clear how much pride and passion he has for his restaurant. That dedication shows in every aspect of the dining experience. One of the places on our list to try. Old school south jersey seafood restaurant on a deserted no outlet road in the back bay. Also accessible by boat! I opened with the snapper soup. It was slightly disappointing, watery and filled with peppercorns. Not totally horrible but not what I was expecting. Bread is provided on request and our waitress brought 2 brioche style sweet rolls to the table. A plentiful dish of butter was provided. The rolls were delicious and refilled. My entire were the crab cakes I chose French fries and cole slaw. The crab cakes were tasty but in the crab imperial style. I prefer the breaded crab cakes. Nevertheless tasty. The Cole slaw was very good, the fries though were coated and although I dislike this style I liked these. My wife had the broiled scallops with mashed potato and string beans. She raved about her meal. For dessert we split a slice of the chocolate chip cheesecake which was unbelievably good. Our waitress was wonderful and very attentive. Always a favorite to bring out of town guests for just a slightly different dining experience. I've brought people from California, northern Nevada, upstate NY and now, from Ireland. As always, the fried calamari did not disappoint. Love, love, love. The fresh mussels are always top notch with tasty broth and that mix of chunky tomatoes and slightly spicy but flavorful chorizo is a favorite with our table. And on a cold day, the crab bisque was exactly what I was craving. The Irishman just wanted a grilled salmon, and though it wasn't on the weekend lunch menu, the kitchen obliged and he enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the server accidentally spilled soup on the Irishman's brand new $400 Barbour coat. Yikes. No worries, we cleaned it up and told the guy not to worry about it. The server still felt bad about it and comped us our coffees and a dessert we split between three. read more

I was here many years ago and was not impressed so did not return until recently. In the interim, it was visited by Guy Fieri and the DDD crew and our dining partners like the mussels here so we tried it again. The food generally was just ok. The clams casino and class Mexicali were passable but not particularly flavorful. The octopus in the octopus salad was rubbery rather than tender. The oyster po' boy was the anomaly and was delicious, full of oysters and a nice remoulade. The staff was either dense in the head or rude trying to seat a disabled person in a power chair in an already crammed corner of a full dining room rather than in the very empty adjacent room. The place needs a thorough cleaning (floors super sticky) and the rest rooms are not accessible although there is a hidden one somewhere on site as was discovered but it was found to be without any heat on this 40F day. Recently dined here on a weekday for a birthday dinner. Family of 5 dining with some picky eater teens who enjoyed their dining experience and meals. Something on the menu for all of us with our teens wanting to return to try other things! Food was delicious with large portion sizes. Interesting place to eat in. The hostess looks like you owe her a million. Food is odd and different. They also have sushi. Dishes are salty. Octopus tastes rubbery. I do like the Irish coffee and the key-lime pie, although Irish coffee doesn't look as good. Doubt we would come back again. read more

I took my husband here for Father's Day, I was really hoping to have an excellent meal. I have to say, our server Mary was amazing. However, the food was not. He ordered the fried appetizer combo, it was very overcooked. She did take it off the check because he barely ate it. The clams casino and the sushi bombs were ok. The mixed grille was fine but the garlic mashed potatoes were ice cold. My scallops were good, but the baked potato was not warm. The highlight of the meal was the key lime pie. For $140, I would have liked him to enjoy his meal a little better. read more

Quick and easy service. Was seated promptly on a Saturday night. My server was Taylor, she was very helpful on assisting me navigate the extensive menu. Besides their regular menu, they have a daily specials menu. Lots of sushi and steak food dish options but also some steaks, salads and burgers on the menus. I had the seared sea scallops that were amazing and a really good and hearty spicy yellowfin tuna dish. The crème brûlée was very good as well. The entrees are not served until 1:00. Waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. Had the pop pop steamed class. A little too seasoned for my taste. Will go with traditional steamers with butter next time. Husband had the mussels app. I had the GF crab cakes with corn and wild rice. Husband had the soft shell crab sandwich. I am overdue for an update and seeing Guy Fieri's smiling face on the Triple D poster celebrating his visit to this iconic back bay treasure was the reminder to update my review. Let's start by stating things are sparkling clean and in order! The young man up front did his job bringing us to our table but our waitress just could not stop smiling (Perhaps she sensed I was updating my pre-Covid review.). Our pre-sunset view is awesome ... something special about eating on the water. The menu keeps you debating and there is even a "heart healthy" section. There's a clam bonus with the steamed Littlenecks.... you get a "baker's dozen" not ten nor twelve. We actually were given 14 (Did they know I was updating my review?) sweet and delicious freshly chosen from New Jersey's back bays! Every single item that we chose was superb! Absolutely the very worst dining experience we have had in 32 years together. Service was hugely disappointing and slovenly, but the food was breathtakingly bad. Salmon Croquettes were burned to a cinder to the point where when prized open I saw a tiny amount of salmon that was not incinerated. The Barramundi was caked in an armored cloak of totally over-herbed breadcrumbs which I had to also prize off to get to the fish which was grey, insipid and obviously NOT fresh. The green beans looked and tasted way over cooked and again certainly NOT fresh. The carrots were drenched in a honey glaze which had an overpowering taste of honey which I don't like and only ordered because our server assured me that the honey flavor was barely discernible. We were not offered bread or water and were told when we asked that they only bring bread and water to the table if requested (despite there being a bowl of about 15 butter pats on our table). The two bread rolls when they arrived were those awful wonder bread type rolls with no substance or taste. To add insult to injury, our meal for two with only one beer, one small cocktail, no desserts, no coffee came to $130.00. I noticed one reviewer somewhere (I read after our visit) saying they'd have been better off going to a Long John Silver, and this perfectly sums up our sense of horror at the overall quality of this place. I can't remember posting a bad review about a restaurant ever (the internet was in its infancy when I was last so appalled). I am quick to post complimentary reviews of places that excel, and generally put down to experience places that are not great, but this was truly beyond redemption bad. Figuratively and literally the end of the road as far as a dining experience is concerned. Step 1 - Require that your staff wear decent smart clothes. I don't want to see a badly dressed member of staff running around in daisy dukes with bar straps showing shouting her mouth off at the bar staff and the regulars at the bar. Step 2 - require your staff to be informed about the food and speak honestly about it when describing it. Step 3. IF you see that your customers have barely touched the food ASK WHY and LEARN so that you can relay honest opinions back to the manager and the food preparation staff. Step 4. NOTHING ON THE MENU IS CHEAP - DO NOT compound the issue by not offering water and bread even if your Wonder Bread rolls are insulting. Step 5. Take this review seriously - I have no axe to grind and have never been to Galloway or Leeds Point before. It's not personal, but this was such a terrible experience on every front, I can't for the life of me understand how it gets any return custom. read more

We had a great lunch here on Saturday. They have a lovely screened porch outdoor eating area that was very popular. Our group was in an indoors kinda of mood because it was so hot out so we sat at a table in the bar area which has great atmosphere. The mussels in the white sauce caught my eye and I'm so glad I got them. The chorizo is chopped up so it mixes into the broth which has a nice hint of heat and was delicious. The tomatoes and spinach were fresh as were the mussels. The bread and the toast were perfect for sopping up the sauce! I was in the mood for a crab cake and I asked the waitress which one do I want and she said the Parmesan one. We were right to trust her. The sauce was delicious and the crab cake was tasty and had plenty of crab in it. My bf had the clams casino and a burger both of which he thoroughly enjoyed. Would love to go again. read more

This restaurant is No. 6 on our way through the Nj.com's best 35 Old School Restaurants, so on our quest to countdown to No. 1, we took a long ride Saturday for lunch. It was worth the ride! I had the clams casino appetizer and the clams were fresh and it was tasty and delicious. I had a cheeseburger and it was cooked perfectly and was very juicy and tasty. The bun is perfect for the burger and the fresh potato chips on the side were very good. We really enjoyed this one, and I recommend it. read more

An absolute gem tucked down a long road that ends at the waterway offering the best seafood around. Due to my meetings, we had to arrive at 4pm versus 5:30pm. Uhhhhh, great timing because it was early bird time and Customer Appreciation time. The Appreciation menu is set at $32 and you get to choose so many options for appetizers and entrees. It's hard to believe that the combo platter and tuna dishes are included. Truly, thank you to the owners here. My order consisted of the mussels in wine sauce , tomatoes, onions and other goodies; the mixed grill combo with salmon, 2 huge shrimp, 2 big scallops and a nice portion of seared tuna with wild rice. I added their house salad for an extra $3. Absolutely worth it. Hubby ordered mussels with marinara sauce, spicy tuna with shrimp and the house salad. The food is absolutely prepared to perfection! Every piece of fish is perfectly cooked. Who else hates overcooked shrimp and fish?? And the simpleness of the green beans is nice as well. The wild rush seemed a little mushy to me but it could be that I'm not experienced in eating wild rice. Regardless, it tastes good. Our waiter was kind and patient. No issues with the service but we're we supposed to get bread? So, support this local business. It's amazing! Boats pull right up to the restaurant. Love this! Gravel parking lot with plenty of spaces. Working backwards, the mussels too are tender sitting in the brew of white wine, garlic, tomatoes, onions and bits of sausage. Delicious! Others at the table went off the menu with a cup of bisque and fried oysters with Cole slaw and french fries. It looked to have plenty of seasoned fries and not a lot of oysters. Not from the Galloway area, my wife and I had no clue where to have a good meal. The concierge at the place we were staying recommended Oyster Creek Inn enthusiastically. I made sure to stop by and thank her for making such an excellent choice. The restaurant reminded us of the seafood establishments we frequent on the Long Island shore. The menu was extensive and all of the choices we made were superb! We left the restaurant happily stuffed!!!! If we plan to visit the area again, we will make sure to eat at the Oyster Creek Inn again!!!! read more

Oyster Creek was overall a pleasant dining experience. The menu is vast, the seafood fresh and dishes flavorful. Prices and portions were right. I ordered Chef Scott's stuffed salmon which was delicious, as well as the sauteed crab and spinach and Jersey Devil Shrimp (the shrimp were massive). The gulf pasta was amazing and my fiance ate every bite. Service was overall attentive but our server failed to recognize water refills and napkins were needed. There was ample parking, but id reccomend getting there earlier for seating with premium views. read more

This area of Jersey is great. Lots of off the beaten path favorites between the Forsythe Preserve, Jonathan Pitney House, Black Cat Bar & Grill, Hang Time Bar & Grill and a few others. I was hoping to add a new one to our south Jersey rotation, but I think like Phil Collins, we missed again with Oyster Creek. What worked: Got there about 45 minutes prior to closing and were seated right away. Our server overall had zero personality, but he kept things moving along so I guess that's good enough. The steamed little necks and the crab bisque were insanely good. Some of the best clams and soup that we've had in a long time. What didn't work: Two issues with the scallop entree. The first is that it's wild to me that you're paying $24 for a grand total of 4 scallops. Look brother, you can go to somewhere like The Crab Trap and pay $5 more to get two times as many for a true entree, not 4 which is at best an app. The second is that they ran out of baked potatoes but chose to say nothing until the rest of the food already hit the table. For some reason I chose fries as the sub and while they brough them out fast, they were as stone cold as Steve Austin. I assume another end of the night shoulder shrug just like baked potato. The signature salmon entree was better with the exception of the asparagus being basically untouched/uncooked straight to the plate raw dog. We truly wanted to like Oyster Creek but the portion size on one entree is really lacking and being served not one but two cold sides show me a lack of caring where there was not enough quality control and more of a push it out at the end of the night so they can all go home mentality. We're down this way often enough and while I'm glad to have tried Oyster Creek once, it probably was enough as there was nothing here that special which would warrant a return any time soon. read more

Great summer place right on the River. Just mins from Smithville. Popular place for boaters too. They have an outside seating area which is a screened in porch with a bar and they have an indoor area with a bar as well. Outside area is a relaxed atmosphere with a live band. They also have river front benches if you want to sit completely outside and watch the boats and wildlife on the river. Sunset is beautiful here!! Great seafood place with plenty of options. I had a wonderful tasting late lunch at Oyster Creek Inn this afternoon. Beautiful location, good service. Good tasting food. I enjoyed my first Manhattan Chowder. Also ordered Parmesan-crusted crab cakes. They were also very good. But the shoe is going to drop. I continued my journey toward Cape May, stopping at a wildlife refuge on the way. Unfortunately, about four hours after my meal I had a sudden dizzy and upset stomach feeling. It was quite unique, but not totally unfamiliar --unfortunately. This exact feeling always indicates that I am going to have an unpleasant bout with food poisoning. And that is what transpired. I barely made it to my hotel, was only able to order 7-Up and a dry pretzel to get something in my stomach, and had to sleep with the lights on in my room because I was up about once in an hour, visiting the restroom. So why am I still giving it two stars? Because I really did enjoy the restaurant, the service was great, and the taste of the food was good. I suspect because I was at the end of the lunch service,, possibly the crabcakes might have been sitting out for a while. Oh well. I survived. read more

We are regular customers there and we went there recently and the hostess gave us a tiny table right near entryway and kitchen. When my husband told her the table was un acceptable she got very rude and loudly snapped " WELL THIS IS THE ONLY TABLE WE HAVE RIGHT NOW" There were at least 10 empty larger tables for four and up sitting empty at the time. Then we told man at hostess station we didnt like table and were totally ignored when we waited in bar area . This is unprofessional and unacceptable. We had recommended this restaurant to several of our friends in past. Sorry but I think you just lost a customer. read more

For the first time in 20 years we were not permitted to split the bill onto 2 cards. The owner was rude and belligerent about this, saying it slowed them down ( as if the service itself is not prompt - be prepared to wait even for bread) Customer input is not appreciated, rude management is a huge turn off. read more

Fun! We had the entire place rented out for a work event. Many of us were traveling from across the US, so it was great to have an event that felt very NJ! We had so many delicious oysters and bacon-wrapped scallops that I was full by the time my entree came out. Great date night out once again, one of our favorite local stops for fresh tasty seafood. Super big shout out to our beautiful waitress Anastasia! We did not have to ask for anything as she was on point in her serving skills. Quick, informative, friendly and skilled in her craft! Hubby enjoyed his usual, shrimp scampi, which never disappoints him! The Eastern Shore always makes me happy! It's never the same presentation but the flavor is always good. What a cute place on the water. We are in the screened room area. Not the main dining room. It's no frills and a little outdated but I think that adds to the charm. We tried a few things to share. The mussels and calamari appetizer specials. And the chorizo clams and oyster po boy sandwich. The mussels were in a white sauce with sautéed spinach, chopped tomatoes and chorizo. Absolutely delicious and so very different. The calamari were tender but I felt they could have been done a little more. The sauce was flavorful. The surprise for me was how much I liked the stuffed clams. The chorizo was cooked perfectly and the seasonings were perfect. I only tried a little piece of the oyster sandwich. Invited by an old friend, to dinner with his family. I grew up coming to the Inn so, I was excited to go. We arrived to a bustling dining room. Servers and patrons , all with smiles on their faces. I commented to my friend how this was like taking a step back in time. Then we were seated and our meal began. Our server was attentive and really sweet. We placed our orders and chatted while we waited for our appetizers to arrive. The table enjoyed some sushi rolls, while I enjoyed a cup of snapper soup. This is a childhood favorite for me. This soup did not disappoint. As entrees began to arrive, everything looked amazing. There was little conversation as we enjoyed our meals. Not a complaint at the table. My seared tuna was crusted and perfectly rare as requested. The scampi looked delish and the salmon as well. We had a lovely creme brûlée to complete our evening. I would definitely suggest this restaurant to anyone who visits the area. It is a beautiful representation of the area as well as our past. read more

My husband, Bryan, worked here from 1975 to 1980 with his father Victor (RIP 2017). We decided to take a trip down memory lane and visit Oyster Creek Inn on Sunday, September 22nd, when visiting family in NJ. The last time we were here was in 1996. The quaint, homey feel of the Rock & Rye Boat Bar has remained intact! The new bar in the Old Waiting Room appeared closed, however it looked like it's a wonderful addition to the restaurant. And Wow! What a selection of items on the new menu! The clams on the half shell were exactly as we remembered them. There was a Sushi station serving tasty dishes made from scratch in the main bar area. We had the blackened swordfish with pineapple roll. It was fabulous! As if the emotions of the flood of great memories with dad, Bill, Sonny, the old crew / customers, wonderful food and real drinks were not enough. The Bartender, Tyler, was off the charts outstanding. We own a restaurant in Illinois and truly appreciate great staff!! Tyler noticed us looking at all of the pictures and fixtures and intuitively engaged us in conversation. He was attentive to our stories of days gone by and truly interested about my husband's and Victor's time here as members of the Oyster Creek family. In short, he made us feel special. As if we were the most important people to him at that moment in time. We are not sure when we will get a chance to visit Oyster Creek Inn again. However, if we do, we will make sure that Tyler is working. We are confident the conversation would pick up right were we left it!! read more
