A decision was made at some point that visitors to Yosemite prefer fast, bland, boring food to food that actually tastes good. You come to one of the most beautiful places on earth and are invited to order food (from a TV screen) that has been prepared who knows how many hours in advance? My Breakfast Combo (scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, mini croissant) was ready in less time than it took me to type this description - which isn't difficult when to food was cooked an hour ago. It's fast (usually) but it sucks. "Please bring me boring, tasteless food, in a hurry." Said no one, ever. A MUCH better choice at Yosemite is Degnin's Deli, where real humans take your order and MAKE YOU WAIT while it's prepared. read more

While staying at the Yosemite Valley Lodge we had breakfast at the Base Camp Eatery. This is a cafeteria style restaurant right in the Lodge common area (near the lodge main office). We walked the short distance to the Eatery where there was a small line. You place your order at electronic kiosks with a number of options for the morning meal, and for most items on the menu you can customize your order. They also serve dinner and lunch but we enjoyed those meals at other locations in the Valley. After you place your order - and pay for it at the kiosk - you receive a receipt with your order number. The kitchen staff prepares your meal and calls your number. My wife and I ordered the same thing our first morning, the Breakfast Bundle. We both often for Bacon (pork sausage was the other option) which was served with scrambled eggs and breakfast potatoes. My wife found a table while I wanted for our food (at certain times, an indoor table can be elusive - she found one in just a few minutes). We were both pleased with our meal. The scrambled eggs and potatoes were seasoned well and the bacon had minimal gristle. There was ample serving for a reasonable price - especially knowing we were deep inside a National Park. They do serve coffee but we splurged and ordered Mocha Latte from Starbucks which is next door. On our second morning we wanted a lighter breakfast as we had plans for a bigger lunch that day. We ordered two Yogurt parfait with a side order of two pastries. It was a good sized container with greek style yogurt - with added blueberries and strawberries. I also selected one fruit danish and one chocolate croissant. Once again,. we both enjoyed our orders. I appreciate having a quality meal available in such a convenient location in the park with reasonable prices. I did note several bad reviews and it looks like it's related to lunch or dinner meals. read more

Pork chile verde bowl was not good at all. The entire bowl tasted like everything came out of a can and was not fresh at all. The only thing I liked was the side of crinkle cut fries. Kiosk ordering system is available. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, however, it gets full fast. Customer service was okay. read more

Wow. I didn't actually realize that food could be so bad, and I don't actually consider myself to be a particularly picky eater. We were visiting during the off-season which meant that the menu was much more limited. Breakfast was the best meal by far and still had a fairly wide number of options, but lunch and dinner had very few options (and the options weren't very good). There really aren't many food options, so I'd probably recommend bringing microwave meals for dinner and using the microwave in the lobby area. For breakfast, they had lots of different options including pancakes; eggs, bacon, sausage combo; breakfast burritos; yogurt parfaits; and oatmeal. The breakfast burrito and egg and meat combos were the best options, and the yogurt parfait was as expected. Very few items were available for lunch or dinner; they were as follows Cheeseburger Hot honey chicken sandwich Burger Chicken tenders Hot dog Pizza (sometimes) The cheeseburger and the hot honey chicken sandwich are the least offensive dinner items. The pizza is unequivocally awful; if you think pizza cannot be messed up, Base Camp Eatery will prove you wrong. read more

They had a black bean burger but it's not clearly labeled as vegan. I wish it would be clearly labeled as "vegan " I would wish a national park would have a lot of plant based options since it's much more environmentally friendly...they ended the original fire fall over environmental unfriendliness, they should phase out meat and other high environmental impact foods. My black bean burger said it would come with vegan aoli but it didn't. Also I had to ask for the cup from my combo, if I hadn't they would have forgot. Service seemed tired and they yell really loud! Limited options but I have to admit that given the volume of purple they have to serve during peak lunch time, they are very efficient. While it took a while to reach the front of the line to the kiosk to place my order, it only took a few minutes for the order to be ready. We ordered- Chicken tenders Side of fries Pesto pasta Crispy chicken sandwich Black bean oat burger Side order of the Basecamp sauce We actually enjoyed everything. I'm surprised because I would not expect that from a food court in a national park. Food is overpriced (which this was) and not good (which this wasn't). The fries and tenders were crispy, the sandwich was yummy with the fresh coleslaw, the burger was tasty, the pasta was bland but filling. We enjoyed the food so much that we also ordered the tenders, fries, and chicken sandwich to go, to eat later! One thing that's important to note is that the pasta station is different than the station for the other foods and it is not clearly marked. Grab a seat at the start because it can get very crowded at lunch and then one person can place the order. Would recommend lunch here so that you can fuel up between the various hikes! read more

We weren't planning on eating in Yosemite but we got caught in a thunderstorm and had nothing else to do so we decided to come in here while we waited out the storm. You order on a kiosk. After we ordered we realized there was nowhere to sit. This was awful with 3 little kids. They don't have enough seating and don't seem to mind people taking up seating that didn't even purchase anything from here. We finally got 2 seats at a counter type table to put our food down at and let 2 of our kids sit and then we (adults) just stood at there. We got the chicken fingers and pizza. The food is overpriced (as to be expected somewhere like this). The chicken fingers were surprisingly decent enough. The pizza was just bad. I didn't know staff could be colder than the food. They all look as miserable as what they serve. Inside is just basic cafeteria style ambiance that serves as an assembly line of what seems to be previously frozen food. DONT ORDER FRIES! Cold and hard always, 5 times across the board between my friends and myself. I tried a second time thinking they'd be warm/freshly reheated/refried during busy hours. Watched a woman put "fresh" fries on top of old ones after receiving mine. Bring your own food, but be careful. If you leave a cookie crumb or chapstick out they will invade your campsite take your food, or chapstick without notice. Whole place is horrible and overcrowded. read more

Very conveniently located in an adjacent building next to the front desk and close to our room. The dining area was fairly large and was very well kept. The food selection was alright, typical grilled options and salads. There a couple of vending machines inside that dispensed various cold sandwiches and ice creams. We ordered our food using one of their self-service kiosks. We ordered the cheeseburger combo and cheese pizza. The burger came with all the fixings, the bun was soft, and the patty was adequate. Overall an ok burger. The cheese pizza was cheesy and the sauce tasted a bit like canned pizza sauce. The portion was generous for a personal size pizza and more importantly, my child liked it. We also stopped by in the morning for breakfast and they had the typical options: breakfast burrito, pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausages, etc. They even had a vegan burrito option which was nice. Pretty fast service on a federal holiday. On the day we came, the cafeteria was just barely full, and the park was near-empty (because it was so darn cold). Food was made-to-order nearly immediately, and there were no lines. Generally speaking, food here is overpriced. You're paying for the cost of shipping food to the 'middle of nowhere'. But I gotta say, after trying many items on the menu, I recommend the basic cheeseburger. Here's what we ordered: * Cheeseburger: If we ever go back, we'll be sure to order this. This is the only item worth ordering in my opinion. It's not particularly special, but it's quite decent! The patty is decently juicy, and the bun is toasted crispy on one side. Especially for a food hall, I was surprised. * Chicken Terryaki: Not bad, but would not recommend. The chicken is too salty, and the vegetables taste funny. The brown rice is dry. Although, the chicken was decently soft, so at least the chicken wasn't dry! Seems like it was prepared in a sous vide (e.g., a slow boil). * Kalua pork: Very salty for my taste buds. If it wasn't for the extra sauce, I think this might've been a decent dish. The taste of the pork and the macaroni was quite spot on. If you order this, just ask for no sauce! Or ask for sauce on the side. In short, it's a cafeteria. It won't fill you, and it won't be cheap, but after a long hike, this is all you need really! read more

One of 3 eating places at Yosemite Valley Lodge, Base Camp Eatery is the cheapest option, offering a cafeteria-style setup with to-go options. Base Camp will likely leave you with either a like it or hate it feel, based on what time you go. When there are no crowds, Base Camp offerings a modern cafeteria feel, plenty of seating options, a variety of food styles and types, to go option for heading out, and (frankly) it's amazing getting this much in the middle of a forest. But if there are crowds, the inefficiencies of Base Camp will come up. The pricing is high but you have to factor in how far everything has to come and where you are. But lines can be outrageously long, services not working (2 working kiosks out of 6 total), and understaffed. Our first pizza was burned as the cook had to do something else and we had to wait for basically 2 pizzas to be made. Give yourself extra time when coming here and always plan for a backup if you're on a schedule. read more

My cheeseburger was a typical cafeteria lunch but was accentuated with the mountain sauce (bbq sauce with a little kick of spice). The fruit cup and apple pie were about average. The place has been upgraded since my last visit 9 years ago and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Overall a sold non-fancy place for lunch. read more

OMGee.... Don't expect to 'enjoy' breakfast, if you're hungry and this *is* fast food, but it's anything but FAST. Potatoes were burnt, eggs MUST have been powdered, bacon and croissant were good. And although everything is prepared and just scooped onto plates, it took 15 minutes to get our food, and there were only two people ahead of us!! I'm confused as to why Base Camp Eatery is rated as low as it is on Yelp. To be honest, I thought this was a delicious and convenient option for Yosemite goers like my family and me. Base Camp Eatery is located in Yosemite Valley Lodge - perfect if you're staying in one of the lodge rooms. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On top of their more standard American fare for lunch + dinner (think hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken tenders...) they also have some Mediterranean and Asian-inspired dishes, like chicken teriyaki rice bowls and gyros. May not be authentic, per say, but if you're strapped for affordable food options, Base Camp Eatery fits the bill. Coming here for dinner with my family, I ordered the Mediterranean chicken bowl. I was surprised by how juicy and tender the grilled chicken thighs were. The portion size was very reasonable. I actually had a little leftover for a little snack the next day! My parents and brother, meanwhile, stuck with their burgers and chicken tenders. Overall decent, but not the best that my family has had. Nonetheless, I appreciated that Base Camp Eatery was located so close to our stay in Yosemite. read more

As far as national park food goes, Base Camp Eatery is best described as serviceable. I don't expect much from cafeteria food in general, but this is definitely not great. Breakfast was okay, although one day they were out of oatmeal (!). Also quite odd in that their overhead digital signage menus had some offerings (French toast, biscuits and gravy) at least one of the days we were there, yet the only way to order food is a half-dozen kiosks... And the kiosks never showed French toast or biscuits and gravy. Lunch and dinner were even worse, while you can only expect so much from powdered eggs and bacon, they generally come out in a timely manner. Dinner one day had a nearly 45 minute wait for pizza... Sigh. And the Asian food options, which we turned to the next day after the awful wait for pizza, is, well, about as edible as you'd expect. read more

Visited in May 2025 - Terrible experience. This was easily one of the worst meals I've ever had. The rice was severely undercooked--like pasta boiled for 4 minutes instead of 12. Not al dente, just raw. The zucchini was also half-raw, and none of the food was properly seasoned. It felt like no one in the kitchen even tasted what they were serving. This isn't just about being short-staffed. It's about poor kitchen management and a complete lack of basic cooking skills. When I asked to speak with the chef, the staff told me I wasn't the only one who had complained. That says everything. The chef should be held accountable--or replaced. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Yosemite deserves better. read more

It's one of the only places to eat in Yosemite, so given its isolation and convenience you can't expect much. Food is overpriced, you order at a kiosk and then they call your number. They had foods like burgers and pasta, but they seemed too expensive, which is why I settled on their cheapest option, the $12 chicken sandwich. It was pretty dry, had a strange spice to it (I think too much pepper) and not that tasty. Bread was old, stale. The fries were fine, but it's hard to mess up fries. Definitely the worst dining experience. We ordered 4 meals through the kiosks, and in a room full of people amidst the chatter they will "call" your name out when your order is ready. After waiting a bit my son's pizza came out, but still missing 3 meals. No big deal so we sit my son down to eat. No exaggeration, we waited an HOUR before our food came. Here's what happened....after noticing it had been some time, my husband went to the front to ask where the rest of our order was. They stated it was still being made. Which was odd because a bunch of new people had already gotten their orders. After a few more checks and being told the same thing I knew something was off. Me and my husband went up there together and had to insist we hadn't gotten our food yet. The staff lady angrily took my receipt and insisted we already got our meals (as if we wouldn't know). Mind you it has been an hour now. We tell her it's been an hour and would like our meals. She angrily starts plating them in which she spills the sauce all over my food, and then proceeded to just hand it to us. No apologies, nothing. We will stick with supporting the Starbucks next door. read more

I can honestly say that there have been some improvements since our last visit in 2020. Unfortunately, these improvements were primarily because of the new ordering system. Several kiosks will take your order in several languages, though we couldn't figure out if we could place one order in two different languages. Our guest from Japan was able to order his own food in Japanese so that took some stress off of us. Once we understood what he wanted, we restarted the order in English and ordered and paid for everything on one check. While I am not a fan of self-checkout and ordering kiosks, I can see how this can make the ordering process less frustrating for non-English speaking guests. Once we were done with placing our order and had our receipt in hand, a very friendly staff member helped us with our drink cups and pointed out where to dispense our own beverages. My companions went to find a table while I waited for our order number to be called. Because it was relatively early, about 7:30am, the wait was very short, about three minutes. There are two styles of seating. Regular wood tables with wood chairs or taller wood tables with tall benches. I'm not sure who ordered those tall tables and benches. I would think that both older and younger guests might have a difficult time getting seated and if your feet don't reach the floor, sitting on those hardwood benches would quickly become uncomfortable. Of course, that could have been part of the logic because hikers might eat and then just sit all day if it were too comfortable. I liked that the Garbage and Compostable containers were clearly labeled. There were also a few baking racks that held some trays that guests were supposed to bus their own plates and utensils to. The racks were also clearly labeled so items could be stacked in a way that made sense and prevent accidents. And that's where the good ended. The food (yes, that's why we were there) was edible but only for sustenance and not overall enjoyment. The coffee was typical of institutional coffee, what I call "cardboard" coffee because of the sour cardboard aftertaste. Our guests enjoyed his short stack of two plate-sized pancakes. I do give credit that the syrup dispenser dispensed warm syrup. Pats of butter were also available. Two of us ordered the standard "Full Breakfast" without any upgrades. Two Pork Sausage, Scrambled Eggs, (Country?) Potatoes and a small croissant for $11 each. There were options to change potatoes for more eggs; upgraded pastries, etc. The sausages were fine albeit cold; scrambled eggs were created in bulk, unevenly cooked and bland; potatoes cold, dry and really inedible. The tiny croissant was the winner on my plate. I'm sure that the employees do the best they can with what they have to work with. The non-competitive nature of National Parks Concessions does not create any reason for the vendor to seek real improvements since they have a captive audience in the park's visitors. If this quality of food were to be served outside of a National Park environment, I have no doubt the restaurant would be another casualty of popular opinion. read more

The scrambled eggs (?) were a scoop of the most tasteless yellow glob of - I don't even know what - certainly not real eggs. The potatoes and bacon were decent. But $12.50 each? No thanks. read more

Ate here twice when I visited Yosemite this September and loved this place. There are several types of meals to choose from so it was very convenient after a long hike in the heat.  The Greek kebab was very-very good. I honestly don't understand the low reviews. This place was our saving grace. Comfortable seating, high chairs, consistent food without flies everywhere and AIR CONDITIONING, let me say it again, air conditioning in the middle of Yosemite Valley. After a hot summer day, we came here and found a refuge with our toddlers. As long as you make it before the lunch rush when things go crazy, this place is a safe haven from the sun. The food gave good portions- ordered the cheeseburger, a beer, the salad, the peach cobbler. Then we came back the next day and I got a chicken teriyaki plate for lunch and a chicken pot pie as the soup of the day for breakfast. I would say this is a great place to eat compared to somewhere outdoors when you're in the Valley. They messed up the orders once or twice but the people working were good sports and just fixed it immediately. The service is quick and they have someone who helps you sort compost and recycling. I won't stop raving about what a godsend this place was. Nobody comes to Yosemite for fine dining and so that's not what you come to expect- but for the a/c and nice rest stop with easy cafeteria food served quickly and easily to an exhausted hot group, this place is perfect. read more

This is the most affordable of the three restaurants in Yosemite Lodge. We had dinner here three nights and it wasn't bad. The salmon was the best and the meatball rigatoni was pretty good. We didn't see much in the way of fresh vegetables, but the rigatoni sauce was made from scratch, I think. We felt like we had a decent-sized meal; the service was quick but indifferent. Considering where we were the prices were reasonable. The room was big with a high ceiling and lots of tall windows. The restaurant has it's quirks. You order from a kiosk, like at McDonalds. You don't know from which of the three stations on the long serving counter to pick up your food -- sometimes it could be two different stations or even all three -- so you need to listen carefully for your number to be called.
