We have stayed with Kris and David (and their adorable little senior dog, Cork) four times over the last few years. We make it a point to stay at Mt Shasta Ranch when we drive to the Bay Area from Seattle. Each and every time we have been warmly welcomed with fresh homemade cookies, coffee and tea, as well as wine in the afternoon. They are kind, hardworking people living their dream of offering a top notch bed and breakfast in their lovely home. I especially enjoy sundown on the front veranda with blankets, our beverage of choice, a wonderful view of Mount Shasta and the beautiful countryside. The mansion, built in 1923, is well kept and spotless. There is a large dining room with a billiard table and many windows where one can read and watch finches and other birds at the bird feeders. There's also a cozy living room with a fireplace and a lovely wood fire when it is chilly outside. Each time they have offered our choice of rooms when available and been treated like family. The bedrooms, each one tastefully decorated with antiques, feature comfortable beds and thoughtfully curated amenities. There are two separate lodges for families behind the house itself. I also appreciated seeing a pair of horses in the pasture next door. Kris and David are always happy to recommend local restaurants, hikes and other activities. But most of all the this B&B is a quiet and peaceful respite. I know they also host various groups for retreats. We have especially enjoyed meeting other guests at the Mt Shasta Ranch as well. Lastly, a highlight of our stay is Kris's gourmet breakfasts, delicious and varied, served by David who is charming and accommodating. This place is an absolute gem. We highly recommend it.

Wow! What a time at Mt Shasta Ranch Bed and Breakfast. Kris and David showed so much hospitality during the couple of days I spent there with my family. Wonderful cooking, great recommendations on hikes, and overall an awesome time. Can't recommend them enough!

My husband and I went for a long weekend. What an amazing place. Kris also makes the best breakfast and large portions. Our room was great we stayed in the cottage house and is was so calm and comfortable. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Beautiful view of My. Shasta from the front porch.

On a recent trip to visit my family, my wife and I decided to try the Mt. Shasta Ranch. I grew up in the area and have always wanted to stay at the Bed and Breakfast. We have to say it was amazing. David and Kris treated us to a very memorable experience. From the time we booked the room till the time we left for home we felt very welcomed. We loved every minute of our time there. The rooms were very charming and super clean. Davids knowledge of the property and its history was very informative. Kris was super helpful from reserving the room to the wonderful breakfast we enjoyed each morning. When we head to visit our family again the Mt. Shasta Ranch will be our go to spot for a warm and welcome place to stay. David and Kris thank you both for your time and efforts in making our stay at your Bed and Breakfast a truly unforgettable time. Mike and Cheryl Harvey.

We spent another full week at Mt. Shasta Ranch. David and Kris welcomed us back and treated us like VIP's. Since our last visit, they have renovated the carriage house rooms and were in the middle of renovating the 2 bedroom cottage. Kris let me take a peek at all of the changes and it is stunning. All new furniture, paint, wall paper, linens, quilts. I cannot wait to see how the cottage turns out. The breakfast every morning was as amazing as usual - delicious and very filling. I loved ending each day sitting by the giant fire place, sipping tea. They really know how to spoil us. I am already looking forward to our next stay.

I stumbled across this absolute gem a few years back and have returned many times since. It's a lovely change from your usual chain style hotels as each room has its own unique charming design. Kris & David are absolutely wonderful hosts who attend to your every need...especially the 3 course gourmet breakfast!! No matter what your dietary needs they will not only accommodate you but blow you away!! Cannot recommend high enough.

A bit smokey but Z was still enjoying the view

Extremely impressed by this cute B&B. First off, Kris and David are so sweet and inviting, it really does feel like you're staying with friends & family. The house is historic and adorable as well. There is a lot of outdoor seating, and when the air quality is better, you can see Mt Shasta right from the porch. Sadly we're visiting during fire season, but we did see the outline of Mt Shasta! We booked a room with an ensuite bathroom, and it was very clean and updated. Also, there was AC which we were thankful for as it's summer and Fire season. On to the best and most impressive part of our stay, THE FOOD. I am a home cook and a Yelp foodie, and so I have high standards. We had egg soufflé the first morning and Italian baked eggs the second. Both were so so good! The pastries were also to die for. The raspberry bars and blackberry (fresh picked by Kris) turnover were fantastic, so we asked to take one on our excursion. David also told us where to go, which was very kind as we had to adjust our plans related to the air quality. Pluto's Cave, McCloud Falls, and Burney falls were great! All in all, I hope we can come back soon and do some big hikes (maybe up Mt Shasta ) See you next time!

We loved every minute of this gorgeous historical mansion. Omg the couple running it are 10 stars for sure. The food is the best in the world they cook for you! We have been everywhere and this was the best. We loved the view and the music playing as well. You can trust your vacation or event here. Thank you so much.

Mount Shasta as a destination is close to the idea of paradise, and Mount Shasta Ranch is an unforgettable experience that makes you smile in that warm nostalgic afterglow, akin to having experienced something magical, something that goes missing in our sterile, clinical, busy lives back in the metropolis. The stars of the show are Kris and David, who are some of the warmest hosts you will have the privilege of meeting. David welcomes you and shows you around the property, like a proud father who delves into the rich 100 year old history of this beautiful carriage house. While Kris truly completes the magical experience, with her masterful cooking, elegance and attention to detail. We have stayed in many B&B's in Europe and around the world, however Mount Shasta Ranch has exceeded our expectation. It didn't feel like staying in a commercial establishment, but the care, attention and love felt more like staying with family (without the drama :-) ). Stay: You have the option of staying in the main house (highly recommended, if available), or the back house (which is a great experience in itself). However, waking up in the main house to the magnificence of Mount Shasta's gleaming peaks reminds you how nature has chiseled beauty to perfection. It's a deeply spiritual experience, feeling the energy of the mountains. The rooms are well appointed, clean, beds are comfortable, WiFi is solid, bathroom is clean and the water is as fresh as it gets. Breakfast: Simply calling it a breakfast is to do Kris and the culinary experience, injustice. It's a 3-course gourmet affair that is a blend of fine dining and comfort food. What makes it special is that Kris and David cater the breakfast to your dietary preference, whether you are keto, vegan, gluten-free, allergic to everything, or all that and more. We experienced the 3-course breakfast across the 3 days of the labor day weekend, and I am happy to recall, fondly, that the breakfast was dangerously delicious, every single time. I do not know how Kris managed to cater to so many discerning guests and their preferences, but somehow she managed to create culinary magic for each one of us (we spoke to other guests who were in awe of the experience). Sitting outside, in near perfect weather, watching the magnificent mountains, sipping some hot coffee and orange juice, and eating such delicacies as poached pear, chia pudding, handpicked blackberries from the garden, potato wedges baked to perfection that dance with caramelized garlic and mushrooms to create that crisp umami texture and flavor, decadent pastries that feel closer to Paris than America, chickpea potato and kale bowls with toasted sour dough bread, You can tell that Kris does not compromise, and uses simple but fresh ingredients, in inventive ways, to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary. There's decent coffee and tea with a variety of dairy and non dairy creamers. There's always sangria, white and red wine in the refrigerator, that go so well with the delectable cookies that Kris bakes every day. Chocolate chip, say no more! Location: It doesn't get better than this. You are 2 minutes from downtown, and being on the other side of the highway, you get the peace and quiet that lets you enjoy nature at its purest. There's ample parking, we even saw someone park their boat. Entertainment: Sure you have your TV in your room, and Wifi to power your streaming desires, however the main house has a games room, with a ping pong and pool tables, and over 25 board games. While Kris feeds your soul, David helps you get the best out of this magical place. He helps you plan your day to cater to your needs. We wanted to hike and experience the outdoors, and he made us an itinerary that saved us many hours of planning. And he even recommended places where locals love to eat. From hikes to lakes to falls, we packed in a lot of adventure in 3 days. If you are craving a magical experience a couple hours drive outside of the bay area, Mount Shasta Ranch is the place to feed your soul. We can't wait to plan our next trip in winter. Tip: Instead of booking the wrong room on a travel site (Ex. no view, or like us you would prefer the main house), consider calling Kris and David directly, or book directly on their website.

The inn itself is charming and the breakfast room is welcoming... we left too early to take advantage of the complimentary breakfast but noted it for next time. We did make it to the evening wine tasting, which was a nice touch. A white and a red were offered. Small hiccup... the server mentioned she'd have to run across the street to their sister property to grab a wine opener. We didn't want to wait so we just went with the red since it was already open. She also gave us a dinner recommendation that turned out to be a good call. The room was spacious and clean for two people. Good amenities... a safe, a fridge that's bigger than a mini but smaller than a full size, a microwave, and a dinette seating area. The outlets are dated and made keeping a charger plugged in a little frustrating. But the detail that genuinely impressed me... two luggage racks. Sounds small but even higher end hotels usually only give you one. That kind of thoughtfulness adds up. Would stay again if passing through Mount Shasta... and next time we're staying long enough for breakfast.

I was so happy with my bed and breakfast experience that I definitely will trust my fellow reviewers in the future. First, Janelle was super accommodating and let me check in early because I would be attending the wedding and needed to get ready. She followed up with me on text message as to my arrival time to make sure that she would be there to greet me. When I walked in, I noticed my phone number was coded to the key pad entrance to the B&B. So cool! Janelle was there to greet me and give me an envelope with my key and instructions. I went up with her to the bedroom and needless to say, was so impressed with her style and quality that she brings to her B&B. The room seemed to be flawless in the way that she spent time picking out pictures and linens. The linens were even washed in a very nice fabric softener and didn't have that normal "hotel" smell. I was able to get the Sun Dial Room, and even though it was the most expensive, it was definitely worth every penny. There was a fresh, large bottle of water in the room with chocolates. I had free wifi and a nice flat screen TV. A jacuzzi tub. And oh, did I mention.. the best, most comfortable bed that I never wanted to leave? Top it off.. breakfast in the morning makes me giddy just thinking about it. I had french toast, a vegetable frittata, potatoes, chicken/apple sausage, fresh juice and coffee. Janelle served breakfast promptly at 8:30 and I was definitely there with bells on. Everything was served family style and while eating breakfast you are able to enjoy the company of other guests, which makes breakfast that much more entertaining. For a few bucks more, stay at this bed and breakfast. Completely avoid the Howard Johnson or other chain hotel. You will not be disappointed.

The rooms all run along a wooden walkway facing the parking lot. I was notified there would be construction from 9 to 5 which wasn't a problem for me as I was arriving after 5 and leaving before 9. What was a problem was that the parking lot was roped off so you had to park on the outer edges rather than in front of the room, I was in 18. This was a bit of an issue for me as one of the reasons I booked was that just coming off of a knee replacement I wanted a room that I could park directly in front of. If they had disclosed this, I would have gone somewhere else. Secondly, the pillow situation was pretty horrible, old feather pillows which flattened down to nothingness, no support at all. The heating unit was one of those old wall units with a really loud fan, so couldn't keep that on. They allow pets in certain rooms which is nice if you're traveling with dogs! I enjoyed how communicative the staff were. If you needed something, you can text a number and they were on it! They advertise that you may not have service here, but we had service and they also had wifi. They had great views outside on the deck. The grounds were nicely maintained. It was very easy to get here and right off highway 5. On the other hand, being a bed and breakfast I was expecting breakfast to be a bit better tasting. Breakfast is included in your stay. They provide fruit, yogurt, granola, juice, coffee, and toast. You get to also choose one main entree served with a side of potatoes. The main entree rotates so it's different daily. Overall breakfast could definitely be improved taste wise, but it's very convenient and nice of them to do this. Another downfall was the temperature in the main lobby/ dining area. They ran it hot in there and if you needed to get ice (they don't have ice machines, so they provide buckets of ice) it was all melted. This happened twice. Minor complaints!

A full hot and cold breakfast buffet is included in the rate, and there is a community fridge and microwave on the deck. Some of the rooms have kitchenettes - about $99 for a double. The inn is in a building built in the late 1800s and used to provide lodging for the single men who worked in this old logging town. Yes, it's got older furniture and the building is due for some maintenance, but the owner Hiromi Suzuki keeps it impeccably clean. The tap water is magical! Place a glass on the countertop and little bubbles will form on the sides of your glass. Nestle wanted to come and bottle it, but you can enjoy it for free. (All of the water in the Shasta area is vibrant and pure. The local hospital has dispensation to use tap water if there is an emergency and sterile water is unavailable. There is also a separate building called the Kiva, which is available for rent at $200/day for workshops and the like. Looking at photos and comments posted from previous guests, my assumption of the interior's condition and accommodations was validated. You get for what you pay for and looking at their rates, that is so true.
