What a cool concept.. Was very fortunate enough to have a taste of Shave Ice by Fine Time Shave Ice at the event for First Hawaiian Bank at the Diamond Head Theater to celebrate "Frozen" the musical. It's fitting to have a shave ice station as the line was the longest filled with mostly the big kids all wanting to nab that cool treat and they're just amazing as Olaf would've been so proud to have this in the Summertime with the flurries of ice that can be made in so many ways with a dozen flavors including Green River, POG and yup Matcha but this is to celebrate frozen so we got a scoop of premium vanilla ice cream and Ramune giving it that cool light blue color along with a stick of Shiratama Mochi Balls this indeed had to be the coolest treat in town. They did have a Specialty Flavor of "Sven's Snow Cone" which was Ramune and POG topped with Condensed milk, glitter and sprinkles...gah! Love me sprinkles and glitter and never imagine a top of a snow cone though I didn't get it I know it had to be magical. We had a destination wedding in Hawaii and knew that we wanted to incorporate Hawaiian style foods. We asked our coordinator Tessa to recommend some shave ice vendors to us and Fine Time Shave Ice was basically the only one she recommended! We are super picky about the quality of the shave ice and Jana was so gracious to be able to host a sample tasting for us. She literally let us try every flavor there was (and there were so many! They were all so good). It was so hard to narrow it down to 9 flavors. Their shave ice is also so fluffy and perfectly sized. We had such a great time working with Jana and her team. We were able to get really cute custom cups with floral designs on them. They also brought tops of toppings. Back when I was playing baseball a shave ice truck stopped at Mililani district park. I remember the truck being called Island's finest shave ice ( don't know if the business was renamed) but the shave ice was really good. There was a variety of flavors and on a hot day it felt really good. The only reasons why I remember this place is because of a sticker that I got from them. Luckily, they were in my neighborhood today for First Friday at Mililani High School. It's been sooo hot and humid lately and this shave ice just hit the spot! So refreshing! The best part is when you get to the bottom and there's that perfect amount of ice cream melted with the flavored shave ice!! This review is for the Aloha Stadium kiosk. I stopped by Island's Finest Shave Ice for the first time before the last football game. It's been at the stadium for awhile now (with its enthusiastic LED disco light) but I never thought to try it, even though the temperature has been unbearable at times. It's $5 for a small and only a +$1 upcharge ($6) for a large. That sounds expensive, but you have to remember that these are stadium prices. PLUS, you get three free toppings (i.e. ice cream, condensed milk, li hing powder, etc.), which is super generous. I don't know of any other shave ice places on the island that give free toppings. When you pay through the nose for sub-par food at the rest of the stadium, IFSI stands out as a diamond in the rough. Other stuff: I like that the shave ice is nice and fine, not chunky. They have an impressive assortment of flavors (again, considering this is a kiosk) and they pour a good amount of syrup, so you won't run into plain ice patches. The staff is super friendly. So when I experienced my first time as a customer of this business, I was at a fair. Waiting in line was really bad service! Though my friend and I would be expecting to buy "finest shave ice," we did not. The workers at the event were skipping us and serving other customers in line who were in the back of us. The man was just looking at my friend and I as if we were just freeloader. But we were waiting in line. Waiting for about 10 minutes, until another customer was assuming that we were cutting in line. So we left. At first, lines were bunched up. No lines. Just free sided. Not only that, but they basically gave a free shaved ice to someone who was short on money, YET NOT SERVING A CUSTOMER WITH MONEY TO BUY THE SHAVE ICE! We only ended up buying cotton candy, which was a total mess. Not my cup of tea, but if you insist into buying from this kiosk, go Ahead. Not expecting more from any kiosk like that again read more
