Last night at approximately 8:30pm my family and friends had dinner here. Upon arrival the hostess was friendly. Once sat we were greeted by Sara. Here's where things went downhill. She clearly wasn't having a good day. We seemed rushed as soon as she greeted us. She repeatedly asked what our drink orders were. We let her know we would like a few minutes to look over the menu. Once she returned some alcohol was ordered. She was about to rush off when me and two others asked for iced teas. We were asking for three when as she walked away from the table. She clearly had to interest in to taking orders. She should have stayed to make sure the 8 of us had ordered. As soon as the drinks were out she asked to take our food orders. We placed the order then she scurried off. I had the shrimp pappardelle. The shrimp were large which was a nice surprise but the sauce lacked flavor. My friend said the wild mushroom and grilled asparagus risotto was dry. Others mentioned they enjoyed their steaks and the cioppino. Once we were done another waitress came to clear the table. She was outgoing and very friendly. I didn't catch her name. Sara returned to deliver the bill. Tip was included since there were eight of us. We didn't add anything additional due to her lack of customer service and poor attitude. We were looking for a nice last adult dinner and Saras poor attitude ruined the experience. read more

Upscale at the lodge, so don't come in your pj's, think collard shirt, something nice. Service was stellar - our waiter made good food suggestions, was able to make a substitution & knew the wines. We started with a bottle of wine & the crab cake, just lovely! Onto the mains, an order of the scallops, New York steak & the prawns. Just scrumptious all around. Teneya Lodge is located at Fish Camp in Mariposa County, about two miles from Yosemite National Park's South Gate Entrance. We decided to celebrate our 34th year wedding anniversary here. It was an interesting experience - with pluses and minuses. I'll have to break my review down to be fair. Atmosphere: The first thing you see when you enter is a cozy fireplace. It defines the space and creates a visual appeal, and can enhance the dining experience. (5 of 5) The restaurant's lighting is just bright enough to see and enjoy your companions and the food. (5 of 5) The tables are spaced far enough but the hard surfaces and open layouts bounce sound, so patrons began to speak louder in order to be heard. (3 of 5) The high-backed chairs were very comfortable even though they were difficult to move. (4 of 5) Overall 4.25 Price: $99 per person for a four-course dinner. Wine pairing cost extra. I don't drink liquor and my husband drove so he only had one drink. He ordered a Jack & Coke. It came in a small glass and had an odd taste so we had to send that back. He was informed that they used a different soda instead of coke (hello... jack and COKE...). (2 of 5) The remake was much better. (4 of 5) We were asked whether we wanted bottled water or regular water. My husband wanted bottled water but didn't get it, although his glass of water was filled without him having to request it. (4 of 5) One drawback was the glass itself. It looked spotty. (1 of 5) Overall 2.75 Food: After a half hour wait, the flow of food began. The saying "eating with your eyes" is true here. The presentations were 100% on point, emphasizing the dish's appearance, and influencing our perception of its taste and expectations. Having said that, I feel a need to add that not all the dishes were 100% satisfactory. Amuse-Bouche (spring peas, fresh mint, crostini) We were told 100% of everything on the plate was edible, but I begged to differ. I agree that this wakes up our palate for what's to come, but the pod of the peas is a tough, inedible shell. The crostini, though, well-seasoned had a very hard texture. (3.5 of 5) Next, we had Nori Tempura. This was not a part of the menu, but it is an exceptional dish. It had the right balance of salt and crust. *Nori tempura is a popular snack in Japan. It's made by lightly battering and deep-frying sheets of nori giving it a crispy texture and umami flavour. The kitchen aced this dish. (5 of 5) First Course: Spring Onion & Fennel Velouté (spring onions, fennel, cream, chives) The chef was heavy-handed with the salt here but it still tastes lovely. The nori tempura complimented the soup, giving it the balance it needed. (5 of 5) Second Course: Grilled American Wagyu Skirt Steak (maitake mushrooms, roasted mini vegetables, furikake anna potato, yakiniku sauce) Wagyu steak is renowned for its exceptional marbling and tenderness. The server said the steak was medium rare. We enjoyed the taste but think the meat may have sat out too long. Parts were chewy but the taste of salt and pepper brought out the rich buttery flavour. (3.5 of 5) The Furikake Anna Potato (a marriage of French and Japanese) was good. (5 of 5) The Maitake Mushroom has a rich, woodsy, earthy and meaty flavour. I wish there were more. (5 of 5) We wanted more of just the smear of Yakiniku Sauce. I think a little scoop on the side would have been welcomed. I like the addition of sesame seeds. (4 of 5) Now, the vegetables: The root hairs on the vegetables looked like they flew straight from the garden and landed on the plate. Doesn't look appetizing, but tasted fine. (4 of 5) Overall 4.5 The Finale: Deconstructed Rhubarb & Lemon Custard Tart (lemon olive oil powder, truffle, gelée, macaroon) This was a well-implemented lovely 'end-of-meal' treat. I enjoyed the lemon tart and the gelée. My husband liked the truffle as well as the gelée. Neither of us enjoyed the macaroons. (4 of 5) We tried to be genteel but diners were heard scrapping their plates to get to their desserts, causing discomfort to the ears - like nails on a chalkboard. (1 of 5) Overall 2.5 (the plates pulled the score of the food down) Staff & Service: Morgan was our server and Victor silently, and with agility topped the water in my husband's glass without fuss. (4 of 5) Parking: Due to the number of visitors to this lodge, and depending on the season, parking may be a bear. Give yourself time to find parking if you have reservations. (4 of 5) Last Impression: For the price diners fork out, you'd think a seamless napkin would be provided. Alas, one of our napkins had a loose seam. The silverware set and plates are from the same maker - Oneida. The steak knife is weighted and has a nice firm handle. Will we go back? We ate here last night but it was a let down especially for $99 per person 3 course meal. The staff was very nice so no complaint there but the service was super slow. It took about 35 minutes to get every dish and the portions were extremely small. We were served 1 small ravioli. The steak was good and so were the drinks but the portions were so small. The prefix menu was a delight of flavors and the wine pairing made for an even more enjoyable time. We were able to meet the chefs and talk with them about the food. Embers is an oasis! You pass through the glass door and enter a quiet, dignified restaurant. Embers might be located in the Tenaya Lodge but inside you feel like you're miles away. I recommend making reservations since it seems to be popular. We were seated promptly and had a wonderful table for two in front of the fireplace. They feature many local wines and we opted for a red from Idle Hour that was spectacular. We also brought our own bottle to enjoy with dinner - they have a very reasonable corkage fee. Our server, Gordon, guided our choices wonderfully. We both started with the Lobster Bisque. It's made with a puff pastry cooked over the top of the bowl, which gives it a dramatic presentation. The pastry is sprinkled with crispy garlic from another layer of flavor. It was some of the best lobster bisque I've ever had and the hubs said it was the best he's ever had. We moved onto the Filet Oscar for our main courses. Delicious! Hands down some of the best flavors ever - filet mignon perfectly seasoned and cooked, a tender artichoke bottom, fluffy crab - all topped with a delicate Bearnaise sauce. WOW. Yes, we were quite full when we finished, but after that wonderful meal we couldn't help but wonder, "What would Gordon have for dessert?" LOL Well, Gordon didn't disappoint. He suggested a Myer Lemon Creme Brulee with freshly made whipped cream and fresh berries. It was a flavorful explosion in my mouth! Gordon was the perfect server and balanced attentiveness and privacy. We enjoyed a quiet meal that was incredibly delicious. The tables are situated so you feel private from everyone else. We made reservations here for New Year's Eve dinner with a group of 8. I was looking forward to eating here despite the poor reviews... I should have listened and looked for something else because this was the most disappointing meal I had in all of 2019! The food itself wasn't too bad... but the service was absolutely terrible! Our server was Thomas and he really didn't seem to care about providing quality service! Perhaps this was due to the fact that the gratuity was automatically added onto the bill for our large party?? Our reservation was at 730 and we didn't get out of there until 10pm! (There were about 7-8 other parties in the small dining room with multiple servers) The food came out first starting with the kid's meals a good 15-20 minutes before the first of the adult's entrees began coming out. If you want to all eat together DO NOT COME HERE! Eventually the rest of the meals began trickling out here and there... he would bring one table a dish and then one dish to our table. I have no idea who was expediting the tickets but they were horrible at it! It's completely ridiculous that they sent out some of our party's food a full hour before others got served! My poor best friend had to eventually ask for her salad around 915 because he completely forgot all about it and just left her sitting there with nothing while everyone else had finally received their meals! I understand that it was New Years, so I expected to wait... I'm not unrealistic... However, when someone asks for a hot chocolate and you snap "I can't do that right now because I have to get the food out before it gets cold!" It's totally disrespectful! BTW the food was cold anyways, except the proteins because your kitchen can't get it together to save their lives! Then again when we ask if you can split the check and you reply "No I'm too busy you'll have to do it yourself!" It makes me wonder if you understand what exactly your role as a server entails!?? It was completely unacceptable to treat guests in this manner! The manager did give us a partial credit on our bill, which I guess made things slightly better... I would have ultimately preferred a nice meal and good service though! Just seems like if we're going to be dropping 400$ on a meal and nearly a thousand dollars on the rooms, you would think they would strive to provide an exemplary experience from the beginning of the stay till the end! Bottom line save your money and frustration and go somewhere that's actually worthy of your hard earned dollars! Amazing service! I got the filet mignon and it was in a reduction sauce of wine, but I asked if I could have the dish with another sauce because I had a sulfite allergy. But the server Camille really went above and beyond. She brought me two alternate sauces. She wanted to accommodate my allergy to the maximum and for me to have the best experience possible. I only really get sauces Incase the steak is a bit dry but this wasn't an issue here as it was very good. But I really appreciate the gesture and length Camille went to as steak is my favorite food but no server has ever gone the extra mile with not just one sauce but two! read more

The waiter attending the table near ours seemed to make the food come alive off the menu meanwhile our waiter was just meh...not that interested. The highlight of the dinner was definitely dessert! We had the bananas diablo which they prepare tableside and it was about the only excitement we got from our waiter all night. Menu options were a little limited so they were kind enough to allow me to order from a different menu (belonging to Sierra Restaurant) as well as my husband who sticks to a vegan diet. Embers is the most expensive and fanciest restaurant at Tenaya Lodge in Fish Camp, CA. They require reservations and apparently do not take walk ins. We managed to get an 8:30PM reservation on New Years Eve. Apparently they are busy this time of year, whatever. The actual seating area is much smaller than Sierra, next door. They also have several similar items but when asked, the waitress informed us that Embers has "higher grade" food. Okay. But they do in fact share a kitchen. Decor is fine, very simple with a wilderness touch. The big red chairs are very comfy although they're very unwieldy so you could very easily knock into another customer's chair. Between us both, we spent $100. It was very pricey and we don't feel it was worth it. When we were seated, we were provided with water and a small plate with crispy bread, olives, and red pepper hummus. The crispy bread had olive oil, salt and pepper on it. It was extremely hard, oily, and salty. The hummus was nice, not too much heat and the proper consistency. The olives were fine as well, although the entire dish was so salty I downed my water very quickly. We aren't alcohol drinkers so we ordered two diet cokes. Fiance wasn't very hungry, so he ordered the quail as an appetizer, then we shared the table side Caesar salad and I ordered the Buffalo short ribs. The quail is actually only HALF of a quail (and they're small buggers). It was very tasty but there was not much to it. Two people who weren't very hungry couldn't share it, for sure. The Caesar salad was prepared at the table very meticulously. It was very interesting and nice to chat to the hostess who was prepping it. I think it had a bit too much lemon but overall very nice. They used real sardines, no bottle sauce at all. I was confused why she made so much and we had left overs, but we weren't allowed to have second plates. She wheeled the cart away with the spare salad. I can only imagine it went in the trash since other customers are paying to have it made fresh in front of them so no one else got it. Very odd. The buffalo short ribs were falling off the bone and came with a mole sauce which was very flavorful and hearty. The dish also came with root vegetables and polenta. I got only three veggie pieces, unfortunately. The polenta was tasty but a very thick consistency. Fiance suggests they used a lot of butter. It was thick and fluffy and stuck to my fork. It tasted great but was confused about the consistency. We ordered the popular bananas diabalo, where they cook the banana sauce in front of you and light it on fire, etc etc. Interesting to watch, again, like the Caesar salad. It comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (we ordered another scoop) and some sweet wafers to provide texture. The bananas were very good in my opinion. Fiance wanted more flavor. The ice cream was still frozen and had ice crystals in it, it was hard and unpleasant to eat. I like the texture the wafers provided but it was too sweet. The sauce the bananas were tossed in was just the right amount of sweet but the wafers put it over. The waitstaff were all wonderful and accommodating. They were personable and easy going. I would have loved to give more stars for them but the food just doesn't make this a four star review. read more

We went to Embers, your "fine dining" restaurant on Saturday night and by far it was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. After a couple of drinks at your bar, we arrived on time for our 9pm reservation to find that Embers was a freezing cold, overly air conditioned room with the ambiance of a normal hotel conference room. We were promptly seated, but received zero attention for over fifteen minutes - no one asking us if we wanted beverages, no water, nothing - while we saw the sole waiter setup and perform the kitchy tableside flambé dessert performance. Why, if there was only one waiter, he didn't at least come take and put in our drink order before launching into "Bananas Diablo" is absolutely beyond me. He spent the full ten minutes making the dessert alternating between his weak stand-up and turning around to apologize for not serving us. We thought about leaving at this point. Thought it was a sign of things to come. I really wish we had listened to our guts. When Christopher finally made it over to us, he apologize again (which was now getting annoying), took our drink orders and told us about what on the menu were his favorite dishes. My fiancée made the regretable decision of listening to him and ordering the roasted lamb, while I got the chicken. We also got a salad and a lobster bisque, because by the time all this happened, we were already extremely hungry. The salad and bisque came out twenty-minutes after that. Unimpressive, but whatever. Hardly something to complain about...it was a salad. The bisque was served in an enomous bowl, but ultimately, fine. Nothing exciting or special about our appetizers, but definitely not worth the time it took for it to arrive. But our entrees didn't come out for an additional FIFTY minutes. We were there for an hour and a half before our entrees hit the table. And guess what? They were disgusting. At Jackaloupe's, someone ordered a chicken dish that was absolutely incredible smelling. My chicken tasted and smelled like nothing. Seasoning had never touched any part of the breast or skin. It was overcooked and very tough to eat. In fact, I didn't. I took two bites and decided that was enough. It was served with quinoa and califlower. Quinoa is quinoa. It too was fine. But the califlower was just boiled and plopped onto my plate, completely devoid of any flavor or character. I ate about half my quinoa, one piece of califlower and I was absolutely done. My fiancée was optimistic about her dish when it arrived. While cooked to a nice medium-rare, the lamb was soaked in a bland brown sauce, like something you'd find in an elementary school cafeteria, with whole uncooked cloves of garlic in it, rendering the meat inedible. The potato side dish was gray and soggy. And the same plain jane califlower polluted her plate, as well. Christopher's recommendation was way off. That was it. Dinner was done. We asked for the check right away. It took over fifteen minutes for the check to arrive, at which point, Christopher asked if we liked our meals and wanted them boxed. My fiancée told him plainly, her meal was awful and the kitchen needed to rethink the dish entirely. And when he turned to me, I just told him, "I ate the quinoa." To Christopher's credit, he did apologize profusely, offered to give us more drinks or a dessert on the house (we declined) and took the entrées off the bill, which we appreciated. He wasn't a bad server, just woefully understaffed. We're never coming back, but we were honestly very disappointed. We were looking forward to that meal and our stay at Tenaya. This whole experience left a very sour taste in our mouths and a very empty feeling in our bellies. read more

The best option for dining here at Tenaya. This is slightly pricier than the Sierra restaurant, but it's 10x the atmosphere and food... so I would say the value is here over Sierra's madhouse of poor food and atmosphere. We actually REALLY enjoyed it... our server was a fantastic gent who took his time caring to discuss the food, prep, ingredients, etc, as well as being a joy to talk to about the ins and outs of Yosemite. A romantic, but traditional, steakhouse atmosphere, we got dressed up....although families were there with casually dressed kids, etc. It's dimly lit enough that the table experience is intimate, and other tables won't bother you. Ask for a seat near the fireplace. =) Tableside service really added the experience. The apps, salad, steaks were all great... but the table side caeser is ALWAYS welcome, and the after dinner drinks set on fire and mixed at the table were such an enhancement. I know it takes a lot of time, but we love that additional service option. It's just classic and brings a lot to the "table". It's definitely the best choice, certainly for couples. Enjoy. read more

We ordered the crab cake (only good thing from our dinner, lobster soup (bland as hell), and I ordered the lamb chops and my husband ordered the filet. We both had to send our entrees back because although he asked for his medium, it was rare. My lamb chops were rare as well. Not even sure if that's even safe to eat. They cooked both longer and brought it back and I literally took 2 bites and I couldn't eat it anymore. We ended up paying $180 for 2 and that was such a waste of money. Husband and I came here to celebrate our Anniversary and we were not impressed for an "upscale" dining experience. We tried to change our reservation with the manager of the restaurant to change our reservation from 6:45 to 6:00PM so we could enjoy the jacuzzi before it closed. He said he couldn't do it but after really pushing, he was willing to seat us at 6:15. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty! There was maybe 4 tables total, including us! My husband and I were sitting here thinking is something wrong? The food was sub-par. The filet was quite bland and really needed more flavor. For the price of the dishes, true disappointment. 6 oz. Filet Mignon | 36 Smoked Mac and Cheese Red Wine Bordelaise 10 oz. Filet Mignon | 42 Yukon Mashed, Bleu Cheese Gratin The service was great however, but the food just wasn't worth the price tag. The atmosphere was great but the food and service was terrible. 1. There is no reservation. 2. The reception kept lying on waiting time. 30 minutes became 1 hour wait. 3. Food at that price tag is not acceptable. $35 for pasta that was over cooked, some pasta stuck together and some are not cooked. The shrimps was just tiny frozen shrimp instead of prawn on the menu. 4. The main course arrived before the starter was finished. I wouldn't go there again for my next trip. We decided to give this restaurant a try when we heard it was the last night of the season and that no children were allowed. This was our weekend away from our kiddos!!! Embers was quiet, romantic and the least busy restaurant of the 3 at Tenaya Lodge. It is a fine dining experience verses the other 2. I'm glad we read some reviews here on Yelp before ordering. I found other people's recommendations to be very helpful. We did like the crab cake appetizer, you get 2 crab cakes per order. They were very simple but very fresh tasting. We also had to try the table side Cesar Salad, it was very good. It was fun to see how the waitress prepared it and it has a unique spicy flavor to it. I ordered the Filet Oscar picture posted below. It was perfect exactly how I ordered my Filet (medium rare). My hubby ordered the Lamb Shank again picture posted below. It fell right off the bone it was so tender. We also shared the Lobster Bisque soup that was good too but nothing special. Unfortunately, we were to full to try dessert. The table side Bananas Diablo looked great, maybe next time! The food was good. I had the filet and it was a little salty but otherwise cooked to my liking. Also had the lobster bisque which was very good. My friend had the rack of lamb and loved it. Unfortunately I have to give two stars as a result of the management. Our server was great but the manager spent the entire duration of our rather expensive meal having a loud and obnoxious conversation with the table next to us. I couldn't hear a word my friend said. To be fair, the patrons at the table next to us were pushing the ridiculous conversation forward. So I was apprehensive to come here due to the previous yelp reviews and lack of current reviews. Tom was our server. He was very attentive and went above and beyond. We were surprised to see other guests in jeans in flips flops as we thought you had to dress formal. The food was unique and very good. The dessert was amazing. We didn't have to wait long for anything. No complaints here. The lighting was odd and that was my only gripe. Was at a small conference at Tenaya Lodge so my husband and I decided to eat here. We ordered the lobster bisque, filet oscar(8oz filet + crab and grilled artichoke heart), and the lamb rack. Lobster bisque was quite delicious, with a puff pastry on top of it. The filet oscar had a very good bearnaise sauce that accompaied it, and lamb rack was alright. What I'll have to say, though, is that the service was wonderful. Our waiters knew the menu(including wine list), and they were very friendly and attentive. Good dining experience. read more

Our Embers experience was a good one. Gordon was our waiter. Personable and attentive. Quiet and romantic atmosphere. I had the lamb and it was good. My husband had the chicken and enjoyed it very much. The mashed potatoes were noteworthy and the Caesar salad, prepared at the table, was very good. I only have one complaint that kept this review from being a 5. The silverware is the most poorly designed eating utensil I have ever used. I would like very much whoever ordered those utensils for the restaurant to order lamb and try to manage cutting the meat off the bone with the arch handled fork and the big heavy steak knife. It took the pleasure right out of the meal for me. I mentioned it to Gordon. He told me that I am not the first person who has complained about the design. I would say that new flatware is in order for this place. read more

Went here while staying at Tenaya Lodge and visiting Yosemite. We were the first ones to be seated and they placed us at a table near their double sided fireplace, very lovely. For appetizers I got the grilled quail and hubby got the arugula salad. Both had the wonderful candied bacon. That stuff is so good I could have just eaten a bowl of candied bacon! I had the lamb shank as a main and it was a very generous portion and the lamb was cooked perfectly. Hubby got the venison chop. I found the venison too gamey for my taste but hubby thought the flavor was just right, if not a little over-cooked. He also loved the polenta that came on the plate. For dessert hubby got the creme brûlée and thought it was good. As the hubby said, "it's hard to really f@ck up a creme brûlée." All in all, a lovely dinner. read more
