tldr: If you want great service from mechanics who know their stuff and are in this business to fix…read morecars (and not, say, to scam customers), go here. Also, they're brilliant with older vehicles. Details: I've gone to A Ok Auto Clinic twice, and both experiences have been fantastic. The first time, after a long day of hiking, I discovered that my car wouldn't shift out of first gear. At all. I managed to limp it down to Georgetown and got it towed the rest of the way. A mechanic friend said it was probably a busted transmission. When I called A Ok, they said the same thing, though they'd need to look to be sure. I left, dreading the call I'd be getting and trying to decide whether it was worth keeping the car. Then they called. Transmission was fine. Clutch cables had jammed due to rust. They'd cleaned them, lubed them up, and everything was working again. Cost - for the assessment and fix? $50. (This was several years ago, but still!) So a few months ago when I was in CO and had a car issue, I went back. This time I'd noticed some decrease in the performance of my AC, and I was about to drive 1000 miles back across the US in the middle of a heat wave. John was fantastic - he was able to work the car in before I left, check over the AC, and also evaluate a check engine light which I was concerned meant a busted catalytic converter. He confirmed my fears on the light but did shut it off to see if it would come back. As for the AC, he flushed the system, cleaned out some gunk in the condenser, and showed me where some fins had been bent, so it wasn't performing as well as it used to - but he got it working quite well without having to actually replace the condenser. His take on it was, "This is a 20+-year-old car; the last thing you want to do is pay for a repair you don't really need. If the AC starts having problems again, then consider replacing it, but I don't think you'll need to." Again, prices were very reasonable. The AC is still running great, as is the car. And that check engine light never came back, so I don't need to worry about the catalytic converter for some time to come. Given their current cost, that's a huge relief - thanks, John. I no longer live in CO, but I travel there frequently, and from now on, this is the shop I'll go to when I'm out there.

So my partner and I broke down on I-70, about fifteen miles west of Idaho Springs, and called AAA…read more Triple-A called Scorpion and they accepted the tow but said that, due to other jobs they'd been called out on, we'd have to wait in the car at the side of the Interstate for 90 to 120 minutes. Well, we weren't thrilled, but we get it: we were in the middle of nowhere, it was evening on a weekend, and it happened to be busy. So we sat down to wait. And we waited. And waited. And when we tried to check in with Scorpion two and a half hours later, no one picked up the phone. So we called AAA again, who contacted the driver eventually, who turned out to have taken some other job and driven all the way out to Rifle or some damn place. It would have been basic human decency to take the tows in the order they came in instead of based on how much they were paying--you know, keeping the promises you make, like your mother taught you when you were four and five and six. (At least, mine did.) Or they could have called and said "This other job is taking longer than expected and we're really sorry, but we're going to be later than we thought," which would have been minimally polite, even if not true. Or they could have had AAA call us and let us know, which would have at least been minimally decent. Or they could have called us themselves and said, "Hey, we got a non-AAA call, which pays better, so you jerks are just going to have to wait 'til we're slow," which would have at least been honest. But they didn't do any of that. They just left us sitting on the side of a mountain in the dark with our thumbs in our asses, waiting for a ride that wasn't even coming. Special bonus: we also had to go to the bottom of the line at the other place AAA called, so we had another wait of over an hour. Which made for more than four hours sitting on the side of the mountain in the dark with no bathrooms or water or food because these cowards took a job but didn't bother to fulfill it. Thanks, Scorpion! Great work!

I checked with other shops in the area. This is not even in the ballpark of a fair price. They are lying about providing an estimate prior to service. That never happened. They threatened to "kick my a**" because I was attempting to argue these charges. They called me a dbag, told me to F myself. All sorts of profanity and insults. Just an absolutely insane way to treat a customer who has brought business to them for years. Never again. My fault for trusting them to conduct their business in an honest manner. I've taken vehicles here before so I wasn't expecting to get ripped off and extorted like this. I certainly was not expecting to be threatened with violence. It is unfathomable to me how a business owner could think that scamming, stealing from, insulting, and threatening working people in their own community will be a successful business strategy. If this is how they treat locals, imagine how they treat tourists... Edit: the business owner is blatantly lying in their reply to this review. I WAS NEVER PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE. Stop lying. Charge me a fair price, and don't threaten to beat me up when I complain about you scamming me. It's really not that difficult. Just be a decent human being. What is wrong with these people? This place used to be ok. Sadly, not anymore. I dont know what changed, but do yourself a favor and steer clear.
