okay, of all the breweries ive been to, this one is my favorite. i mean its just like what i hope my future is like. wonderfully fit looking families running around with happy babies. food truck serving up pork, the good stuff :) i wasnt particularly crazy about the tater tots or the taco, but i just got the best feeling out of this place, which is why its 5 stars. really yummy beers and friendly people. omg this lady was handing out cupcakes. it think they were for all the kiddies dressed up in their halloween costume. oh and there's hella fully dogs in this place too, all very well-behaved, its pretty awesome. read more

Mountain toad is one of go to breweries in Golden. They have a wide variety of beers. I like IPAs and they serve a couple. There is a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. A lot of people bring their dogs out to the patio. The dog situation can get a bit crowded, if you have a dog that isn't super friendly with other dogs on leash (like we do), it may not be the best spot to bring them. Loved this brewery, me and some friends came here after a hike and got some of their beer and food from the food truck that was there. The food truck had really good tacos and sliders. Their pizza slider was really delicious, and so were the tacos. I really enjoyed their lavender lager (I forget the exact name of it) but it was probably the best lager I have ever had honestly. It had wonderful hints of lavender all the way down, which I loved. Definitely would recommend this place if you're looking for a good brewery in Golden. read more

Mountain Toad is a hopping place on a Sunday afternoon. We lucked out an arrived around 3pm or so and managed to get a seat at the bar. There are a number of tables indoors as well as some outdoor seating. Unfortunately the outdoor seating is directly in the sun, so if it's a hot day, be prepared to roast. Hopefully in the future there will be some umbrellas or some other shade options. There were 4 beers on tap when we visited - A wit (my favorite with a slight citrus to it), an amber, a stout, and an IPA. The amber was decent, the stout okay and the IPA I pawned off to another drinking partner. There was nothing wrong with the stout and the IPA - just not my favorites. If you're hungry, there is a food truck parked in the outdoor area. When we visited it was BBQ. The staff is friendly and willing to chat it up with you (provided that it's not packed). If you're not quite hungry enough for BBQ, ask for some Toad Snacks which is just a little bowl of rice crackers, dehydrated peas, and nuts. Goes well with beer! read more

The beer is good, and the staff is wonderfully friendly. They rotate food trucks so there's always something new to eat; they had Chuey Fu's Latin-Asian Fusion several Tuesdays when I was there, which was definitely my favorite. The IPA is delicious without being a one-dimensional hop blast, and the Cream Ale is another favorite. They're open later than the Golden City Brewery, but have the same problems with neighbors complaining about noise that GCB did which is *why* GCB doesn't stay open later. The ambience is laid-back and fun; with some live music and more amicable neighbors, the place would be a gem. read more

When I am out on the road I always try and visit a local brewery- maybe it is just a North County San Diego thing- but I want to see what else is out there. I am glad I picked Mountain Toad as my stop. First off: Golden is awesome. I wish that I had more time to explore the area but the sense of community reflects in the local bar- and this is one of them. I was greeted with smiles and laid back (in a good way) service. The place was pretty busy but offers quite a bit of sitting room both in and outside. The beer was great- the Zion IPA was solid, ohhh but won my heart was the Black Lemon Saison. When you see something in a brewery that is bold and experimental, I usually end up trying it to really get an idea of the brewer's vision- and this beer was spot on. That to me means that all other season beers have the potential to be spot on as well. Awesome spot for a drink and good vibes overall. read more

I met my friend and her husband at this brewery because they've been there a few times and said it was "kid friendly." They bring their toddler to play in the sandbox. The place is also pet friendly. I went there on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed. The staff was amazing considering how busy it was. I still need to try all of their beers so I look forward to a return visit. The place was a little loud for my taste and there weren't as many seats/tables as I would have liked. But overall, I enjoyed it. read more

This is my favorite bar in Golden! I am not a big beer drinker so I don't have a lot to say about their brews. I like their beers but what I love is that I can get Happy Leaf kombucha on tap. They do a half beer half kombucha which I have tried a few times. Their outdoor patio is awesome and I love that they allow dogs out there! I usually come down for a kombucha and some food from one of the food trucks they host. They have a schedule of the food trucks on there website so you know who is going to be there on a given night. All in all a fun place with a chill atmosphere. read more

Horrible service. Great beers. It's not hard to be nice and have great service but this place misses the mark...almost every time. Last time I was here was over a year ago and same outcome. The bartenders just do not know how to give halfway decent service and even more so just be friendly. Really cool brewery just on the other side of Clear Creek from downtown Golden. One of the few breweries I've been to that will sell pitchers. And at $16 per, it's an incredible deal! But that's not all... The food truck is pretty incredible. All I have to say is salmon Benedict. It was ridiculous. Like really, really good. Eventually, figured out there is a food truck out back. (Yes, it was my second brewery of the night, but it was dark out.) Was told that most nights there is a different food truck. The beer was fine. My friend asked for a 16 oz beer & when it came, he asked me if it looked smaller than a 16 oz to me. We asked the bar man (Ross) if it was a 16 (we honestly didn't know) & his response was 'you calling me a liar?!?'. Whoa, WTH. We asked him to repeat himself (we were both dumbfounded) & said again 'you calling me a liar?!?' & pulls out the various types of 16 oz glasses they carry & asked if we were going to order more. His actions were tinged with intimidation. I give the beer experience a 3-4 star, the service less than 1 star. Don't let this man interact with customers. read more

I like the place, the people, and the beer here. It's a better fit for me than the other two Golden micros. You know the scruffy backyard one and the yuppie strip mall one. We called to see whether we could order kegs from Mountain Toad for our wedding and rehearsal dinner. We were told by the staff that they only do "special events." I explained that our wedding was a special event, at least to us, but they then clarified that special events only meant events that would make them more money. Very bad business and, on top of that, quite obnoxious. We always bring out-of-town groups to the brewery because we like the beer and the ambiance, but will probably not be returning due to the slight. read more

Neat place, but a little weird. There is a dog area in back, no grass. There's no good place to have a large group, even though that seemed to be their entire customer base. Beer was ok. There wasn't any food available, and a lady came by saying she was so sorry there wasn't food, but they had small sandwiches. We all thought that meant was free because it wasn't available otherwise, but they charged us $4 each after we had already touched the food. We felt tricked. It was really crowded in there, but nobody was really talking or laughing. It was a weird feeling, like bodily was having fun but everyone felt like they had to be there. I tried a few different breweries while in Golden, but none were even close to Mountain Toad. Great brewery, tap selections, and the food trucks and fire outside are great additions. As for the beer, I'm almost always a dark beer person and have to say that the Dunkelweiss was absolutely fantastic, but the Ryrish Stout was also pretty nice.
