Stopped by Mountain Burger and was seriously impressed. The burgers are juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked just right, with fresh toppings that actually add flavor instead of overpowering everything. Review - Mountain Burger (Bend, Oregon) - Lunch for 2 This is a review of a recent lunch with a friend at Mountain Burger in Bend, Oregon. The space is open, airy, and well cared for. We sat outside, which was a very comfortable spot. The restaurant wasn't very busy during our visit. All of the staff deserves AAA ratings. They were beyond polite, very helpful, and very professional. The service was excellent and well paced: we were quickly seated, brought water and menus, had our order taken, and the food arrived without delay. Staff checked in to make sure everything was to our liking. and closed things out smoothly with the check. Speaking of which, big thanks to my friend for picking up the tab. Loved this burger joint! They had several vegan/vegetarian options. Most importantly they labeled their burgers with level of nature impact with vegan burgers having the lowest carbon footprint. I appreciate their sustainability goals and wish more restaurants start doing this. We got the crunchy cauliflower and sweet potato burger which were both delicious. We had an outstanding experience at Mountain Burger. First of all, our server, Whitney, was not only helpful and cheery, but she made sure we were taken care if from beginning to end. Just fabulous. For the food, we opted for their signature burger and it did not disappoint. Fresh, locally sourced beef, and a bun that actually holds up. For an appetizer, we opted for the maple bacon sweet potato fries. Let me tell you, one of the best appetizers out there! Great burgers and fries. Had the onions rings as an appetizer then the 50/50 burger and the mountain burger. They taste pretty similar. 50/50 still tasted like a normal burger. A win all the way around! Great find, and seems to be a fave for locals. Awesome burger menu (especially or the faux-meat crew) with a lot of creativity. Better yet, the taste meets and exceeds the creativity. The onion rings are truly on point, as well. These folks are nailing it all around with a big beer menu (need far more NA options) and amazing mint chip ice cream cookies for dessert. Killer! I've been sitting on this review for a bit, as I've been struggling to properly convey my disappointment for this place. Finally decided to check out this place one afternoon after passing it many times. There were 3 people eating when I arrived, so I thought it would be a quick in and out....nope. Overall ambiance is fine, like any other restaurant in Bend. No issues there. However, it was some of the SLOWEST service I've seen from a restaurant. Took over 10 minutes to even get a menu to order after sitting down. A burger and fries took way too long for that empty of a restaurant (25+ minutes), and the waiter passed our table half a dozen times with our drinks empty, ignoring my attempts to flag them down. Whatever, that's still not an issue. Seemed like a younger staff, but I couldn't imagine the service being improved if there was more than 3 people eating there. Not a great look/feel. Now let's talk about the food... ...what was that? The price of a Burger + Fry was $16 - $24 when I went. I ordered a Big Butte Burger w/ fries for $21, and it was just absolutely disappointing for what you were paying for. There was absolutely nothing special about the burger. The meat was dry, the bacon felt microwaved, and the size portion of fries given for a $21 combo was on par with a child's/small fry from McDonalds (which is a very low bar), and nothing memorable. The quality, portions, & service was what I'd expect for a $11 burger, not $20+. Five Guys is the gold standard of overpriced burgers and fries. However, if I got $21 in food from Five Guys, it's at least a healthy portion, and honestly would taste better (and served quicker). When you are being compared (and losing) to Five Guys, you know it's not good. There is SO many good restaurants in Bend that have both great food AND a great value, and Mountain Burger has neither of these things. I have honestly no idea how this place is still in business, but I cannot recommend enough to avoid this place. Please return to the drawing board and deliver a better value, because right now it's overpriced slop that will get someone curious like me to come in and try once, realize the horrible mistake they made, then go to Yelp and tell everyone how bad it is. 2/5 Stars - and that's being nice. Sorry, but this place needs a revamp and better pricing if you want to not be the default "bad restaurant" suggestion of the r/Bend subreddit. If you are interested in sending someone to an overpriced restaurant where they will leave disappointed, i.e an enemy, I cannot recommend Mountain Burger enough. Best burger in Bend hands down! Asked for my burger well done and it came out perfect which I appreciate. So many times restaurants undercook my burgers, but not this place - they made it exactly how I asked. Quality Ingredients are worth every single penny here. As someone who is very sensitive to processed food and chemicals, most places leave me not feeling so well after the meal - but not this place. I left feeling great and I very much appreciate that. Good sauces, fries are decent, wide array of options. Grass Fed Beef, Organic Mahi Mahi, and I believe Free Range or Organic Chicken. Stopped in for dinner on a Weds night and immediately appreciated the interior. The place was crowded, but felt spacious and well laid-out. My wife had arrived before me and placed our order, so the food felt like it came out fairly quickly. I ordered the Hangover burger with onion rings. The burger was pretty good. i enjoyed the various textures of the toppings and it was well seasoned. The onion rings were good too. My only complaint is that by serving them in a high-sided, metal mug, the onion rings on the bottom were essentially steamed by the time I got to them. They were no longer crispy and the breading wanted to slough off. Still, the flavor was good. My biggest issue with the experience was the price. For 2 adults and 3 kids, our tab was ~$140 before tip. I ordered an alcoholic drink and the kids got kids' milkshakes, but it still seemed high. I also understand it's a high-rent area for restaurants and food service employees deserve to be paid more than they have historically. I just think there are comparable (and even better) burgers in town for less money. read more

Our friends recommend we have dinner at Mountain Burger. I did my Yelp search and new what to expect. Our friends ordered The 50/50 Burger with fries and the Rainbow Chair Salad which they shared. They seemed to like what they ate. My wife wound up getting the Crunchy Cauliflower Burger with fries. She wanted the Vegan Sweet Potato Burger but they were out of them. I had a Chocolate Rouge Porter on Nitro. The Big Butte Burger with fries. My beer was very good. When I mentioned I new what to expect about Mountain Burger , the portions do not fit the bill. They have an excellent menu with options for a variety of dietary preferences. The concept of veggie/meat blend burgers is really interesting, and the different patty options are pretty cool. The food is good, but nothing extraordinary. I got the Paradise Sando and it was tasty, but it felt like something was missing. I added a lot of hot sauce. The prices are a bit high as well. Over priced cheese burger. We had a party of 4 and requested separate checks. Party one has a cheese burger $18.00, glass of wine $15.00 and one beer. Party 2 has Emily blazin burger $22 and a beer. A lot of folks in Bend decry yet another burger joint, mentioning the many new ones that have appeared recently such as Blue Eyes, Mid-City and Americana. All added to the older establishments such as Dandy's, Bend Burger, Worthy Taps & Burgers and Hardy's. Fair point but Mountain Burger should be judged on its own merits I believe. Those merits include a very nicely appointed space with your more typical 'restauranty' area adjoining a bar section with side tables. It's a pleasant place to eat whichever section you choose. Mobility-challenged patrons will be more limited in their choices though (the bar area, for example, is probably out). What looks to be a nice patio as well; I was there while snow was falling so that wasn't an option. Note that this place used to be pflücke public house (not capitalized) until recently. The burger: I opted for the happy hour deal of $8 for a Mountain cheesburger. Side of fries is extra, $5. I thought the burger to be very good - well cooked, well constructed, not huge, with a fairly moist bun. Fries could have spent some more time in the fryer but you get a substantial portion (again, not huge) and they're tasty. Service: my friend Michele R - a Bend/Boise OG Yelper - mentioned in her excellent review (All her reviews are that, by the way. Follow Michelle on Yelp to get great insights on places to eat here and in Boise.) that the service was subpar, at least for her visit. Other reviewers have posted similar experiences. I'm happy to report that my server was top notch: friendly, helpful and efficient. No complaints in the least. Prices are reasonable. I mentioned the HH deal and they offer a $10 Wednesday deal as well (lunchtime - ends at 3PM). All burgers, loaded fries and salads are $10. Full bar by the looks of it. I'm a beer guy and they offer several local and regional craft brews on tap. 6$ for a full 16 oz pint, although strangely beer is not mentioned on any of their downloadable menus. Yeah, Mountain Burger is another burger joint in town but it's a good one. read more

Came here for the first time today. Was surprised to see it was full table service. Service was fantastic. Food was pretty darn good. Great flavors in everything from the patties to the fries. Feeling like I needed to update as Mountian Burger is now in a good groove. They sorted out prices and now it seems as close to perfect as you can get for what it is, casual dining with a bar in NWX. YELP SHORT ANSWER: Yes.. go have fun. Great location, buildout, hours, menu, happy hour, and the direction the ownership team is taking this great location will bode well in making it a long-term player on the Westside. It is not easy opening a F&B establishment in Bend as labor has been hard to find and keep, but it seems after several visits like everyone is happy and happy to see customers. Just got food to go here and we got the mountain burger with onion rings and the chicken sando with fries. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. The burger patty's were burnt and dry, the buns were small, the onion rings were extremely greasy and didn't have much flavor, the chicken sandwich was extremely underwhelming and the fries were all burnt and small. Fun area, with a tiny strip of small businesses and restuarants. Both indoor and outdoor seating available, with heaters outside. Pleasing decor and views of the mountains create a nice ambiance. Fantastic service, as theee very nice staff greeted us and asked if we wanted to start with drinks while deciding on food. The menu is a creative in how it approaches hamburgers: originally style, in a bowl, or a salad. I opted for a lettuce wrap and it was wonderful! The staff is knowledgeable and able to steer clear of gluten and offer alternative ways to create your meal. Each dish can be "elevated" with sauce, meat, or additional toppings. Each of us orders something different: bowl, sando, and lettuce wrap. Each tasted wonderful! I wanted to try each aioli variation. Will definitely be back when returning to Bend! read more

This place is a very upscale for burger joint. However, they serve up so serious grub. I had the Mountain Burger with a side of Onion Rings. The cheeseburger was loaded with condiments and a tangy sauce. Served on a Potato Bun which was delicious. The Onion Rings were so good. after eating a few rings I dipped them in their ketchup. Chopped liver. As metaphor for how we were treated by the server from the moment we sat down. Was it our ages or my disability that made it so or is he like this always? I know not but given I used to live in Bend and am a fan of the man who owns Mountain Burger for his other enterprises, Washington and The Drake, I'll enter in the benefit of the doubt that this young man has been retrained or given the boot from this new Northwest Crossing located eatery. He ruined what was an otherwise fun discovery and for which I made reservations. I can't believe I tipped him 20% but I feel like a cheapskate if that isn't the minimum tip these days (I once worked front of house in this industry including as server in the ancient times) so with food and tip the early dinner meal was about $70 and it was not a good value hospitality experience return on that investment and it was largely service that sunk the ship. The more I think about it the more I regret tipping him. And that is really out of character for me to say. THE SCHTICK: Burgers of all kinds, some specialties of the house and some that can be customized in any way your imagination takes you. Also milkshakes of all kinds and if I'm in again when visiting family I'll for sure order one of those. A full bar with creative cocktails both full octane (my hubby had a rum, pineapple, curacao drink served tall, Unscrewed $15 that he said was great) and unleaded (I had a soft cocktail made with jam...a first for me... Free Spirited $10 and I almost ordered a second it was so yummy). Although beef burgers are the majority here, as one would expect, we appreciated they offered a veggie burger, Manzanita $12, house made I think and delicious and a lamb burger $15, equally delicious, but the fail point on both of them was a potato bun that was very dry. In a nice touch the burgers - all are 4 oz as standard I think - arrive on heated plates. Garnished with only a pickle (a good one) and sides are available for only about five bucks. I ordered a side green salad $5 mostly because I wanted to try the Green Goddess Dressing that I could order with it. The dressing was great. I hope Ted keeps it on the menu. It would make a great burger spread too. But the side salad was a disappointing small mound of wilting romaine lettuce that had seen better days; I didn't eat it. SERVICE: My opening comments established that on this day for our experience it was lousy and at the end of the meal the check was "drop and go" without asking if we wanted dessert. And they weren't busy, soon after opening and not even a quarter of tables in use. Again, this is not typical of what we've experienced at Ted's other places. Maybe a one-off here. Your service-mileage may vary here. For the better I hope. LOCATION: Northwest Crossing neighborhood right next door to one of our fav little stop in to look-see-and-buy-something markets, West Coast Provisions. VIBE: There used to be a German-esque eatery that was short lived at this location and the new owner has done a good job of updating, refreshing and making it more inviting and sort of mountain theme. The outside patio is great and has the benefit of afternoon shade orientation in Bend's hot summer into fall weather. It has all standard height seating...cheers for that since all people can use it unlike the high perch tables there with the previous business. Inside has bar with high seating and a mix of high seats, step up booths (I am not a fan but they are a signature of all of this owner's eateries) and a standard height tables. In general this owner has been genius in crafting interesting spaces and he did it again here. ACCESSIBILITY: Patio has accessible seating. No accessible seating in the bar that I could see. My guesstimate is maybe four seats in the restaurant would be accessible to wheelchair users if you are planning for yourself or a family member. PARKING: On street in NW Crossing can be difficult at some times of day. There are parking lots behind some of the buildings. NOTE: During summer months there is a great Farmers' Market on this same NW Crossing street on Saturday mornings until about 2p I think. read more
